Priestess (9:03)
Bravado (6:19)
Review: This two-track missive is a significant one for Harvey Sutherland. Not only does it mark the debut of his Clarity Recordings imprint, but also his first recorded outing with regular backing band Bermuda. Opener "Priestess" is something of an epic, with Sutherland working a tasty groove - think languid, live drums, thick synth-bass and spiraling electronics - for several minutes before unleashing some killer jazz-funk keys and Herbie Hancock style solos. In contrast, flipside "Bravado" is a much more spacey affair, with regular, sweaty drum fills and groovy live bass underpinning wild synthesizer motifs and twinkling electric piano. Both are dancefloor-ready, but warm and loose enough to please jazz dancers as much as disco heads.

Babyphonk (DJ Chicken No Guitar edit) (6:06)
I Gave My Love (Shan & Gerd Janson mix) (6:13)
Deep (feat Seebase - DJ Oyster edit) (5:51)
Review: Only those with long memories will remember David 'Move D' Moufang's short-lived Housegrooves alias. It was only used for a single 1993 release, Volume 1, a 12" that has long been in-demand amongst deep house diggers. Misfit Melodies have decided to give it the reissue treatment, partnering two of the EP's most lauded cuts with fresh remixes and edits. In the former category you'll find the low-slung analogue bass, rolling beats and spacey synth melodies of "I Gave My Love", and the more bumpin', New Jersey influenced Seebase collaboration "Deep", which here gets a slight edit from DJ Oyster. The most impressive rework comes from Shan and Gerd Janson, who turn "I Gave My Love" into a saucer-eyed chunk of piano-heavy, rave-era breakbeat-house bliss.

Reach For Love (5:14)
You've Got Me (5:16)
Review: This is Adam Wickens' - aka ADMIN - first appearance for Kolour LTD, and we're happy to see the UK deep house producer continuing his steady path to maturity. This two-tracker is part of the label's 'LTD 10s' series, and this particular one is the fourth instalment; we love it not only for the quality that has graced the releases up till now, but also because we're fools for the ten inch format. "Reach For Love" sounds like it could be on Moodymann's Mahogani, a sensual house charmer complete with gorgeous piano keys and assembled with pure hypnotic delight. Side B's "You've Got Me" is similarly cool and laid-back, but the beat is speedier here, the percussion more floor-centric and the vocals sexier than ever. What a gorgeous little tip - cop it!

Teflon Dons - "Damn Mosquitos!"
Tristan Da Cunha - "Hit Up On This!"
Ebony Cuts - "Disco Credit"
Review: Here's something to get excited about: a first missive from the My Love Is Underground camp for three long years. In an attempt to make up for lost time, boss Jeremy Underground has gathered together seven fresh tracks, and stretched them across two weighty slabs of wax. As usual, the featured deep house cuts tend towards the classic and U.S-inspired, variously doffing a cap to New Jersey, New York and Chicago, via ear-pleasing organ riffs (see DJ Steaw's excellent "East Orange"), soulful vocal snippets (Teflon Dons), clear boompty influences (Tristan Da Cunha's Salt 'n' Pepa-sampling "Hit Up On This"), and breezy disco (Ebony Cuts). Franck Roger's contribution, "For Me", is also one of his sleaziest, basement-friendly tracks to date.

Warrior Code (6:40)
Leave The Funk To Us (9:43)
Review: In his usual no-nonsense fashion, Theo Parrish has not said much about the surprise release of Gentrified Love Part 2, despite it being his first fresh material since 2014. The EP features contributions from two of the Detroit's legends oldest friends: Rotating Assembly member Duminie DePorres, and original Slum Village member Waajeed. A-side "Warrior Code" is a quietly foreboding proposition, with spiraling electronics, jammed keys and cosmic chords riding a chunky, West London style broken beat groove. Flip for the altogether brighter and breezier "Leave The Funk To Us", a jaunty and jazz-wise 4/4 excursion blessed with some superb, Herbie Hancock style jazz-funk keys.

Purpurner Nurnwurz (5:06)
Winkelrose (4:48)
Cheap Fusion Intro (2:33)
BE (4:50)
Review: MPC-wielding deep house maverick Max Graef is the latest hot producer to pitch up on Steven Julien's on-point Apron Records. He wisely uses it as an excuse to go a little crazy, opening the E.P with the off-kilter analogue hip-hop/distrorted electro/broken beat fusion of the decidedly trippy "Purpurner Numwurz". Graef doffs a cap to the dusty, lo-fi house and techno of labels such as L.I.E.S and Lobster Theremin on the dirt-encrusted deepness of "Winkelrose", before unfurling his boogie and jazz-funk influences on the rubbery sample jam "Cheap Fusion Intro". Finally, his much-explored jazz influences return on the bluesy deep house brilliance of closer "BE", which sounds like something you'd hear on Rhythm Section International.

Review: Moonrise Hill Material co-founder Bruno Boumedil has enjoyed a successful 2016 to date, releasing fine material under the Folamour alias for a variety of labels. Here he helps launch the Make Believe label with a trio of tasty deep house cuts. There's a definite Andres feel to the jazzy, loose, warm and bumpin' opener "Whateva Sis", with winding horn lines and plucked electric guitars riding a rich drum rhythm. This vibe is explored further on the sample-rich deep house shuffle of "Dream To Love", while epic flipside "Reflets Sur L'Eau" sees him make merry with hazy, melodies build-ups, chiming melody lines, and fizzing, cymbal-heavy percussion.

Sleepytimeboogie (1:05)
Review: Over the years Garth Be has been spotted in a few different guises in the house underground. The Manchester-based producer has dropped albums on Sweet Sticky in the past as well as delivering 12"s to Stillove4music and Hudd Trax, and now he's been snapped up by Ruf Dug for this extended outing on Ruf Kutz that displays the breadth of his talents. "Falling Leafe" is a beautiful slice of dreamy, laid back piano house while "Amo K" channels an equally blissful Larry Heard style. "To Too Much 2" is a different beast with its minimalistic Chicago approach, but there's also much promise buried in the all-too-brief beatdown "Sleepytimeboogie".

Mystery Track (6:41)
Caravan Of Dreams (5:32)
Hardtalk (4:10)
Fountain (7:44)
Dream Of The Red Chamber (8:38)
Review: Launched earlier this year with the saturated boogie of Atlanta's Moon B, Going Good demonstrated they were a label with a keen ear for unheralded talent, which is further strengthened on this second 12" release from Aquarian Foundation. This Vancouver group are part of a much larger collective called Mood Hut whose name is gonna be popping up all over the place this year, and rightly so on the basis of this Silent Teaching EP. There's a charming fuzziness to "Mystery Track" that's reminiscent of Huerco S but Aquarian Foundation still have their own rhythmic swagger and it shines through here, whilst "Caravan Of Dreams" opts for a more introspective tone, vaguely reminiscent of Drexciya ruminating on their aqua tax bill. "Hard Talk" shows AQN FDN's capacity to drop the tempo, lazily hazing out on a head fuck beat down tip, whilst "Dream Of Red Chamber" is simply mind bending. They called Going Good for a reason you know!

From Old (3:34)
Review: With a story intrinsically woven into the fabric of the Deep Explorer catalogue, Leo Gunn presents his debut album in a sultry haze of natural, heartfelt deep house with all the soul the genre has to offer. The LP begins in a laconic fashion with the slow-ticking "Leo & Leo Jr" before "Journey Inwards" presents a more focused kind of track for steady warm ups and hazy mornings. "Digital vs MIDI" is equally a subtle kind of party starter with its solid rhythmic foundation and "Home Base" fixes its gaze on a more lively time of night, but here and throughout the mood is predominantly mellow, as it should be with a release on Deep Explorer.

Always On (club mix) (8:40)
Always On (bonus beats) (3:29)
Always On (original mix) (5:03)
Four (Max mix) (5:36)
Review: It would be fair to say that Mood Hut's latest release is something of an all-star affair. Produced and 'dubbed' by House of Doors, with Pender Street Steppers on synths/Rhodes, and Max D providing a typically swinging drum track, "Always On" is a typically warm, rich, evocative and floor-friendly affair. In typical Mood Hut fashion, the "Club Mix" is simultaneously stoned and deliciously floor-friendly - think jazz-funk-meets-broken beat-via-deep house, and you're close - with Evelyn's sweet vocal dreamily floating in and out of the mix. Max D's brilliant drums come to the fore on the killer "Bonus Beats" version, while the "Original Mix" is a deeper and altogether more horizontal affair. Starry deep house closer "Four" is pretty tasty, too. Shouts to 4Claudio for his 'Legal' input!

Jesse Futerman - "A Tribute To Horace" (3:10)
Seb Wildblood - "Open Up" (5:29)
Philip Budny - "Eclipses" (6:47)
Review: The pride of London house music, Church, bursts through the scene with the third instalment of its Church Volumes series, an EP which sees the energetic imprint truly integrate themselves into the best of the best, in terms of deep and jazzy deep house music. Nicholas' opener "Alma", for instance, is a supremely melodic slice of jazz-house with a Rhodes playing beautifully in the background, and Jesse Futerman's "A Tribute To Horace" prolongs that same essence of jazz onto a much more cinematic and loose musical terrain - a real stunner, whichever style of music you're into. On the flip, things turn slightly narrower and more club-centric thanks to Seb Wildblood's itchy deep house groover, "Open Up", while "Eclipses" by Philip Budny chugs away at a mid-tempo stance amid a groovy bassline and just the right amount of tribal charm. Tip!

Review: Armon 'Aybee' Bazile is undoubtedly one of electronic music's most consistent performers. He's barely put a foot wrong since making his debut in 2004, and continues to deliver high-grade material on a regular basis. Predictably, there's plenty to get excited about on this 12", too. "Man Over Machine" is a winding, constantly building gem, with rising and falling, spaced out melody loops riding an off-kilter techno rhythm. On the flip, you'll find the deep space chord progressions, delay-laden electronics and deep tech-house grooves of "Build Them (Solstice Mix)", the intricate pianos solos and Soichi Terada style deep house vibes of "Legacy", and the off-kilter deep house/IDM fusion of "Melted Chains".

Review: Due for release in January, Dance 2017 will be Secretsundaze Music's first ever compilation. This first sampler 12" gives a taste of what's to come, showcasing three killer cuts destined for the CD and download versions. Fred P kicks things off, successfully combining a chunky, dexterous drum track with canny manipulation of one of deep house music's most iconic string samples (yep, the very same one Pepe Bradock used on "Deep Burnt" all those years ago). Flip for a dose of bumpin', drum-led deep house magic from the always on-point Nubian Mindz ("Testing Theories"), and a deliciously deep, acid-flecked collaboration between Secretsundaze co-founder James Priestley, and regular studio pal Marco Antonio Spaventi.

Review: Trindadian Deep was initially schooled by deep house legend Ron Trent, before casting out on his own. Native EP V is his second 12" of the year for regular home Neroli. As you might expect, it's full of musically rich deep house explorations that don't try too hard for attention. A-side "Native Rebel" is particularly beguiling, with stretched out organ lines tumbling over cosmic synth riffs and deep, layered, organic sounding percussion. On the flip you'll find the Larry Heard-meets-Kaidi Tatham lusciousness of "Native Bruk", followed by the fluttering synth solos, loose-but-dense percussion and killer chord progressions of "Native Uprising".

Review: World Building is the new label from Beautiful Swimmer Ari Goldman and it gets off to a veritable flyer with The Fatal Flaw In Disco from the master Mark Seven. Proprietor of Parkway and Parkwest Records, Seven is among the most highly respected of record dealers and DJs and a fine choice to kick off World Building. We've been massive fans of the Parkway tackle here at Juno HQ and hopefully this banging 12" will retrospectively see collectors and selectors dig back through the label. Some five tracks deep, The Fatal Flaw In Disco sees the Stockholm-based Seven continue to explore his love of classic US deep house with the sax-addled pump of "The Fatal Flaw In Disco (U-4-Ria)" a considered highlight. If you've seen the Swimmers at any festival jam this summer you should be familiar with the cuts on this 12" and expect to hear them in the dance a lot more as the year goes on. Big record.

Two Tens Madam (6:42)

Not A Thinkage Of Links (4:36)
Review: Freedom School's DJ Series of dancefloor-minded 12" singles has previously showcased material from Eric Lau Commissioner and Rick Wilhite. This time round, killer keys-man Kaidi Tatham is at the controls. The legendary West London producer begins in confident mood, lacing his usual jazz-funk keys over a rock-solid electronic bassline, fluttering synths and head-nodding hip-hop beats on "Two Tens Madam". The hazy, laid-back jazz-funk feel is amplified on "The Moons Falling", with Tatham delivering bouncy organ stabs, jazzy piano flourishes and winding synth lines. Arguably the strongest of the lot, though, is closer "Not A Thinkage Of Links", which sits somewhere between bass-heavy Afro-house, Idjut Boys style dub disco, and Kyoto Jazz Massive-esque nu-jazz.

Review: From Moods & Grooves to Sistrum, Brian Harden has served up more than enough soulful, synth-led house and techno in his time. It's just the kind of style that suits the mood on D3, and so the label has picked up his essential "Chicago To Detroit" jam and called upon a fine selection of remixers to rework the track. First up is Byron The Aquarius, who drops some expressive broken beat drums into the mix to spar with the illustrious melodic tones to great effect. Meanwhile the label boss Brian gets busy with a classic, straight-up adaptation on his "Chicago Sur Seine Mix" before Patrice Scott opts for an energised variation with poignant new Rhodes-esque keys floating on top.

Review: Steadily building up his profile within the realm of heads down techy house music, Lee Burton lands on Elephant Moon with an EP that fizzes with production flair while retaining a serious floor-minded focus. "15:30 (The Jam)" bounces along with the kind of slinky, shuffling energy you'd expect from an early Cynosure Record, while "12 Angry Apes" keeps the swing up while heading towards a more upbeat headspace. "Osmosis" is one of the standout jams on the record, managing perfect threads of piano and chord in the mix to make for a sharply honed club track. There are tougher moments to be enjoyed when Marshall takes over as Taelue, but still the emphasis is very much on soul-stirring machine beats and synth tones in a fine tradition of true deep house. Review: Here's a genuine surprise: a house 12" from Los Angeles' undisputed master of synth-boogie, Dam Funk. Of course, this isn't house in the traditional sense, and all three tracks still feature the Stones Throw regular's usual fluid synth lines, rich chords and bubbly synth basslines. Even so, with its cowbell-driven 4/4 beat pattern, hypnotic construction and dedication to low-end groove, "Break Out" is still a proper house track. The same could be said of the even more stylistically authentic "Your House", in which Dam Funk does his best to combine his own ear for melody with clear Larry Heard influences. The results are nothing less than superb.

Review: Axe On Trax's little sibling, the white-label spawn by the name of Axe Traxx, is starting to grow into a rather impressive little imprint thanks to releases from Sonderr and Italy's Die Roh. The third instalment is a collaborative affair from a series of emerging house deviants and, as per usual, this is is mightily limited and even a little bit tipped! Dusty house sensations are given off by Ruff&Stax's "Brando"; "James Brown" from Kid Mark is a stomping, chord-heavy analog belter; DJ Pegasuz and FTPup deliver a fast-paced, raw-as-hell house killer in the same style as Dance Mania 12"s from the late 90s, and "XX" by Fede Lng is simply a nasty piece of work in all senses of the phrase - dark, squelching, distorted, and just the right amount of funky. Soundhack - "What You Feel" (4:59)
Soundstore - "Relief" (5:52)
Review: YES. This is exactly what we need after the end of a long summer, and what has been a period of relatively lower releasing activity in the house and techno sphere. A new Soundstream bruiser to add to what is surely one of the most impressive catalogues around. The last one that was released a year or so ago was excellent, but this four-tracker is even better, bolder, and nastier. Moreover, you get four cuts from four different Soundstream aliases, so you know you're in for the score. "Aqua Dance" is an addictive disco slinger with that magic Soundstream sampling touch, but from "Track 440" onwards, things start to turn a little more off-kilter, and that tune itself is a fuzzy, distorted disco-house hybrid that perfectly encapsulates the Soundstudio alias. The same can be said for the Soundhack-approved "What You Feel", a wavy disco mutant that is of the same ilk as Pepe Bradock's material, while Soundstore's "Relief" is a more classic house spliff packed with banging drums and guided by a deep, sweltering bass. Essential.

"Odyss Dance" is a classic Scott joint, a deep and ethereal house experiment that instantly gives off the producer's signature feel of mystique, best described as a 'dubby haze'. "People Music" is a little brighter, a little warmer around the edges, thanks to an uplifting synth riding solo in the upper edges of the mix, and a funky bassline driving the engine beneath. There's also a 'bonus beats' version as a final slice of magic, where Scott adds a layer of tribalistic percussion to an already ritualistic drum pattern. Another Patrice Scott blinder.
