Vlucht Naar Nachtschade (Delta Funktionen remix)
Vlucht Naar Nachtschade
Variatie Hoogtegraad
Review: Ireland's Lunar Disko continues to impress since last year's Juno HQ favourite by none other than DJ Overdose. Here VC118A return to the imprint with a handsome, polyrhythmic three-tracker backed with a handsome remix. "Click" is a moody, late-night 606 jam, while "Vlucht Naar Nachtschade" brings the tempo down even further to reach sinister levels of deepness. Delta Funktionen's remix is nasty to say the least, heading further into a wormhole of electro doom, and finally, "Variatie Hoogtegraad" strips everything back into a melancholic groove surrounded by lonely, shadowy pads.

For That Way Lies Oblivion
Korruption
Review: You know it's a good day when a brand-spanking new Planet E plate drops on you lap! Releases from Carl Craig's institution have been few and far between in recent years, but it's always a special occasion when they do. There is little to nothing that we know about Korrupt Data apart from the fact that a whole LP is about to be released. To keep you satisfied until then, here's a tasty EP featuring two of the album's tracks, "For That Way Lies Oblivion" and "Korruption". Steam-rolling electro funk for the next millennium, like they used to do! For fans of the whole Detroit heritage.

Painting (feat Shona Carmen)
Dark Autumn (Timothy J Fairplay remix)
Review: Manchester artist Belly is back with his second EP of 2014 released through his new inprint Belly Dance and this time he is joined by East End Soul vocalist Shona Carmen & one half of Asphodells Tiimothy J Fairplay on the remix. The second EP see's Belly up the pace slightly from his inagural release moving slightly away of the slow beat of tracks like Dark Autumn and Farewell and embark on a sligtly more up tempo , swing style bordering on the style of Machine Drum. The first track 'Control' is a hazy club track with strong vocals from both Belly & Shona backed up by drum and bass beats which is followed by vocal heavy space beats in the form of 'Zu' . On the flip side we see the real inpact of Shona Carmen with a clubtrack loaded with summer vibes called 'Painting' . The vocals are soulfull and beautiful with a swing tempo and drum patterns that lift throughout. This is followed by Timothy J Fairplay bringing in his own take on 90's chicago garage music with a banging clubtrack remix of Dark Autumn off of Belly Dance 001.

Love Park
Review: Since debuting on Wicked Bass last year, Belgian artist Innershades has graced a well respected clutch of labels with his brand of electro and New Beat inspired techno (Creme, We Play House, Stay Underground It Pays) With the Love Park EP, he adds Patrick Marsman's Pinkman label to his collar and tailors his sound accordingly. There's a real '80s neon vibe to the whole EP and it's hard to not associate a lot of this record with the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. Basslines are big and fat, synth lines sometimes sound as though they're recreated themes from TV shows or R&B pop hits, while square wave sound design and monophonic bleeps hark back to the wonder years or OG electro and poppy Chicago house.

I See Myself
Review: It's been some two years since Dutch veteran Boris Bunnik (AKA Conforce, Hexagon, Silent Harbour, Vernon Facility etc) donned his Versalife moniker. Collission With The Past 1 sees him in fine form, casually joining the dots between bubbling IDM, vintage electro, glacial ambience and icy techno. "Before The Interrogation" sets the tone, delivering waves of subdued melodies and crystalline textures. The more 808 electro influenced "Utilise The Secondary Suspensor" raises the pulse further, before Bunnik lets loose on the dark, hypnotic techno of "Mariana". Best of all, though, is "I See Myself", a formidable blend of Autechre-style IDM rhythms, Drexciyan electro and tipsy electronics.

Re-Konstructor
Re-Kabaret 13
Review: Earlier this year Anterior Research Media Comm label presented Clock 2, a USB stick of Clock DVA material that covered audio and video content. Fans of the iconic '80s Steel City industrial act who prefer their Clock DVA in a more traditional format will no doubt be pleased to see that the label have pulled two of the reworks that featured on that USB for this lovingly presented 12" release. Originally composed and programmed by Clock DVA at Astrogys Studio in Salerno, Italy back in 2012, both "Re-Konstructor" and "Re-Kabaret 13" were "developed, produced and remixed" at the Anterior Optofonica Lab in Amsterdam. The former is reworked by OG Clock DVA member Adi Newton along with Maurizio 'TEZ' Martinucci, whilst the latter gets rewired by Raster-Noton co-founder Frank Bretschneider. Both are quite excellent!

PELF (Hardfloor vs DBS feat The Egyptian Lover)
PELF (Dynamik Bass System remix)
Passion Ecstasy Lust Fantasy (Egyptian Lover remix)
Review: Taken from their 10th artist album, "P.E.L.F" is a supergroup-style collaboration with features from both DBS and Egyptian Lover. Naturally with all three acts involved, the original is as great as you'd expect and remains a stand-out track from the Art Of Acid album thanks to eerie eastern charms, purring robo-vox and insanely funky analogue attitude. The Dynamik Bass System remix takes the vibe just a tad deeper into the dance with more weight and space applied to the arrangement. Finally we hit a remix from Egyptian Lover himself! Bringing his vocals to the fore - and removing a lot of the processing - both his loves and the instrumentation recall the electro rudiments while staring defiantly into a digital future.

Review: The Identity Component album from Finnish dup Morphology get a fine reboot in the form of a double plated remix EP featuring some of their finest electro and techno contemporaries. Released back in February, Identity Component has remained a office favourite at Juno HQ and seeing it remixed by such heavyweights is exactly the sort of thing we live for - props to Zyntax Motorcity for getting this together! First up, Versalife aka Conforce remixes the title track into a slinky, metallic, broken groove for the moodiest of hours, while The Exaltics up the tempo with a tough electro remix of "Folded Lines" that's built for the floor. Other highlights include DJ Overdose's version of "Irregular Satellites" - one of his meanest tunes to date - and Sync 24 churning out the Drexcyian acid all over the shop. Killer.

Review: Though many of the artists that have featured on WeMe Records have released with other labels, it's fair to say the Brussels operation still retains a unique identity that has set it apart over the past decade. That's certainly the impression you get from this 13 track compilation, issued to celebrate WeMe Records surpassing the 10 year mark, and a release that neatly documents the label's commitment to electro and more esoteric fare. Entitled WeMe10ans, the compilation is filled with exclusive material and finds electro mainstays Der Zyklus, DJ Stingray and Global Goon rubbing shoulders with composers such as Francois de Roubaix and Giles Lamb and the singular Leyland Kirby.

Review: Belgium's WeMe imprint is rather special indeed. Circulating loosely around an electro framework, the imprint has seen important releases by the likes of DJ Stingray, DMX Krew and many other trendsetters. This time it's label debutants and newcomers Radio Logg who drop a whole album on us, featuring pure electro-funk made for listening or grooving out to. We're not sure who's involved or whether it's an alias for a known producer, but we can safely say that it's a beauty from start to finish. "Stethoscope" is especially wonderful, bringing through that high-tech, sci-fi vibe reminiscent of Drexciya's watery works. With vocals.

Review: In the face of all those Clone reissue compilations, Tresor are doing the right thing and digging into their own archive of seminal aquatic machine funk from Detroit electro legends Drexciya, and stepping up with the Hydro Doorways EP is the kind of power move that most labels can only dream of being able to make. From the cinematic drama of "Quantum Hydrodynamics" to the textbook boogie down synth abandon of "Polymono Plexusgel", not forgetting the heavy-on-the-one throwdown of "Lost Vessel" or the alien gurgles and peppy pace of "Species On The Pod", or the... oh you know the drill. This is timeless, essential business for anyone that takes electronic music seriously.

Review: After Clone's series of Drexciya compilations, it seems that Tresor have decided the climate is right for them to reissue some of the material that Gerald Donald and James Stinson committed to tape for them. Following the Hydro Doorways EP that surfaced earlier this month, Tresor finally unleash the double LP edition of Neptunes Lair, generally regarded the pinnacle of electro long player. Neptunes Lair is a landmark piece of music - 21 tracks of exploratory electronica from 1999, excavated from the Tresor vault. Original pressings of this album still fetches a tidy dollar on Discogs, so the current generation of Drexciya advocates with this lacking in their collection are advised to investigate post-haste!

Fire
Hagen (Feel Some Love)
Fire (Invisible Conga People remix)
Review: Accurately pigeonholing the work of analogue enthusiast Dollkraut has always been notoriously difficult. Since dropping his debut 12" in 2009, the Dutch producer has gleefully jumped between styles, offering leftfield pop-tinged takes on deep house, disco and future jazz. "Fire", his debut for Permanent Vacation, is similarly hard to pin down, with loud, long, melancholic chords and high-pitched vocals riding a snappy, distorted drum machine rhythm. There's a little more punk-funk influence to the equally scratchy "Hagen", where woozy chords and odd spoken vocal samples ride a thumping broken house beat. The package's finest moment, though, is arguably Incredible Conga People's unfeasibly wonky, deep techno-meets-deep house-meets-analogue electronica revision of the title track. Like much of their work, it's oddly intoxicated.

Set It Off (7" edit)
Set It Off (7" instrumental)
Review: In the canon of certified party starters, few tracks deserve their place as much as "Set It Off" by Strafe does. Mixed by disco legend Walter Gibbons, "Set It Off" was hugely ahead of it's time when originally released back in 1984 and it still goes off today when the more considered selectors drop it in their sets. US label Hard Soul has form with the track and Strafe in general, enlisting the likes of Jovonn to remix it for a 12" release a few years back and this dinky 7" edition of "Set It Off" is a must for anyone that doesn't yet own the cut in their collection.

Goloko Dhama
Sadhu
Review: Once a compelling production unit on the superb Thisisnotanexit label, it's been a while since we heard anything from the Spectral Empire duo of Kyle Martin & George Thompson. More recently the pair has been engaged in other projects, with Martin collaborating with Jonny Nash as Land Of Light and Thompson casting a cosmic spell on the Andy's Weatherall and Blake with his Black Merlin output. Back together as Spectral Empire for this 12" on Nu Earth Kitchen, Martin and Thompson's studio chemistry hasn't dissipated in the time apart on the basis of the two cuts here. Lead track "Goloko Dhama" uses it's nine minute duration wisely as Spectral Empire go deep into a brooding sci fi flecked disco groove. Face down "Sadhu" finds Martin and Thompson veer into almost techno territory driven by some brilliantly sputtery 808s.

Review: Ever since the label's formation in 1991, Skam has strived to support innovative artists based around its home in NW England. VHS Head - AKA Ade Blacow - fits into this category rather well; not only does he hail from Blackpool, but he also sources the majority of his sounds from old VHS tapes. This second album follows some four years after the VHS Head debut set Trademark Ribbons of Gold arrived and is a thoroughly enjoyable listen, delivering a quirky but attractive blend of cut-up electronic funk, bespoke IDM rhythms, vintage synth melodies and wayward electronics. If Dam Funk, Funkineven, Autechre and Boards of Canada got down in the studio together, it would probably sound like this.
