Review: With the likes of Batu drawing so much attention for his new bend on techno, how about a little appreciation for what Parris is doing. For an idea of what Parris has done with a 808 bass drum check out his Idle Hands debut then revert back to this 12"s woofing "Skeletal". With some light percussion added over the top, this track demands a proper dub soundsystem. It's a similar situation on "Bloom" too, only the bass has been turned down to allow for something a little more subtle... a little. Meanwhile "South East Of The Mountain" provides an alternative rhythm track with atmospheric marimbas and other African percussion giving the production as much an exotic flavour as it does an urban touch.

Review: Greek-Anglo-Turk hypnotic techno kings Cassegrain inaugurate their new imprint Arcing Seas; an anagram of their name: get it? It's business as usual from Alex Tsiridis and Huseyin Evirgren and the inauguration of the label follows several acclaimed releases on the likes of Prologue and Infrastructure NYC. The title track powers away with relentless low-tom drums giving it most of the groove beneath a ringing melody. "Skull Gun" is stripped but effective DJ tool with its loopy repetition just begging to blended with another trance inducing track while "Trappist" is the peak time weapon on offer; with its tape delayed melody spitting about the place in hysterical fashion.

  1. TRM (5:51)
  2. Curse Of The Medusa (7:19)
  3. Voodoo Soup (6:04)
  4. Snake Charmer (6:10)
Review: The title of Alexander 'Credit 00' Dorn's latest release does him something of a disservice. While there is no doubt that the Uncanny Valley boss knows how to craft intoxicating rhythms, there is a lot more to his capabilities. "TRM" sees snappy drums and a tracky rhythm underpin swooning deep house synths, while on "Curse of the Medusa", an unnamed woman claims 'I gave you my heart' over hypnotic 90s techno filters. "Voodoo Soup", with its insistent kettle drums and dubbed out percussion, pushes the release towards the tool-style functionality, but as the bleep-heavy "Snake Charmer" demonstrates, it is clear that there is far more to this German producer than linear dance floor rhythms.

  1. Extracting The Error (6:10)
  2. Morph Cycle (5:49)
  3. A Prayer For Jupiter (6:05)
  4. Fallen Spaces (6:31)
Review: Tom Dicicco has already built a quietly impressive discography - think releases on Off Minor, The Corner and his own Run Out Run - so it's little surprise to see him appearing on Delsin. The Shadows & Tears EP is typical of his textured, spacey, evocative techno sound, and contains a quartet of impressive outings. The British producer kicks things off with "Extracting The Error", a beautifully melancholic slab of tactile techno. "Morph Cycle" is a darker and more percussively intense affair, a stylistic trait continued on the warped electronics, hissing cymbals and distorted analogue drums of "A Prayer For Jupiter". Finally, he combines abstract electronics, fuzzy textures and rolling, intergalactic melodies on the impressive "Fallen Spaces".

  3. Neuronphase - "Dissapointed" (5:50)
  4. Superstar & Star - "Looking At The Star & Heavens" (Rhythm Doctor Youtube remould) (5:58)
Review: With Ajukaja, Maria Minerva and Hypnosaurus now something of recognised names thanks to Tallinn-based Porridge Bullet, the label reinstates its Bullet various artist series that helped the label find its footing in 2012. Sporting a new batch of emerging artists, this second edition is as fresh-faced as the first, and perhaps the wildcard of the four tracks is Trinidad's Neville Lawrence, aka Superstar & Star, whom Porridge Bullet apparently fell in love with after discovering his YouTube channel. S&S's cut "Looking At The Star & Heavens" makes the grade thanks to Tallinn-based London ex-pat DJ Rhythm Doctor cyphering the smoky vocals and air-pushing drums of the original into a 'YouTube Mould'. Ajukaja hooks up with Porridge Bullet solid Mart Avi for an eerily minimal and quiet "Symmerty Of Human Body Jimmy Winkle Waltz", while Neuronphase makes a second VA appearance (still no solo release) with a dusty slo-mo jam joining the dots between the tropes of Madteo and Lobster Theremin records. Meanwhile Dima Disk's is given A1 privileges with a lo-fi sweety of a tune - "Casino".

  2. Dancer
Review: ** Repress For The Hood Fans ** Emboldened by the reception to his overlooked and revisited Floorplan project, Mr Robert Hood turns to a track of a similar nature for the latest release in the M Plant Perpetual Masters series. The main slinky hook from Sister Sledge's "He's The Greatest Dancer" may have been subsequently bastardized by Mr Will Jiggy Smith, but Hood's minimal sampling of the same source on the 1991 track "The Greatest Dancer" must have sounded thrilling then. It still does today, remastered and is complemented on the flip by "Dancer", a new Hood jam that is as close to outright disco without losing that trademark Detroit grit as you can get.

Review: Joey Anderson, Madteo, Nuel, Innerspace Halflife and Even Tuell; all names to have graced Latency. The Mura Oka project from Latency co-founder Sidney Gerard and Louis Vial (Ezzaid) stood tall alongside those names, so do you expect any less from Australian producer Kane Ikin? No! Having just graced Type - John Twells & Stefan Lewandowski taste-making label - Ikin is a producer making music worth talking about, let's just call in undefinable. This Basalt Crush EP sways between the forlorn ambient and tribal haunt of Blackest Ever Black ("Echoic" and "Autophasic") to the scatter beats of Samurai Horo character Ena ("Grid"). With some heavy, slowed down and instrumental post-punk on "Gestalt" and to the luminous glow of "Street Flare", this record is another pearl from Latency.

Review: To date, cult 'working man's techno' label White Material has given Young Male, DJ Richard, and Galcher Lustwerk the chance to shine on their own 12" but they've long promised to provide a platform for further members of the collective to show what they are capable of. Having previously contributed one of the tracks on the fourth White Material release, Morgan Louis steps up to deliver his formal debut which features four productions and three B-side loops. While undeniably deep, the EP touches on a number of techno styles, from the melodious, atmospheric and metronomic title track, to the paranoid creepiness and rolling rhythms of "Donnoo". Arguably best of all, though, is "3Sex", a chunk of almost claustrophobic minimal techno full of barely audible voices and dusty textures.

  2. Density (4:53)
Review: Having previously delivered two out of the three releases on Timedance himself, boss man Batu has decided to rope in old pal Lurka for 12" number four. The Bristol-based bass head predictably hits the spot. "Beater" is as rhythmically interesting and sparsely produced as previous outings, with a handful of elements - drum machine hits, rubbery bass and occasional whispers of melody - being worked hard throughout. The result is a typically raw and moody dancefloor jacker. Flipside "Density" is even heavier and arguably more impressive, with Lurka cleverly layering bleeping melody lines and Motor City chords over a loose-limbed rhythm and booming sub-bass line.

Review: Ancient Monarchy welcomes back the darkly beats of Rhythmic Theory for a second time following the Bristol producer's Lucid State / Shores of Caladan 12" which opened the Berceuse Heroique sub-label's account last year. It's dropping around the same time as Parris' debut 12" on AM (don't miss that) with Rhythmic Theory still reeling from releases on Idle Hands and Blackest Ever Black's A14 imprint. This four-track EP serves up two syncopated techno cuts - "Travelling Without Moving" the hit - with "The Bends" simmering the bass in compensation for some extra reverb. The two beatless cuts veer into ambient dub techno territory with strokes of trance and rave thrown to not upset Echospace.

Review: Little is known about the mysterious Sexazoid, aside from Born Free's claim that they've seen the name "written around Stockholm". The mystery artist's debut shows much promise, beginning with the droning electronics, acid-inspired stabs, woozy chords and hissing percussion of "Up & Coming". On the flip, "Emo Slave" sounds like vintage Armando dragged through a hedge backwards, whilst "Witch Doktor"-era Armand Van Helden looks on in bemused amusement. There's a similar feel to the sparse-but-heavy "Last Train II U", which comes on like a drunken, lo-fi take on Cajmere's more acid-laden moments. In other words, it's cheap, ragged, TB-303 sleaziness for dusty basements and rickety lofts.

  4. Escape From The Poison River (Artefakt collage) (7:05)
Review: Since debuting on his Taapion Records imprint back in 2013, Shlomo has delivered a succession of quietly impressive, abstract techno EPs. The Delsin crew were clearly fans, as they've asked him to deliver a series of 12" singles under the In Absentia title. This first 'tome' opens with the icy techno throb of PVNV hook-up "In Absentia", before diving headfirst into darker waters via the rubbery electronics, hushed textures and relentless bottom-end thump of "Escape From The Void". There's a strangely grandiose feel to "Poison River", where dub techno style sonic textures ride a thunderous techno groove. A fine EP reaches its' conclusion with Artefakt's hustling, slow-burn remix of the same track.

Review: Over the last five years, Lee Gamble has surely solidified his name as top dog among the techno deviants, and each time one of his new releases drops onto our shelves ours ears prick up instantly. Having made a name for himself on PAN, it's now time to curate his own UIQ label, and "004" is exactly the sort of tune to catch the listener's attention: an unsteady techno beat that mangles it way through rough, distorted waters. In the same way, "For Infernomatics" challenges the status quo, and renders the techno experience a much more wide-eyed, wholesome experience that branches off into different territories. On the flip, "Kinematics" develops this 3D techno feel further thanks to the help of a sea of washed-out sonics and brittle beats, while "Cnull" heads towards the genreless, the only thing placing it anywhere near dance music being its jittery, improvisational kick-hi-hat combo. Excellent.

Review: Richard Fearless returns with Death In Vegas' sixth album 'Transmission'. Collaborating with artist and writer Sasha Grey, the project is a killer combination of Grey's lyrics with Fearless' signature sound, honed in his Metal Box studio. Said to have bonded over a shared love of Chris & Cosey and Throbbing Gristle, the duo really find their comfort zone on this LP. Alongside lead single 'You Disco I Freak', we particularly enjoyed the very Songs Of Love & Lust sounding "Consequences Of Love", the dark and tunnelling minimal techno of "Flak" and sexy EBM pulsations of "Sequential Analog Memory" .

Review: It's hard to imagine drum'n'bass-turned techno artist Marcus Kaye being a golf fan, but that's where he gets his Trevino stage name from, as well as the inspiration for his label. It's also surprising that he is releasing an album in two parts - Front and Back. Comprising nine tracks each, they will be the same length together as a golf course. Of course this would mean nothing if Kaye wasn't a boss producer. Front starts with the lush Detroit techno of " Black Cat" before switching into the buzzing "The Hop". "Defektor Dub" is a rolling, chord-heavy affair, while the insistent bass and fragile melodies of "La View" are as flawless as a perfectly manicured green. As far as house and techno goes, Front is a hole in one.

Review: All City out of Dublin launched Jheri Tracks earlier this year to give themselves a much welcomed platform to release dancefloor focused 12?s that artists like Onra, Herva and Anno Stamm may not necessarily be inclined to deliver. That said, this eight-track Jheri Tracks Volume 1 sampler does call on All City regular The Cyclist with the psychedelic rock themes of "Tech Tape Reels". The full compilation was bizarrely released as an 18 track mini-disc set featuring artists like Herron and Basic House, however for the vinyl edition Lumigraph is perhaps the most recognised name thanks to the distorted drums of "Pizzatalk". Evan Jones throws in some killer hand-played bongos on "My Days" while Bastien Goat goes demented on "Boytek" with a tripped-out sample that says 'this beat fucking sucks, let me try something else'.
