Aeon Fusion I (2016 Stretched edit)
Evocation Part II (remastered)
Review: The UK's newly inaugurated Future Primitive label holds a candle to its name by unearthing two Leo Anibaldi productions from deep within the Roman's voluminous back catalogue. The two-track 12" debut sees Anibaldi provide the label with a contemporary 'Stretched Edit' of 1994 production "Fusion 1", a cut lifted from the Aeon EP originally released on the now defunct Italian label, ACV. Future Primitive has also given ambient number "Evocation Part II" a full remaster and B-side privileges, honouring an esoteric production from Anibaldi's Void LP that was originally released on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label in 1996.

PG Sounds & DJ Fett Burger - "Track 1" (14:55)
Dynamo Dreesen - "Track 2" (6:04)
PG Sounds - "Track 3" (8:21)
Review: Number 14 from SW and SVN's delightful SUED label is a split artists affair offering further adventures in the art of extended, reduced rhythmics. The A-side is devoted to 15 minutes of Fett Burger and the PG Sounds pairing of Phillip Gelberg and SVN locking into a simple yet infectious groove and seemingly never letting go. As with a lot of SUED releases, the bottom end doesn't really come across on the sound clips - you need to hear this one out loud. Face down and we are treated to the rare sight of a solo production from Dynamo Dreesen which finds the Acido boss honing in on an off-kilter groove whilst PG Sounds round it out with a track that sounds like an offcut from the Berlin beatdown sessions that made up last year's SUED 10.

Tzusing - "Nonlinear War" (5:55)
L/F/D/M - "Moth Holes" (6:12)
Silent Servant - "The Touch" (6:10)
Maelstrom - "Lithium" (5:33)
Review: Cititrax's first Tracks 12" sampler did a good job in showcasing material from some of the Brooklyn-based label's favourite contemporary producers. This follow-up, arriving only a few short months after the first, aims to do the same. Returning for his second appearance, Tsuzing kicks things off with the razor-sharp shuffle of "Nonlinear War", whose intoxicating electronics and wild synth lines recall Brown Album-era Orbital, before London-based L/F/D/M takes a trip into bleak techno territory with the acid-laden "Mouth Holes". Flip for Silent Servant's deliciously grandiose, muscular electro-disco workout "The Touch", and the clanking industrial percussion, EBM attitude and humming electro beats of Maelstrom's "Lithium".

Crystal (Mike Selvito 730 reshape) (7:20)
Crystal (G Haslam Dekalb Avenue mix) (8:05)
Review: Brooklyn based DJ, former music journalist at Little White Earbuds and now producer making his debut on San Francisco's acclaimed Honey Soundsystem: it's Justin Cudmore delivering "Crystal" a dirty, dusty and downright jackin' 303 acid journey that's just made to play at Sunday night up at Panorama Bar. On the flip are two killer remixes, first up by Bunker NYC resident Mike Servito whose "730 Reshape" coats the track in good layers of dust and rust for properly convincing vintage tape reel flair. Finally, Gunnar Haslam's "Dekalb Avenue Mix" keeps the gritty retro aesthetic intact but bumps up the tempo for peak time headrush, Chicago circa 1988 via Brooklyn Heights.

Review: Given Don't Be Afraid's long relationship with Manuel 'M Gun' Gonzales, it's pleasing to see Semtek's label releasing the Detroit producer's long-awaited debut album. Predictably, it's a fine set, containing a mix of far-out techno throbbers - the hypnotic, piano-laden alien funk of "Half Past 3", fuzzy "Past Due", and classic Derrick May revivalism of "Bed & Breakfast" - dusty electro jams (the brilliant "NVR"), and more experimental downtempo fare (see the bass-heavy, dubbed-out "Nobs" and jazzy opener "Pok"). While it arguably takes mutiple listens to really peel back the layers and get your head round Gonzalez's impressive use of textures, it's more than worth the effort. Put simply, Gentium more than delivers on its' promise.

Thin Air (7:28)
I Repeat (6:06)
All Out (8:03)
Waybackmachine (5:58)
Review: A Made Up Sound man Dave Huismans is not messing around on this 12", his first outing on Delsin for six years. Opener "Thin Air" may contain creepy melodies, strange samples and curious orchestral samples, but these largely play second fiddle to a booming techno rhythm. "All Out" and "Waybackmachine" also hit home hard, with trademark rhythmic madness and densely layered chords combining to create two hectic and intense broken techno smashers. Even the EP's most laidback moment, the noticeably deeper "I Repeat", owes its' power to a surging sub-bass line and some snappy post-dubstep rhythms, rather than its' faintly unsettling electronics and melancholic musical elements.

Moon River Membrane

Casper (featuring Patricia)
Rx
Review: For the debut of New York's anticipated Purple Trax label, a new formation of key players in Brooklyn's underground debuts with an EP sure to entrance fans of L.I.E.S., White Material, and other established NYC labels. Composed of Terekke, local DJ/producer Jan Woo, and Erez Avissar, label head and founder of the respected Weird Magic parties, Wabi Sabi's dusky and diverse sound comes from its origin in loft jams, but tracks like the closing 'Rx' with its powerful dub techno framework show the work of seasoned talents. Patricia's cameo on 'Casper' is the record's strangest sound, a propulsive house groove with explosions of crackling texture and a bassline deeply buried in fog, while 'Babi' stutters along between the drum pulse and its disappearances into deep wells of delayed vocal samples and gentle melodies. Vibes are saved for the opener 'Moon River Membrane', where Terreke's characteristic cosmic haze comes out more heavily, complemented by the genre-bending psychedelic tendencies of Avissar's programming and Woo's weighty low-end.

Aphrobite (6:09)
Morning Loving (5:27)
M_Animal (4:07)
Review: Fresh from delivering a fine album of experimental electronics for Further Records (the ambient leaning Hyperboreal), Manuel Fogliata pops up Parisian imprint Latency with a pleasingly varied four-tracker. As if to emphasize his techno roots, he begins with something big and heavy - the pulsating rhythm, fluttering deep space electronics and hypnotic dancefloor intensity of "OK Face". Fogliata further proves his techno credentials with the rather brilliant "Morning Loving", a decidedly picturesque chunk of ambient techno that's both danceable, and aesthetically pleasing. Elsewhere, he pauses for a breather via the delay-laden beauty of ambient cut "Aphrobite", and wanders into trippy modular synthesizer territory on the beat-less "M_Animal".

It's You I See (6:54)
Bafff (6:15)
For Those Who Feel (6:09)
Review: Collaborations from Dutch pair Steffi and Martyn under the Doms & Deykers alias have been frustratingly intermittent with just the sole 12" and a contribution to last year's Zehn boxset from Ostgut Ton. This 12", Dedicated To Those Who Feel, is apparently the precursor to a full album from the duo which is great news! "It's You See" sets the tone, cleverly fusing 808 State style chords, pitched-up vocal samples, warehouse-friendly analogue bass, and the sweaty hustle of techno rhythms. "Bafff" continues the retro-futurist theme, with restless rave stabs and psychedelic acid lines peppering a locked-in groove, before they explore deeper - if no less loved-up - territory on the colourful warmth of "For Those Who Feel". It is, as expected, a rather fine EP.

Burning Heretics (6:04)

Control (6:01)
Genuflect (6:44)
Review: Blueprint's 20th anniversary celebrations wouldn't be complete without a new EP from British techno veteran Oliver Ho, who first appeared on the imprint way back in 1996. Opener "Burning Heretics" is a typically no-nonsense affair, with Ho effortlessly joining the dots between contemporary Surgeon, modern industrial techno, and the ragged intensity of purist acid house. "Worship" is deep, out-there, metallic and partially ambient, while "Control" is a near perfect exercise in bouncy acid techno. Finally, Ho presses the button marked "tribal" on the loose-limbed, broken techno brilliance of "Genuflect". As the old cliche goes, this is "all killer", with "no filler".

Tujurikkuja - "Omerta" (live) (10:51)
Rrose - "Omerta" (version) (7:16)
Review: The arrival of a new release on Eaux sees Rrose break with tradition, seeking out the self-quipped "ambient nihilism" of Tujurikkuja, aka California duo Kit Clayton and Chris Dixon. Separately both artists have rich histories in the West Coast underground to dig through (fun fact: Clayton worked with Juan Mendez on the late '90s Cytrax label) but their joint output as Tujurikkuja is restricted to a pair of releases on San Francisco label Computer Music. Omerta sees Clayton and Dixon turn in a titular analogue improvisation that fans of extended abstract electronic pioneers like Dilloway will delight in. It's been pressed at 45rpm but Eaux recommend listeners approach at 33rpm! Rrose offers a version on the flip that is more appropriate for dancefloor deployment.

Review: The past few years have seen Keiran Whitefield develop a rep for hardware-based techno under his Ansome name, with his live sets complemented by a growing 12" discography featuring slamming records for Mord, South London Analogue Material and Mindcut. It was no surprise to see Ansome align with UK daddy Perc Trax last year, a union inaugurated with the no-holds-barred 12" The White Horse. Attempting an album is seen as a right of passage for techno artists, so here comes Ansome with his debut long player for Perc Trax, Stowaway. Ten tracks deep, Ansome's debut LP mixes up the type of 5am wall shakers he is known for with an exploration of more spacious and atmospheric tracks.

Epilogue
Review: Having first appeared on the monumental Techno 2: The Next Generation compilation in 1990, Octave One swiftly set out their sound to become the Detroit techno icons they currently are with the Octivation EP for 430 West. The rest they say is history. Given the reissue clamour of anything related to the birth of Detroit techno, it's quite strange that the record hasn't been licensed for an official new edition in the ensuing two decades or so, until now that is! Presented here in it's promo edition, you get a chance to here "Sonic Fusion", a track that never officially came out and was replaced by "There and Beyond". Any self respecting Detroit techno fan will know "Nicolette" and "Paradise" and anyone interested in increasing their knowledge of the genre should consider a must have!

Dan Curtin ranks up there with the best of them, with the Cleveland native a key artist in shaping the techno sound and much more! The recent revival of his Metamorphic label seems to have inspired a new wave of creativity in Curtin, demonstrated on The Waters Of Mars, this five track 12" of hardware driven, organic techno that ripples with future thinking intent and no small degree of propulsive intensity.

Review: The Zehn 12" sampler series from cam Ostgut Ton reaches edition Sieben and features Martyn, Atom TM, Tobias and Planetary Assault Systems on the cut. It's the DC-based Dutchman that takes the A-side honours with "Jah Bedouin", a trademark hybrid cruncher from Martyn that pairs a UK rhythmic bent with tunnelling dub techno vibes and the occasional, yet wholly enthusiastic vocal sample that inspired the title. Face down Tobias and Atom TM experiment with a darker strain of sinewy techno on "Physik E7532" whilst Luke Slater is in banger mode for closing PSA cut "Hama Static".

Review: Uwe Zahn is back. The German producer behind the legendary album Tides on City Centre Offices created one of the most seminal IDM albums ever but has kept mainly a low profile since but still releasing rather steadily since. This new one on Kenneth Christiansen's Echocord imprint sees a fitting home for his dub inflected experiments this time around. Starting out with the functional and textured "Modul 1", "Modul 5" is very reminiscent of legends like Maurizio and Fluxion (who indeed pushed for this very release apparently), while the ring modulating Arctic textures of "Module 4" are completely mesmerising and sublime. The master returns.

Review: Brassfoot's first two outings on Apron - the Lord Tusk hook-up Space Invaders, and last year's untitled EP - were typically unfussy. "Unlucky Charms", the opening salvo of this third release for Funkineven's imprint, takes a similar approach, with vintage electro motifs underpinning distorted percussion and wild electronics. Elsewhere, his trademark fuzziness is applied in a number of contrasting ways, from the clanking, locked-in, rave-inspired throb of "Retune & Runaway", to the bizarre sonic assault that is crusty closer "Black Pow Wow". For pace purposes, he also offers a breather in the shape of jazz-tinged deep house shuffler "Lost In The Sauce".

De Monstris (5:14)
Review: In case you're a techno head whose been living under a rock for the last three years, Regis, Silent Servant and James Ruskin started a label called Jealous God, and on it they release their more abstract music, and that of others. December is the hand-picked candidate this time, a Paris-based producer named Tomas More who has previously appeared on Blackest Ever Black division A14 and In Paradisum, among other labels. "Greed Happiness" is more industrial drum thrashing than techno, but its minimal melodies and hard beats render it totally playable alongside a James Ruskin cut, while "Exponential Growth" is a more traditional, heads-down nodder. "Civil Duties" is looser, less rooted in traditional Bargain 'boom boom boom boom' and sports a truly sci-fi bassline, whereas "De Monstris" is a cavernous set of drones held in place by a repetitive snare that just keeps on giving.

They return to the excellent Northern Electronics with an extended LP, eleven cuts of sporadic, noisy pseudo techno to wreck both your speakers and your jaws. From "Hatets Sanger" through to "De A Dar Vi Kom Ifran, A Dit Vi Ska, Sa De A Lika Bra A Borja Vanja Av Sa Me A Leva", we are immersed in a world of icy sonics that range from the violent and beat-driven, to the utterly placid and desolate. Review: The Vargas brothers are back; look out! When not turning Los Angeles upside down with their notorious warehouse parties, Vidal and Vangelis run the esteemed Droid Behaviour imprint with Drumcell but strike out on their own with the Inner Sense EP on their own imprint VRV. "Coruscate" is stomping and dusty warehouse techno with doomy chords that fans of the Fachwerk sound will surely dig, while the title track is the kind of steely and cyclical techno with functionality that will be a worthy addition to any serious DJs crate. Finally "Primeval" gets more moody and reduced but really retains its fury in its restraint, chugging away like a steamtrain through the darklands; this one's the winner by far.

Review: Tabernacle's offshoot Ride The Gyroscope returns following an opening two-release salvo from mystery entity The Boneless One and this time round it's the turn of UK electro don EDMX. Here he throws down some rusted and dusty techno with a firm nod to Detroit on Gyroride004 on which follows up the label's last release as well! On the first side there's the cyclical and mechanical bump and grind of "Infinite Temperature" which is reminiscent of classic Orlando Voorn while the pumping and jacking acid storm "Infinite Temperature" will take you all the way back to the Packard Plant circa '93. On the flip we've got some spectacular dancefloor drama from the darkside on this flattering tribute to the Motor City's second wave with "Vampire Bats Attack" and its rapid fire 909 attack and whoop melody but he really saves the best for last on "The Judge".
