Endangered Species Vol 1
Cat: DE 262. Rel: 18 Sep 20

Coldwave/Synth
John King - "Munich" (4:18)
The Actor - "Picture 210" (demo) (3:31)
Brazil - "Tvoj Svijet" (3:41)
Jamal Khe - "L'Etranger (Ana Gharib)" (4:38)
Nightless - "Abemus Mind" (6:01)
Review: In eleven years of deep digging, Dark Entries has uncovered many curiosities, lone exemplars of the scarsest breeds. They are lurking in Croatia, on the streets of New York, maybe in the back of your own dusty closet - these odd-ball Italo and synth-wave monsters are too rare to live, too divine to die. Once-lost creatures now have a home with Dark Entries' new Endangered Species series. The inaugural edition features five specimens previously deemed extinct, only mentioned passingly in lore and speculation, but now safely preserved on vinyl.

Electro
Leather Forever (5:26)
Nightlife (3:41)
Miss Crazy Bullshit (4:47)
Loving The Alien (4:19)
Review: It's been some six years since Caroline "Miss Kittin" Herve and Michel "The Hacker" Amato last delivered fresh material together. While we await further news of their long-mooted comeback, there's this tasty EP of previously unheard archive material to enjoy. Made up of tracks recorded between 1997 and '99 - when their production partnership was in its' infancy - The Lost Tracks Volume 1 contains a number of fuzzy, stylish, floor-friendly bangers, from the S&M-themed madness of opener "Leather Forever" and stripped-back electro gem "Nightlife" (a tribute to Berlin clubs of the period, apparently), to the high-tempo acid-loaded freakishness of "Loving The Alien". Top-notch sleaze.

Parasuicide (4:14)

Lost In The 20th Century (3:16)
Review: We love Talking Drums. At the core, they are simply our type of band. An album, a few EPs, and then disappear before the scene kicks off and becomes commercialized. Boxes all well and truly ticked. The early 80s were a period of change what with punk music evolving into post-punk, and while the nu-romantic fashion that came to prominence in the mid 80s was a national movement, it was bands like Talking Drums which initiated it. Thanks to the ever-reliable Dark Entries, we now get to enjoy their best single, Courage, in all its glory - and it sounds like it's been pressed up properly, too! All you need to know at this point, if you haven't come across this already, is that it's one of the best disco-not-disco singles you'll ever cop...and we don't have a favourite tune...they're all equally raw, drum-heavy, house-envisioning, and utterly addictive. Hotly tipped!

Electro
Morning Light (6:17)
Sun (8:04)
War Zone (4:05)
Lord (7:06)
Product Of My Environment (5:14)
Slippery Slope (5:31)
Review: Tel Aviv born, Berlin based duo TV.OUT make their Dark Entries debut with a 6-track EP titled 'Dust Till Dawn' out Black Friday 2019. Doron Mastey Charly & Ori Itshaki have made a name for themselves the past few years putting on impressive live sets, DJing around the world, and running Parallax Records releasing various strains of rugged, well informed electronic music. Clocking in at 36 minutes this collection moves in hot pursuit of their two previous EPs for L.I.E.S. Side A opens with the metallic hi-hats of "Morning Light" that echoes early Euro/Goa techno-EBM sound to the 8-minute sleek, pounding industrial darkroom vibes of "Sun" and closes with the titanium-tipped 808 warped electro of "War Zone". Side B leads off with the heavy New Beat scorcher "Lord", a song we first heard on a mix from Cardopusher and knew we had to release. Then comes "Product Of My Environment" a slow-motion mutant menace that flows into the final song "Slippery Slope" a classic West Coast of The Hague '90s style electro perfectly suited for complete dance floor drama. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in jacket designed by Eloise Leigh with black-white-red apocalyptic vibes and bold type.

Review: Dark Entries are back with more of that sweet, sweet goth sauce in the shape of Topographies. The San Francisco band have been building up a following for their faithful tribute to sad-eyed synth-pop and new wave from the early 80s, releasing an album in 2020 on Funeral Party as well as a single for Sonic Cathedral. It's not hard to pick out the influences, and it all makes sense when you learn Gray Tolhurst is the son of The Cure's Laurence Tolhurst. They're not simply aping another band's sound though and if you can't get enough of that quintessential goth rock sound, you're going to love this record.

Review: Boris Blank and Carlos Peron launch their Tranceonic moniker, and it comes through on the effortlessly cool Dark Entries stable, home to what we would say are the best electronic releases of the last five years. No pressure, then. New Crime is a difficult LP to pin down, or to even begin categorizing under one banner, with each track offering a different and equally delightful strain of electronic psychedelia. To give you a taste, the duo craft their own take on Yello's infamous "Bostisch" killer, which quickly dissipates into the more sparse, imperceptible drum and synth cocktails of tunes like "Police Action In Zurich" or "America Is Happy". Don't worry, though, there's plenty of dance grooves for you to get stuck into, such as the deep ad wonderful "Butterfly". It's a keeper.

Review: Trek With Quintronic are the duo of Paul Wilcox (Trek) and David Kane (Quintronic). Formed from the ashes of prog rock band Masque in 1979, they moved from Buffalo, NY to New Hope, PA with contacts in the Philadelphia music scene. They recorded two pioneering albums of unique electronic rock, "Landing" from 1980, and the self-titled follow-up "Trek With Quintronic" LP in 1981. "Landing Plus" compiles the complete discography of Trek With Quintronic on a double vinyl for the first time in over 30 years.

The band utilized a synthesizer-heavy set up using a Roland CompuRhythm CR-78 drum machine, Yamaha CS-60, Minimoog, effect pedals and guitar. All songs on the album are strictly electronic sounds, no piano or organ. Trek With Quintronic wrote songs with a powerful sound, myriads of compositional ideas, synthetic noises and catchy melodies. Paul's rather unique vocals lie somewhere between David Bowie and Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs. This deluxe edition has been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. LP 1 is the "Landing" LP and LP 2 is the "Trek With Quintronic" LP. Each double LP set comes in a gatefold sleeve with 2 postcards featuring live photos, an instrument list and quotes. This collection highlights a lost duo with a big sound on par with Ultravox, Human League, OMD or Devo.

Review: Trisomie 21 are a post punk band formed in 1981 by two brothers from the North of France. Their music consists of lush soundscapes that do not easily fit into any one category. Musically their mood is melancholic and one can hear traces of Joy Division, Durutti Column and The Cure. In early 1982, they set out to record their first album. They then sent out a demo tape and Stechak offered them a deal - resulting in the mini-LP Le Repos des Enfants Heureux, which was was released in January 1983. This reissue on Dark Entries features the original five compositions, in addition to four demos never before released on vinyl. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley and the LP is housed in a replica of the original jacket featuring a black and white collage by Nadia Zibirskaia. Since 1983, the Lomprez brothers have recorded 15 albums and appeared on numerous compilations and remain active to this day.

Review: Trisomie 21 are a post punk band formed in 1981 by the Lomprez brothers from the North of France. Their music consists of lush soundscapes that do not easily fit into any one category. The five song mini LP 'Wait & Dance' was released by PIAS sub-label Scarface in September 1985. It contained the band's first female guest vocals on two of the tracks. Featured are five remixes as bonus tracks here presented for the first time ever on vinyl. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The LP is housed in a replica of the original jacket, featuring a artwork by Sourdeval and includes a photo postcard featuring lyrics and notes. Musically their mood is melancholic and one can hear traces of Joy Division, Durutti Column and The Cure. Since 1983, they've recorded 15 albums, appeared on numerous compilations and remain active to this day.
