I-N-I
Burnin Dance
Gunshot Riddem
Review: Following some legendary appearances on Lion Charge, Madd returns to the darker side with three killer peak timers on his own Roots & Future imprint... "I-N-I" is a Truth-style pummeller with overwhelming subs, rolling drums and big bass gurgles on the eights. "Burnin Dance" fires up with a great vocal sample and echoes of melodica before dropping into some serious low-end darkness. "Gunshot" follows a similar suit... Plunging sub drops and pristine drums lay down a syncopated jam that can't help but make you move. Dubbed out danger, this is Madd at his most dancefloor-focused.

Roll With The Punches (Kowton linear mix)
Roll With The Punches (Kowton dub mix)
Review: It's a brave person that agrees to remix a classic, and they are even braver when they turn in two so step forward Kowton who has delivered a pair of signature refixes of the 2007 Pev favourite "Roll With The Punches". Aimed as a bruising marker for the upcoming Punch Drunk compilation Worth The Weight Vol. 2: From The Edge, both remixes here hit the spot with precision force, retaining Pev's fluttering refrain but aligning it to some signature Kowton rhythmic programming. The latter dub version is exclusive to this 12" whilst the forthcoming compilation looks to be a worthy successor to 2010's edition, drawing on a crack squad of Punch Drunk affiliates including Young Echo crew, Ekoplekz, Bass Clef and talented Bristol upstarts like Hodge and Andy Mac.

Champion Dub
Invasion
Methot VI
Review: We're not sure what New Zealand duo Perverse has been eating for breakfast, but their latest material is definitely harder than the original dungeon-bound sonics they first made a name for themselves with. With nuances of Thelem and Killawatt - while sounding wholly their own - there's a distinct loopy, almost techno-like vibe to each of these three cuts... "Champion Dub" is authentic roots material, all spacey and loaded with crystalline drum dynamics, "Invasion", meanwhile is an ugly, bass-busted peaktime jam that's coded with serious funk attitude while "Methot VI" teases with fractured stabs and a fantastically processed vocal loop. Trippy and tasty, don't sleep on this one!

Review: Genre mashing production unit LV have enjoyed a fruitful partnership with British Nigerian vocalist Josh Idehen since first colliding on the 38 EP for Keysound Recordings back in 2010. Having flirted with Hyperdub for the release of last year's Sebenza LP, LV and Joshua return to their spiritual home Keysound for third LP Islands. Whereas previous long players have seen LV manipulate Idehen's vocals, Islands finds Joshua given centre stage and lyrically exploring themes such as "murder, desperate loneliness, obsessions and sexually-unfulfilling nights out". Despite this new approach, Islands is a very confident album, with LV's arrangements perfectly complementing the tone Idehen takes with each track. "Talk Trim" and "Make It Count" are particular highlights.

Review: There has been no shortage of bright and bold crossover styles from Slackk over the past four years, with impressive bouts for Numbers, Unknown To The Unknown and Diskotopia providing a platform for the London-based producer to become something of a figurehead in the current instrumental grime scene. Now, having spent some time getting cosy with Local Action, he offers the label his long anticipated debut album and takes the chance to drop no less than 16 new takes on his grime-infused musicality with barely a filler or interlude in sight. While the tempos and rhythms may shift, the atmosphere remains consistently in that alien space somewhere out ahead of us, part video game fantasy and part urban uncertainty.

Untitled
Titan
Shook
Legendary
Review: Deep dark, future-focussed madness from Bristol's darkest partnership Asa and Sorrow. "Legendary" has been doing the rounds with a select few heads for a while now with its bubbling bass undulations, sharp Eski beats, synth-string stabs and cut up grime vocals, fusing to create a physical bomb that is guaranteed to cause chaos. The rest of the EP stands up to the duo's near-legendary status, too: "Untitled" carefully balances harmonic vocal textures and groaning bass attitude, "Titan" is undiluted grime drama as it pings you across the dance with cheery aggression and "Shook" flickers and flutters with dynamic choppy mischief and a mean soft skank.

Express Yourself (feat Nicky Da B)
Review: First released digitally over the summer, the ubiquitous Diplo brings Mad Decent's vinyl preferring followers up to speed with Random White Dude Be Everywhere. Look past the Twitter referencing artwork, and this album tethers the seemingly disparate strands of Diplo's arena-slaying sound into an all encompassing collection of recent hits and exclusive collaborations Besides huge hits such as "Express Yourself", "Boy Oh Boy" and "Biggie Bounce", notable insertions are "6th Gear" (a serious, head-knocking ghetto trap vibe with Alvaro), and "Techno" (an epic slab of hardstyle slammery with Yellow Claw, LNY TNZ and Wacka Flocka Flame).

Cool Me Off
Cool Me Off (Chopstick Dubplate remix)
Review: The Moonshine Recordings crew return with another platter that matters, brandishing a double drop of skank up business to nice up any dancefloor. "Cool Me Off" finds Murda and Tuffist providing the perfect digi dub minor key bed for Roots and Rose to lay down their heartfelt harmonies. Junglists will flip for the B where Murda goes on a solo flex to add his Chopstick Dub twist with amen-rattling precision. One listen and you'll find this an appropriately titled slab; you will need to cool off after dropping this!

Perverse - "Subcontinent"

Truth - "Questions"
Review: Here is the first of two 12" samplers preceding The Compilation, a self explanatory label collection from the Artikal crew which lays down a tasty marker for what to expect when the full 14 track release drops later this month. Naturally label co-founder J Kenzo leads the way with "Straight Defeat" which features the bubbling rap flow of Collinjah, but there's plenty more to sink your teeth into. Check the swinging minimalism and bulbous kicks of Biome's "Solstice" and Truth's chop-slapping stark design on "Questions".

Phrex - "Drumworks"
Cutkachi - "Moonlight"
Review: Swiss city Berne may not be the first mainland European city you think of when someone throws the question "Name a hotspot for experimental bass music?" at you, but the city's newly established RE:ST label aim to change that. Founded by some of the people responsible for bringing the best of Bass music to Berne, the debut RE:ST release offers a platform for local talent Phrex and Cutkachi to shine and they certainly do, manning a side each and bringing their own distinct takes on club music between the 128-140 BPM range. Phrex leads the way with a killer exercise in fx laden sub heavy polyrhythms that wouldn't sound out of place on Deep Medi. The B Side veers into the grey zone between bass music and techno as Cutkachi flexes his 4/4 muscles with the stuttering late night deepness of "Moonlight".

Thelem - "Foul Play"
TMSV - "Scorpion"
Skeptical - "Skavenger"
Sleeper - "Coxsone Dub"
Review: The second of two samplers from Artikal's inaugural compilation project - simply title The Compilation - this one features smouldering jams from some of the biggest names on the imprint... Thelem reverts from his current techno outings with a bleepy adventure into dubstep foundations, TMSV weaves a dense tribal web on "Scorpion", Skeptical adds a punctuated skippy rhythm and subtle dark growl to proceedings "Skavenger" while Sleeper concludes proceedings with the deeply trippy "Coxsone Dub". Heaviness.

Slow Dancing With Ms Haversham To Moments In Love In Satis House
The Fantasy Between Your Lips
Review: In the aftermath of Moleskin closing out the 2013 Keysound compilation This Is How We Roll with a slab of emotive grime, the UK producer has experienced something of a breakthrough to be a major voice in contemporary grime. The Goon Club Allstars collective that Moleskin is part of has a real star in the making in the shape of MssingNo whilst his own self titled release for the label is up their with this year's best. A full debut on Keysound had to happen sooner or later and the three track Satis House expands on the approach of his prior label contribution. All were written between 2011 and 2014, a time when "illusion and fantasy" were key themes in his work and Moleskin had withdrawn from the clubbing circuit, with the results taking on a more cinematic tone, albeit one realised in the hyper defined world of Jam City.
