  3. Havantepe - "Passing By" (6:47)
  4. Havantepe - "Passing By" (Roger Gerressen remix) (6:27)
Review: From Russia with rushes; Paolo Rocco recruits newblood Lessi S for a jam that chugs and shrouds with a vague sense of late night/early morning naughtiness. Simple, warm, dubby and jacking, it's the ideal choice for an equally chop-slapping East End Dubs remix. Turkish Havantepe takes over the B with an uptempo, driving piece of progressive tech. Lolloping with soft bass fluctuations and cosmic synths, it's a perfect transition from the light to dark sides of the night. Roger Gerresson takes the remix to a much lighter side with a subtle, restrained deep twist. Serene.

Review: Argentina's Cosmica welcomes Mexican duo Rocco & Esquivel for this deliciously fresh and fruity disco piece. Translating to avocados and cream, "Palta Con Creme" slaps and tickles with a succulent synth funk vibe that's not dissimilar to Silver City's 20/20 output in the mid 2000s. Playful and hooky, its freeform style lends itself both to the chugging deep space Dubmasters Electro mix and a darker, tech-laced twist from Red Motorbike-riding Eddie C. Full cream ahead!

Review: 'Find A Way' is a perfect match to the high quality standards of deep house tracks represented on Main Street. Paul St. Hilaire's voice is approved by now and is well known for his vocal on some Burial Mix releases. A killer instrumental version is featured on the B-side.

Review: At the third release on their deep house division Basic Channel keeps introducing new singers. Paul St Hilaire brings in a refreshing reggae flavour to the rather classic deep house set-up. The main vocal mix one A-side is allied with an instrumental on the B-side that reminiscent of Maurizio or Basic Channel releases.

Review: Surprise: Detroit five-piece Will Sessions warm us up for their next album with two classics from their elusive 2010 jazz fusion homage Kindred. The title track builds on their more cosmic work with frantic guitar flashes and horn cries over a languid moonlit bed creating sudden moments of tension, release. "Polyester People" flips the energy as the troupe tightly roll out a firing jazz funk riff that's so tightly locked the delicious keys can do as they please... And often do. Bring on the new album.

Review: Sacha Khalife, or simply SHCAA, is a multi-talented electronic music producer from Paris. We know him well, however, namely due to an EP that cam out through NYC's Blank Slate back in 2015. Since then, he's put out one more EP through Archipel, but this is the first time we've welcomed him back onto our charts in 2017. Golconde comes through courtesy of the young Sharingtones imprint, and while this is billed as an EP, the release's 11 tracks give the impression of something much more accomplished. Fair enough, each tune is comparatively short to the usual album tracks, but the likes of "Kohinor", a bluesy, laid back slice of exotica, offer some truly deep vibes. Moreover, it's how each tune fits with the next that has got us hooked from the start, where SCHAA chucks in a subtle house blend like it's nothing, making tunes such as "Mimesis" feel like a natural course of events. On the B-side, this curious yet endlessly pleasing blend of acoustic guitars and tropical house waves continues, climaxing with a bottomless pit o minimalistic drones on "Maelstrom", followed by some glitchy IDM vibes on "Kert". Lush.

Here, the track gets reissued as part of Mr Bongo's brilliant Brazil 45s series, alongside his lesser-known - but no less impressive - cover of Edu Lobo's "Ponteio".

Review: Neddy Smith seems to be just another one of those smooth operators consigned to early 80s history on the excellent Delirium label, but lucky for us Best Records are on hand to dig him out and bring "Give It Up" to a whole new crowd. This is crisp, laid back boogie of the highest caliber, with the title track in particular nailing everything we love about this inimitable era of funk. There's more than whiff of Luther Vandross about the opening strains of "Give It Up", but "Liberated Woman" strikes out on its own with a more ballad-like tone but no dip in the all-important get down.

Review: Dutch producer Sota is the latest to be snapped up by Ornate Music, presenting his second ever release having first come to light with his own Talaman label earlier in the year. "Subsonica" rides on a tough house groove, keeping the elements as spartan as possible while heading straight into the deep end of the night. "Inverse" is a skippier affair that deals with heavily processed synth flares and a deadly swinging groove, and then "Chatka" finishes the EP off with a dreamy cut peppered with delay processing for the quintessential dubby trip through refined 4/4 dance music.

Review: Following DJ Boring's memorable trip down "Sunday Avenue" Let's Play House invite another exciting foundation-inspired talent to the fold; David Disanto. Building on a sweet run of grooves this year on the likes of Frole, Manitou and Quality Vibe come four delicate synth-chiselled trips that range from the smoky struts and jacks of the Robsoul-style "Fools Jam" to the almost Nordic introspective Balearica of "La Luna". Taking time to remix himself under his other alias Emphasi along the way, this is the sound of St David really settling into his warm, timeless signature right here.

Review: Blundar is a label shrouded in mystery, although it seems aligned with artists like Lowtec and those orbiting crews like Smallville. The latest transmission on the dusty house imprint comes from STL, whose disheveled sounds is a natural fit for what has come before on Blundar. "Track 1" peers through a thick haze of smoke, exhaling pads and drones and keeping the bass pulsing throughout. The rest of the EP is given over to experimental and ambient tones, with the second track on Side B being an especially arresting piece loaded with melancholic contemplation. It's another strong addition to the Blundar repertoire, and another example of STL's skills and adaptability in the studio.

Review: Last time out, Stefan 'Sublee' Nicu was collaborating with fellow Romanian starlet Cristi Cons. This time round, he's on a solo mission, delivering two more fine chunks of late night tech-house for those who like to get lost in music. On the A-side, he doffs a cap to Thomas Melchior via the loose and funky percussion programming and deep space electronics of "Moodswing". Arguably even better is flipside "Distressed", a thrilling fusion of broken house beats, restless analogue riffs, intergalactic electronics and a foreboding hint of angular TB-303 abuse. It may well be one of his strongest tracks to date, and that's saying something.

Review: Previously available on Art Yard as a separate series of 10"s, The Lost Arkestra Series returns on a double-packed release for all those that missed it the first time around - or simply for the endless nut job collectors who need their second edition. 1983's live version of "Along Came Ra" is from a gig in Paris, and this particular version is the one real killer that's been missing from our charts - all that percussive glory would go down a storm in just about any DJ set, that's for sure; On the flip you have two minimal (synth) cuts that were from the original tapes of Disco 3000...we're sure you understand just how special this is now. The second disc, which is the original volume 2, sees a series of recordings from the 1970s series of Saturn LPs, which feature Sun Ra's much deeper, jazzier personality. A magical ride from start to finish. Cop it before it's too late.

Review: Re-issue of the TK Disco classic from 1977 and it still sounds as awesome as ever. Particularly if when you get two dons of the current scene to edit it. On the A side Boston's Kon gets on board to give it two fine re-edits. The "Kon Keep It Movin' mix" clocks in at just over eight minutes and works the track main hooks for a lot longer on this cleverly executed an essential edit for any serious DJs box. "Kon's Groove" is a more condensed version of the previous and great modern revision of the track. On the flip we've got none other than Todd Terje, giving Jimmy McGriff's classic "Tailgunner" a tasty re-edit too. The classic from 1977 gets its epic Hammond Jazz organ solo extended over nearly seven minutes of glory!

Review: At the time of writing, there was little information around about the identity of the producer (or producers) behind this hand-stamped, limited edition 12". Perhaps their unwillingness to be unmasked lies in the choice of vocal samples on the fine A-side: a wonderfully rolling and bouncy concoction propelled forwards by hissing cymbal hits, a Chicago jack style analogue bassline, darting synth stabs and some familiar, soulful snippets. While groovy and loose, the track packs a fair punch, too. The same could be said for the equally as impressive B-side, an organ-heavy 4/4 garage bumper that turns into a sweaty, Orbital influenced broken house shuffler midway through.

Review: Munich based Janis and Fabian are back on Mojuba sublabel a.r.t.less for some dusty and greyscale techno in the vein of homeboys the Zenker Brothers. Their third release, fittingly titled Three, features the pounding warehouse ready assault of "VLV" which is perfect to lead into the peak time. Plus those evocative pads add a nice touch. On the flip, the broken and moody effects of "ABV" will no doubt bear comparisons to Rene Pawlowitz' work as Shed: but it's a great track in its own right, we must say. Finally, there's some less fierce yet functional mood lighting in the form of "DSY" which is a tunnelling affair with a hypnotic bassline, steely rhythms and reverb drenched aesthetic.

"Bara Bara" is a carnival-primed, horn-led jacker pimped by a Chi-town drum energy. Meanwhile on the B, "The Road Is Hard" flexes back on a classic Brazilian harmony while filtering the dynamic down to its bare bones before building it back up again. Warm as toast.

Instantly plugging us in with the raffish loose-limbed electroid funk of "Get Up And Do It", Lascelles then blindsides us with a rainbow of elements ranging from the deep emotional soul of Maggie Nicols on "Got To Believe" and one of the most spiritual takes on "Amazing Grace" we've ever heard. Awash with the smoky sax, shimmering Rhodes and delicate horn work, the vibrations run deeper than ever.

Review: Music From Memory return, this time with four tracks drawn from Virgil 'Vincent' Work Jnr's little-known cassette only debut from 1987. This album reflects a more stripped back and raw musical approach from the St. Louis musician. The 'Fast Forward' sessions grew out of a series of late night jams with Vincent's brother Scott who was then living in Kansas. With nothing planned in advance and no written music involved in the final recording sessions, the songs that would form 'Fast Forward' very much evolved out of improvisation. As Virgil himself explains, the title of the album in fact came about because it felt "as if I had fast forwarded to a different sound". Although the album received a good response from local radio DJs and music magazines, the album sadly never gained enough momentum or demand for a further run of copies. Fast forward to 2017, exactly thirty years are their production, and Music From Memory are delighted to be able to finally make Vincent's music commercially available again.

Review: Former Slum Village and Platinum Pied Piper beat maker Waajeed has thrown himself into soulful, synth-laden deep house production of late, primarily by making his presence felt on cuts by fellow Detroit legend Theo Parrish. Here he strikes out on his own with a brilliantly colourful, imaginative and on-point EP of solo productions. There's much to admire throughout, from the looked vibraphone melodies, darting brass and undulating broken house rhythms of "Shango", to the Dego and Kaidi Tatham style, jazz-funk influenced electro smoothness of "Better Late Than Never". Opener "Winston's Midnight Disco", where hushed synth-disco samples are wrapped into alien synth lines and elastic bass, is also rather fine.
