Review: This live concert performance, captured just five days before the US release of Are You Experienced, the JHE's album debut, is notable for being one of the last times the band performed in front of an audience as relative unknowns. Having already conquered the band's UK base as well as Continental Europe over the previous ten months, the vast majority of the 17,000 plus Los Angeles concert-goers were there to see headliners The Mamas & The Papas and were caught off guard by Hendrix's electrifying musicality and showmanship. Finally, the set can be enjoyed by the rest of the world for the first time ever; amazingly, not a single second of this unique, two-track live recording has ever been released before in any capacity, either via official channels or elsewise.

Review: As you probably know, pop music in Korea is a multi million dollar business with several leading bands all boasting vast and undying fanbases willing to spend plenty of money on anything and everything relating to their favourite act. BTS is one of the biggest of the lot and South Korean singer Jimin is one of the members of the group who has done a solo album. Face is it and now it arrives on white vinyl after initial release back in 2022. It was all co-written by Jimin and was inspired by the emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic so addresses "themes of loneliness, wrestling with oneself, and finding freedom".

Review: Jimmy Giuffre was an American jazz clarinetist and saxophonist who helped propose ideas in jazz around free improvisation that led to some remarkably fluid, spirited works as his career matured in the 50s and 60s. 50 years on from its initial release, Music For People, Birds, Butterflies & Mosquitoes sounds like a landmark vision. It might be framed as free jazz, but it retains a harmonious, soulful quality which is more readily aligned with Sun Ra, or even as grounded as Yusef Lateef and Pharaoh Sanders. Joined by Randy Kaye on percussion and Kiyoshi Tokunaga on bass, the sharply focused trio found a veritable menagerie of expression that sounds just as vital in the modern day.

They all make for a colourful exploration of reggae sounds that are as impactful now as they ever were. Review: It's been a while since Freerange boss Jamie Odell (better known, of course, as Jimpster) delivered an album; in fact, his last full-length dropped way back in 2006. Seven years is a long time between drinks, but the rest seems to have done Odell good; Porchlight & Rocking Chairs is arguably his strongest album to date. While deep house remains his focus (see the intricate "Glowing Embers", Detroit influenced "Cracks In The Pavement" and Moodymann-ish "High Wire"), there's a soulful bagginess and barely concealed jazziness throughout. More impressively, many tracks hark back to his pre-house days as a producer of lovingly crafted downtempo gems (see "Jasmine Dragon", "Wanting You" and previous single "These Times".

Review: Jitwam is an already accomplished, beatmaker who brings even more goodness on this new album. It is a work that fuses totters samples and edits with plenty of live instrumentals and brings to mind plenty of peaceful moments during the busyness of everyday life. The album was years in the making we are told and was inspired by time he spent in London but also his adventures in New York City. There are some guest features from Melanie Charles and Akhtari and a mixture of processed vocals, heady soul sounds and lush jazz moves.

Prime cuts include Rrose's snarling, overtone-laden remix of 'Empty Words', with reese bass glissandos lacerated by a clattering percussion and hollow harmonics, London-Detroit superhighway technician Steve Bicknell's stroboscopic, swampy spin on 'Veneer Of Tolerance', and Samuel Kerridge's hotwired amen lengdown of the same track. Review: The sixth album from JK Flesh, Sewer Bait is a slo-mo, lo-fi, noise-inflected journey through the dirtier, grittier side of techno. The opening track, 'Soaked to the Skin' is a corroded, corrupted chugger - pulsing demonically, brushing against increasingly rougher textures, this is a track where everything is obscured yet each component comes together to create a groove that is intensely hypnotic. The titular track 'Sewerbait' feels more closely aligned to the industrial techno tradition - slamming drums meet searing synths to create a track that is powerfully alluring. The final track, 'Washed Up', is driven by a relentless, propulsive core - like an engine revving up, this track feels ready to take off. JK Flesh has a masterful skill for making the rough shine and highlighting the delicate amongst the rubble.

Review: Inimitable footwork titan Jlin returns for yet another challenging take on footwork and juke, Perspective. A pivotal follow-up to her 2017 album Black Origami, it comes as a comparatively terse mini-album, and consists of electronic versions of her compositions for the percussion ensemble Third Coast Percussion. Something about Perspective seems to appreciate footwork's rhythms as rhythmic "impossible shapes", owing to the genre's loose and sometimes off-kilter triplets. On the likes of 'Fourth Perspective' and 'Disonance', she seems to equate juke with minimalism, introducing Reichean additions and subtractions, not to mention a glassy, surreal timbre overall.

Review: The return of Jlin is always a cause to celebrate. In the eight short years since she first emerged, the US producer has firmly positioned herself as a fearlessly inventive, sharply focused artist who never misses. Her fourth album for Planet Mu continues her considered sonic evolution, maintaining the needlepoint percussive programming she's made her name on but broadening the source material to take in some more harmonically rich tones. As ever, you can hear a hint of footwork influence in her work but she's moved beyond obvious links to the Chicago sound, instead occupying her own space where brittle drum science can be a catalyst for rich, continually evolving electronics of the highest calibre.

Review: Between the mid 1970s and the late 1980s, Cameroonian duo J.M Tim and Foty recorded a string of killer Afro-funk albums. This superb compilation from Africa Seven shines a light on the best of the duo's early work, with each of the ten tracks recorded between 1977 and '79. There's much to set the pulse racing throughout, from the crunchy Clavinets, punchy horns and heavy grooves of opener "Douala By Night" and the rubbery disco-funk of "More and More", to the swirling, celebratory vocals, sun-kissed guitars and dazzling analogue synth solos of "Ale". Elsewhere, check the Bee Gees-in-Cameroon flex of "Funky Boogie Love" and "I Love Youande", a breezy affair with a touch of country-funk swing and an a sublime bass guitar riff.
