Review: This double 12" compilation between Brazilian duo Stekke and producer and DJ Max Underson is a perfect marriage between the emotional aesthetic background of Underson's previous works and the precise floor-filling formula that Stekke has devised. The minimal composition is at the crossroads between deep, acid and tech house, with the wet basslines of 'The Messenger' being paired with ritualistic sub-bass lines culminating in house heaven. A real highlight on this release is side 4's 'Guidance', a smooth, grooving track that goes to show that house tracks don't always have to be cramped to the brim. The negative space used in these tracks, and the way it's used, is an art. Not to turn a blind eye to the two unique remixes on the compilation either, which take tracks to new heights thanks to the abstract re-imaginings by XDB and Melchior Productions Ltd. Universal Law is a schooling in the ways of minimal house, take notes.

Review: Exarde goes in 'ard with this new double 12" from a mix of new production talents. It operates the intersection of house, tech and minimal and opens with Moray's punchy 'Ghosting Fletcher,' a turbocharged and bass-driven cut before things pick up with the bouncing tech funk of Elias Sternin's 'Metalic Delay' and Aymeric's 'Not Techy Enough' which is a warped and squelchy bumper from the deepest corners of space. Elsewhere, Eliaz's 'Ndvc' impresses with a grittier sound and Sinm's 'Diskotech' is sure to bring the sweat. This is a fine pick up packed full of dancefloor fuel.

Review: The birth point of ecstasy in British music is usually credited to acid house and the second summer of love: a cemented vision of kids sweating and vibrating in clubs, fields and warehouses in 1988, united by universal empathy and mind-popping sounds. However, in 1981, a couple of young men from Leeds went to New York, discovered the drug in its infancy, fused its' gritty synth pop to acid house's squelchy 303 groove and recorded an album - Soft Cell's Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret. The rest, as they say, is history.

Review: Sushitech presents the last part of its 15th anniversary reissues series. Timeless reworks of Paul St. Hilaire & Rhauder's now classic 2018 release 'Reconstructed', featuring legendary producers such as Rominimal heroes Amorf who provide a typically hypnotic reinterpretation of Control, Dutch minimal house maestro Ion Ludwig retains the dubby elements of the original on his rework of 'Stabilized' and likewise Steve O'Sullivan remains in glacial and cavernous territory on another sublime perspective of 'Control'. Elsewhere, Thomas Melchior serves up a typically arcane venture into the deep on his version of 'Dim Dim', while the much missed Soulphiction provides the perfect majestic backdrop for St. Hilaire's amazing vocals play centre stage on his version of 'Redeem'.

Review: Marcus Lambkin aka Shit Robot has been closely tied to DFA since forever. His work embodies the label as much as anyone's and it's always nice to hear something new from him, which is what we get here. The diehard Dublin raver turned adopted New Yorker then semi-retried inhabitant of Germany serves up his first new music in some time and it's all perfectly heavy and chubby for those sweaty back rooms. The machines are raw, the vocals dark and the synths strobe-lit, just as they always were.

Review: Over the summer Skepta was teasing hints of a forthcoming track which looks set to take his superstar status even further. Amy Winehouse's influence is still felt massively across the music world - the tragedy of her story collides with her natural talent to carry a huge amount of power and that's what Skepta's drawn on sampling 'Tears Dry On Their Own' from Winehouse's classic 2006 LP Back To Black. Strapping a vocal lick from the track to an anthemic deep house production, it's a focused club workout for the UK rapper, pressed up on yellow vinyl and billed as 'A Tribute To Amy'.

Review: Kimochi Sound welcomes back regular artist Shielding for another standout entry into the label's catalogue, this time on wax with a lovely hand-sprayed sleeve. It's a deep exploration of supple rhythm here with 'Ceiling Licker' mix up diffuse ambient arps and organic sounds from the great outdoors with a bubbling bassline. 'Hundred' is a trippy late night cut with a ghostly atmosphere and muted bells and chords drifting into earshot from way off in the distance. 'Kvadrat' is a late-night collaboration with Maeteriet from Sewer Sender Records that overlays a rubbery minimal rhythm with deft synth details and curious hooks to make for dark but ultimately charming listening.

Review: Since releasing his debut single way back on 2005, Stil vor Talent founder Oliver Koletzki has become a prolific remixer. Here he gathers together some of his favourite revisions on one handy, DJ-friendly 12". Intriguingly, some of the standout moments are a little breezier, deeper or more melodious than you'd perhaps expect - see the bongo-driven bliss of the Koletzki & Schwind "Camps Bay" fix-up - but even this picturesque excursion is still 100% dancefloor-ready. Somfay goes it alone to start with on the far-sighted and zoned-out house of 'Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water). Luc Ringeisen & Funk E then link up for 'Treinta Y Siempre' which is a lithe and sleek electro-tinged rhythm with lovely downbeat bass notes and more uplifting melodic patterns. Review: The always classy Movida calls upon Franco Cinelli, Neuronal Network and Sasha Dive for this new outing, which takes a deep dive into smooth techno with plenty of healthy Motor City overtones. Cinelli goes first with 'Eternal Chat' which rides on deep and supple drums with deft synths peeling off the groove. Neuronal Network's 'Basic' is a textbook dub techno cut with frosty chord vamps and icy hi-hats over super deep kicks. Review: Berlin-based Bright Sounds is a prime example of quality over quantity, dropping its first release in a year and making it count by inviting the mighty Skudge on board. If the Swedish techno project has always marked itself with an affinity for the instinctive groove of house, this record goes further into that idea with tracks which could easily slot into a rolling tech house session as much as a funked up techno warm-up. 'Tension' capitalises on off beat dub techno chords as the magic ingredient for a flawless, looped up trip. 'Basement' is a deeper affair, but no less focused on the subtle swing on the drums as a framework for those metallic synth strokes. 'Rounds' on the B-side is a more swirling affair which gets honed into a sleeker chassis for the attendant 'Dub' version.

Review: Voodoos & Taboos unveil their anticipated new LPs series with Human Aventura, the debut self-titled album from the promising Corsican producer. An unusual dance release modelling itself on electro and chiptune, but finding itself somewhere in the hidden interstice between them, this is a self-described "libidinous Mediterranean spoken disco" album, giving elements of Telex or Kraftwerk, albeit with a progressive bent best heard on pithy cuts 'Solid State Scouter'. Not one to be missed for those who like it intelligent, fidgety and FMmy.

Review: Innervisions has always dealt in a sophisticated sound - slow-burning grooves, classy melodies unhurried moods that take time to have their effect but really make an indelible impression when they do. This tidy new EP from Skatman is a perfect embodiment of that philosophy - opener 'Oldskool' rides screen synths and undulating serums, eventually working you into a trance with its vocal mutterings and cosmic rays. 'What You Gonna Do' is more lively, but still the vast kick drums land at their own un-rushed pace. 'Optical Illusion' echoes early Detroit techno soul with its smart synths smears and a couple of raw jackers then closes out the flip side.

Review: San Diego's Tabby Traxx is back with a second release that will again jack the club. This one is a debut from Steezy Ray Vaughan that blends old school acid into new school tools. 'Stalker' opens with a heavy drum stomp and eerie one-note melodies then Matt's Creepin' mix brings a lashing of acid madness over sci-fi tech drums. 'Flashback' has a more undulating and deep acid feel as the 303 is drawn out over razor sharp hi hats and rolling drums. 'Flashback' (Mike's Vox edit) has a little more menace for those freaky late-night after parties.

Review: Morpheus has done the work of the record digging gods here (and on a couple of other reissue EPs) by putting together a trio of next level cuts that are nearly impossible to find should you go looking yourself. They come from Sound of the Suburbs aka Paul Stubbs and Pete Hurst. It was back in 2002 that they began turning out essential tech house sounds and a year later they were done after just three EPs. This 12" offers up their sleek and infectious 'Beautifly' (Chicago Sleeps mix), the grittier and more stripped back 'Love, Innit?' and 'The Club Is Open' which might be the best of the lot with its low slung and well swung drums and bass and moody chords.

'Beautifly' kicks off and is a perfect intersection of dub, tech and house with smartly programmed drums and weighty low ends kept nimble by sleek synths and samples. The energy levels are raised on 'All You Need' which has more percussion, more peaky little synth motifs and a more potent rhythm while 'Organ Transplant' then slows down a touch and brings a squeaky and alien bassline to some piano laced grooves.

Review: Sidney Charles prides himself on making chunky house music that is raw but underpinned by a slick sense of swing. His Heavy House Society label is where most of it arrives but now he takes a detour to Nick Curly's long-running Cecille. 'Sonar Plexus' is irresistible European house music with razor sharp hi-hats, synth curlicues to soften the edges and precise drum work. 'Universal Highway' has a retro 90s feel - a sense of rushing endorphins and bobbing drum breaks that get hands in the air and 'Fearless' then gets liquid and funky with its effervescing rhythms and tumbling synth sequences. 'Turnover' closes out with a soulful US house feel and completes one of Charles's best-ever EPs.

Review: Leading the way for minimal sounds in their hometown of Venice, Caposile present the second volume of their The Sound Of Garden series with another four high-quality workouts aiming at the subtler kind of dancefloor. Mihai Pol is up first with 'Sugar Rush', a trippy delight with bouncy bass and shimmering synths garnished with an iconic sample. Francesco Maddalena ups the tempo and creates a swirling dream of garage house-meets-jazzy ambient that should grease up the dancers a treat. Giuliano Lomonte locks in for a heady ride through gated chords and teasing patterns with elegance at their core, and Sublee drops something rougher with the old-skool stylings of 'Day Six', a boxy jam that would sound right at home on Nu Groove.

Review: South Atoms is an artist from Argentina who brings plenty of Latin flair to this new EP on In Waves. The artwork conveys the underwater fluidity of the opener 'Bersine' which is a rolling and deep tech cut with delicate melodies sprinkled up top next to shards of piercing synth light. 'El Mundo De Las Cosas' picks up the pace with more slapping tech funk and shimmering chords. It is on 'Persea' that things slow down a little with humid pads and tropical vibes over the deep rolling kicks. Review: SIT returns to Amphia with a new release; 'Urban Chronicles' is comprised of four tracks, each with its own distinctive sound reminiscent of early techno and house, especially their dreamier sides. The A launches in full swing with 'Synth City', a colorful, groovy tune, where in which vocal elements and airy synth lines blend together seamlessly. 'Dreamworx' continues in much the same fashion, adding an introspective counterpoint; finally, 'Parallel Pulses' and 'Fabricated Odyssey' make up the B-side, coming quirky and syncopated, with heavy bass lines and lively percussions. More than any other release from the catalogue, Amphia 025 is an exploration of pure instinct and emotion.

Review: Japan's Thinner Groove flesh out their distinctive aesthetic with every new release. This time around, they welcome none other than Lemmi Ash, KOOLMFL and Sonic Weapon for a collaborative three-track EP of lowercase minimal tech and textural vignettes. The aim of the game is best encapsulated in the label's commentary: "each track can add a distinctive touch to the night, as like completing your cocktail with lemon and/or lime". Each track indeed sounds to the ear akin to how a fruity garnish tastes, with Ash's 'Presence' bringing tart citrine breaks notes to a gracefully held glass vessel. KOOLMFL's 'Atonbow' is drier bitters, barely availing itself of its trembling chords and sampled vox after an ultra-snappy initiation featuring a mere bass and kick-clap. Thinner Groove know all too well that good music is like an excitation of the flavour palate, and that minimality is the thing that lets such flavours sit.

Review: Sous-vide, as you may well know, is a method of cooking in which food is sealed in plastic and submerged in water at around 60 degrees. It results in mouthwateringly moist joints of meat and these minimal joints are just as deliciously prepared. 'Meander' manages to be deep yet driving, with muffled but punchy kicks and wispy synths really making their mark. 'Hallucine' is perfectly crisp and kinetic minimal tech, and closer 'Freedom Of Split' is a tech cut with thumping kicks designed to rock intimate back rooms. This is functional but fun and emotive tackle for sure.
