Review: After the first reissue of this late last year, it has now been pressed up once more but this time on heavyweight vinyl for maximum volume. It is the work of DJ Hyperactive and Woody McBride who originally teamed up as Fuzz Face in 1996. They made only one related under that project and this is it - an album with its eight tracks stretched across four sides that all served up freaky, wigged-out techno. It's as fresh now as ever and is a masterclass in acid techno that keeps the sonic warm and inviting even as they barrel deep into the heart of narcotic night music. A timeless classic if ever there was one.

Review: Detroit legend Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes has had a truly massive month with a couple of releases on his esteemed Detroit Wax imprint (which he runs with Niko Marks) and this week he kickstarts his City Boy imprint back into action. This is its first release in 11 years, presenting part one of the Knucklehead Series featuring a fine selection of moods and grooves. First up is the deep down and dirty tech-funk of '1-2-3', followed by the dusty twilight mood music of 'Hold Me Down' and over on the flip is the double 12's most energetic cut in the form of 'Test Unknown' - a sincere expression in proper Motor city style 'hi-tech soul'.

Review: Len Faki's ambitious Fusion project aw the German techno titan really dig deep into his own production process and challenges himself to up his game. The results were superb and devastating on the floor, and so have been the remixes he has served up on his own Figure label. This collection sees some top names rework the originals into their own style with Pangaea bringing some slick future synth work to 'Space Cowboys I', Rroxymore bringing heavy percussive grooves to 'Tor 8' and Truncate adding his signature rock solid drum funk to 'It's Time (To Move Your Body).' A very useful collection for DJs and dancers.

Review: BOOM! Our favourites, Cititrax, roll the third editions of Tracks out onto our shelves, and the results are unsurprisingly strong on this excellent various artists comp. It's a mixed bag of skills, as per usual, and the sounds are those of a new NYC, fuelled by a new sort of post-industrial sensibility. Amato Y Mariana open with the tight beats and groove of "Queires Bailar", followed closely by the ominous compositions of the EBM-flavoured "Montgat" from The Sixteen Steps. On the flip, His Dirty Secrets bleeps out some morphed acid on "Structures", and "Another Stranger" from Further Reductions churns out a slow, mild-mannered house experiment with its roots clearly planted in the coldest of waves. Sick.

Review: Six months after their first collaborative outing 'Die Zeit' in May - also on thyme Systematic label - two bonafide German techno titans have been busy in the studio once more. This time they offer up 'Der Rhythmus' on limited edition splattered vinyl and it is another timeless, terrific and peak time cut. The drums and snares are snappy as you like with distorted bass down low and suspensory arps keeping you on edge as a libidinous female vocal adds the final touches. UK duo Dense & Pika remix with a more stripped-back but not less slamming sound.

Review: Valencia's Alex Font returns on his very own Acme imprint for its ninth release titled Cooperation One and like its name suggests collaboration is key. On the first side, he teams up with newcomer Nayve on the haunting and arcane atmosphere of 'Laudes' which will appeal to fans of early Sepp and Nu Zau or more recently, Pirvu. This is followed by the etheral Rominimal style bounce of 'Understood'. Over on the flip 'Felices Los 3' (with Vadim Oslov & Saav) again ventures into brooding and abstract territory, while "Zurich-Valencia Crossing" (with Aron) ends things on a more upbeat note on this sunny and emotive tech house cut.

It is a six track various artists EP that comes on silver marbled vinyl and opens with the sleazy underworld sounds of 'Selva Oscura' from Conceptual. Orbe's 'Thorax' then goes down a deep, dark late night techno tunnel in mind melting fashion and Sciahri's deft loops on 'No Fear' leave you feeling utterly in the moment. Review: Berlin born Felix K is a music composer and producer with a sound perfectly befitting his hometown, as proven here on Nullpunkt. This is an EP of stylish techno for darkened basements - the drums are heavy but never lack funk, the synths are scuffed metal but full of soul and the whole ambience of the tunes is gritty, grey and lo-fi yet they are all hugely alluring and evocative. There is a spooky sense of unease in 'Earth' and real dub brilliance to 'Who Are You.' 'Sobriquet' is a more intense rhythmic exercise with many layers or interlocking sound while a Deconstruction By Forest Drive West of 'Earth' is late night techno minimalism par excellence.

Review: Fresh, bustling release magic by Tokyo-based edit/remix label Funtown, featuring a catchy and percussive disco cut replete with obscure, nigh-unidentifiable samples. Like scouring a neon-lit, Chevrolet-packed city at night - and being bowled over at the sheer wealth of nightclubs to visit and streets to drive down - the eponymous Funtown beefs up the percussion on 'Bigger Fun', extending and teasing the original elements of whichever obscurity made up the backbone of this texturally rich, limited-edition release.

Review: Newcastle's Hot Biscuit Recordings pull the strings behind many a white label sub-imprint, one of which is the elusive Funtown Records. The orchestrator of this edits series is obscure, and so are the sample sources for each of the edits heard on this 12". On the A-side, we hear a tight-lipped James Brown-style breakdown and ensuing boogie number, on which it is insisted that we "know what makes (this singer) feel alright". Good to know! The B-side, meanwhile, errs far further in the direction of instrumental synthfunk, proving the versatile mettle of this raucous reworker.

Review: The Nullpunkt label is fast approaching its 25th release but first comes this fearsome outing from F&E. The third installment in the Forschung & Entwicklung series comes on grey vinyl and does not mess about with five more cuts all served up as Antal or Rural versions from 2016. The first rides on rusty jungle breaks, the second, 'Conclusion', is an atmospheric piece with a minimal rhythm and warped synth daubs while 'Six Days' is a dark and heavy piece of ambient techno dystopia. 'Outro' is the lightest and brightest piece of synth work on the EP then 'Research' brings back the jungle techno with more serrated synths and loopy, jagged rhythms.

Review: The Dolfin label has been rolling out some high quality jams of late and are currently building up to a much anticipated album from Blaque Dynamite that is worth keeping an eye open for. Now they look to Felix for this hand-stamped vinyl 7" 'Kween In My Eyes'. It is a slow, low slung and heart-warming deep house sound with a hooky beat and jazzy chord draped over the drums as a smooth r&b vocal is smeared into the mix. On the flip is the even more downbeat and late night 'Domelo Ance' with its lazy and heat damaged chords making for a super seductive sound. A steamy 45 then, for sure.

Review: There's plenty to get sucked into on this latest 12" transmission from Germany's Movida. It is Part 1 of a new Waterdrop EP from a quartet of artists. Somfay goes it alone to start with on the far-sighted and zoned-out house of 'Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water). Luc Ringeisen & Funk E then link up for 'Treinta Y Siempre' which is a lithe and sleek electro-tinged rhythm with lovely downbeat bass notes and more uplifting melodic patterns. Last of all is Polyfan Polyphenix, a jittery and rugged rhythm with razor sharp hi-hats and twisted vocals that bring a leftfield sound to 'Polymorph 2.'

Review: The French pop scene is vast and full of treasures but Claude Francois is one of its more mysterious and mythical characters. He was active on the scene from the 60s until he was taken away too soon in a sad domestic accident in 1978 having been a trained percussionist and something of a teenage sensation. He sure did know how to write some killer grooves, though, and in fact co-wrote and sang the original version of what would become 'My Way,' no less. This one, 'Alexandrie Alexandra' was recorded in October 1977 and now gets some special reruns from the one and only Dimitri From Paris who brings the joyous disco goodness.

Review: Regis and Female's Againstnature album from 2000 gets the full reissue treatment here by Berlin label, Tresor. Released under their given names Karl O'Connor and Peter Sutton, the record is a noted zenith of the Birmingham techno scene of the era. It has had a major influence on the music that was released in the years after and has here been remastered for a fresh double vinyl pack. As well as the original sounds, there is also 'Theme From Streetwalke,' a track that was previously released on a Tresor compilation. The tracks are heavy but relatively stripped back. They're packed with texture and atmosphere and never less than hugely compelling.

Review: It's testament to the enduring quality and far-sighted nature of Future Sound of London's iconic 1991 single 'Papua New Guinea' that it keeps being 'rediscovered' by new generations of DJs. It has been a while, though, since any new reworks dropped - hence this 'Rebooted' edition. L Major kicks things off with a suitably cosmic, psychedelic and slow-building proto-jungle style offering, before Nishiesque flits between passages of hot-stepping, synth-laden d&b and slo-mo 4/4 chug. House heroes Soul Central reach for vintage hip-house breakbeats, ambient electronics and the original version's most life-affirming elements (the bassline, twinkling synth melodies and heady vocal samples), while Dee Montero re-casts the cut as a proggy, tribal-tinged tech-house roller.

Review: FJAAK is of course the powerhouse behind spandau20, a record label, mixtape series and events that, they say, "revolves around the connection between people and the dancefloor." This new drop on the imprint is a potent one first brought to life by Elli Acula with his ravey and edgy 'Bff.' Claus then goes for something that aprs the mind with its twisted leads and unrelenting linear funk on 'Vape Nation' and finally FJAAk themselves step up with 'Tek Tek Tek'. It's tense and dense techno thumper with the biggest kick drums you've ever heard all cut up by razor sharp hi hats and booming bass. Review: Repeat's 'All & All' series is doing a great job in documenting the immense contribution that UK tech-house pioneer Terry Francis has made to the electronic underground. The genius of Francis's work of the late 90s and 2000s is how it presented a form of purist tech-house that drew as much from classic US deep house as the stargazing futurism of techno. This fifth instalment in the series boasts three decidedly deep excursions. Side A sports 'Loving You', an ultra-dreamy and immersive affair from 2001 that wraps deep house elements around a typically chunky and hypnotic groove. Over on the B-side, the echoing male vocal snippets, sumptuous pads and bubbly electronics of 'Strong Woman' are followed by the slightly more dubby (and even dreamier) brilliance of 1999's 'Love In'.

This debut EP, 'Arkiv I', comes after many years of expert curating of their podcast series and welcomes four different, equally vital artists to offer up some fresh techno. Forest On Stasys kicks off with 'Sunken', a swamp and gurgling bit of mind-melting sound design, Zemog's 'A'te' then rides on silky, meditative loops with rising synth tension and Eyvind Blix follows a similar path with a more psychedelic edge. Review: Simona Faraone's label, New Interplanetary Melodies, welcomed Feel Fly for an EP that is "inspired by the ancient and mysterious Etruscan culture, whose peoples inhabited the historical-geographical region of central Italy." He hails from Italy himself of course and has written soundtracks for movies as well as great dancefloor tunes. The tracks here combine dreamy melodies with hurried breakbeats, corrugated acid techno jams and 90s post-rave house sounds that carry you on waves of blissed-out pads. It adds up to an EP that feels steeped in ancient ritual as well as having one eye on the future.

Review: Eddie Fowlkes is one of those underrated American artists who has made as much of a contribution to house and techno as any of his more celebrated peers. His music remains innovative and essential and here he appears on an equally vital label, Classic. 'AHYEE' is timeless deep house with chunky drum funk and great vocal samples. 'Blow' is blistering, blown-out techno and 'Talking To Me' then flips it again with a late night seducer featuring warming chords. 'Complex' is the most melodic and freewheeling of the lot, a fresh house sound for sure.

Review: Lisbon label Satya strides into 2023 via 'Connections', a multi-artist extravaganza which it says sets their agenda for the year ahead. Zone Plus sets the tone with 'Space Invaders', an attractive mix of alien-sounding lead lines, intergalactic chords, deep analogue bass and hypnotic house beats, before Yokoo brilliantly joins the dots between minimal house, electro, and ultra-deep business on the crackling, heavily atmospheric 'Aurora'. Over on the B-side, Francesco Mami blurs the boundaries between deep house and tech-house on the highly atmospheric, sub-heavy shuffle of 'Mentat', while Retza opts for ghostly chords, tactile tech-house beats and reverb-laden melodic motifs on 'Spaces'.

Review: Marco Funari released his Franky E.P. Vol. 2 back in 1991 in the Music Institute label and it is now residues following last year's Ciao Lee Tong banger. These are all direct to dancefloor and raw house jams with plenty of proud analogue textures and no nonsense grooves. 'Stand Up' is a standout with its steamy vocals stitched into the bristling drums while 'Heart Vibe' sinks into a deeper groove with prominent 90s basslines taking centre stage. There is more all out emption in 'Drur Soul' with its diva cries and steamy emotional intensity while 'Runaway' is a percussive thumper.

Review: Detroit don Floorplan aka Robert Hood has mastered the art of the loop. He knows how to distill voices, drums and synths to their core components and then let them roll endlessly. The results are magnificently captivating and the case of this last, gospel-tinged and potent enough to get even the most ardent atheists believing. Look no further than the turbocharged gospel-tech and impassioned choral cries of 'We Give Thee Honor' for evidence. Less grinding ad a little more silky is the uplifting house sound of 'Makes Me Wanna' on the flip. Two magnificent cuts courtesy of Classic here.

Review: Louie Fresco is a firm fixture in Mexico's booming tech house scene these days, and as he continues to evolve as an artist we find him linking up with Curtea Veche for an EP which brings unmistakable Latin qualities into a club context. On the original of 'Junto A Ti', a freaky framework of twitchy percussion and looming bass builds in delicate formation around the vocal which defines the track. It's delightfully off-kilter and not a little reminiscent of the early days of Cadenza Records. 'Youknowhatimsayin?' is a more sprightly affair which leans on deft breakbeats and warped voices flinging in and out of the mix, not least some choice spots from the one and only J-Roc.

Review: Letters From Home is a gorgeous new single from Rowee and Flowers On Monday. The original is a deep and shimmering late-night house lullaby with soft drums and shakers all sinking you into a reverie. The keys and synths are impossibly delicate and innocent up top as the groove unfurls and you fall ever more in its spell. The Mass Digital remix is an even more zoned-out affair with the addition of some angelic vocal sounds and the DSF remix brings a more prominent but still smoky and heavenly vocal over more percussive drums. Slow Hearts closes down with a last magnificent rework.

Review: Bumping bass house blends right here as Facta links up with Lurka's Fringe White for a wobbly slab of jacking fun that's reminiscent of the early Switch and Jesse Rose material from around 20 years ago. For a little more esoteric mischief then head for either of the two Dorisburg remixes. The main one wriggles and writhes with an ice cold electro spirit while Dorisburg's 'beats remix' proceeds to space things out even more, adding even more intensity and drama. Four tracks of the atmospherically-padded variety, with a temperate, dramatic feel to boot, play across the two sides and four separated grooves of 'Entre Deux'. Review: Posh End are a UK techno label lending a specialist hand to the continuation of the genre; and 'Hours Up The M6' is a new split EP which taps into a distinctive cornerstone of the "hardcore continuum" - that of endless miles traversed in minivans and hatchbacks on 90s M- and A-roads, scouring the fields for a place to plonk the generator and ignite the free party flame.
