Review: It's been a while since the Albion stable graced our platters, but they're back in style with more of that on-point house music voodoo for the heat of the night. This single is a vessel for the various sides of Tommi Vicari Jr, who rolls out his Czevski alias to deliver a bruising remix of "57 Hertz" by 76-79. It's a reverb-soaked, dubbed out affair with a rock solid rhythm section and plenty of trippy FX tweaking on top. On the flip it's a different story with a similar feeling as we get the straight up Tommi Vicari Jr material in the shape of two killer tracks crafted for transcendental moments of dancefloor hypnosis.

Review: The Fourier label is back with more minimal dance floor magic, and the second release is a collaborative affair packed with talent. It's Aztec, Dark Male, Rob Bellfield and The Vast Profound who all come through here and start off with 'Sweet Music', a nice balmy and dubby cut for zoned out listening .'Unlimited Apex' pairs pensive basslines with smeared and expansive pads, then 'Standard Model' has a more warped and mind-melting cosmic take on warm, deep rolling tech. 'Silence After The Storm' is the gorgeously serene closer. Classy stuff for sure.

Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Review: Last year, Mother Tongue Records released Madre Lingua, an album of all-star collaborations between broken beat and deep house musicians and producers helmed by Verona-based Brit Patrick Gibin. This 12" updates two of the tracks from the set, with Gibin once again to the fore. On side A, he joins forces with long-time friend and studio buddy Kaidi Tatham to remix EDB and Gary Superfly's 'Pressure'. Their tack is bouncy and synth-heavy, with spacey, out-there lead lines and intergalactic-sounding pads rising above a Maurice Fulton-as-Syclops style bassline and loose-limbed house drums. On the flip, Marc De Clive-Lowe remixes his own collaboration with Gibin and Tommasso Capelleto, 'Apollo', brilliantly joining the dots between spacey jazz-funk and ambient on a superb, beat-free 'Dreamscape' mix.

Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. Over on side B, Grizzly Knuckles' 'Mad Bell' - a breathless, house tempo techno workout built around a nagging synth-bell loop - is followed by label regular The Jak's 'Aftermath', which sits somewhere between jacking lo-fi techno, UK funky and stab-happy Soca-house.

Review: It's all about the early 90s vibes on this 12" from Fauvre as four underground anthems from the era are revisited. Forty Wings Dynamo's 'Inversion' has a dubby, dreamy progressive house feel, its epic outlook and echoing percussion inevitably bringing Leftfield's first handful of 12"s to mind, before 'Raveolution' (Acid mix) brings a more jungle techno feel with sliced up breaks skittering around the four-to-the-floor kicks. Pedro Bertho's 'TOITOI' starts side two, nodding to Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams' with its soulful keys creating magic over a simple, banging techno framework before COEO's 'Vertigo' gets to work with its proto-breakbeat beats and one utterly orgasmic breakdown. Review: "Dubb Me Some'tin Fresh" first appeared on wax way back in 2001, as part of Halo, Hipp-E and Tony's first outing for YoshiToshi under the 6400 Crew alias. It remains one of their strongest cuts; a dark, sweaty and trippy fusion of tribal drums, acid bass and dub-house sensibilities. This reissue contains the freshly re-mastered original version, plus a trio of tasty new reworks. Deep Dish man Sharam steps up first, emphasizing the dub-influenced elements on a big room version that strips back the original's dense tribal drums without sacrificing any energy. In contrast, Sinisa Tamamovic's remix is loose and more tribal-minded, while Hector opts for more acid lines and heavier sub-bass on his big room-friendly interpretation.

Review: Jumpin' & Pumpin' looks back into the seminal archives of The Future Sound of London here to reissue their fantastic The Pulse EP from 2008 which also featured tunes from Manchester pair Indo Tribe. It is they who start with 'Bring In The Pulse' which features some Happy Mondays hallelujahs, mad rave whistles and bristling electronic breaks. 'In The Mind Of A Child' (First Born mix) is then a bouncy techno cut with more visceral synth and acid lines and The Future Sound Of London kick off the flipside with 'Hardhead' (Frothin' At The Mouth mix) which is an assault of breaks, congas, whistles and rave signifiers. 'Pulse State' (831 AM mix) is that perfect tune to zone out to on a late night drive on the motorway.

Review: We've been enjoying the first few volumes of Selador Recordings's Magic Black Plastik series and this fourth one keeps the quality levels high. It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

The bassline is a filthy and old-school gem with organ chord stabs and spoken word snippets adding the irresistible sense of naughty house funk. Review: Serial collaborator Romain "Traumer" Reynaud is at it again, this time joining forces with fellow Parisian producer Gregory "Point G" Dorsa for a three-track workout on INFUSE. The experienced duo predictably hits its stride from the word go, serving up some swinging rhythms, hypnotic sub-bass and Salt & Pepa samples on peak-time tech-house box jam "Push It". There's a more percussive and slightly glitchy feel to the bongo-laden "Modulation Tropique", while banging B-side "Locoliente" feels like the kind of bouncy tech-house floorfiller that Sheffield sorts Swag used to do so well in their early 2000s pomp.

Review: Here's a massive collaboration from two titans of house music, albeit spanning different generations. Riva Starr and Todd Terry are both legends in their own right, and they team up for this partnership on Hot Creations which is all about no-nonsense, big room pressure for the peak time crowd. 'This Is The Sound' is a whole heap of fun, with classic samples and stabs thrown around the mix on top of a sexy, bass-heavy groove. 'Creators' is clearly a nod to house's Chicago roots as the pair get into a Trax strain of acid that's seriously gnarly, the 303 tweaked to its very limits and then tweaked some more. For those wanting to get freaky in the mix with that same 303, there's also an 'Acidapella' thrown in for good measure.

The Robot Dance Connection's 'Powers Of Ten' (R2d2 live edit) kicks off side one, shiny high frequency polish played off against a gorgeously stubborn techno beat, before the slinkier and smoother 'Gold Saucer' by Brunzi offers an equally danceable but less angular counterpoint. Flip it over and Tomska's 'Lethal Overdose' (Touch dub 2022) offers rushing sonics, off kilter snare damage and four to the floor thump, before Emile's 'Jeu Froid' completes the set in grimy basement style.

Review: It is now more than two years since Planet Tapes launched out of Italy and this is only the label's third release, but the wait is more than worth it. IT is Italian Domenico Rosa who kicks off with a brilliantly lush and melodic house workout that has as much old school influence as it does future soul. Deyayu's 'Asthatwhatis' sinks into a deeper, more late night vibe with strident drums and rolling bass but nice crisp claps and heady ambient synths. There is an irresistible playfulness to Two Opposites's 'Tropical Aurora' that really swells the heart while Eros closes down with 'Phased Energy' which is all glassy and celestial melodies over light breakbeats.

Review: T.A.C. was a collaboration between John Beer and Chris McCormack, the latter being a prolific techno producer throughout the early 2000s under aliases such as UK Gold. This was their only release at the turn of the millennium, on Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic imprint, reissued here on Frankfurt's Rawax. There's groovy UK tech house reminiscent of the early noughties on A-side cut 'Spit Roast', while over on the flip the minimal funk of 'Game On' is reminiscent of early Daniel Bell, plus there's the funky tribal groove of 'Snatch'.

Review: Making no bones about his sources of inspiration, Rotterdam-based DJ and producer Mitchel Polderman directs his Tafkamp alias to a wholesale ghetto house / Dance Mania aesthetic right down to the centre label. Tracks like 'Twerk Dat Shit' and 'Drive Me Crazy' have all the moves you'd expect from some proper Chicago early 90s gear, but Polderman's sound has a slicker modern finish which sets it apart from the OG material. There are six tracks on this release, and they all channel legends like DJ Deeon et al, with a pitched down sample of Peaches thrown in for good measure.

Review: Recently Norm Talley launched a new label, Upstairs Asylum, and delivered a much-needed sequel to his superb 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. A decade on from the record's original release, he's finally got around to producing a sequel. The native Detroiter predictably starts in fine fashion via 'Gonna Luv U', a chunky and locked-in house number rich in groovy bass, bold piano motifs, ear-cathing sax riffs and colourful P-funk samples, before heading ultra-deep via the beatdown-influenced haziness of 'Detroit Dubz'. 'In Your Soulz' sees him add energy-packed hand percussion and chiming lead lines to a bustling deep house beat, while 'Digital XTC (Detroit Mix)' is a spacey, hypnotic workout that sounds like it was tailor-made for dark warehouses in the hours approaching dawn.

Review: You'll struggle to find any deeper or more alluring tracks in Norm Talley's catalogue than 'Powder', the wonderfully hypnotic, locked in and subtly spacey opener from the Motor City producer's 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. It's a good thing, then, that Talley has decided to reissue the sought-after EP on his own label. The Detroiter doesn't put a foot wrong throughout, with the chugging, beatdown-inspired brilliance of 'Lost', which boasts some sublime piano solos, and the up-beat hustle of 'Private Party' being equally as essential as 'Powder'. Speaking of that track, Delano Smith's 'More Powder' version is also worth a listen, featuring as it does slightly bolder synth riffs and a tougher, techno-influenced groove.

Review: Anonymous label Tartan kicks off with two tracks that should pique the interest of anyone who seeks out unusual swerves to spice up their DJ sets. On the A side, 'Took My Heart Away' fuses uncanny sounds from rolling thunder to South Asian vocals, strapped to a brooding beat that should be compatible with the chugging crowd. The Purple Wave EP is her debut and features four energetic cuts, plus a remix. The A-side features the acid soaked uplifting house journey 'Take Me Up' followed by more jackin' 303 power in the form of 'Sierra Nevada'. Over on the flip, said remix comes from the one-and-only Mr G who turns in a steely, industrial-edged rendition of the first track in his inimitable style, followed by one more stomper that's properly geared for those heads-down moments on the dancefloor in the form of 'OMZ'.

Review: The Soul Clap label that was once so hype has admirably rolled on once the headlines passed and anyone not checking in on it since then has been losing out, frankly. Just get your ears around this new release from Tatie Dee for a start - it is a stylish six tracker though warm and bumping house with real heart. 'Nuit D'Menil' kicks off with lush late night chords and slick broken beats and from there things get more heavy and big with 'Bed & Break Fast' and then a Black Loops remix takes it into late night territory. 'I Wasn't Born In 1937' has a classic 90s vocal house feel and is brilliant and '16 Swing-71' brings jazz, Chicago and swing to another characterful cut before a darker, harder Belaria remix.

The respected local DJ and some time Back to basics regular has had outings on the likes of Butter Side Up and aways brings the electronic funk, as he does again on 'Middle of The Road.' It's a clipped, kinetic cut with swirling ambient pads and a gritty vibe, then 'Harvest' is all about floaty light minimal loops that suspend you in space. Review: Rawax lock in a new one from TIJN that adds three more functional but fresh house tracks to their already estimable catalogue. This one kicks off with the silky and seductive, bendy and elastic neon synth sounds of 'Lost Language' which has rock solid drums bringing the drive. Review: The good folks at Salon have got some more signature acid weirdness out of Tin Man here with the new single 'Shooting Stars'. It's a slow-motion and druggy downtempo pop lullaby with pensive spoken word mutterings. Elsewhere the Monkey Nenufar Vata remix of 'Electric Blue' is a rather mid-tempo roller with a playful rhythm, fleshy drums and meandering acid lines next to distant pads that are delightfully catchy. It becomes more dubbed out and minimal on the A2 then Tobias layers up crispy drum breaks and silvery hits on his remix of 'Love Sickness.' A varied and vital EP for sure.

Review: Since launching two years ago, Bristol's We're Going Deep label has consistently delivered some of the deepest and most atmospheric club tracks around. The music they champion is, as many in the West Country would no doubt confirm, "proper deep". That's certainly the case with the tracks on the label's seventh multi-artist extravaganza. Acid Test regular Tin Man kicks things off with a touch of TB-303-doused proto-house minimalism ('I Said Acid'), before Rai Scott takes us 50 leagues below the sea on the ultra-deep, drowsy and hypnotic house cut 'I'll Meet You on the Dancefloor'. Review: Robot Says A is a stunning EP that showcases the dub techno skills of Jukka Hanninen aka TM Shuffle, a Finnish producer who has been making waves in the scene since 2012. The four tracks on this vinyl are all deep and atmospheric, with lush pads, subtle melodies and crisp rhythms. 'Moonset' is a dreamy and hypnotic track with a soothing vocal sample and a warm bassline, followed by the more upbeat Infinity' an energetic track with a catchy synth hook and a driving groove. Over on the flip, 'Kupliva' is a collaboration with another Finnish dub techno artist, Monoder, and it features a swirling and spacey sound with some glitchy effects. Finally, 'Echo' is a minimal and dubby track with a sparse and haunting vibe.

Review: Ron Moreli's famously sleazy LIEs welcomes back one of its regular artists in Lipelis, this time with his TMO project alongside extra goodness from keyboardist Eugene Piankov. The pair really go for it from the off, with anthemic house stomper 'Goes D Jam' offering up squealing 303 and 909s that ring out into the cosmos over crunchy drums. '112 Bright Jam' is slower, deeper, more heartfelt with its tender piano chords and 'Goes C Jam' is an acid laced piano celebration. Review: Moscow-based deep techno artist Toki Fuko arrives on Russian label Luck of Access with three cerebral tracks forming his glittering new EP, 'Sanctum'. Starting with the expanding and contracting spaciousness of the title track, 'Sanctum', Korotaev allows space for reverberating synthlines to extend outwards, skittering into the distance across the pulsating core of the track, exploring a reflective space that feels at once private and collective. For the second side, everything slows down to a patient, meditative pace. Luxuriating in a moment of slowed breathing, 'Draft' unfolds in a series of exhaling atmospheres, delicately punctuated with strokes of light, glistening on the surface of a rippling body of water. The final track, 'Drift', moves downstream, driven by a winding ambience and decorated with flurries of unravelling organic percussion. At the heart of each of these tracks is a force that feels eternal, held in undulating patterns that continue long beyond their end.

Review: Tom Wax has been knocking out high quality tunes at a high rate of knots for many years on all manner of influential labels. This time out he steps up with a one-sided and banging 12" for Plastic City in the same month that a bunch of remixes of the same single also appear. The original is all gurgle acid lines, yelping vocals and pure rave-techno energy. The arrangement fizzes and spits and is overloaded with lo-fi fuzz which only adds to the sense of rush as you get lost in the beats. A devastating cut for sure.

Review: Toureua's 'Telecommande' (which is French for remote control) is a perfectly uplifting tune that layers in smart trance elements over sleek drums. On the Martin Matiske interpretation, the melodies call to mind the perfect early work of Kraftwerk and the textured bass has hints of 80s magic. All in all, it is smooth and serene and perfect for lift-off whether in high summer or the darkest winter. The original is a little more doleful but no less emotive and then a Felix Bernhardt remix gets heavy and Vicky Montefusco opts for an eerie late-night vibe.

Review: No CCTV captures plenty of dancefloor pleasures with this new EP from Trajano. It's a retro future blend of breaks, tech, minimal and something a little freaky that kicks off with the mysterious leads and hurried drums of 'Aquela La' (feat Villaca). 'Praiana' spins out on some lithe breakbeat programming with muted acid lines dancing in the spaces left behind and jazzy keys up top. 'Canal X' then keeps it more stripped back and deep and 'Flip!' is superbly designed and kinetic. Squelchy synth funk off-sets the stiff and rigid snares that snap over punchy kicks. A real bit of dynamite.

Deep House
Review: Finnish house kingpin Trevor Deep Jnr always lives up to his name when crafting beats. He does so on a range of crucial labels and here it is an EP of tunes taken from his latest full-length that we're treated to on HPTY. There is a serenity and beauty to opener 'Culpa' that soon casts a spell. 'Come Alive' (feat Niko Marks) then breaks out on prickly broken beats that are brilliant raw as a soulful vocal rings out up top. There is more classy broken beat dub deepness on 'Broken Dreams' which is again defined by a great vocal sample and then Brawther offers one of his textbook stripped-back but bouncy dubs to open the flip side. Two further jams explore misty-eyed house depths in style.

Review: Is A Feeling follows up its debut 12" with a classy and varied house offering from Triform. It kicks off with some old school and jacked-up sounds on 'Not For Radio' where analogue drums, silvery cowbells and ticking hi-hats get you in a sweat. Then it's a more drum-led and low-slung affair on the swinging 'Dub 3'. 'Mr Chr$ (65)' shows this artist's range as things become more stripped back and tech-inclined, with silky drum loops and watery droplets backed by diffuse chord work. 'Timeless Groove' then heads back to the old school with lush piano chords and sustained pads bringing the good times.

Review: The second release on Lempuyang comes courtesy of Tomoki Tsukamoto. In the late 90s Tomoki put out releases on Gez Varley's G Records, i220, and of course ran his own Metrojuice Records imprint; putting out some of the most sought-after deep & dubby techno records under his alias W-Moon. After a hiatus of over 20 years he now returns with four new tracks under his own name, still retaining that deep signature sound.

Review: Small Hours from the Berlin-based Brit Youandewan is a young and already cult label that does things well, if not fast. Yet here we get a second EP in quick succession with the sixth outing again offering up four vital names from the house and tech underground. Velvet Velour opens up with squelchy, funky bass on 'Show You The Door' before Liquid Earth melts the mind with impossibly bendy synths and stiff drums on 'Gummo Hardrive.' Flip this 12" over and you'll find some cosmic tech in the form of The Honda Boys's 'Funghi Pie' and gurgling, gritty, metallic deep space house from Dreaming Mind who offers up 'Mid-Bozz.' Top tackle for sure.

From stirring orchestral suites to high octane DSP, it's an expansive listening experience that shows Middleton pushing himself into new terrain in the studio. Whether you tie it back to the prior material or not, it's a towering piece of work from an elder statesman of UK electronica.

Review: San Fran's unstoppable and enduring tech house craftsman John Tejada is also super reliable. His sound is well established, but he always does enough with each new release to embellish it a little further. Returning now to his home label of Kompakt, he refines his palette to silky melodies, fuzzy pads and crisp beats that are superbly pleasing for both your ears and your heels. 'Sheltered' is a particularly classy cut of deft tech minimalism, 'Spectral Progressions' expires ambient broken beats with lush pad work and 'Panacea' picks up the pace in scintillant fashion. This might be his best work in years.
