Gorgon Sound - "Find Jah Way"
Dubkasm - "Find Jah Way" (version)
Review: Peng Sound revisit their highly sought after debut release. Just shy of two years old, it still rattles and hums with authentic dub warmth and drama. Gorgon Sound's original bubbles with bouncy heat as the bass modulations spring off the double-up kicks. Dubkasm's version is equally alluring as we're invited into a much wider space where guitar shots and other melodic elements are entwined into the mix. One timeless composition, two killer versions, if you weren't lucky enough to grab this first time round, you know what to do!

Praise (5:25)
Review: Not a lot is known about the talent behind this anonymous white 10" besides heavily hushed rumours and hearsay. Focusing on the source is superfluous when the beat chat as eloquently as they do on this one sided slab.Soaked in treacle-thick subs and lorry loads of reverb, it's a deep-seeded meditative joint that's far more dub than it is step. With a yearning, spacious dynamic laced throughout, this will warm up a dance with real slow burning appeal.

Bring Me Down (feat T-Man)
False Imprint
Review: Thelem returns to Innamind after a few excursions on Artikal and Blackbox with two firing examples of why dubstep still excites and amazes in 2013. "Bring Me Down" has been bubbling since Outlook Festival last summer; featuring the emphatic lyrical warnings of emerging MC T Man, it's powered with such a bulbous bass riff you can't help but swagger. "False Imprint" comes with the same level of gritty gravitas; swapping mic-fronting for a series of psychedelic washes, it's another heavyweight from Thelem. Powerful stuff.

Take Me There (5:08)
Never Too Late (5:50)
Review: The first single to be taken from Maya Jane Coles' new dub-minded Nocturnal Sunshine project, both "Take Me There" and "Never Too Late" explore the fertile pastures amid the tech/dub axis with garage-minded glee. The former is a relentless, jittering stepper peppered with an array of twisted processed vocals. The latter, meanwhile, comes with more of Get Physical-style tubular bass and thundering rhythm that will sit in almost any style DJ's playlist from deep house to dubstep. If you like these, you'll love the album.

Monster (5:11)
Despite (5:38)
Review: Prolific South London producer Kromestar has been a celebrated name on the dubstep circuit for the best part of a decade, dropping acclaimed singles on a wide variety of labels, including Hotflush, Deep Medi and Dubstar. Here he debuts on the brand new Nebula Music Group imprint, delivering a veritable assault on the senses in the shape of "Monster" - all ragged, pulverizing wobble bass, cheeky rave vocal stabs and massive, reverb-laden beats. It sounds like the sort of record that will be greeted with rapturous cheers when dropped at up-coming summer festivals. Flipside "Despite" is an altogether deeper concoction, with classic dubstep rhythms and heavy dub bass being joined by spooky melodies and spitting electronics.

Come To Mind (feat Lelijveld) (3:02)
Review: Aside from Mala's Deep Medi Musik, Truth has released on a large number of dubstep imprints and he has already churned out three albums prior to this latest effort for Firepower Records. Featuring his familiar cartoon-goth artwork, The Ark is as deep and nasty as you'd come to expect from Truth. "The Ark" itself is a heavy bass stepper with titanic folds of mutant bass engulfing just about anything in their sight. This album, much like the rest of Truth's work, isn't for those dabbling in a lil' bass now and again, but those who want it punched into their chest on a daily basis.

Review: Sophomore session heaviness: Joker returns with his long-awaited second album The Mainframe, and it's clear his purple shades are still hooked on tight. Developing his distinctive brew of bass and rich synth funk, Joker's unique signature is scribbled across the whole piece of work; from the epic, orchestral dubstep drama of "Boss Mode" to the gritty, widescreen R&B of "Wise Enough" via the Swindle-style jazz of "An Intervening Episode" and the concept-style three-piece "Scene" narrative where the real tale of album unfolds. Second album cliches are ten a penny... The Mainframe sees Joker shoving his purple-gloved finger up at them all. Essential.

Nautilus (5:59)
Nautilus (RDG remix) (6:36)
Review: Rumours and hushed gossip have shrouded "Nautilus" in mystique for almost four years now. All sludgy, slo-mo and baked in dense pads and processed dog barks, it still sounds as crazy as it did when Strago first unveiled it all those years ago. Likewise for RDG's loopy, percussion-primed tech rub. The wait is over... But hurry as Niteshade are only pressing 300 copies of this and promise never to repress. You know what to do.

Fallen Soul (4:09)
Here Comes The Toxic Rain (5:50)
Punarbhava (4:52)
Review: Inspired by an abandoned Ukrainian city, Piezo and Clearlight (both respected solo artists in their own rights) join forces to create an icy fiver of uncompromising deep modern dub compositions. "Pripyat" opens with icicle-minded designs before dropping into a spacious percussive jam that's at once unforgiving and cosmic. Dig deeper for the guttural bass and tech-rhythmic dancefloor-minded "Scourge", the trippy, liquid drum lollops of "Fallen Soul", the slow-and-sludgy techno march "Here Comes The Toxic Rain" and the lonely, fearsome and highly isolating designs of "Punarbhava" which owes more to modern classical than it does dub or dance music. An immense, occasionally challenging and highly thought-provoking project.

Review: Nine years deep and still sounding as future as ever, Kode9 and The Spaceape's first album is historic in so many different directions... It's the first ever Hyperdub album, Kode9's sonic scope and barbed soundscapes and Spaceape's paranoid poetry and rhythmic narratives complement and tailor each other in a way no other dubstep-related producer and MC have ever sounded (before and since), the beats remain a unique, diverse, creative dynamic almost a decade later... And, sadly, the late Spaceape's stories now come laden with added portent poignancy. All proceeds from this reissue go to Stephen Samuel Gordon's family; if you haven't got this on vinyl you know what to do.
