F&R008 Disco Dubs 2 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: F&R 008. Rel: 05 Aug 19
Deep House
  1. Disco Dub 04 (5:04)
  2. Disco Dub 05 (5:48)
  3. Disco Dub 06 (8:35)
Review: Nebraska's Friends & Relations series continues to serve up the finest disco-sprinkled house delights, following on from the previous installment of Disco Dubs with another on point reduction of dusty grooves through the mixing desk. These jams are stripped back and oh so heavy, with FX flaring in all the right places to give an eerie, trippy tint to the jams. It's like walking into the deep end of the session where Walter Gibbons jams with King Tubby uptown, and you'd be right in thinking that's a match made in far-out disco heaven.

Memories Profunda EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: FFNV 06. Rel: 31 Oct 16
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Senor Memories (9:23)
  2. Viola Profonda (10:03)
Review: Proudly positioned as a label dedicated to showcasing emerging talent within the realms of dark and dubby minimal techno, FarFromNormal return with their second release of the year. This time they're providing a platform to Nice N Trick & Sacke, who make the most of the vinyl space with two long form tracks that demonstrate just how much talent they have to offer. "Senor Memories" is a tribally-inflected experience sprinkled with off-kilter samples atop a driving techy backbone, while "Viola Profonda" steers a more streamlined course through crisp drums and nerve-jangling violin on a one way trip into the heart of the night.

A Funny Thang EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: HT 022. Rel: 27 Mar 17
Deep House
  1. A Funny Thang (6:49)
  2. Stressedout (6:46)
  3. Rising (vinyl only) (7:07)
  4. Funny Dub Ya Know (6:15)
Review: Italian duo Rufus and Mass_prod are back once again as Nightdrivers, shoring up to Holic Trax with more of their infectious club-ready material. Beyond the functionality of their drums, where the Nightdrivers excel is in their choice of samples and textures to add a psychoactive twist to their craft. "A Funny Thang" is a delightfully unhinged workout, while "Stressedout" does a fine job of digging into a heads down, RnB inflected groove. "Rising" switches things up with a broken beat groove that loads up sunkissed soul samples to great effect, and then the record rounds out with a dub mix of "A Funny Thang".

GOST 001 (hand-stamped vinyl 12")
Cat: GOST 001. Rel: 18 Mar 14
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Tevi
  2. Tebe Nujno Vernutsya
  3. Inache
  4. Ostavim
Review: Surfacing from somewhere in the Russian Federation, Gost Zvuk Records live up to their name's rough translation of Ghost Sounds on the basis of this debut release from newcomer Aleksei Nikitin. There's versatility to Nikitin's productions here that will serve him well, with the taut, subtle groove and programming on opening track "Tevi" giving the producer the space to lay down some impressively emotive melodic arrangements. The opening bars to "Tebe Nujno Vernutsya" hint that the production is heading for a weird place, yet there's a smart switch up that takes proceedings into bumping raw house with some smart vocal edits. Face down "Inache" finds Nikitin indulging in some gritty dub house whilst "Ostavim" comes from the Gerry Read school of thumping house tools.

Nobody (feat Mandar remix) (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: OSC 15. Rel: 29 Jul 19
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Nobody (8:22)
  2. Nobody (Mandar remix) (7:32)
Review: Low-slung stuff from the Nabucco label bossman, with the original just as primed for afternoon party vibes as it is the earliest morning sets. Gradually building momentum from its pared back stepping opening, soaring synth lines and subtle vocal stabs invoke the glory days of West Coast house- as smooth as it is uplifting, warm and inviting. On the flip, Mandar's remix retains most of the same elements, placing a more emphasis on the keyboard stabs and, although running for less time, has a greater sense of journey. Its dubby mid section allowing plenty of room for jazz inflected pianos to usher in smoky, chilled-out vibes in direct contrast to the punchier moments. The result is arguably even more useful that the original, and certainly something capable of pulling dancers in and not letting go.

LAHA 01 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LAHA 01. Rel: 09 Sep 19
Techno
  1. Eitt (9:37)
  2. Tvo (5:53)
  3. Thrju (9:21)
  4. Fjogur (5:50)
Review: Icelandic label Lahar debuts with this highly impressive release from NonniMal, who was previously spotted dropping the classy "Freyja" 12" on AE Recordings back in 2016. Sound design is the order of the day on "Eitt" as a beautifully rendered set of percussive bell notes chime around a minimal rhythm section - a piece pointedly geared towards transcendence. "Tvo" has an intriguing slant to its groove, as the sharply oscillating synth wobble juts out against the grain of the drums. "Thrju" takes things in a bleak but captivating direction, while "Fjogur" cools the record down in a cloud of blissful, frostbitten ambience.

Trimurti Part II: Vishnou (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: TRIMURTI 2/3. Rel: 28 Nov 16
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Vishnou 1.3 (7:37)
  2. Vishnou 2.3 (7:51)
  3. Vishnou 3.3 (7:39)
Review: We like it when labels carry on that whole mystery, hand-stamped kinda vibe because it does, in fact, add even more charm and personality to a genre with should ideally remain faceless and allow the machines to speak for themselves. This is the Trimurti label's third release to date, and NT is the enigmatic artist behind these three powerful house-techno hybrids. "Vishnou 1.3" is a bass-heavy, dubbed-out house slinger with a deep, wholesome analogue feel, while "Vishnou 2.3" adds a few breakbeats and a bit of an electro charm to its stutter, and "Vishnou 3.3" flaps a glitchy set of percussion all over a sparse and desolate landscape of melodies. This is a tidy little three-tracker that shouldn't go unnoticed, and we recommend you to pick one up fast because it's likely to fly on out of here pretty damn fast!

  11. Nicola Kazimir - "Thule" (8:18)
  12. Nicola Kazimir - "Ethernalthuledub" (STL loop 4 remix) (0:16)
Review: With a great emphasis placed on presentation and artistic statement, Swiss label Les Points has already established itself as a serious operator within the bustling minimal house and techno scene. This split release from Barbir and Nicola Kazmir is yet further proof of the ambitious intentions the label has in delivering the most creatively inspired music possible, and there is certainly plenty of music to get your teeth into here. There's twitchy house constructions aplenty to enjoy from both artists, as well as some intriguing remixes of STL loops at the end of each side in a nod to the inspirational power of the German producer, whose own leftfield leanings fit into the lineage of this release.
