Having made his debut on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood imprint, Ben Westbeech has transferred to US house behemoth Strictly Rhythm for this long-promised sophomore. It's the dance music equivalent of a big-money transfer, something that's reflected in the quality of the Bristol-based songsmith's collaborators this time around. Motor City Drum Ensemble, Henrik Schwarz, Lovebirds, hometown heroes Redlight, Georg Levin, Chocolate Puma, Midland and Rasmus Faber all lend a hand, adding their own soul, jazz-funk, disco and house twists to Westbeech's infectious songs. Given the eclectic nature of the cast list, it's a pleasant surprise to find that the album holds together impressively, with Westbeech's brilliant vocals naturally providing the necessary sonic glue.
