Mannheim's Nick Curly returns to the Cecile imprint for a two track insight into how Between The Lines, his forthcoming debut album, is shaping up. Undeniably geared towards the floors, the somewhat straight up drum thuds and vocal samples that permeate the opening bars of "A Certain Someone" don't really prepare you for what is in reality a refreshing curveball of a track, with Curly bringing the atmosphere with fizzing textures, before proceedings veer in delightfully unhinged funk territory for the remainder of the A Side. "Outside In" takes a pleasantly off kilter approach too, all ramshackle percussive layers that barely keep in time with the relentless tribalistic drums and low set bass line.
