Female aka Peter Sutton has been a pillar of the UK techno scene since the mid 1990's. Of course, his successes have been helped by the work that he's done alongside his partner in crime on the Downwards label, Regis. While new material from Sutton has been scarce as of late, the Downwards label has done us the favour of reissuing 1999's Angel Plague, his second and last album to date. Unlike much of the bleepy, stripped-back gear that gets shifted these days, Angel Plague is full of wrath and poison, an eight-track bullet to the chest. The opener "No Sense/No Reason" is enough to give you a clear picture from the start, and the same sort of warped, machine-like drums are heard everywhere else across the LP. However, while many producers these days are hesitant to go that extra BPM faster, Female's work still sounds as daring as ever. The energy and charisma in this album is simply undeniable; you'd be crazy not to get it. Put down that minimal 12" and dop this on your speakers. WOOF.
