Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Review: FJAAK is of course the powerhouse behind spandau20, a record label, mixtape series and events that, they say, "revolves around the connection between people and the dancefloor." This new drop on the imprint is a potent one first brought to life by Elli Acula with his ravey and edgy 'Bff.' Claus then goes for something that aprs the mind with its twisted leads and unrelenting linear funk on 'Vape Nation' and finally FJAAk themselves step up with 'Tek Tek Tek'. It's tense and dense techno thumper with the biggest kick drums you've ever heard all cut up by razor sharp hi hats and booming bass. Review: OHM is quickly becoming a quality imprint you can count on for techno and dub techno. The ninth addition in the series, it calls for an excellent blend of composers to balance this EP out. Veteran Jamie Anderson collabs with the brilliant Owain K on opener. The 'Aqua Dub' builds a euphoria for late night smiles. Smooth is an understatement on this linear gem. One artist on here that's been making strong appearances on many dub techno labels is the ever-talented Francisco Aguado. 'Balance' is a great tribal transition track for any DJ who can it creatively to build the means to an end. On the second side, Star Dub offers the very addictive and techy 'Forst'. Ending on a high note, the brisk and flighty 'Ever Growing' by Volpe completes the ninth edition in a rapturous mood. If you like deep techno, the OHM series is a must to collect.

Review: The twisted and trance-infused progressive techno sound of Les Disques De La Jungle is one we have been keen to hear more from, and here we have it: a new EP featuring some of the artists who have already dropped heat here. AV1 goes first with the crispy metal drums and warped synths of 'Meta2' then Fsk24 & Felix Dulac combine for the hammering tech-funk of 'Un Eclair Dans La Nuit' which would have been a Tyrant classic back in the day. Fsk24 then hooks up with Nils for the stomping and noen-lit jungle-tech of 'Toomai Des Elephants' before partnering with Solal Reyes for the tripped out but driving closer 'Tongue Twister'.

'Don't Cry' is nothing short of a euphoric anthem, mixing tropes from synthwave, electro and big room into a piece that could easily function as the next HALO soundtrack theme. A robotic voice narrates the entire journey - "bringing you light, I am the star, shining so bright, I am the rain refreshing the earth, I am the laughter, I am the mirth" - as if it were the telepathic monologue of a deus ex come to grant salvation to us all.

Both feature Felix Raphael and both have a subtly uplifting prog-house effect that unfolds slowly over the rich, silvery drums and deft synth drones that are all constantly on the rise. The vocals are spine-tinging, soft and tender whispers that help make this a most angelic of sounds.

Review: Sweat It Out Records kicks off their tasty Sweat Sampler series with their first volume, cutting niftily across four exceptionally sweaty bops, spanning tongue-in-cheek deep tech reworks and downtempo disco delights. It is a six track various artists EP that comes on silver marbled vinyl and opens with the sleazy underworld sounds of 'Selva Oscura' from Conceptual. Review: Cabinet is one of those labels that has been turning out the tuned for years and the quality level somehow never seems to dip. This latest 12" opens up with a Daniel Paul edit of Da Kick Squad's 'Do This Gig' which is slick tech with hints of Melchior's smooth sound design. Daniel Paul & DJ Trike' 'Rollo' (Atitlan version) is another perfect example of nailing a sweet and hypnotic house loop and just letting it run for days. Sadan's 'Creamster Shake'is a more trippy and lithe affair with some playful melodies and Flashbaxx's 'Gold' is a deep, late night and candle-lit sound for romantic and intimate spaces.

Review: Coming in hot after last year's Pura Lempuyang compilation is this new two part 12" offering up cuts from it on limited edition turquoise wax. Dib kicks off with 'Cieloterra' which is a devilishly deep and dubby techno cut with fizzing synths running across its face. Federsen is much more smooth and silky with liquid pads and a sublime sense of frictionless groove to his 'Random Motion' while Grad U offers more heavy and stumbling dub quakes on 'From The Shadows.' Last of all is Altone's 'Emergent Structure,' a lush minimal excursion with deft hits and feathery pads over sublime drums.

Review: The second release on RPX16035 takes us back into the beating heart of full-fat electro with a cast of emergent talents bitten by the machine funk bug. Digregorius is up first with 'Aurora Maia', a schlocky slice of twisted synth lines that draws parallels with labels like EYA and Partisan. Gianluca Pellerano has a definite video game soundtrack influence lingering over his track like he's battling an end of level boss. Review: The Nullpunkt label is fast approaching its 25th release but first comes this fearsome outing from F&E. The third installment in the Forschung & Entwicklung series comes on grey vinyl and does not mess about with five more cuts all served up as Antal or Rural versions from 2016. The first rides on rusty jungle breaks, the second, 'Conclusion', is an atmospheric piece with a minimal rhythm and warped synth daubs while 'Six Days' is a dark and heavy piece of ambient techno dystopia. 'Outro' is the lightest and brightest piece of synth work on the EP then 'Research' brings back the jungle techno with more serrated synths and loopy, jagged rhythms.

Review: Brazilian Fabe has been at the heart of the evolution of house and tech in recent years. His kinetic, high-impact sound has brought freshness to the new school and continues to do so now with this EP on the young but promising Les Enfant label out of Spain. 'Hyped By Light' is a perfect embodiment of his sound - garage-style percussive precision, clipped but bouncing kicks and great vocal samples. 'Jabba The Hot' is another one to sweep you off your feet, 'Heading To NL' is darker and more stripped back but no less potent and 'Pankow Plastic' shuts down with a little cosmic energy. Pure dancing tackle of the highest order.

Review: Craigie Knowes are back at it for 2024 with a return appearance from Fader Cap. After a rapid run of first releases in 2022, we've been waiting for a follow-up from the chap and he more than delivers. As the EP title might suggest, he's exploring echo chamber processing on his tracks, but the delay and reverb is teased with precision amidst the shimmering, psy trance tinted tech house vibe he so ably builds on these incredibly accomplished club cuts. 'Kanisza' is an especially hypnotic, subtly broken workout for a more delicate kind of dancefloor, while 'Thinker' offers up punchy arps and flecks of acid for the more up-for-it crowd.

Review: Budapest's Dalmata Daniel rewire the electro efforts of Timothy K. Fairplay for their ninth 12", which also includes a B-side icing by none other than fellow producer Norwell. These four retrofuturist cosmopolitan jams are heard divided between the two artists, and do well to flaunt the specific valences of their production styles, which, while doing well to stick to the cosmic aesthetic, cannot help but betray unconscious stylistic hallmarks. Fairplay's is as tweezy and kick-phat as ever, with 'Caliber 9' being the obvious choice as the sonic equivalent of a 70s infographic on telecoms gone haywire. Norwell's take on the vibe is breaksier and more muted, with closing number 'Natives' being the cut of choice, burbling in a vat of liquid acid and emotive smoke.

Review: For those too young to remember the days of glitch-house and electro-house at the turn of the noughties (think Herve, Switch, Claude Vonstroke etc), Fake Blood was one of the true masters of the style. He released a swathe of big records for Cheap Thrills and others, with the two tracks collected here - both of which date from 2009 - being the biggest. A-side 'I Think I Like It' is a superb example of the style, with the producer expertly cutting up a pleasingly silly and over-the-top disco-pop number and turning it into sweat-soaked, hands-aloft gold. 'Mars', meanwhile, gains its dancefloor power from a frankly filthy, mind-altering bassline-turned-lead-line, around which crispy drums, breakbeats and Mylo-esque synth stabs make their presence felt.

Review: Len Faki's ambitious Fusion project aw the German techno titan really dig deep into his own production process and challenges himself to up his game. The results were superb and devastating on the floor, and so have been the remixes he has served up on his own Figure label. This collection sees some top names rework the originals into their own style with Pangaea bringing some slick future synth work to 'Space Cowboys I', Rroxymore bringing heavy percussive grooves to 'Tor 8' and Truncate adding his signature rock solid drum funk to 'It's Time (To Move Your Body).' A very useful collection for DJs and dancers.

Review: Len Faki used the lockdowns to reconnect with production, hone his skills and tap deeper into his influences. The result was an adventurous long player, Fusion, that he has released over the course of a few EPs on his own Figure label. This is the third and final installment and it opens with 'Halide', a broken beat wobbler with plenty of percussive flair and slow-burning tension. 'Make Me Scream' has a throwback 80s synth feel with gothic vocals and then on the flip side he offers up more of the sort of potent peak time techno he is known for with 'Tor 8.' Last up is the cosmic melodic style of 'Astra' to conclude what has been a great project.

Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. Over on side B, Grizzly Knuckles' 'Mad Bell' - a breathless, house tempo techno workout built around a nagging synth-bell loop - is followed by label regular The Jak's 'Aftermath', which sits somewhere between jacking lo-fi techno, UK funky and stab-happy Soca-house.

Review: Those pesky Swedish pranksters Studio Barnhus always like to surprise and subvert with the music they make and release and it is fair to say we never expected to find FaltyDL on their well regarded label. It finds the accomplished New Yorker paying homage to deep house while also updating the classic template. 'Our House Is Barnhus' is run through with serene strings as the paddy drums uplifting you and sprinklings of percussion keep things classy. 'Gut Punch' is the one though - a steamy and deep cut that channels early Prescription and Pepe Braddock into something beautiful.

Review: Italian producer Fango has been busily building up his own sound world via his Degustibus Music label, but now he makes a strident move into the wider world with this outstanding record for Running Back. The authoritative tech house label knows its onions, and you can tell why they were drawn to these distinctive, inventive twists on the formula. 'Dimetrodonte' in particular is the kind of freaky workout which will get people paying close attention thanks to some artful vocal sample juggling, while there's some subtly anthemic joy to be felt in the likes of 'Diplodoco' which once again finds original ways to express classic ideas in the tech house tradition.

Review: For the first time ever, Basic Spirit has enlisted an artist who isn't in-house to contribute to its fine catalogue. And there is no one finer for that honour than Fantastic Man, a legend in the game with a fantastically fresh sound no matter what style he turns his hand to. He kicks off with 'Spiritual Guidance' which is pacey, spacey house music with real synth serenity. 'The Beach' brings broken beats and sot acid manoeuvres next to rueful piano chords. 'Novara' then appears twice on the flip in two different versions - a Progressive Fantasy which lifts you off your feet and takes you amongst the stars, and a darker and more moody Progressive Mindfuck.

Review: Italian techno trunculator Marco Faraone returns to ask: 'Any Good Vibe?' It's a good question, because truly good vibes can be hard to come by nowadays, not least in today's socio-economic-political climate, and Faraone proves himself more than able to channel this feeling of ambivalence, with his three newest tracks - the title track, 'Ego Kills' and 'Ghana' - spanning moods of both stress and joy in equal measure. Review: Returning to Drumcode for the umpteenth time comes Marco Faraone, offering up two tracks, 'Dangerous' and 'Pressure', both of which evoke gargantuan factory rooms and processing plants. The first track is a clean and pulsatory loomer, with essences of tech house and big room sprinkled in, as we're continually reminded that whatever awaits us round the corner, "it's dangerous". Review: Fausto wrote his new single with the mantra "the less you force, the faster things become clear" in mind. 'Mexicoma' is indeed a fresh sound, a mix of slow and heavy EBM drums and stark hits run through with weird vocal mutterings and taught acid lines that twang about the mix. It's a great experimental chugger for teasing a backroom. The Roe Deers remix is a subtle rework with more elastic drums and bass and the Elfenberg remix then gets more raw and frazzled. Mijo seems to slow it a touch and up the acid quota while the Passific Assalt Sissem dub remix is a fleshy one to rewire your brain.

Review: Titanic Scottish techno label Soma continues to be one of Europe's consistent outlets with a new EP from Portuguese talent Lewis Fautzi that takes no prisoners. 'Density' kicks off with hammering drums and the sort of brain-frying synths that are so sharp and textured they make your eyes water. 'Severity' then sets off at a canter with hulking great kick drums and more intense synth waves. 'Malleability' is slithery more rubbery and hypnotic, with rubbing synths and quickened kicks rocking you into a meditative mind state and 'Tension' closing down with a dark late night mood.

Review: Ethan Fawkes is an old-school rave, techno and EBM artists from Belgium. The sounds he has long since championed are very much back en vogue now with all the cool kids and so it is that his 'Belgium Is Back' tune now gets reissue with a series of huge contemporary remixes. The original is a writhing and contorted big room banger with oversized synths and slamming kicks. Of the remixes, Monya layers in blizzard-like synth flurries and an Interactive Early 90s remix west more stripped back and deep.
