Review: Cousin and Priori have joined forces for this new collaborative outing on the Canadian label Naff and it finds them serving up some delightfully artful and melodic minimal. '1' rides on a grubby, scruffy beat at high speed with some nice cosmic smears adding the vibes, and the Warm dub then makes things all watery and liquid. '2' has a bokken beat that makes you pop your body while twisted bell sounds are wrapped around the mix. An icy dub then closes out with a zoned out 5am feel and more deftness of touch.

Review: Pietro 'Peter' Macaluso has been around for some time, operating between Berlin and his native Sicily, though remarkably this is the first time his productions have been showcased on vinyl. It comes via Balance Recordings, with boss man Chez Damier acting as 'executive producer'. There's much to admire across the EP, from the suspenseful, alien electronics and slow-build groove of deep Afro-tech bubbler 'Low Pressure (Afro-Acid Mix)', and the light-touch deep house hypnotism of 'Feel Me (Deep Mix)', where DJ Ronaldo-esque synth string sounds catch the ear, to the ultra-deep techno haziness of 'Cantico (Synth Wave Mix)' and the tough, bleeping throb of 'Take It Off (Techno Mix)'.

Review: It's Time to Play says this new Italian label, and when you hear what they have put together on their first EP to entice you to do so you will be happy to get involved. It's a classy deep house outing from the off with Meftah's 'Recognizing Strength In Healing' exploring subtle sound worlds with muted chords and gentle finger clicks. Colosimo's 'It Works' (feat Alessandro Barbieri) has dancing synths and deep and dusty drums overlaid with jazzy chord work and Phonorem keeps the late-night jazz houde vibes coming with 'Hyper Dino' (feat Stefano Nardon). Two more B-side cuts round out with more classy and sophisticated house depths.

Review: Moscow label FrouFrouFrou marks its eighth release with an all-star lineup. A braggadocious cut from French DJ Dylan Dylan opens up Side A, a funk-step number with a great vocal sample. Belgium producer Hatt.D steps up next for something more sultry in 'Emotionz (Part 2)', with a quintessential 90s flare complete with 808 State Loon calls. Review: Last year, Mother Tongue Records released Madre Lingua, an album of all-star collaborations between broken beat and deep house musicians and producers helmed by Verona-based Brit Patrick Gibin. This 12" updates two of the tracks from the set, with Gibin once again to the fore. On side A, he joins forces with long-time friend and studio buddy Kaidi Tatham to remix EDB and Gary Superfly's 'Pressure'. Their tack is bouncy and synth-heavy, with spacey, out-there lead lines and intergalactic-sounding pads rising above a Maurice Fulton-as-Syclops style bassline and loose-limbed house drums. On the flip, Marc De Clive-Lowe remixes his own collaboration with Gibin and Tommasso Capelleto, 'Apollo', brilliantly joining the dots between spacey jazz-funk and ambient on a superb, beat-free 'Dreamscape' mix.

Review: It's all about the early 90s vibes on this 12" from Fauvre as four underground anthems from the era are revisited. Forty Wings Dynamo's 'Inversion' has a dubby, dreamy progressive house feel, its epic outlook and echoing percussion inevitably bringing Leftfield's first handful of 12"s to mind, before 'Raveolution' (Acid mix) brings a more jungle techno feel with sliced up breaks skittering around the four-to-the-floor kicks. Pedro Bertho's 'TOITOI' starts side two, nodding to Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams' with its soulful keys creating magic over a simple, banging techno framework before COEO's 'Vertigo' gets to work with its proto-breakbeat beats and one utterly orgasmic breakdown. Well worth a step back in time.

Review: Dirty Hands is close to double figures now and its ninth EP is another tech house triumph that pairs off Olga Kool and Per Hammar across three sweet sounds. 'Beshket' is pure dancing business with icy hi hats cutting up a hurried and garage inflected house groove that has real swing and wobbly chords all held together by mysterious bassline. 'Darth Vader' is a twisted bit of cosmic tech funk with paranoid vocals and squelching acid synths. 'Jumbotron' closes out with plenty of fat-bottomed bass and bubbly synths that are full of flavour and future tech funk.

Review: Weirdo minimal tech soul, anyone? Any takers should be directed towards this oddball release from Melchior Productions and Paul Walter. Two tracks of serious strangeness: timestretched vocals and repetitious yeahs blossom between the beat-thickets of Melchior's 'Yeah X 3', while many more percussive hits and cuts and clicks and pops and booms come courtesy of Walter's B-side, 'Xvive'. It's an impressive first foray for Maria Newyen's new imprint Scious; let's hope future 12"s stay just as weird.

Review: We're always glad to hear new material from undisputed dub techno don Steve O'Sullivan. This new one on his own Mosiac label finds him facing off with Paul Simmons on a pair of deliciously deep cuts. 'Inner Glow' is given the whole of the A-side to make its mark and it does - with a slightly more soulful sound than you might expect. Rather than pure heads down underwater deepness, it's got a heart warming vocals hook and brighter chord vamps over the signature drum smoothness. 'Still Burnin''is a quicker cut with more radiant chords and a soulful spirit, then a Bluespirit dub of the a-side zones things out nicely.

Review: Copenhagen-based Icelander Ohm and Berlin-based Philipp Priebe mine the warmest depths of dub techno here across three stumble originals. 'Flickering Lights' is silky and muted, with smooth drums and claps gliding over a cavernous groove that is subtly lit with sustained chords. The Anton Kubikov remix is more lithe and electronic, with reflective synths and nimble leads making for a minimalistic workout. There is then a shadowy but dynamic dub vibe to 'Sacred Night' before 'Roaming' rives this EP home with a mix of deft sound designs and pillow dub drums. It's brilliantly introspective.

Review: London-based Japanese artist Junki Inoue founded Saisei last year with a stunning trio of releases featuring Kino-Moderno, COLOGNe and Suzukiski. Now the label sets out a more comprehensive mission statement for the sound they're exploring with this six-deep VA release featuring return appearances as well as some new faces. The overarching sound is one of 90s-flavoured techno with a melodic, melancholic quality as beautifully demonstrated by Palomatic on the stunning 'Under The Ground'. Interferon has enough punch packed into 'Blasting Soul' to stand up to some of the foundational Detroit techno gear, but crucially it's got plenty of heart to match its weighty impact. If you want to get a handle on how Saisei is progressing, or just need some fresh techno with soul and smarts, be sure to nab one of these gems.

Review: Manchester-based producer Pach, who you may remember from his much loved 'Pull Up & Dance' anthem on Darius Syrossian's popular Moxy Muzik label last year, produces a generously proportioned four track EP for the Aesthetic stable. Take note of the title, as it dictates the contents, with the A-side's two tracks, the title track and '21 Bump Street', proving to be the definite uppers, both adding a delirious feel of disco euphoria to a sturdy tech-house framework. The flip side features the slightly darker and more mysterious cuts 'Sticky Fingers' and closer 'Six N Switch', the latter featuring the sound of some rather decadent X-rated activities in full swing. Nice work if you can get it.

Review: Back Of The Bus is always where the cool kids hung out and on the evidence of this first release that will be true of this label too. It comes with fresh and characterful artwork and minimal house beats packed with charm. Manchester-based producer Pach is the man behind them and he opens up with the bouncy 'Double Trouble' before cutting up a more tough-edged groove with '7am Start.' 'Hassle In The Castle' has a nice percolating bassline that never lets up as narcotic pads drift and smear all around and 'Stairway To Heaven' gets all trippy and late night. This is a high-quality first EP.

Made in a period of oscillation - between international DJ sets and holidays of downtime and r&r - we get the impression of a remarkably clear-headed album, with the production crisp, and the choice and placement of samples neat. On this 12", we hear the LP's first part, with the no-fuss garagey 'Hole Away' and the stabby 'Changing Channels' piquing particular interest.

Review: It's been a long time since we heard from Pangaea, one of the three famous faces who made up the original Leeds label come ubiquitous DJ's DJ's DJ imprint - Hessle Audio. Though perhaps less appreciated than his contemporaries Ben UFO and Pearson Sound, now's his time to shine again: Changing Channels is his second ever album, following up 2016's In Drum Play (which for all its quality, rough, juddering techno experiments, will always line the shelves of many a budding selector). Like its predecessor, oddball bassy techno is here Pangaea's preferred mode, whether reflected in the sassy femme vocal cutups of 'Installation' or the spitting basses of 'Squid'. This is one of two vinyl 12"s over which the album is spread; an effort to enhance its playability for DJs.

Review: Aad de Mooy is better known as Paradise 3001 and has been releasing his fulsome take on techno since the mid 90s. Blue Highway is an EP from back then, 1994 to be exact, and it has aged faultlessly because these tracks will slot into any modern set without a problem, and likely be some of the best in it, in fact. It kicks off with the warped synth and bass entanglements of 'Mind & Motion' before the more gloopy and cosmic bass of 'Ludomil 75'. It's a masterful bit of future music that's followed by the vibrant Jaydee-like 'Blue Highways' and dreamier scapes of 'The Gates Of Dawn' and progressive cosmic funk of 'Mellow Moebe.'

Review: Theo Parrish is one of those characters who manages to unite lovers of both house and techno, indeed producing offerings that seem to make the distinction utterly redundant. How does he doe it? Well, if this pair of new tracks are anything to go on, it's the simple trick of making tracks that combine the soufulness and rootsy earthiness of house with a trippy sense of the futuristic and psychedelic that elevates them out of the ordinary.
Take, for instance 'In Motion's simple piano stabs and the subsequent off kilter groove that builds up around them. Or, equally, the cheeky bass keyboard manoeuvres that form the backbone of 'Don't Play' featuring Ava, funky enough to be Stevie Wonder but then matched with caustic, scything hi-hats that have more than a hint of the surreal and robotic about them. Review: Joy Came Early or as it wants to be known JCE is a brand new imprint that signs Pelle for the first outing. The Dutch artist is also an audio engineer at Time Item Studio who has dropped heat on the likes of Picnic Records, Ovnie, Vekton Black and his own playground Karton label which he launched in 2011 with David van Bilderbeek. Here he offers the mysterious and cosmic tech house bumps of 'Slapdash Intermission' which becomes heavier and widescreen thanks to the Man/Ipulate remix. Two further originals feature on the flip with 'Double Standard' locking into a nice dynamic but zoned-out tech house sound and 'Ghosting' getting more gritty. A fine start to label life.

Review: Asher Perkins is one the seemingly endless stream of underground talents to emerge from the hallowed streets of Detroit and make it onto the world stage with their own distinctive take on the Motor City's signature sound. Here the former Minus man arrives on hometown label Beretta Grey with some fresh acid and minimal mutations. There is a subtle intensity to the scraping hits and fizzing pads of 'Your Attention Please' while 'The Chaos Proceeds' is more stripped back with gloopy synth daubs and soft shakers over a minimal drum line. 'Acid Perkins 001' finds the man layering up wonky 303 lines over his rolling tech beats.

Review: Petre Inspirescu comes through to NYC's DisDat with a sly 3-tracker detailing only the slinkiest minimal dub, the techy dance equivalent of Slinky Malinky. Operating only at night, viallike metal clanks and ominous bass booms scour the ambient wastes of 'Foc', the track's name mirroring the utterance we find jumping from our mouths on first listen. 'Si' is comparatively peaceful, while 'Para' is a dubbed-out modular afterthought; all three tracks nail an intense backend of sound, not easily achieved under normal circumstances.

Review: Soon as you drop the needle on PH Project's opener 'Blue Yellow Twist' here we guarantee you will be twisting your face in mock disc guts. The bassline is a filthy and old-school gem with organ chord stabs and spoken word snippets adding the irresistible sense of naughty house funk. DMA then bangs the box with cosmic synths and hints of 90s post-rave, Pilot System cruise on a chunky bit of bass-driven house and Frozilla & TJ go deep on far-sighted chords and bubbly bass. This is unpretentious, functional but fun house music from a small but already well-formed label.

Review: It is now well over a year since we got hyped by the first release from Phara on the Phaar label. Thankfully we are finally blessed with a second hand-stamped 12" that contains more brilliantly supple yet powerful techno. This is techno that is warm and has a real sense of machine soul no matter the mood or tempo. Things open in artful fashion before the pace picks up on 'Fleshy Part Of The Thigh' with its cantering kicks setting a heady pace while lush harmonics peel off the top. 'In Dubio' is a dub techno banger while 'Float' captures the essence of early and soulful Detroit techno in a modern framework.

There is something about a beefed-up classic or tweaked disco cut that just works when we are all at our most fun-loving. Te Pina label is here to help on that front with a tenth EP of exquisite edits. 'Morrison Hotel' is low-slung house with samples of The Doors and skewed leads all powered by a fulsome bassline. Review: Romanian breakthrough talent Pirvu has been turning heads since 2018 with releases for the likes of Rummenigge, Meander, Understory and more. Now he lands on NorthSouth with a bristling, crafty slice of minimal tech house that subdues the minimal in favour of a detailed and busy sound powered by big basslines and hooky rhythms. 'Amazonia' is a particular standout, as catchy and playful as it is serious and deadly for the dancefloor. At times you can hear a whisper of French micro house influencing his sound, but then bassline and garage rear their heads too when you hear the wild low end flex on 'Time'. The references are relative, Pirvu is doing Pirvu and it's sounding very spicy indeed.

Review: Adeen Records is on a roll right now and this time out they welcome the Detroit hero that is Marcellus Pittman for a new and beguiling four-track 12". Known for his work with The 3 Chairs collective as well as his solo jams, this Motor City mainstay opens up with 'You Always Hank Bank One Time' which is a real mental maze of rickety loops and blurts of degraded synth. 'Another Spring Lover' is another rusty and lo-fi piece of archetypal Detroit house that is very clearly machine music but with a unique sense of human soul. 'I'm Gonna Be The Everything' is a raw drum track with sparse, heartwarming chords and 'Slick Nickle Pladium Investment' is a knackered downbeat hip-hop closer. Magnificent.

Review: Legendary Detroiter Marcellus Pittman is in a surprisingly forthright mood on 'Facid Trunktion', the title track of his latest three-track excursion. While the deep and woozy touches we've come to expect are present - albeit in smaller doses than usual - what catches the ear is the fluctuating TB-303 bassline, the restlessly jazzy but driving drums, and the overall sweat-soaked feel of the whole thing. You'll find even more acid wizardry on B-side opener 'Sanskrit Body Rock', a hypnotising machine jam, while 'Ask It Acid' is a pleasingly stripped-back and mind-mangling jack-track.

Review: Taking a break from his own Deaf Test label duties, Ploy casually drops a terse three-tracker for Timedance here, returning to ravier and bassier roots. Nominally a "mission statement for the party athlete", the EP aims to defend the all-nighterers, wayward party animals and/or the ten-hour-afters-lovers, sonically suggesting that the art of the night out - nightcraft - is a fine art indeed. Or perhaps it's a lost art, hence Ploy's implicit attempt to revive it through song. Case in point: 'Crazy BBY' is the leading star, a snake-charming of unhesitant percs and giant detuned saws. 'Rose' fleshes the latter element out further, making for a clappy-happy alarma; and 'Finally' seems to suggest a quieter coda in Hessle-ific tribal drums and low-level love moans. Perhaps it's an ode to a quieter, more connected moment enjoyed among friends, towards the end of the night.
