Bournemouth's Ulterior Motive duo are just some of the leading faces of the contemporary Metalheadz sound. The duo are a perfect with Goldie's timeless label, and have precisely the right sort of formula to help the label undergo its constant evolution. The Fourth Wall is the album from 2014, remixed here a rather special selection of 'boneheads', as DJ Randall famously named d&b producers. The first is a version of "Keep It Moving" by the awesome Break, and it's a dive into the past, the remix instantly reminding us of the sorts of mutant sounds that Optical and Ed Rush used to conjure in their skunked-out Soho studio, while the VIP mix of "Inta National" is a more drum-heavy, jungle-leaning sort of roller. "Chapters" is touched up by Icicle, who takes Mayhem Lauren and Brotherman's vocals to a futuristic, break-heavy hip-hop territory, leaving Lenzman's remix of "Stay" to provide some much needed downtempo, recalling the sort of liquid d&b by the likes of Logistics and co.
