Summer Body (Charles Maurice dub version) (6:23)
Breakfast In Space (8:00)
Breakfast In Space (Charles Maurice dub version) (4:10)
Review: Should you be hankering after some suitably positive music right now - and let's face it, most of us are - then we'd recommend checking out this fine four-tracker from French jazz-funk combo Aldorande. There are two original cuts to choose from: the languid, laid-back and undeniably sunny breeziness of "Summer Body" - all female scat vocals, bustling jazz-funk bass, sweet pianos, two-step beats and boogie synths - and the bolder, more electronic fizz of "Breakfast In Space", which reminded us a little of vintage weather report. Charles Maurice delivers instrumental Dub versions of both, naturally beefing up the basslines and adding a little extra percussive pressure.

Mizik Bel (5:13)
Mizik Bel (Africaine 808 remix) (8:17)
Review: A while back, Africaine 808's DJ Nomad contacted Favorite Recordings' chief Pascal Rioux about a killer track he'd been given some years back - an obscure, previously CD-R only fusion of modern Gwo-ka and Zouk by Esnard Boisdur entitled "Mizik Bel". Rioux was excited by what he heard and agreed that the track should come out on vinyl, accompanied by a fresh rework by Nomad and Dirk Leyers as Africaine 808. Boisdur's original version (side A) is rhythmically dense but also cheery and life affirming, with celebratory chorus vocals and 80s zouk style synth lines subtly rising above a busy, all-action groove. Arguably even better is the sub-heavy Africaine 808 mix, which brilliantly re-imagines the track as a tasty chunk of tropical house/disco-zouk fusion.

Charms - "Givin' It Up" (3:40)
France Lise - "Pour Moi Ca Va" (3:28)
Review: Favorite Recordings has previously championed revered and little-known Francophile disco and boogie gems, mostly on dedicated compilations curated by dusty-fingered digger Charles Maurice. This '45' marks the launch of a new series along similar lines, with each release boasting two hard-to-find tracks accompanied by their original cover art (one on the front, the other on the back). On side A you'll find 'Give It Up' by Belgian band Charms, a warming and loved-up chunk of boogie/mid-80s soul brilliance stacked with luscious synth sounds, rubbery bass guitar and eyes-closed male lead vocals. Over on the reverse is France-Lise's 'Pour-moi ca ma', a simply superb slab of French language disco blessed with a killer bassline, funky guitar licks and some suitably heady horns. Tres bon!

Crystal - "Funky Biguine" (4:45)
JEKYS - "Looking For You" (4:25)
Review: Favourite Records' new reissues series come with a new concept; each classic track comes with an exclusive bit of artwork on each side of the 12" sleeve. This time, they compile two speedy funk tracks from Crystal and J.E.K.Y.S.; 'Funky Biguine' is an homage to the French ballroom style of the same name, from which it draws influence, while 'Looking For You' is a devotional dream from J.E.K.Y.S., a French band singing in English. Slick, quick, and affecting stuff.

AEIOU (6:36)
AEIOU (dub version) (6:47)
Review: Thanks to their superb collaborative album "Atemporal", many are now fully aware of the joint musical explorations of French band Cotonete and Brazilian singer Di Melo. That wasn't the case in early summer 2018 when their first single, "A.E.I.O.U", landed in stores. The record became a sleeper hit, was later remixed by Dimitri From Paris and is now given the re-press treatment. The original version (side A) is an inspired fusion of warm, breezy Brazilian disco and jaunty jazz-funk with one of the strongest, catchiest choruses we've heard in years. It's utterly ace all told, as is the more spacey and synth-laden B-side "Dub" mix. If you don't already own a copy, do yourself a favour and grab one of these.

A La French 1987-1992: The Balearic Sessions Part 1
Cecilia Noah - "Yuku Mon Ukulele" (Party mix) (7:06)
Alpha Blondy - "Ye Ye" (club Suite Movement 1 & 2) (10:31)
Gerard Blanc - "Dis Tout Bas Dis" (remix club) (7:35)
Princesse Erika - "Calomnie" (club mix) (8:41)
Review: A La French 1987-1992 is a new series from long time dance veteran Dimitri From Paris. It finds him digging deep into his vaults and returning with some of his earlier edit work, often with a Balearic feel over deep house drums and 80s disco vibes. The first in the three part series is a real smoother, with sexy and steamy sax lines on 'Yuku Mon Ukulele' bringing a late night feel. There is a slow motion party tune from Alpha Blondy that runs deep, Gerard Blanc then gets a little more upbeat but still with plenty of soulful and loved up vocal vibes and Princesse Erika closes with lush piano stabs and synth strings that light up your heart.

Atlantique - "Poussee Par Le Vent" (remix Maxi) (7:27)
Art Mengo - "Ou Trover Les Violons" (Mr Jazzy mix) (7:12)
Review:  The legendary disco master Dimitri From Paris made the lead a-side remix here back in 1992. His version of Claudia Philips's 'Donne Moi Du Feu' makes use of a sample from Carl Bean's 'I Was Born This Way' and is a gloriously sunny tune with New York house drums, finger clicks and s silky vocal as well as rap bass and rich organ sounds. Three other perfectly Balearic house tunes also make the cut with a super cool, jazz laced Philly mix of 'Soledad', slow and sun kissed vibes from Atlantique and more jazz stylings on the downtempo disco bliss of 'Ou Trover Les Violons.'

Review: The Balearic Sessions is a new series of releases from disco and house king Dimitri From Paris. Each one finds the legendary French artist dig into his vaults to turn out some of his most Balearic edits and remixes. This second instalment opens with a smoky Chicago house groove run through with steamy French vocals. Midi V's 'Belle Comme Isabelle' is brilliantly old school with more great French vocals sounding superbly libidinous and some fine key solos, then there's Latin deep house on 'Kaoma' and wonderfully native melodies on the Afro-tinged 'Kassav.'

I Love You (long version) (6:55)
I Love You (short version) (4:01)
Review: Many hardened disco diggers have long dreamed of finding a copy of Karriem's super-sweet 1979 single, "I Love You". It has a reputation for being one of the harder disco records to find, with copies of the original Pashlo Records release changing hands for serious sums online. Happily, Favorite Recordings has gone to the trouble of licensing it, offering this re-issue in replica artwork (complete with lyrics on the back sleeve). "I Love You" itself is near perfect, with Karriem's fine vocals and killer electric piano solos riding a loose disco groove full of clipped guitars and rich percussion. Like the original 12", this version boasts the superior extended mix, and a tighter edited version.

Le Premier Disco Sans Toi (dub version) (4:45)
Moonbeach Disco (dub version) (5:40)
Review: The Le Premier Disco Sans Toi EP by Andre Solomko unveils two new compositions with disco flavours. Solomko is backed again by a team of great musicians and vocalists, such as Mr Day and Lili Wagner on the title track, or Charlotta Kerbs on "Moonbeach Disco". And even if it is not the first by him, this disco journey fits perfectly with his jazz-funk style - plus a sense of melody. The EP really shows another facet of his many talents. Born in Ukraine in 1965, Andre Solomko is said to be 'a rich and engaging personality', but above all: a brilliant saxophonist, composer and engineer. After beginning a meteoric career in USSR, fate led him to Finland, where he started the label Vinyl Jam. This new single also results from a long and solid partnership, led by a shared and deep passion for analogue music and vintage grooves. His contagious passion cannot leave anyone indifferent. Moreover, a new album is also planned for 2018.

Review: On his previous albums for Favorite, Brazilian Lucas Arruda has proved adept at adapting a range of vintage sounds from his home country - most notably 1970s MPB, jazz-funk and jazz-fusion, as well as 1980s boogie - into tasty new songs. He's at it again on "Onda Nova", his first album for four years. This time round, he's added a little blue-eyed soul, AOR and West Coast jazz-rock flavour into the mix alongside his usual breezy blend of ear-catching Brazilian style (check, for example, the Michael McDonald-ish vibes of English language cut "What I'd Do For Love" and the guitar solo-laden smoothness of "Heaven's In Your Arms"). It's a blend that guarantees glassy-eyed and loved-up thrills throughout.

Review: Eagle eyed diggers might have spotted Camarao Orkestra's excellent Nacao Africa 12" single dropping last year on Favorite Recordings. Now the promise of that single has been followed up with this wonderful album - a scintillating blend of Latin jazz, funk, samba, Afrobeat and much more besides. The playing is second to none, not least the gorgeous Rhodes on "Dia De Verao", and the energy pivots nimbly across these seven tracks to make for a varied but cohesive listen. Uptempo "Guerreiro Yoruba" is an infectious stomper, while "Copacabana" captures a cool 70s funk vibe that wouldn't sound out of place on a Rufus & Chaka Khan record. With the title track bringing the perfect laid back party flavour too, there's a lot to savour on this album, not least while the sun is shining.

Review: This time last year, French combo Cotonete joined forces with Brazilian singer Di Melo to deliver what became one of the sleeper hits of last summer - the Latin disco/jazz-funk fusion of "A.E.I.O.U.". Here they continue their partnership with a first collaborative full length. It's a quietly impressive outing, with Di Melo's distinctive vocals rising above cuts that variously doff a cap to sultry Brazilian disco-funk, Azymuth-esque jazz-funk, soundtrack-friendly cinematic soundscapes, Astrud Gilberto style sweetness and humid salsa-funk (standout "Kilario (2019 Version)". It's a warm, loose and hazy set that feels authentically South American despite its Parisian roots.

Review: Bruno Hovart, Favorite Recordings' man of many talents, is at it again here. He's the man at the controls on this debut album from Pat Kalla, a French vocalist of Cameroonian heritage who has previously contributed to Hovart's Voilaaa records. Backed by Lyon band Le Super Mojo and with Hovart conjuring up his authentic '70s style production, Kalla lays down a string of superb songs that variously touch on Afro-disco, soul, Highlife, Juju, accordion-fired Cameroonian dance music of old and the kind of bright-eyed and bushy-tailed tropical fusion so popular in former French colonies in the Caribbean. It's a wonderfully joyous and breezy set, and certainly worthy of your attention.

Review: Last year, French record collector Charles Maurice put together AOR Global Sounds, a compilation of forgotten tracks from around the World, by artists influenced by the hazy West Coast style of Steely Dan. Here, he unleashes a follow-up, once again delving deep into the archives for inspiration. There's naturally much to admire, from the music box-heavy blue-eyed soul of Greg Yoder, and sax-laden stoner jazz-funk of O Ji Ji, to the synth-heavy disco-funk shuffle of Carol Ray Band's brilliant "Quelques Mots Gentils", and the Balkan AOR disco warmth of Bobana Petrovica. Look to the heavens, hold a loved one close and get slow-dancing.

Review: For those intrigued by the distinctively Gallic but authentically American-sounding world of French disco-boogie, Charles Maurice's ongoing compilation series should be essential listening. Here he serves up a third instalment that's every bit as good as its acclaimed predecessors. Highlights naturally come thick and fast throughout, from the mid-80s dreaminess of Maya's undeniably Balearic "Lait De Coco (Dub)" and the Brenda Taylor-ish bounce of Judy Carter's brilliant "Listen to the Music", to the Leroy Burgess style piano stabs and Patrick Adams-ish disco production of Caramel's "L'Amour Toujours L'Amour". Oh, and the late night radio warmth of NST Cophies' "Segregation", a sweet, undulating workout that will no doubt find favour with Balearic selectors.

Review: Pascal Rioux's Favorite Recordings hasn't put out a dud record since its inception back in 2006 and, along with introducing us to artists like Onra, the imprint is surely one of the most complete sources of disco and nu-disco available on the market. Their most recent series, AOR Global Sounds, have all the makings of future classics, and this is especially true given the fact that all of its tunes have been lost in the depths of time and greedy Discogs sellers. The third chapter in the series features tunes from between 1976 and 1985, carefully curated by Charles Maurice with the aim of showcasing various disco artists from around the world that have been influenced by the inimitable 'Westcoast' boogie sound. Make no mistake, these tunes are all rare-as-hens-teeth, and you're unlikely to find them pressed up on wax anywhere else. Although each tune features a different artist, from Stratus through to Funky Team or even Brazil's Willy Santana, this is very much an LA kinda thang. An essential comp for anyone serious about their boogie joints...

That means a greater emphasis on synthesizers, dusty drum machines and the kind of sparkling melodies that would once have drifted from daytime radio at an alarming rate. There's much to enjoy throughout, from the dewy-eyed synth-soul of Arlana's "When You Call My Name" and the breezy boogie of Omega Sunrise's "Too Hip", to the sparse Balearic bliss of Isabelle Mayereau's "Orange Bleue", the flute-laden easy listening hum of Fernando Toussaint, the sax-happy '80s sleaze of Special Occasion's brilliant "Flyin' To Santa Barbara" and the jaunty Latino jazz-funk of "Mellow Out" by Pacific Dreams.

Review: During its late '70s and early '80s heyday, France's disco-boogie scene tended towards the eccentric. Yet despite the camp, tongue-in-cheek feel adopted by many French bands and producers, much of the music was of an impressively high standard. That much is clear from Charles Maurice's second French Disco Boogie Sounds compilation. Packed full of slick, synthesizer-driven material and punchy, horn-heavy disco-funk thrillers (see the Teena Marie style "Movin" by Jackie Esam), it's a fine collection of Gallic dancefloor treats. You're unlikely to find a better example of jazz-funk positivity than Black Bells Group's "Talk Me Mam's", while Messan's "Keep Cool" is a lesson in thrusting, up-tempo disco sweatiness.

Review: Fresh from curating Favorite's Disco Boogie collection, Maurice returns to flex his crate surfing skills once again. This time: Album Oriented Rock. A style usually associated with US and UK acts such as Boston, Journey, Fleetwood Mac et al, Maurice reminds us it was a worldwide phenomenon that drew techniques and ideas from across the board. Here Maurice serves up long lost specials from around the world such as slinky, swooning disco-edged delights from Quebec's Diane Tell, sunkissed horn-heaven from Brazil's Juniour Mendes, chunky p-funk bass gems from Poland's Ulla and key-laden harmonic evangelism from Hawaii's Nohelani. AOR truly knew no barriers or boundaries, this is a fantastically curated collection.

Review: Favourite Recordings is proud to present Onra's new project - "Chinoiseries". He started it in August 2006, freshly returned from a trip to Vietnam, the land of his grandparents. A vinyl junkie at heart, he really couldn't come back to France without bringing back some wax. After hours spent riding on a motorbike through the streets of Saigon, a taxi finally helped him find some Asian records - he almost felt like an explorer discovering a forgotten treasure. This release really reflects his experiences and discoveries there.

Review: Having previously tried his hand at revivalist disco, jazz-funk and Afro-funk, it was probably only a matter of time before Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart tried his hand at Jorge Ben style samba-pop. Naturaza sees him joining forces with Ipanema-born musician and vocalist Jonathan Da Silva under the Jaoa Selva pseudonym. Musically, the album sounds like it could have been recorded in Brazil in the late '60s or early '70s, such is the fuzzy authenticity of the duo's production, instrumentation and song-writing skills. It's packed with summery, feel-good gems, the majority of which boast the distinctive shuffle of vintage samba and the jaunty musicality of early Azymuth.

Review: Favorite Recordings' superb Disco Boogie Sounds series continues. Following Waxist's recent exploration of French productions from the period, they've decided to drop a second collection of high-grade Brazilian material. Renowned crate-digger Charles Maurice has done a terrific job of gathering together dusty, obscure cuts that perfectly encapsulate Brazilian musicians' sun-kissed, soulful approach to disco and boogie. Highlights are naturally plentiful, and include the starry, jazz-funk tinged warmth of Christina Camargo's "Minas Do Rei Salomao", the Chic style brilliance of Almir Ricardi's "To Parado Na Tua", and the cosmic, horn-heavy leftfield disco thrills of Kaito's "Cara Feia".

Cyrill - "Night Ghetto"
Aries - "Braziliana"
Review: As he has done three times before, Gallic crate digger Charles Maurice has dipped into his vast record collection and offered up a killer selection of French disco-boogie sounds. The 13 assembled tracks are mostly obscure and uniformly superb, making picking individual highlights an infuriatingly tricky task. Our favourites change daily, but we're currently enjoying the tropical disco brilliance of Dwight Druick's cover of "Georgy Peorgy (Disco Version)", the synth-sporting electrofunk cheeriness of Serge Delisle's "Germaine (Remix)", the thrusting P-funk hustle of Acayouman's "Funk Around" and the near Balearic warmth of "Braziliana" by Aries. As the old expression (sort of) goes, Maurice has once again delivered all killer and no filler.

Renato Anselmi - "Quiet Fire"
Pedro Ruy-Blas - "Despertar"
Majoie Hajary - "Prologue"
Review: Favorite Recordings founder Charles Maurice - initially better-known by his production alias Pascal Rioux - has long been regarded as a dusty-fingered crate digger, so his new compilation series, Fusion Global Sounds, is hotly anticipated. He says it will be an outlet for jazz-funk and fusion tracks of the 1970s and early '80s, mostly made by artists in different parts of the world whose fame never spread further than their own local scenes. You'll find numerous highlights on the series' debut, from the breezy, morning-fresh loveliness of Renato Anselmi's 'Hello Mr Acuvis' and the sun-soaked, afternoon shuffle of The 1960 Band's 'Keep That Same Old Feeling', to the dream pop-influenced sparkle of Otoshakers' 'Simpere Tu' and the righteous dancefloor hedonism of Sundance's 'Buster'.

Review: Despite boasting a discography packed to the rafters with successful forays into various vintage dancefloor styles, some were still surprised at the brilliance of his first Voilaaa album, On Te L'avait Dit. This follow-up is equally as impressive, and features 13 more trips into classic Afro-funk and tropical disco territory. With addictive Clavinet lines, punchy horns, heavy live percussion and Afrobeat bass to the fore, Hovart and his many collaborators - including a number of French vocalists with African heritage - variously pay tribute to a wealth of late '70s and early '80s dancefloor fusion sounds. The album includes all manner of club-ready workouts, including the righteous "Problems", disco-tastic "Kemtane" and sweaty, high octane "Mbele".

Review: Having previously impressed with their Brazilian and French themed Disco Boogie Sounds compilations, Favorite turn their attention to the Caribbean. This time, the man at the controls is acclaimed crate digger Julien "Waxist" Minarro. Predictably, he does a fine job gathering together eight suitably obscure Caribbean disco, boogie and disco-funk killers. Highlights come thick and fast, from the winding synthesizer lines, swinging disco-funk grooves and intergalactic sound effects of Musicism's "Bermuda Triangle", to the Clavinet-laden shuffle of Eddie & The Movement's "Macho Man", and the hard-wired reggae-boogie business of Barry Bryson's "Going To The Party".
