Review: London never really came close to matchign Manchester in the baggy stakes, but Flowered Up's album A Life With Brian and its unique fusion of indie rock, dance, and psychedelic influences, is as close as it got. Originally released in 1991 and now reissued on limited orange vinyl, the classic 90s record is a vibrant exploration of youth culture and urban life in London with infectious grooves, catchy hooks, and anthemic choruses all present and correct and ready to deliver a dynamic and energetic listen. The album's title track stands out as a definitive highlight with its distinctive sound and lyrical depth, but really all of these tunes offer a nostalgic journey back to the early 90s and celebrates Flowered Up's enduring legacy.

Review: Roman Flugel is back with his seventh full length titled Eating Darkness. The nine tracks were created during the coronavirus lockdown of 2020, and are testament to the Frankfurt legend's penchant for mixing elements of pop with sounds of the underground - a scene he has been affiliated with since the early '90s. A variety of moods and grooves are all delivered in his idiosyncratic style: from the woozy and broken slow burner 'Chemicals', to the majestic and spellbinding dancefloor drama of 'Wow' or the raw hardware acid jack of 'Jocks And Freaks' which harks to his days as Alter Ego. Review: Apart from being the quippiest record title you'll see for a while, Flume's third mixtape is up there with the most anticipated electronic releases of the year. The Australian producer and DJ has been on a meteoric global rise over the past couple of years, having started picking up major awards around halfway through the last decade, both in his homeland and overseas - with second album, Skin, winning both an ARIA and Grammy in 2017. Review: Norwegian label Beatservice is a shining light in a Scandi-scene that is full of stars. Proof, should you need it, comes from this new album from Flunk. It is a lush mix of downtempo, disco, Balearic and indie that takes you to a better place, away from the gloom of an October afternoon in the UK. The stylised female vocals lend each tune soul and character over the gentle rhythms and acoustic guitars, the subtle basslines and floating chords. It's the sort of album that works as well on cold days as it does on warm afternoons.

Review: Fly Anakin caused quite the stir with his debut album Frank, It was critically acclaimed and lapped up by fans, who will now be delighted to tune into his follow up Skinemaxx. Produciton is taken care of by his fellow Richmond rap collective Mutant Academy member Foisey and there are some top features from Big Kahuna OG, Pink Siifu, ANKHLEJOHN and vocalist Demae. It makes for another high voltage rap record with production that harks back to the hip-hop golden era all toped with the effortlessly smooth flowing bars of Fly Anakin up top.

Review: The aural aesthetics of Flying Lotus go hand-in-hand with film scores. There was the original music contributed to the Blade Runner 2049 anime prequel, tunes for Carole & Tuesday, and the small matter of his label Brainfeeder's new film division. Now we have Yasuke, his first full score.
If you're unaware, Yasuke is the Japanese animated series that's been a hit among fans of Far Eastern cartoons since arriving on Netflix. So far so factual, what about the actual tracks themselves? Well, this collection of arrangements is at once very FlyLo, and then not that FlyLo at all. Yes, there's plenty of deep genre diving going on, nodding to freewheeling jazz, prog rock, trap and more. But here it's much more minimalistic than many might be used to - resulting in a thoroughly original approach to soundtracking a samurai story, void of stereotypes, while never fully breaking from tradition.

Review: Pitched somewhere between the gritty, propulsive beats of Los Angeles, and the exploratory jazz of Cosmogramma, Flying Lotus's fourth album, Until The Quiet Comes is arguably the most delicate record he's ever produced. Described as a "collage of mystical states, dreams, sleep and lullabies", it steers away from bigger moments, choosing instead to present an understated patchwork of breezy jazz samples, dusty hip-hop beats smeared vocals seemingly inspired by DMT hallucinations. While previous efforts were wildly futuristic at times, Until The Quiet Comes is confidently classicist - and seals Flying Lotus's position as one of our generation's visionary producers.
