Review: Although he's probably travelled beneath most house and techno enthusiasts' radars, Germany's Andreas Gehm has released music on some of the most respected and coveted independent labels in the game. First and foremost, he debuted back in 2009 with an appearance alongside Steve Poindexter for Jamal Moss' mythical Mathematics imprint - having subsequently released a string of EP's for the dread-haired techno outsider - and then he landed on everything from Chiwax to Solar One Music alongside Helena Hauff. This week he's out on the ever-impressive Super Rhythm Trax and he's brought four jacking cuts with him. The flavour is steeped in the finest of Chicago flavours, boldly manifested by the 303-driven opener that is "I Don't Dance", but it's also one that verges onto the Berlin sound via "Control Your Mind". Check em', they're a squadron of killers!!

Review: Late Cologne acid extraordinaire Andreas Gehm released Panic/I Drop Acid back in 2015 on local imprint Suspected. It now gets a reissue featuring the two original tracks plus a bunch of killer remixes. The intense and tunnelling warehouse techno of "I Drop Acid Tonight"is absolutely timeless and a true recreation of the early '90s techno sound, while the epic "Panic" features some more gliding 303 business over some spitfire rhythm patterns. Speaking of which, there's some fierce drums also on to be admired on UK techno legend Paul Mac's rework. Snuffo's brooding lo-fi industrial techno workout will appeal to L.I.E.S. fans and Berlin retroverts Snuff Crew hand in a suitably jackin' Chicago style remix that you'd expect of the I Love Acid fraternity.

Review: Back in June, the world of electronic music was shocked by the early death of Andreas Gehm, one of the contemporary acid scene's most prodigious talents. During his lifetime, Gehm was a prolific producer, and thus left behind a vast archive of unreleased work. As this latest posthumous 12" proves, he was still churning out brilliant jack-tracks until the end. A-side "Track 1" combines his trademark psychedelic TB-303 work with a rock-solid drum machine groove and spacey synthesizer lead lines. If anything, B-side cut "Track 2" is even more uncompromising, with Gehm relentlessly working acid lines over a snappier, Chicago-centric groove. It's further proof, not that any were needed, of the size of the talent we've lost.

Review: While much recent attention has focused on his health issues, Yellow Flower shows that few modern acid producers can match Andreas Gehm. Ironically, the title track on this release keeps the acid input to a minimum, superseded by dreamy synths and a hypnotic chant. "Flower" has the delicacy and weirdness of Legowelt without sounding in any way like the Dutch producer. On "Late at Night", Gehm reverts to type; the 303s are pushed to distorted levels, hats tick and whirr relentlessly, while his trademark snares provide a backdrop for an eerie Nu Groove synth line and some rumbling vocals. "Less Violence" is equally foreboding, as dark walls of synths compete with Gehm's rolling drums to be heard. It's the sound of a true master at work.

Review: The Happy Skull label hasn't been afraid to look locally for inspiration, with The Kelly Twins sourcing some fine output from Bristol types Marco Bernardi, Rhythmic Theory, Kowton. But 12"s from Throwing Shade and Creta Kano suggests their feelers extend much further too! The latest Happy Skull release extends an invitation to Cologne and the severely under rated Andreas Gehm, a man who really knows how to abuse his acid lines to great effect. Lead track "Yes Or No" is the sort of cut you keep in your record box for the sweaty moments deep into a set when you really want to beat down the dancefloor. "Summer Time In Coloniae" does offer a more pensive side to Gehm's palette and perhaps inspired the Twin Peaks artwork on the 12", whilst closer "Going By" is ocean deep.

Review: This superb, six-track assault on the senses gathers together some of the most sought-after cuts from the Balkan Vinyl and I Love Acid vaults, five of which have never before been seen on wax. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the wild, lo-fi acid stomp of LFO's "I Love Acid" and the late Andreas Gehm's "Heaven & Hell", to the breakbeat-drive rave madness of Luke Vibert's "Acid Hitler" and the gentle braindance shuffle of Plaid's "Hui". Arguably best of all, though, is B12's "Proximity", which sounds like an electro re-make of LFO's "LFO" with added clandestine creepiness.
