Bounce Bounce (Love mix) (3:42)

As A Sign (3:40)
Classic (Beaucoup) Trop Classic (radio dub mix) (1:42)
Review: On the Love Affair EP, Geneva-based producers Androo & Bony Fly have composed six tracks that strike the balance between sound experimentation and dancefloor orientation. The results of their research stemmed from a shared passion for dub, dancehall and its infinite variations, combined with a particular attention to subtle and harmonious sound textures. From the glacial and cavernous delay exercises so gloriously displayed on 'Xoxo Dub', to the deeply meditative tribal rhythms of 'Dancehall Science' (interlude mix) to the off-kilter club bounce of 'As A Sign" and ending with the lo-fi riddims of 'Classic (Beaucoup) Trop Classic' (radio dub mix). A solid effort.

Horsebeach - "June" (3:26)
Andreas & Osca - "Looking Back" (5:23)
Gaussian Curve - "Impossible Island" (7:23)
Review: One of Denmark's key figures in electronic music and club culture since the 80s, Bager's been whittling the cosmic stick before many of us were out of short trousers. His collections and connections allow him to create and curate some seriously distinctive and unique mixes and collections. Case in point: his recent Sunset Sessions mix. Far too good to just live online, he's created a series of highly limited 12"s featuring numerous mix highlights. Part one includes the Mr Fingers style soul of Bell Tower's Pet Shop Boys tribute, the Gainsbourg-esque whispers of Mathieu Boogaerts and the deep dream samba of Bongo Ent. If you've heard the mix, you'll already know how beautiful these tracks are. Grab them while they're hot.

The Kenneth Bager Experience - "Follow The Beat" (Enzo Elia Afro Neukolln edit)
E-The-Hot & Fede B - "Reason & Logic"
Mr Marvin - "Entity" (Fitzarraldo_Extasy Of Love)
Somerville & Wilson - "Melt"
Review: Hell Yeah call up a host of well known disco, downtempo and Balearic names for this special four-track 12". First up is Enzo Elia's extended synth-heavy twist on "Follow The Beat". A true star-gazer, it's the ultimate elevator for any floor lost deep in the dance. Next up, "Reason & Logic", a smoky slice of modern jazz soul laced with dubby bass and a strange distorted guitar lead buried deep in the background. "Entity" flips the deep house switch with lazy keys, big airy pads and an infectious vocal loop. Somerville & Wilson complete the set with an Italo-flavoured Balearic gem; all mild acid and 80s synth textures, it's ultimately timeless. Mercifully, there's not a trace of gabba in sight.

Goddess Of A New Dawn (Cosmic Arts Harmony version) (6:12)
Review: Joe Claussell doing what Joe Claussell does best... Smashing the spiritual dickens out of us with unique fusions. "Aye Ye" is the dancefloor-focussed spell, all urgent and heavily layered with loopy insistency, powerful harmonies and roaring horns. Both versions of "Goddess Of A New Dawn" take off where the 2009 versions left us; at home on the savanna, breathing the air of our ancestors, soothed by warm harmonies, glistening instrumentation and a powerful sense of positivity. Don't sleep on Sacred.

Review: Steve Spacek continues to surge towards the very forefront of soulful electronica with this super-limited hand-stamped 12" under the new Beat Spacek guise. Blessed with his trademark dreamy falsetto, driven by sweet stumbling beats and coated in enveloping warm bass, it's already been a big hit with the likes of Mark Pritchard, Gilles Peterson and Benji B. With the promise of a whole album's worth of material, Steve Spacek's new project has plenty to get us excited about. And it starts here.

Indica (Pye Corner Audio remix - GLOK re-edit) (6:32)
Review: RECOMMENDED
Ride guitarist and singer Andy Bell has been busy in recent times, to put it mildly, as plans to release three EPs and an album between April and June 2021 prove. All set to be put out under the series title 'Ever Decreasing Circles', The Indica Gallery EP is the first in that set, and suggests we're in for a very, very interesting time when the next instalments follow.

The release comprises five remixes of tracks from Bell's 2020 solo outing, The View From Halfway Down, with reworkings completed by Martin Jenkins' Pye Corner Audio project, and the sixth piece here coming in the form of Bell's own edit of a PCA remix of his work, here credited to his GLOK alias. Name-dropping done, the record is a dense electronic trip into psychedelic cosmic disco slo-mo territories, dream-like ambient beauty and loose, baggy-trousered, nostalgic elec-indie fare.

Review: Nicholas Benedek has appeared previously on Peoples Potential Unlimited and Leaving Records and collaborates with L.A. Club Resource main man Delroy Edwards in Rx. This time it's for Arcane with the Coolin' EP. Starting out with the slow boogie jam "Voices", the title track goes for some 80's pop inspired groove while "Afterglo" is some sublime vintage Balearica to die for. On the flip there's the sexy and smooth "Ryukyo" which is like 80's R&B while "Angelus Vista" is a dreamy instrumental piece that sounds like something from the soundtrack to Miami Vice or To Live And Die In L.A. Highly recommended for fans of Gerd Janson and Fabrizio Mammarella's Black Spuma project or Max Essa.

Review: Rebirth kicks off its 2024 with a remix EP that serves as "a tribute to the Brescian music scene in its many facets and declinations." The full original project is a complete 12-track album that brings together many different sounds, scenes and generations, with the best bits now assembled on this new 12". The revered deep house master Fred P opens up with some texture spiritual synth depths, K-Lone brings some nice house swing to his version of 'Paline' and edit maestro Rahsaan also keeps it paired back and late night on his soulful take on 'Scent Of An Old Life'. A great reimagining of some moving musical adventures, then.

Tabu (Ruf Dugs extended Caribbean dub) (9:55)
Review: If you'd danced under the stars at Amnesia in Ibiza in the summer of 1990, there's a fair chance you would have heard Bianca Binky's 'Tabu', which remains a contender for the title 'most Balearic house record ever made'. That's certainly what NuNorthern Soul boss Phil Cooper thinks, because he went to great lengths to do this fully remastered reissue. Wisely, he's chosen to present both the original mix and the acid bass-propelled 'House Mix' on side A, with a brand-new extended edit of the sought-after 'Caribbean Dub' on side B. Created by his pal Ruf Dug, this ten-minute re-dub builds brilliantly, showcases the best elements of the track (the bassline, pianos, beats and synthesizer melodies) while adding trippy effects in all the right places.

Review: With over 50 years of experience dating way back to the early 70s with the progressive outfit Zebra, Joan has left quite a discography that is still being discovered and enjoyed. This EP - Joan Bibloni's second appearance on the label in total - features three versions of 'Badia Onirica', two of them being language versions and then the instrumental. Overall, the song is a track fitting for the Cafe Del Mar sound - a mix of folk, electronica, house with a Latin and folk influence and versions in Spanish and Catalan. An EP for watching the sunsets, dreaming on the beach and remembering life's great time with friends and family. NuNorthernSoul continues to honor the chill out legacy.

Review: This neat slice of mashup-Balearic from BJ Smith is a clever exercise in sample combination. First released in 2013 but reissued again here, we hear two iconic hip-hop tracks - Mos Def's 'Umi Says' and The Pharcyde's 'Runnin' - both laid to serene, lackadaisical Balearic backings. Thus two sunrise classics were born, complementing a very particular kind of rave.

Review: Dutch DJ and producer Pete Blaker has been doing some sterling work with his deeply devotional edits, making exclusive dubplates for DJ Harvey, tributes to Andrew Weatherall and generally demonstrating his extensive knowledge of the Balearic groove. He's next on the Balearic Blah Blah series with another four of his razor sharp chop-ups, dropping pointed references like 'Grace' and 'Slave & Jones' to give you a strong clue as to the wares inside. If you take your spicy edits seriously, Mr. Blaker is the guy you can trust to cut the mustard.

Let's Funk Tonight (Faze Action dub) (5:43)
Review: Blue Feather were a truly blue-eyed funk outfit from the Netherlands who had a prolific run in the 80s with two albums and a string of club singles to their name. "Let's Funk Tonight" was surely one of their bigger hits, and it sounds resplendent with a fresh master and the full extended version spread out across the A side here. Offering something new for the modern market, Best call upon Faze Action to flesh out this reissue with a killer dub of the track that treads softly but funks deep, just like a good dub should.

Shadows From Nowhere (Danilo Braca ReVision) (9:04)
Review: In the previous reissues we talked so much about this fantastic piece and "Marie", a very cinematic and supportive song, that now it is appropriate to dwell on the re-visited version of Danilo Braca that extends beautifully on the AA side of this new remastered reprint. Danilo who lives in the big apple often frequents Ibiza, perhaps also for this he has been able to exalt the most rhythmic elements of "Shadows from Nowhere", putting the beautiful falsetto beats to excessive movements, just like the waves that wash themselves on the sandy beaches of the White Island. His teacher Mario Gentili from Layer Bows added a beautiful arrangement for the strings and his Italian-New York collaborator Alvise Marino spread some fragments of guitar powder on top. That's it. 9 minutes of pure bliss, but also of catchy rhythm!

Review: Best Records present another deep cover jam Balearic diggers will rejoice at being able to lay their hands on. Blue Night was the brainchild of Peter Miconi, who created "Turn Me Loose" in 1983. All the elements are present here, from the aching blue-eyed soul vocals to rich guitar solos and an irrepressible funk bedded down in the groove, here stretching out for a full 14 minutes of pure sunkissed bliss. On the flip, SIRS takes a careful run at the original that simply reframes the elements with a more pronounced rhythm section - this is someone who knows exactly what the track needs and declines to change anything for the sake of it. Review: Kulture Galerie has got off to a superb start with a release that got the attention of big names such as Laurent Garnier, Midland and Vladimir Ivkovic. The pressure is on, in that case, to follow that up with a second release that makes just as much impact and the label passes the test with flying colours with a various artists' collection featuring some big names. Chief amongst them are Detroit don John Beltran with his scintillating hi-tek soul workout 'Canarias', and Bohm with the densely woven synth layers and dusty drum programming over the gorgeous 'Tactical Options!' Add in the more hard edge drums of 'Metropolitan Soul Museum's 'Negative Mouth', the melodic elegance of 'Bankastraat' and the acid madness of Tramic's 'Lanterns' and you have a vital 12".

Avanti - "Bright Mezcal" (4:35)
Review: If you're going to launch a new re-edit series, it's probably wise to get some big hitters on board. That's certainly what the people behind Theme From Kaffe have done for their debut offering. Italian heavyweights Bottin lead the way with "Ora La So", a lo-slung, Clavinet-heavy chunk of dirty Balearica blessed with sleazy, whispered vocals. Sleazy McQueen continues the eccentric theme with the chugging reggae-disco bounce of "Back To Hell", before Albion ups the tempo on the dusty, vocoder-laden wonky disco chug of "Experimento". An excellent EP concludes with the sprawling soundtrack disco of Ivory Boy's "Mare" and "Bright Mezcal" by Avanti, a curiously bumpin chunk of dub disco weirdness blessed with alien synths and a brilliantly rubbery bassline.

Review: Italian Danilo Braca offers up a superbly summery deep hose single here that is alive with bird calls and beautiful ambiance. There are hooky Balearic guitar riffs stitched into the smooth, shuffling, dusty groove. Breaking waves and seductive sax motifs add further color to the most serene and seductive sounds. After that 12-minute-plus epic on the A-side comes the flip side DJ Spinna Journey mix. It has fleshier drums, and muted acid lines but just as much of an escapist beauty feel. Two classics here that will fit into any open-air set with style.

Review: There are no prizes for guessing what the mission of The Sound Of New York City is. Next up to represent the Big Apple is Danilo Braca with a tune that is dark, steamy, intense and tribal. It is house music but with freeform rhythms and outsider energy. There is doom in the swirling chords and vulnerability in the lingering trumpet notes. It sounds like little else. After a short Bassapella, deep house mainstay Ron Trent serves up one of his long and winding remixes and as ever flips the track into a multi-layered spiritual excursion.

Naturally, the Nottingham trio has pulled out all the stops to make sure that the release is as memorable as possible. H does all that and more on this super laidback and heartfelt dub for the Japanese label Vortex. 'Tracks of Love' is the sound of a lazy afternoon walk in the park with a new love, without a care in the world and hearts in your eyes. The EP is pitched as being sited 'somewhere between the dancefloor and the living room', showcasing an attractive fusion of electronic and acoustic instrumentation as well as Leao's Brazilian vocals. On side A the pair smother a warming, laidback mid-tempo groove with echoing jazz guitar and evocative vocals ('Pala Mo'), before delivering some woozy ambient stargazing in the form of the inspired 'A X'. Over on the flip, they bounce between Dubtribe-goes-ambient techno, slow-motion deepness ('The Bird on the Hell'), spacey ambient jazz ('Dark Farfisa') and meandering, melancholic ambient ('JD's Outerlude').

It's been a while but at last the boss man himself is back on wax here, this time in collaboration with Los Desert across four fine tunes. 'Les Voyeurs De La Nuit' is a lovely jumbled-on scattered congas, toms and snaking synths that soon soothe the mind, body and soul. ITO - "Citylights" (5:14)
David Hanke - "Mirrorsides" (4:25)
Review: We're not quite sure about the story behind this EP - Bathurst have not made clear whether it's the first in a series, or whether there's a theme - but the music on show is well-worth checking. Zoe Leonard dons the Simmerdown guise on excellent opener 'Legitimacy', a slowly unfurling affair that craftily combines sun-kissed ambient electronics with cut-up, club-ready beats, gargantuan bass and 140 style vocal cut-ups. David Hanke delivers two contrasting cuts: the shuffling, bass-heavy, spacey-but-sleazy excellence of 'Deep Shit Part 3' as Black Soyls, and the cheerier and bouncier 'Mirrorsides' under his given name. Our favourite though is ITO's 'Citylights', a jazzy, slipped instrumental number full of beautiful piano flourishes and languid bass.

Review: If you're after atmospheric, sun-soaked contemporary Balearic beats, you should look no further than the latest Summer Selections EP from Phil Cooper's impeccable NuNorthern Soul label. Comprised of previously digital-only cuts and bits lifted from forthcoming albums, it's a genuine six-track treat. Our picks of a very strong bunch include the shimmering, slow-motion nu-disco of Marshall Watson's 'A Door in the Sky', the bleeping space melodies and bubbly electronic beats of Gusk's 'Sketch #4 Anafi Nights', the immersive Balearic dub of George Solar's suitably slow 'Infrared', and the reverb-laden woozy warmth of BJ Smith and Huw Costin's superb 'Sun When You Come'.

Review: Quiz any Balearic enthusiast, and they'll likely speak of Kenneth Bager in hushed tones. The Danish DJ/producer is famed for the quality of his selections, a facet that makes his occasional compilations essential listening. There's naturally plenty to admire on Balearic Biscuits Volume 2, from the sped-up African insanity of Bufiman's "Bassdrum Party", and Mehmet Aslan's fine rework of Kaprov Not Kaprov's "Mechanical Turk" (think Arabic synth melodies and rolling grooves), to the loved-up, hands-in the air brilliance of Tabu Ley Rochereau's "Hafi Deo", and Grooveman Spot's low-slung "Fork Power".

Review: Danish scene veteran and Music For Dreams overlord Kenneth Bager is undoubtedly one of the best Balearic DJs around. He has umpteen residencies on the White Isle, but it's his association with the beachside Jockey Club venue in Salinas that has become the most celebrated - thanks, in no small part, to his now annual, two-disc mix-ups. This year's edition - the sixth in total - is every bit as beguiling as its predecessors. It features a slowly shifting, soft-focus mixture of European new age favourites, sun-kissed jazz-pop, classic-sounding chill-out fare, slow motion disco, superb acoustic workouts, dub-wise electronica, contemporary dream house and spacey Balearic floor-fillers. Oh, and one of the tunes of 2018, Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco smasher "Calling Out".

Review: A couple of years ago French crate digger Charles Bals invited us to "Club Meduse", an imaginary Riviera club where the music was always obscure, European and decidedly mid-80s. Here he opens the doors once more, delivering an open-air friendly soundtrack heavy on rare private press gems, overlooked beauties and the kind of cuts that most would consider Balearic (even if they may have been more popular in Italy and France). Highlights are plentiful, from the eccentric instrumental of Voyage De Charme's fretless bass-powered "Hotel Des Savanes" and the soft-focus, flamenco-tinged bliss of Claude Miss' "Paco Ye Adama", to the sun-kissed jazz-funk/synth-pop fusion of Marc Et Frank's "Cap'tain Coke" and the reggae-zouk quirkiness of Les 36 15's "Zoulous! Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to corner of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

BeachFreaks Records co-founder Charles Bals is a man who knows about records - and obscure European ones at that. Club Meduse, his first compilation for Spacetalk (a label with a track record for producing these kinds of killer, crate-digging comps), is loosely designed as the soundtrack to life around a mythical (IE imaginary) Cote D'Azure resort. Musically, it gathers together the kind of hazy, soft-focus and life-affirming cuts that you would have heard at resort discos in the mid-to-late 1980s. Suffice to say that Bals' selections tend towards the rare, magical and undeniably Balearic, from the glassy-eyed, cascading jazz-funk of the Keyboys and loved-up post-boogie sweetness of Gemini's "Take a Chance", to the sparkling Euro-electro of Miss' "Hip Hop" and pitched-down drum machine chug of Gigi Flag's "Nymphomaniac (Instrumental)". Essential.

Review: It's been a long time between drinks for German combo Bambi Davidson, whose last full-length - the lo-fi rock oddity El Faco - dropped some 15 years ago. After a decade and a half of improvisational live performances, they return with an expanded line-up and a really rather good sophomore set for Mudd's Claremont 56 imprint. Whereas their early work was stripped-back and to the point, Brunswick is packed with undulating, expansive grooves, gentle, sun-kissed melodies, lilting pedal steel and woozy, dub-influenced production. Tracks don't so much come and go, but meander attractively, offering Balearic mood pieces that doff a cap to krautrock and dub disco. It's an impressive set, all told, and one that will appeal to Claremont 56's growing fan base.

Review: Despite a career in electronic music that stretches right back to the mid 1990s, this album marks the first time that International Feel boss Mark Barrott has released music under his own name. That's a surprise, but then the whole project - quickly recorded and mixed during a period spent living in Ibiza - has a delightfully spontaneous feel about it. Exotic, humid, atmospheric and richly immersive, Sketches From An Island sees Barrott in full on Balearic mode, laying down a series of instrumental soundscapes variously influenced by Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Peter Green and the Orb. It's pretty darn good, too, sounding like a sassier, more cultured version of his 2007 Future Loop Foundation set Memories From A Fading Room.

Review: Written, produced and recorded in Sheffield and Ibiza between 2016 and 2018, Nature Sounds Of The Balearics is Mark Barrott's third full length album following up two volumes in his Sketches From An Island series.. The International Fell boss described the musical outcome as a techno album of sorts, with influences harking back to the days of Warp's Artificial Intelligence compilations or SSR's Freezone series (as heard on the zeitgeist of '90s IDM like "TRIX/Ichimoku"), chill out ("Donchian Reprise") and Detroit's mellower moments like on the evocative "Point & Figure".

The artist who is also known for his work in Passion Dance Orchestra and as Laurentius is a master of super cool jazz and laid-back lounge electronics that have hints of 80s nostalgia without being too slavish. Originally this one came only on CD and digitally and now it makes its first foray onto vinyl thanks to First on Vinyl out of Japan. Tracks like the lush 'Pulse' are gloriously airy and spring-like montages while there is a little woozy romance to 'Before It Enters My Mind'.

Review: Ninja Tune welcome label debutant Julianna Barwick for a solo album born from imporovisaitozl sessions and endless loops of her own vocals. The LA-based artist has said the album was written during an emotional time and so it all comes from the heart, direct to you, with no real goal, aim or MO, other than making the sounds she feel at the time. "It brought me to tears a little," she has said of the process, and Nosaj Thing, Mary Lattimore and Jonsi al feature across the album's eight cuts of moody and evocative ambient drones. From heavenly and happy to more intense and introspective, it's a perfectly honest work.

Review: Bass Cleff lists the likes of Butoh, Lone Swordsmen and Acid Rain, as an inspiration on this album. He also says it has "Tubby-esque trap-doors" but what it doesn't have is the saw raw drum energy as many of his most searing 12s. This is a more meditative album, a study in ambient sound design and slow and suggestive rhythm. Tracks like 'A Glow On A Foe' get you in a trance with their pixelated keys and rich layers of pads. 'For Arthur At The Kitchen' is a DIY dub with tin-pot percussion and starry-eyed keys. 'Scintillater' feels like an ancient ritual and a futuristic vision. It all adds up to a sensational record.

Kiko Navarro, Kaidi Tatham, Blair Frech, Ezel, Cee ElAssaad, Chris Coco and John Beltram with John Arnold all line up to do their duty, incorporating the sun kissed, percussion-heavy and exotically instrumented vibes into their more house and techno productions. Highlights include Cee ElAssaad's remix of 'Get Away', its gloriously optimistic vocal retained and re-purposed over light and nimble beats, and Chris Coco's dubby slow motion samba take on 'Linda Sau Paulo', but like the label says, it's All Good

Review: A warm welcome back to cheeky downtempo twosome Bent, who hear offer up their first studio set for 14 years. Up in the Air is full of neat reminders that what made them so popular first time round, namely a seductive, slinky, atmospheric, sample-heavy sound that tended towards the tongue-in-cheek and was more likely to draw influence from dodgy, radio-friendly 1980s soft-rock singles and vintage easy listening than obscure Balearic beats or austere electronica. There are of course a few differences - it's far more polished than their early works, and even more musically detailed - but for the most part this is vintage Bent. Given how miserable the world is right now, it's rather nice to listen to an album that prioritises cheeriness, quirkiness and musical colour above all else.

It's essentially a cover/updated version of ESP's track of the same name, but this 1989 version is tougher, heavier and deeper with a variety of mixes - the New York-London, acid-infused Free House and drum heavy NU Style Mix - all designed to rock big sound systems.

Wherever he makes it, he has always cooked up something special in the in-between electronic worlds. Now he lands on Blundar with a brand new album on numbered and heavyweight translucent green vinyl that offers up 12 tracks of ambient, dub and downtempo experiments which are at times intriguing and cosmic and others laid back and beautifully lazy. Review: Amsterdam label Music from Memory are steadily becoming the most interesting archivally minded operation out there, with this retrospective of Mallorcan guitarist Joan Bibiloni following essential issues of work by Gigi Masin and Leon Lowman. On El Sur, MFM founders Tako Reyenga, Abel Nagenast and Jamie Tiller cast their gaze over Bibiloni's work from the more experimental era of his long career (he first released a single in 1967) selecting tracks from a six album run which commenced with the album Una Vida Llarga I Tranquila, originally released in 1984. It was during this time that Bibiloni began to compose with the assistance of tape loops, drum computers and synthesisers and these primitive experiments make for compelling listening across the ten tracks on El Sur.

Review: Here's something rather special: the long-await debut album from Bison, Paul 'Mudd' Murphy and pal Ben Smith's collaboration with vocalist Ursula Major and krautrock legend (and all round fruitcake) Holgar Czukay. Recorded at Czukay's legendary Cologne studio and featuring mix-downs from Conrad Idjut, Travellers is a particularly dubwise trawl through hazy, krautrock-influenced disco and horizontal Balearica. By anyone's standards, it's a deliciously intergalactic concoction; a fearlessly atmospheric blend of low-slung grooves, delay-laden horns, quirky percussion, stargazing electronics and mesmerizing, eyes-wide-shut vocals. Given the talent on show, we shouldn't have expected anything less.

Review: It's been 14 years since production duo Blank & Jones eschewed the dancefloor in favour of crafting sun-kissed Balearic mood pieces. In that time, they've released nine volumes in their Relax album series, each one packed with gentle downtempo workouts, lazy afternoon soundscapes and eyes-closed horizontal fare. This tenth edition is every bit as strong as its predecessors, with the German pair seemingly floating between seductive vocal numbers, flamenco guitar-laden ambient soundscapes, Zero 7 style sweetness and the kind of slowly unfurling, piano laden beauties that were once a cornerstone of the '90s chill out scene. None of it is particularly challenging, but that's entirely the point: this is music for unwinding to, not intellectualizing.
