Fans of jazz legend Thelonious Monk have long talked in hushed tones about the pianist's long-lost soundtrack to out of print 1960 French flick Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Thrillingly, the album is finally getting a release, some 58 years after Monk and his quartet of additional players gathered to record it in New York City. The original, unreleased soundtrack album - a superb mixture of softly-spun jazz mood-setters and fizzing up-tempo workouts - is featured on the first slab of wax, with the second boasting alternate takes, cuts from a hard-to-find period 7" single, and even an extended track charting the "making of" LP highlight "Light Blue". If you still need tempting, the album comes accompanied by a booklet containing extensive sleeve notes and rare, archive photographs.
