Sink Holes (4:07)
HELL ON EARTH (3:51)
Hit It Bubba (I Want My Dadda's Rekids!!!!) (5:42)
Party Marty (5:47)
Review: The Detroit badman always delivers the goods, but he'd recently focussed on his more house-centric style thanks to a series of sleek, soulful releases. This time, he's come out all guns blazing with this new four-part killer, led by the absolutely nutty groove that is "Sink Holes" - a proper slice of Omar S acid, delivered in fine style and with his inimitable rawness. "HELL ON EARTH" is a moodier, funkier house tip with a jazzy side, while the flipside's "Hit It Bubba (I Want My Dadda's Rekids!!!!)" is a fast, upbeat house bomb with a crazy little disco sample that floats amid the grainy bass drums. "Party Marty" is a no nonsense kind of lick, pouncing away with a steady, yet unmistakably Omar S-style percussion, and a heavy bass blow. This is one hell of a way to make an appearance this early in the year - highly recommended!!

Jamie 3:26 & Masalo - "Testify" (8:18)
Sameed - "Can't U" (4:43)
Sameed - "Dusty Jazz" (Late Night edit) (5:56)
Review: The latest missive from Sweden's fine Local Talk label is a multi-artist affair, with fine contributions from label regular Sameed, Chicago legend Jamie 3:26, and rising star Masalo. The latter two join forces on fabulous A-side "Testify", a low-slung, disco-tinged deep house bomb built around righteous rhythms, impassioned, gospel-influenced blues vocals, and killer Clavinet parts. On the flip, Sameed's first contribution is a riff on the same basic cut, utilizing the same samples but venturing further towards dirty, late night disco territory. He also provides a fine bonus in the shape of "Dusty Jazz", a sample-heavy jazz-house workout complete with wavering horns, rich bass and twinkling electric piano solos.

Bring Me Down (9:32)
Bring Me Down (Theo Parrish translation) (9:35)
Review: Here's something to get excited about: a cracking new cut from Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller, backed with a 'Sound Signature' translation from the equally revered Theo Parrish. Miller's version of "Bring Me Down", is something of a treat: a sparkling, starry deep house epic that's blessed with immaculate vocals from soul chanteuse Maurissa Rose. Parrish's translation is equally as stretched out and similarly enjoyable, but is far looser and dustier in feel, with warmer bass and beats that naturally tend towards the jazzier. It's naturally more in keeping with Parrish's work than Miller's, but retains enough of the latter's touches to be counted as a fine remix.

Accidental Meetings (6:28)
North Pole Cafe (6:12)
United Identities (8:21)
Distorted Fields (5:50)
Review: Chaos In The CBD launch their new label, In Dust We Trust. The imprint is a collaboration between the London-based Kiwi brothers (Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales) and their friend Jon Sable. This release, Accidental Meetings, inaugurates the new label. Starting off with the dusty, soulful and emotive title track which is reminiscent of classic Nick Holder with its sultry vocals atop, they're then into some emotive hi-tech soul on "North Pole Cafe". But they save the best for last with the great vibes of "United Identities" which channels that same life affirming groove as their recent track "Natural Taboo" on the Craigie Knowles compilation: only this one gets some serious Latin rhythms happening much like Joe Claussell circa "Je Ka Jo". Choice!

Just Wanna (6:15)
Movin' Thru (5:49)
Review: It's been a quiet year for Kai Alce, but finally the Atlanta house hero returns with a new pair of tracks that will surely satisfy any fans of his instinctive, expressive take on club-ready deep house. This latest drop comes on Sounds Of The City, which has also supported the likes of Walt J and Brian Harden. "Just Wanna" is a sure and steady workout peppered with woozy chords and a nagging vocal lick, but "Movin Thru" is surely the record's stand-out moment. With just the right balance between the edgy chords and the rounded bassline, it's a simple cocktail that plays to Alce's strengths perfectly.

#5 (5:45)
Movin' On (Awanto3 remix) (9:19)
DTO (7:03)
Review: Le Freund is a new Dutch imprint founded to release "warm, analogue music", and this is its debut release. It comes from fellow Amsterdam dweller Duke Hugh, whose 2016 debut album on Rhythm Section International was something of a dusty, jazz-flecked treat. He begins in typically confident fashion with the thrilling space boogie/broken beat fusion of "Movin On", before laying down some rich and colourful analogue deep house in the shape of "Poly Valence". On the flip you'll find the tactile, Chaos In The CBD style deep house jazziness of "DTO", and wonderfully loved-up remix of "Movin On" from Dutch scene veteran Awanto3.

Tolle (5:05)
Iigo (4:37)
Review: Singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jordan Rakei is a talented chap. Not content with pulling up trees under his given name, he's decided to debut a new alias via a killer new EP for Rhythm Section International. All four tracks are deliciously hazy, effortlessly soulful and hugely groovy, as Rakei deftly showcases his many talents. He begins with the Prince-tinged purple funk of "Change", before fusing clipped funk guitars, broken house beats and confident vocals on the superb "Like You Wanna". "Tolle" sees him slip further towards toasty, low-slung deep house territory, before he breaks up the beats and fires up the Rhodes on deliciously jazzy closer "Ligo".

Soothing (7:48)

Review: Highly respected Frenchman Alexandre Gouyette makes his debut on Berlin institution Cabinet Records with two perfectly contrasting grooves: "Soothing" naturally lives up to its name with soft focus dubby synth ripples and a classic drum arrangement while "Visions" rolls and punches like a Kenny Dope beats track. Broken, spacious, dubbed-out and physical, Brawther's reputation for rough finesse is so strong you can properly feel it.

Hi-Teck Blak (7:11)
Review: Kid Sublime is one of those house heads who knows just how to channel the true soulful spirit of black American music into his productions, and he's being doing it since the turn of the century. This latest outing for the gifted producer comes by way of Tomorrow Is Now Kid and it couldn't be more on-point. "The Underground Anthem" truly is anthemic with its catchy-as-hell key hook, stirring strings and switched-on vocal samples. "Duke's Jack" takes a more heads down club approach but still finds space for some vibes, "Jack 2 The Future" pushes the piano to the fore and ups the swing and then "Hi-Teck Blak" channels some broken beat flavours to devastating effect.

Urania (5:13)
Flotenmelodie (6:17)
Turkischer Tee (7:32)
Review: Live and direct from the slaughterhouse; Stabil Elite / BAR / The Kloom member Lucas Croon returns to Themes For Great Cities with his first full solo EP. Riddled with spacious kosmiche tones throughout, "Urania" sets the tone. A slo-mo sojourn on the trans Europe express, it succeeds in easing you into the EP and hitting you hard with rich synth textures. "Flotenmelodie" is a much more abstract affair with a delicious drone / wall of sound aesthetic that morphs and mutates and twists itself inside out for three minutes before lilting guitars completely change the atmosphere. Finally "Turkischer Tee" thrusts us back into reality with a heady dancefloor jam that's kinda reminiscent of Todd Terje's remix of Simon Baker's "Plastik" in its momentum but laced with heaps more musical elements.

Review: Firecracker sub label Unthank is back with Whodamammy aka Raffaele Arcella, an Italian DJ and producer based in Naples. He's related to the collective Early Sounds Recordings (with local hero Massimo Di Lena) and is one of the founders of Periodica Records. The music on offer on the Prima Industria EP is is a fusion between cosmic sounds, proto house, jazz funk and electronica. After the sublime intro that is "Iris Primum" get gets straight down to business on the oddball acid of "Indigo Auctoritas" and a couple of short experimental pieces which make for curious listening. But it's all about the B side in our opinion, where the intergalactic space funk of "Wise Glaciem" made a nice impression, as did the rather Hieroglyphic Being sounding analogue soul of "Neuter Gyrum".

Review: It's amazing to think that Jay Daniel is still only 25. Since making his debut five years ago, the producer has been responsible for some of the finest house music to emerge from Detroit in recent times. Interestingly, he's slightly modified his woozy and gently soul-flecked blueprint on this hotly anticipated debut album. For starters, many of the tracks - standouts "Paradise Valley" and "Knowledge of Selfie" included - feature live drums, played and recorded in his mother's basement. This rhythmic adjustment gives Broken Knowz a far looser and warmer feel than his previous work, in the process elevating his deliciously rich and musical deep house to a whole new level. In other words, it's an impressively assured and entertaining debut album.

Bjorn Torske - "Host" (DJ Sotofett Stoydubb) (11:08)
DJ Sotofett - "Version" (feat Jenz Wohlrab) (9:14)
Review: The latest missive from the productive Sex Tags Mania crew brings together Norway's past and present. The 12" is headed up by DJ Sotofett's 12-minute dub of "Host", a previously unheard cut from Norwegian scene founder Bjorn Torske. It boasts wonky but fluid synth bass, sharp disco guitar notes, swirling effects, a deliciously loose and off-kilter rhythm, and more space echo and tape delay than you can shake a stick at. Sotofett enlists the help of pianist Jenz Wohlrab on the flip, layering constantly-evolving motifs over the kind of bongo-riffic percussion track that sits somewhere between indigenous tribal sounds, and spaced-out, Sun Ra style jazz. It's a little reminiscent of some of his collaborations wth Gilb'r, which is no bad thing.

Review: Japan's TH Pressing imprint is hardly prolific, releasing just two 12" singles in its first three years of operation. That said, it rarely fails to impress, with last year's Wishes & Memories Volume 1 being particularly potent. Like its predecessor, this follow-up gathers together tracks from a quartet of producers. Life Recorder begins with the breezy and melodious, Soichi Terada style deep house bliss of "While She Dreams", before Ernie drops some quirky, dubbed-out dancefloor deepness in the shape of "Dynamic Workflow". Over on the flipside, Brad P explores deep space via the Motor City electronics, hypnotic rhythms and acid bass of "Grey Blue Passion", while Takuya Yamashita goes all Global Communication on the sparkling, early '90s ambient business of "Somewhere".

Awake (To The Ways Of The Word) (1:37)
Review: Moonrise Hill Material regular Ethyene is the latest producer to join the Kolour Ltd stable, bringing with him a fine selection of Clubs Dubs & Rubs. The four tracks on offer are effectively high quality club tools for deep house DJs who aren't afraid to drop disco jams in the pursuit of dancefloor magic. Opener "Truth About The Unseen" combines loose, swinging deep house beats with selected passages of a forgotten disco jam, while "Riding In Daddy's Car" adds an extended, filter-heavy breakdown to a similar discoid template. The tempo drops considerably on the groovy, saucer-eyed disco-house chug of "Time Won't Change", while "Strangers Must Be" turns an '80s soul treat into a dreamy deep house shuffler.

Goshawk lead the charge with the tough yet soulful "Mozambique (Dub Chord)", using some choice keys and vocal samples to create a warm mood over the top of the chunky drums. Review: London duo Payfone return to Golf Channel with two more stately ageless gems. "Justified" takes a similar tone to their previous floor-burner "Quarantine", all star-lit and subtly cosmic, but with added soul snippets and textures wrapping around the groove like tailored faux fur. "We Are Chains" builds even more fervour with serious spiritual muscle as a Romanthony-level vocal preaches gutsily over another brilliantly slow, steady and broadsword dub disco groove. This belated follow-up begins with something rather special: a fine Jorge Caiado 'Morning Dub' of lesser known Abacus and Chez Damier hook-up "Closer". While it boasts their usual chunky, groovy bottom-end, the mix also makes great use of a yearning, cyclical electronic melody. Elsewhere, James Duncan delivers the hazy deep house bump of "416 Zone (Dub Mix)", Jacksonville laces dreamy, drifting chords over a killer bassline and heavy percussion on "Twilight Industries", and Satore reaches for the cowbells and Gwen Guthrie vocal samples on the disco-influenced throb of "Keep On".

Serengeti Run (Natureboy Lost Track '94) (6:19)
Review: Bristolian exile DJ Nature - or, as he was known in the West Country for many years, Wild Bunch man DJ Milo - has previously proved adept at creating dusty, low-slung deep house for labels such as Golf Channel Recordings. "LF" sees him following a similar blueprint. It's available in two contrasting forms; "Mix 1" features a tasty mix of sleepy chords, sleazy vocal samples and swinging, straight-to-tape style deep house beats, while "Mix 2" is focused around a looped, late night motif and more metronomic percussion. On the flip, you'll find a genuine slice of history in the shape of "Serengeti Run". Recorded in 1994 during the Bristolian's time producing house as Nature Boy, it's deep, woozy, hazy, and undeniably beautiful in an understated way.

Vienna's Sam IRL is abck with more sultry deep house sounds on the Melting Memories EP. The Sampling As An Art imprint continues its ascension as one of the finest new labels in highly intelligent dancefloor sounds. The title track is testament to this, "Forward (Interlude)" goes for some dusty hip

Review: Few artists are quite as good as S3A at turning dusty, obscure samples into soulful deep house gold. Here, the French producer makes his first appearance on Quintessentials with four more sample-heavy dancefloor workouts. There's naturally plenty to get excited about, from the dirt-encrusted, disco-sampling deep house grooves of "Dick Jones Track" and warm, loved-up piano house vibes of "Feels Like Garage" (of the U.S variety, of course), to the brilliantly bombastic, hip-hop style quick-fix "Massive Horns (Interlude)". Arguably most impressive, though, is the hard-boiled, boogie-era disco-meets-21st century house bump of "Rush". It sounds like a guaranteed party-starting, peak-time smasher.
