"Why did I use Vienna to use as a metaphor for the rest of your life?" asks producer U on the cover of his much anticipated debut album. Vienna Orchestra doesn't offer any neat answers to that question, but it's nevertheless a sublime full-length. Eschewing the dancefloor-focused sound he's been exploring recently, the album sees him return to experimental pastures, joining the dots between glacial orchestral movements, spaced-out electronics, crackly vinyl samples, ambient ideology and IDM production methods. As a result, its' 15 tracks veer from the dark and unsettling, to the intensely picturesque, via the kind of post-soundtrack material that's near impossible to accurately define.
