EditChannel XXX
Review: **REPRESS** Anyone worth their salt when it comes to contemporary disco should be able to work out the individual behind this stellar one sided edit, and for those Too Damn Blind to the obvious, we suggest a term enlisted in disco night school will get you up to speed. Apparently a secret weapon among a few of the finest disco selectors in New York and beyond for sometime now, "Edit Channel XXX" is a sublime example of disco editing at its finest. Various passages of the horn happy source are teased out and introduced, phased in and phased and complemented by some deft additional production touches from JV - it's meant for one purpose and achieves this with an aplomb that far too many edit labels never look close to matching these days.

Hooked (Kon Nite Time remix)
Review: A second standard pressing of Kon's masterful Cerrone edit arrives following the the initial 'blink and you'll have to pay a hefty price on Discogs' gold edition and subsequent repress. Originally released back in 1981, "Hooked On You" featured an early guest spot from one of THE voices of disco in Jocelyn Brown, and Kon's edit of the track under his Sir Own name has been burning a hole in the internet via Soundcloud and YouTube since late 2010. The label calls it "one of the most talked about and sought after reworks in recent times" for a good reason! If you like this check Kon's new LP for BBE too!

Rayko - "Wait (Sunny Delight)"
Alkalino - "Give Me Your Love"
78 Edits - "Can't Have My Love"
The LEgendary 1979 Orchestra - "Burning (Oh Baby)"
Review: Straight up disco action right here on the first sampler in a new series, which arrives with driving 70s edits from four talented producers. First up, Rayko delivers "Wait (Sunny Delight)", an irresistibly hummable party tune for the summer months; this is followed by "Give Me You Love" by Alkalino, a more funk oriented affair with a charming vocal and a wonderful slice of percussion. 78 Edits do their thing on the B Side with "Can't Have My Love", giving us that classic early 80s sound and finally, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra re-work "Burning (Oh Baby)", taking a more experimental approach that bases itself on the early electro vibe. Big tunes.

Night Moves
Review: Having previously made his name as a purveyor of filter-heavy electrofunk re-edits for such labels as Disco Deviance, Tribute and Bedmo Disco, Aussie Rocco Raimundo has now set his sights on taking the step into original production. Here, he offers up an excellent EP of original - if sample-heavy - material for House of Disco. Like previous HOD outings, there's a reliance on touchy-feely '80s soul and electrofunk sounds, cut-up vocals and sumptuous deep house grooves. With plenty of added delay and his usual impeccable filters, there's much to enjoy, from the familiar synth-disco bump of "Keep On Keepin On", to the eyes-wide-shut gorgeousness of "Night Moves".

Smith & Mudd - "Hvala" (Version Idjut by The Idjut Boys)
Bison - "Travel"
Almunia - "Travel" (Felix Dickenson Passport Control mix)
Almunia - "L& G Pschedelic" (Wes Coats Holy Sa To Dub mix)
Review: Sun-soaked and smacked out disco abounds on the sampler for the new Claremont 56 compilation, celebrating five years of sultry Balearic business and unabashed funk. The Idjut Boys kick things off with their version of Smith & Hudd's "Hvala", laying gorgeous strings on top of a sweet bassline and a laconic, rolling beat. Bison are careful to keep the beat gently bobbing at the same tempo on "The Traveler", albeit with spooky, Nico-esque vocals over the top of it. Felix Dickenson's mix of Alumnia's "Travel" is a more forthright proposition, riding on a punchy electro bassline and letting the guitar licks feed more prominently into the mix. Alumnia's "L&G Psychedelic" also gets a reworking, this time by Wes Coats who dubs the track out marvellously with plenty of tape delay and wigged-out drums.

Review: The lack of titles and artist credits on this brand new Big Apple-related series is a touch confusing, but talk on the disco grapevine is that it's a new project from serial scalpel fiend Eric "Dr Dunks" Duncan. As you'd expect from a man with such esoteric tastes, these aren't your usual edits. The flipside, for example, extends and tinkers with a dubby, druggy slice of proggy Balearic oddness - all twinkling synths, ket-addled bottom end and starry riffs. The A-side is even odder - in a good way, mind - dubbing out a vibraphone-heavy chunk of early-80s dub disco strangeness. It's like Whatever We Want down the disco, which is no bad thing.

Oh Uibe (In Flagranti remix)
Fantasmi (Mock & Toof remix)
Pericoloso (Daniel Maloso remix)
Silver Mountains (Emperor Machine Special re-extended mix)
Review: You're spoilt for choice on this twelve inch from the evergreen Bear Funk hub which tasks disco luminaries Mock & Toof, In Flagranti, The Emperor Machine and Daniel Maloso with the opportunity to go at tracks from Golden Hands, last year's debut album from Clap Rules. That finely judged album from the Italian trio probably didn't get the exposure it deserved and it's a gem of contemporary analogue disco worth searching out - hopefully these remixes will further whet your intrigue. In Flagranti do what they do best, turning "Oh Uibe" into a heavily edited, grubby gem that still retains some of the original's glistening charm, whilst Mock N Toof get really quite freaky on their almost malfunctioning sounding revision of "Fantasmi". On the flip side, Comeme's Mexican correspondent Daniel Maloso transforms "Pericoloso" into one ever bending arpeggiated joy and The Emperor Machine slows things down on a typically tripped out and low slung mutation of "Silver Mountains".

Ra-Ako-St (extended edit - Todd Terje mix)
Eg-Ged-Osis (extended edit - Todd Terje mix)
Review: Lindstrom and Todd Terje are currently duking it out for title of "busiest Norse disco deity of 2012" and this latest release on Smalltown Supersound ensures the duo are level pegging as the year slips towards its close. Lindstrom is preparing to unleash his second LP of 2012 in the shape of the Terje assisted Smalhans - due out in November on Smalltown - and Terje extends two of the album's tracks as an exercise in high octane appetite whetting. Both "Ra-Ako-St" and "Ed-Ged-Osis" are typical Lindstrom; delightfully melodic, with an air of space disco pomposity, propelled forwards by the sort of dynamic, arpeggiated synthesizer lines that have become his trademark For the record, it's the rush-inducing "Ed-Ged-Osis" that impresses most - it's well Scandolearic, in case you wondered.

Simulation (original)
Simulation (Mano Le Tough remix)
Simulation (dub mix)
Review: While Permanent Vacation might seem like an odd place for silky voiced Irish singer Roisin Murphy to make an appearance on at first glance, there's little doubt over the suitability of artist and label after slipping on "Simulation". Her many fans everywhere will rejoice at a track every bit as infectious as Moloko in their mid 90s pomp, and it's thanks to some brilliant production work from Crooked Man aka late 80s Sheffield icon Richard Barratt - formerly part of Bleep techno icons Sweet Exorcist. Keen observers of 12" releases within the realm of house and disco will no doubt be familiar with recent Crooked Man twelves and "Simulation" makes for another consummate example of Barrat's self styled fraudulent disco - that knackered kick drum alone should hook many a fan, while Roisin is as at her breathy best. Added versions come from Mano Le Tough and Eric Kupper but can't touch the imperious original.

Jame 3:26 - "Can You Feel It"
Boogie Nite - "Earth To Mickey"
Boogie Nite - "Do Your Thang"
Boogie Nite - "Sexy Sexy Sexy"
Review: **Repress** The Lumberjacks in Hell imprint does a great job in sniffing out dancefloor-friendly re-edits and reworks that eschew the usual tried-and-tested formulas. This latest missive features a mixed bag of reliably groovesome oddities. There's the disco-jazz madness of Jamie 326's "Can You Feel It", and three wide-eyed bangers from the hitherto unknown Boogie Nite. Of these, the most obviously upbeat is the loopy funk/soul strut of "Do Your Thang" and James Brown-ish "Sexy Sexy Sexy". Most interesting of all, though is "Earth Calling Mickey", a Balearic disco weird-out that sits somewhere between oddball house and head-nodding disco.

How Do You Do? (Joe Goddard dub)
How Do You Do? (Todd Terje remix)
How Do You Do? (James Zabiela remix)
How Do You Do? (Mickey Moonlight remix)
How Do You Do? (Ossie remix)
Review: The lead single from Hot Chip's latest album gets the bumper double-pack remix treatment, with the original coming on strong in a Human League style synth-pop stormer. Joe Goddard's dub mix keeps the poppy tones, while Todd Terje keeps the romance high on his arpeggio-laden version. James Zabiela opts for a spacious tech house jam with a sprinkling of Chicago attitude over it, Mickey Moonlight flies in a light and breezy funk overdub, but it's left to Ossie to bring the real excitement as he chops into a delirious house cut heavy on the edit and even heavier on the funk.
