  1. Gosub - "Take Your Time" (4:58)
  2. ACEW & Ghost Ride - "Mind The Gap" (5:47)
  3. Cignol - "Chorus Envy" (5:06)
  4. Jared Wilson - "Toughskined" (4:30)
Review: A fine example of Pan-European collaboration here, as the Brighton-based Furthur Electronix label buddies up with Berlin stable Libertine Records for a very special joint release. Shad T. Scott kicks things off (under his now familiar Gosub alias) with the deep, sparkling and picturesque electro shuffle of "Take Your Time", before ACEW + Ghost Ride layer spacey, minor-key synths over skittish drums on the rather fine "Mind The Gap". The quality threshold remains high on side B, where Cignol's inspired, acid-flecked electro workout "Chorus Envy" - which to these ears is as rush-inducing as any similarly melodic early Orbital record - is followed by the stomping, fuzz-fuelled lo-fi techno thump of Jared Wilson's "Toughskined".

  5. Inland (5:51)
Review: There's much to enjoy about the output of the Kimochi label, not least the bespoke, spray-painted sleeves and their habit of releasing only the deepest, most hypnotic electronic music. Their latest must-have release is another super-limited affair that drifts lazily between ultra-deep cuts shot through with dub-wise rhythms, atmospheric shoegaze motifs, echoing ambient chords and beats straight out of the early '90s ambient techno playbook. It's utterly gorgeous and deliciously hazy, with slow-burn melodies and undulating electronics slowly rising above reverb-laden chords, warm basslines and occasionally skittish rhythms. There's something particularly special about the locked-in drums and hypnotic bassline of "Elljus", but the ambient soundscapes "Heden" and "Inland" are also superb.

Deep House
  1. Doin It
  2. Doin It (Noema's Dirty Dubbing remix)
  3. Doin It (NY Ak remix)
  4. Doin It (instrumental)
Review: Marcel Vogel and Intimate Friends seems to be an equation that always results in vinyl bliss - see last year's inaugural seven inch from the label which had input from Vogel along with Jordan Czamanski, Ruf Dug and other talented friends. Expanding matters to the 12" format for this third release only means there is more room to fill with sonic excellence and Vogel is clearly up to the task. It's a diverse affair with four takes on "Doin' It", with the predominant mood on the A Side soul heavy and dubby on both the original and refix from African Shakedown's Noema. The 12" is fairly ruled by the flipside refix from NY AK however, with the UK producer recasting the original as dusty Detroit influenced house!

Review: Since it first appeared back in 1999, Gemini's fourth full-length, The Music Hall, has become something of a sought-after item. Happily, Chi Wax has decided to re-master and re-issue it. Predictably, it's stood the test of time rather well, with Gemini - real name Spencer Kincy - serving up a whirlwind tour of late '90s Chicago obsessions. So, there's the jazz-flecked, proto-boompty bounce of opener "The Entrance", the Larry Heard-on-valium warmth of "Kiva Song", the stripped-back, disco-influenced house funk of "Let's Go", and - more surprisingly - the UK garage influenced bounce of "Dreamer". He also doffs a cap to early Daft Punk style techno-funk on "Future Beat", and fuses dirty bass, jazzy keys and swinging breakbeats on standout closer "Raplh".

  9. Generation Next & Big Strick - "Full Of Life"
  10. Generation Next - "Flynn's"
Review: Big Strick's latest full-length offering on his own 7 Days Entertainment label is a family affair, mixing tracks from the veteran Detroit producer with similarly deep and woozy jams from his 16 year-old son Tre Strickland, AKA Generation Next. The father-and-son team's approach to house - wringing atmospheric soul from bubbling rhythms, warm chords and blazed melodies - is surprisingly similar, as shown by the two deep, jazz-flecked collaborations showcased here. Elsewhere, both impress with their individual contributions, with Strickland Junior's slap bass-infused deep head-nodder "Flynn's" and sweet, winding "Mo Money" standing out.

  8. What U Done 4 Me (feat ?) (5:32)
Review: We've been impressed by the previous output from soul-loving, lo-fi deep house songsmith Tom Kerridge's Girls of the Internet project, so it's heartening to find that this double 12" boasts his strongest collection of cuts to date. Kerridge sets his stall out via the deep, dubby and seriously seductive shuffle of "Patience", before vocalist Linda Muriel guests on the punchy two-step slickness of "Humble". "Take Back" and "Hello Judy" both boast sultry male vocals, warm bass guitar and lo-fi club beats, while "U Changed" is a slinky, skewed UK garage workout. Elsewhere, "Sun Comes Up" is a sunrise-ready chunk of two-step warmth, "Still" is a string-laden deep house treat and closer "What U Done 4 Me?" is lo-fi deep house-soul straight from the top drawer.

Review: There's no doubt that Berliner's Max Graef and Glenn Astro are some of the biggest success stories to emerge from the deep house sound and creating their own signature style that's often copied of late, but seldom ever matched! Sure, the dusty hip-hop inspired jams are no doubt indebted to Detroit legends such as Theo Parrish or Andres but they've certainly put their own slant on it and created a new sound for the German capital to be synonymous with. Testament to their success is this LP for the legendary Ninja Tune; The Yard Work Simulator. Nearly a dozen tracks of chilled, sampledelic, MPC driven dope jams that are the perfect soundtrack for a misspent youth in Berlin this Summer. In particular check the raggedy junkyard joint that is "Where Fuck Are My Hard Boiled Eggs" or the psychedelic urban soul jam that is the title track.

  8. Yes But I Didn't Know They Were Owls (2:47)
Review: Given her rising reputation in recent years, it's something of a surprise to find that Rembo is Karen Gwyer's first full-length excursion since 2013's Kiki The Wormhole on Opal Tapes. While that latter set was impressive, Rembi is arguably even better. For starters, Gwyer refuses to settle on one groove, following a glistening ambient opener with a fuzzy, IDM-influenced chunk of left-of-centre dancefloor techno, which in turn makes way for a beat-less slab of hazy synthesizer positivity. It's a pattern that continues throughout, as the talent American producer delivers bustling, redlined techno jams laden with dirt-encrusted synthesizer motifs, spacey IDM club tracks and picturesque electronic soundscapes that sidestep easy categorization.
