Quilted Multiverse
Review: The latest release on Abstract Forms finds Swedish electro purist Ola Bergman return for a second offering in his ongoing series of Multiverse releases as Obergman, having inaugurated proceedings with Cyclic Multiverse back in March. Much like that seven track set, there is much for fans of minimal machine funk to savour on Quilted Multiverse, and Bergman uses the album format to really showcase his full production palette. So whilst opener "Resemblance" or "Supersymmetry" are classic jittering electro with subaqueous textures and rippling rhythms, Bergman also indulges his more bugged out side on "Alkaline", "Coma Cluster" and the rhythmically interesting "Gravitational Collapse".

Review: There's been much debate over the years about the effect of environment on artists, and particularly musicians. Perhaps we're reading too much into Signals on the Double, the first 12" from Norwegian producer Retape, but we can definitely hear the reflected beauty of his home city of Trondheim, a relatively sleeping place built around a wide fjord. There's certainly a picturesque feel to the glistening ambience of "Rotation", the woozy Scandolearic disco of "Moving Down", and the Behaviour-era Pet Shop Boys style melancholy of "Coir". The EP's crowning moments, though, are less obviously influenced by Retape's surroundings. "EMN" is a spiraling chunk of Reflex-style "braindance", while "Signals on the Double" surges from the speakers like the best Detroit techno.

Review: Having worked together since 2006 as a duo with a healthy interest in new wave and synth pop, Xeno And Oaklander make the leap from a regular run of releases on Wierd Records to the wider pastures of Ghostly International where their mildly gothic tones sit comfortably. The sound across all nine tracks hangs together with a distinctly Human League flavour, from the boy-girl interplay of the vocals to the cascading arpeggios, but it's the gutsy pop nous that hits home first and foremost. Whether it's the more brooding fare of previous single "Par Avion" or the uptempo throb of "Lastly", these are songs to unashamedly sing along to.

In The Mouth Of Symmetry
Review: Heinrich Dressel is the alias of Italian producer Valerio Lombardozzi, known for his work on labels like Mannequin, MinimalRome and now Frustrated Funk. His debut for the influential Dutch electro label sees him provide two electro tracks and two synth-heavy experimental excursions, first of which is the Goblin-esque "Vocal Intro". The fun begins with the title-track, a playful piece of snare snapping, kooky electro. "Dazzling Timbre" provides another soundtrack to an Italian horror movie never made with music that would fit a distorted dream sequence while "In The Mouth Of Symmetry" is exactly what you'd expect: frustrated funk.

Jamie Blanco - "Everything Once"
Kruton - "Square Cloud"
Fx Mchn - "Unkool"
Facade - "Times Ten"
Review: Within the space of two years and five releases, London Housing Trust has cemented its' reputation as one of Britain's most reliable deep house imprints. This sixth release is every bit as essential as it's predecessors, and finds Milo Smee returning to contribute under his lesser spotted Kruton alias. More commonly seen delivering thunderous acid techno as Bintus, Smee arguably provides one of the highlights of this 12" in the chugging, krautrock-influenced blast of modern day bleep-house by the name of "Square Cloud". Elsewhere, Jamie Blanco lays down some picturesque, soft-focus 808 electro, FX Machn gets all wonky and hypnotic and Facade takes us deep into dreamy, late night house territory on the pleasingly melodious "Times Ten".

Some Other Place
Waves Of Fear
The Way Out
Different Ways
Review: As the title suggests, Some Other Place Volume 2 is the second installment of a triptych of releases from The Exaltics for The Clone West Coast series. As with previous music from the Solar One boss, the four tracks here see The Exaltics look to both American and Dutch schools of electro but the results are nonetheless distinguished by his own unique signifiers. The title track sets the tone nicely as waves of sumptuous blurred noise ride a supple skeletal rhythm, whilst "Waves Of Fear" lives up to it's paranoid title with a marauding low end bass line the dominating element on a classic slab of darkside electro. "The Way Out" is perhaps the most conventional track here, with Witschakowski laying down an atmospheric but club ready 808 workout which is still a cut above thanks to the German's arrangement skills. Which leaves room for the slower, weirder and mushy excellence of "Different Ways".

Review: Bristol-based producer Marco Bernardi seems to be challenging Ed 'DMX Krew' Upton in the prolific stakes these days with no less than three 12"s surfacing in recent months (with at least two more due to drop in the coming weeks) Here he surfaces on the fledgling but already rather impressive Brokntoys, a London label that emerged in fine style last year with the Mode #7 12" from UK electro stalwart Pip Williams, complemented by the well judged presentation (we do love a printed insert here at Juno HQ). After coaxing some rare Scape One material out of Kurt Baggeley, this Emotional Wreck 12" from Bernardi represents another coup for Brokntoys. From the very off it seems like Bernardi is in the mood to unsettle as he draws from the most unhinged corners of his electro and techno palette. The superbly named "Catman's Going To Get You" is a particular highlight.

Review: The long running TRUST label overseen by Vienna's foremost electro advocate DJ Glow present the first 12" in a three part compilation series called TRUST XV. Featuring contributions from a glowing cast of TRUST artists, each edition of this series will come housed in a full colour printed sleeve courtesy of dextro.org and "a short science fiction story, chronicling the fate of an interstellar mining operation on 61 cygnus e." Part One set the bar pretty damn high with Clatterbox, VC-118A, Morphology's Matti Turunen and Lok44 all dropping exclusive cuts, with "Intersecting Planes" from UK legend Clatterbox a particularly mind bending contribution. With DJ Stingray, Dez Williams, The Exaltics and Scape One amongst those slated to contribute on parts two and three, TRUST XV looks to be very a collectable series for electro heads.

Review: Dark Entries present the debut album from Sumerian Fleet, the gothic EBM indebted side project of Dutch legends Alden Tyrell and Ingmar Pauli and vocalist Zarkoff. Collectively, Tyrell and Pauli have played a key role in shaping the Dutch electro and techno scenes since the mid '90s, with respective discographies that feature releases on Clone and its various subsidiaries, Viewlexx, Moustache Records and Murder Capital. Pauli and Tyrell's work together as Sumerian Fleet has been a more fleeting concern, with two 12"s on Clone West Coast and Creme Eclipse surfacing between 2010 and 2012. Given the tone of Sumerian Fleet's music - which references Fad Gadget, Front 242, Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy - the project is a perfect fit for Dark Entries, and a full album for the San Francisco-based label is most welcome. The nine-track Just Pressure features all new material that Sumerian Fleet recorded over the past year in Rotterdam and Den Haag with vocalist Zarkoff. Fans of Sumerian Fleet will know the album takes its title from the Sturm Bricht Los 12" highlight "Just Pressure" which is a Silent Servant favourite, and has been re-recorded for this debut LP.

Review: Though he describes himself as sound curator, Free-jay, lighting designer, and therapist, the Renaissance man known as Lord Tusk is perhaps best known for his work as a producer, and was first brought to attention via the debut release from the Levels label. At the time of release, the Natural Partnerships EP was officially daubed 'fairly indescribable' thanks to it's gleeful tempo shifting, though the mastery of hardware Tusk demonstrated was wholly auspicious. Having just made an appearance on Apron, Lord Tusk is now back on Jon Rust's label with Escape From Babylon and the four tracks will be ear candy for anyone who loves pounding drum machine rhythms. Be prepared to hear this beating down dancefloors for months to come!

The Ass In Bass
Review: Working under the Hadamard guise, Dutch artist Janko Bartelink has built up quite the collection of sleazy data soul with releases on Bunker, Transient Force and Last Known Trajectory that all combine icy electro rhythms with ghetto-guttered lyrics. The amusingly framed Ass In Bass marks Bartelink's debut proper for Solar One Music (he contributed to their SOM Compilation Vol 2 back in 2009) and presents a further development in his muscular approach to electro. From the techno-like insistency of "All I Think About" to the undulating analogue arpeggiated bass and vague subverted euphoric synths of "My Cool", Hadamard's message and heavily processed carnal urges are crisp, clear and ultimately crucial.
