A four-track delight of an EP here from Roy Green and Protone, who delve into the subterranean cavities of deep, dark, rolling D&B and beyond. First up is "Contrivance" with its Lock Stock sample, sharp, terse snares and deep, murmuring bassline. Then it's on to "Liquid Coxinha", exploring a more liquid style with chirruping instrumentals, warm atmospheric sweeps and gently shuffling breaks. "Gone So Long" has a D Bridge meets Spectrasoul vibe with a touch of Robert Owen to the vocals - all clinking piano keys, soulful vox and a pervasive sense of yearning. "Rubik" marks a return to the deeper, techier sound with rumbling bass and sharp breaks. Recommended.
