Review: Kraftwerk never bothered releasing a standard 'greatest hits' album. Instead, in 1991 they offered up The Mix, a set of brand-new digital recordings of some of their best-loved tracks. It received a lukewarm reception at the time, in part because it was marketed and reviewed as a remix album (which it isn't), but it's actually a thrill-a-minute romp that has formed the basis of their live shows ever since. It contains some fantastic re-arranged takes on such familiar favourites as 'Radioactivity', 'The Robots', 'Computer Love' and 'Autobahn', the latter of which is quite radically different (and, surprisingly, jazzier). This time round, it comes presented on ice-white vinyl and comes accompanied by a smart looking 20-page booklet.

It is once again limited to just 250 copies and once again packs a real electro punch across seven cuts. There is spooky tackle from T Error, cosmic adventure from MagikBitum and blistering synth textures from Digitizer on 'Radioactive Waves.' The pace picks up on Kitbuilders's high speed workout 'Bodies' before slowing to a predatory crawl on 'Marime' by DVS NME. Noise&Noise closes out with the wild melodic workout that is 'Eating Theists.'

Whatever music he puts out - be it his collabs with jazz great Greg Foat, his melodic deep house abstracts or this new electro tinged collection, it is gold. He recorded this one with some Moog and Oberheim gear in the Athens of the North studio and casts his net far and wide - there is crisp bit lo-fi, starry eyed electro like 'Shortwave' next to more 80s tinged pop-like nuggets "Rain & Shine' and cosmic explorations such as 'Date-Line'. Now he's landing in exactly the right spot to kick off 2022 alongside the good folk at EYA Records. Review: The second release on the fascinating Mooziken Analog Room label comes not from Detroit-based Iranian Salar Ansari, who delivered the imprint's debut release, but rather British acid house, techno and drum & bass pioneer A Guy Called Gerald. The Mancunian channels the raw, analogue-rich heaviness of his early work throughout the EP, which sees him skip between twisted, cunningly swung, acid-fired heaviness ('Old Skool'), pleasingly metallic blends of electro, clonk and house ('Sugoi'), trippy and hypnotic early morning mysticism (the Berlin-friendly haziness of 'Flash Fight') and chunky, funk-tinged tech-house (the 'is it heavyweight house or light-touch techno' of 'False Religion', where Gerald makes a rare appearance on the mic).

Review: Mattia Lapucci is a DJ and producer based in Florence, Italy who is founder of the Burbi and BurbiDub labels. His latest release comes courtesy of Barcelona's Twig imprint (a sub label of Seekers) titled Low Frequency Code, featuring four tracks that hark back to the seminal days of house and techno of decades past. Bleepy rave trips are catered for ('Low Rider'), early '90s intelligent UK techno is referenced on the evocative 'Sunday At Fashion Show' and then going ultra deep on the acid-laced closing cut 'Astralago'.

This is a third release of such treasures and it focusses on tunes from 1992-1999. It follows in the footsteps fo the first two EPs by highlighting the diversity and variety of sounds in Jeroen's production arsenal. There are rave bangers on the a-side filled with uplifting melodies and on the flip is IDM and electro fuelled by funk. Another superb EP for fans old and new.

Review: Curity is a Russian artist who brings his distinctive Eastern European sounds to this new EP on Partout. He kicks it off with 'Reflexivity' which pairs silky synths and well swung claps with Detroit techno sounds that Derrick May once dubbed hi-tek soul. 'Aerial' is another majestic machine workout with its own sense of heart and warmth from the finger clicks, bulbous bass and neon, wispy synths. 'Introcity' kees the future vibes alive with more serene synth work and classy techno grooves then 'Non Futuristic' rounds out in buoyant fashion.

Review: Frank De Groot has an accomplished history in gnarly electronics which reaches back to the 90s, and he's been recording with Steffi's Klakson label as Fastgraph for most of that time. Here the label are returning their attention to one of his most sought-after joints, the incredible Evasive Manoeuvres EP. This is the kind of electro to make you sit up and pay attention - it's uptemo, dark and edgy, with an atmosphere you could cut with a knife and a grubby, underground attitude perhaps only bested by the Bunker Records crew. Review: Detroit and Chicago influenced sounds by a pair of French producers here on a new banging crossover project called Motorbremsen. Marius Cyrilou (Cyril Martin) and Popodi Venturi (Olivier Azemar) serve up a wide variety of moods and grooves on the So Confused EP: the deep and emotive soul-funk of the title track is clearly indebted to the Three Chairs sound, while the minimal electro-funk of "Sanctuary" explores the same depths of legends Drexciya. Over on side B, you've got material that takes a more housey turn, with the late night mood music of "Riding Over The Darkness" followed by the spooky after hours minimalism of "Human Freaks". Tip!

Review: Two decades ago, Drexciya's Gerald Donald released his sole album as Japanese Telecom, Virtual Geisha, on the electroclash-flavoured International Deejay Gigolos label. Like much of Donald's work, which of course is inherently futuristic and otherworldly in tone, the set has aged well. It's full of punchy electro beats, bold Kraftwerkian melodies, fuzzy bass and starry electronics, offering a more stripped-back and occasionally funky take on the more layered and thematically complex Drexciya sound. Our picks of a very strong bunch include 'Mounting Yoko', the bubbly and picturesque Far East electro of 'Virtual Geisha She Interacts' and the cheery, lo-fi gorgeousness of 'Pagoda of Sin'.

Review: Thanks to a swathe of superb EPs over the last few years for the likes of 2020 Vision, Lunar Disko, Further Electronix, Altered Sense and Unknown to the Unknown, long-serving electro producer Cignol is enjoying something of a career renaissance. As a result, some of his earliest releases have become in-demand and hard-to-find - hence this reissue of his long-overlooked, but utterly brilliant, 2010 debut album, Switching For a Living. Offering an attractive mixture of sci-fi seeped, far-sighted tracks informed by 1990s IDM, deep electro, downtempo, ambient and acid, it's a coherent but varied affair that has well and trily lasted the test and time - thanks, in part, to Cignol's intention to make it a genuine "listening album". Recommended.

Review: Some six years after debuting via a deliciously angular and energetic EP from Jaquarius and Mono-Enzyme 307, the Acid Avengers imprint notches up release number 20. Like most of the label's EPs, it's a multi-artist affair. Sometime Balkan Vinyl and Bass Assault artist Acidulant handles side A, bouncing between rushing, piano-sporting 1992 hardcore revivalism ('Super Rave'), sub-heavy deep electro haziness ('Save The Last Rave') and throbbing, arpeggio driven trance/breakbeat techno fusion ('Hauz Trax'). Voiron, who last graced the label back in 2016, takes over on the flip. The Paris-based producer first fuses glistening, spacey melodies, twisted acid lines, post-electro beats and dirty bass on 'Bon Kick Voiron', before opting for deep acid house on 'Digital Voiron Workstation' and atmospheric, Orbital-meets-'90s tech-house on 'Sugar Voiron'.

Review: NOUN Records is a brand new sub-label of the much love Undersound Recordings, and it is all about serving up electronic music exclusively on 10" format. Caramel Chameleon opens up with a couple of tunes that he says are inspired by memories he has of childhood when he would walk on green hills. 'Sugary 2096 (Acid mix)' sure has a nostalgic feel, with its conversational synth leads and subtle acid lines washing over a crisp, punchy electro beat. O the flip is the more downbeat 'Apulian Feelings' with its rasping bassline and gentle, smeared chords bring a cosmic feel. A fine first EP.

Review: Byakku: Tai Braindance is a welcome collaboration between two retro-futurist imprints, '90s IDM revivalists Childhood Intelligence (an organization run from Berlin and Tokyo) and London-based bleep, acid, rave and hardcore specialists Tone Dropout. Featuring tracks from artists associated with both labels, it's a giddy and largely celebratory fusion of both labels' styles with an added dollop of interplanetary sci-fi futurism. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the shimmering deep space electro of E-Control's 'The Mind of Robots' and the deep, immersive, bittersweet electronica of Soft Pioneer's 'Dystopia', to the locked-in late-night hypnotism of Alphonse and Sween's hazy 'Downfall (Dub Version)', the bubbly bleep-and-breaks-goes-IDM pop of 'Existence' by Skyware Transmission vs XOTR, and the rave-igniting electro-bleep business that is Dawl's 'Time Phase'.
