Sepp - "Cabot Cave" (6:11)
Vlad Arapasu - "Compostella" (7:23)
Swoy - "After" (7:56)
Ted Amber - "Erutun" (8:16)
Review: Yecad Music launch their mission into the minimal world with a strong first showing from a varied cast of operators that mark this label out as one to watch. Sepp leads the way with the jazz-inflected, intricate patterns of 'Cabot Cave', while Vlad Arapaho has a knottier, techy offering by way of 'Compostella'. Swoy has a more melodic, organic-sounding approach on 'After' and Ted Amber taps into that hypnotic Arpiar style for the deep-diving 'Erutun', rounding off a sophisticated EP for those who like their grooves stripped back and undulating.

Marrakesh (9:40)
Marrakesh (Mushrooms Project remix) (8:17)
Review: Triptique Musique lands on Whiskey Pickle with this exotic new single 'Marrakesh.' It is one that very much transports you directly to the city itself thanks to its lush and authentic sounds. A wailing vocal is the centre point and a real call to the dance floor with exotic Eastern melodies and organic percussive sounds peppering the elongated mid-tempo rhythm. Flip it over and you will find a remix from the legendary Mushroom Project which brings even more trippy sounds and rich layers of transcendental synth that will sweep you off your feet.

Tin Man - "I Said Acid" (7:08)
Rai Scott - "I'll Meet You On The Dancefloor" (7:06)
Sound Synthesis - "Necessary Order" (6:01)
Roger Van Lunteren - "Le Dee Trois Trio Prends Trois" (4:18)
Review: Since launching two years ago, Bristol's We're Going Deep label has consistently delivered some of the deepest and most atmospheric club tracks around. The music they champion is, as many in the West Country would no doubt confirm, "proper deep". That's certainly the case with the tracks on the label's seventh multi-artist extravaganza. Acid Test regular Tin Man kicks things off with a touch of TB-303-doused proto-house minimalism ('I Said Acid'), before Rai Scott takes us 50 leagues below the sea on the ultra-deep, drowsy and hypnotic house cut 'I'll Meet You on the Dancefloor'. Over on side B, Sound Synthesis's 'Necessary Order' is a simply breath-taking trip into deep electro territory, while Roger Van Lunteren's EP-closing contribution is a deep (and deeply psychedelic) acid house trip.

Gonna Luv U (5:16)
Detroit Dubz (7:24)
In Your Soulz (8:29)
Digital XTC (Detroit mix) (4:14)
Review: Recently Norm Talley launched a new label, Upstairs Asylum, and delivered a much-needed sequel to his superb 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. A decade on from the record's original release, he's finally got around to producing a sequel. The native Detroiter predictably starts in fine fashion via 'Gonna Luv U', a chunky and locked-in house number rich in groovy bass, bold piano motifs, ear-cathing sax riffs and colourful P-funk samples, before heading ultra-deep via the beatdown-influenced haziness of 'Detroit Dubz'. 'In Your Soulz' sees him add energy-packed hand percussion and chiming lead lines to a bustling deep house beat, while 'Digital XTC (Detroit Mix)' is a spacey, hypnotic workout that sounds like it was tailor-made for dark warehouses in the hours approaching dawn.

Powder (5:59)
Lost (4:55)
Powder (Delano Smith More Powder remix) (7:09)
Private Party (5:29)
Review: You'll struggle to find any deeper or more alluring tracks in Norm Talley's catalogue than 'Powder', the wonderfully hypnotic, locked in and subtly spacey opener from the Motor City producer's 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. It's a good thing, then, that Talley has decided to reissue the sought-after EP on his own label. The Detroiter doesn't put a foot wrong throughout, with the chugging, beatdown-inspired brilliance of 'Lost', which boasts some sublime piano solos, and the up-beat hustle of 'Private Party' being equally as essential as 'Powder'. Speaking of that track, Delano Smith's 'More Powder' version is also worth a listen, featuring as it does slightly bolder synth riffs and a tougher, techno-influenced groove.

Martin Ikin - "Oscill8" (5:19)
Raumakustik & Tony Romera - "That Groove" (5:56)
Low Steppa & Crusy - "BFG" (5:44)
Eden Prince - "Get Down" (5:27)
Review: Toolroom share the seventh instalment of their label Sampler series, bringing together four new ones from six artists in their roster; Martin Ikin, Raumakustik & Tony Romera, Low Steppa & Crusy, and Eden Prince. These are huge, ravey, deep techy numbers for the big-room-inclined; we're rhythmically and vocal-samply implored to oscillate at a nigh-militant frequency, though the impulse to dance doesn't come without its shuffles and wonks. Our highlight here is the beatless breakdown in 'BFG', on which that delicious chord stab truncates all expectations thereafter.

Review: Moderation is important when it comes to psychedelics use, and so it's just as well that The Trip's latest acid trance EP 'Perfect Moderation' preaches this. The sound is measured to match, with just the right balance of midrange acid and drummy punch to sate all the senses without overstimulating the heightened mind. Things grow piano-ravey on the B, too, for those who prefer their music less entheogenic and more euphoric.

Dea - "Phoroma" (4:28)
Iro Aka - "Void Index" (6:23)
Too Smooth Christ - "Avais Mariah" (6:16)
Volta Cab - "Titanium Stresser" (4:34)
Review: Mirko Hecktor and Tom Sprenger founded Terra Magica in 2021 as a platform for their brand of psychedelically-charged house and techno, and they've quickly built up a strong identity and a burgeoning community of likeminded astral travellers. Look no further than this quality split release for all the proof you need, as Lucas Croon threads Balearic, prog and trance together before the label bosses (Hektisch Sprengen DJs) weave some mystical mantras of their own and Dea revels in boxy Chicago jack crossed with Island boogie. It's an eclectic mix to be sure, with another three joints taking in uptempo proto-trance and anthemic emo-acid-breaks aplenty. Draw for the big feelings and get freaky in the process - what's not to love?

Ayo! (6:05)
Shoes Off (4:31)
Review: A warm welcome back to Jimmy Wallace - whose recent outing as Wallace on Rhythm Section International was really rather good - and his quirky Tartan series. The series has long been hard to pigeonhole, with Wallace (we think - there's no credited artist) delivering nostalgic cuts that sit somewhere between unlikely re-edits and sample-heavy re-makes. A-side 'Ayo' begins in sleazy fashion via a throbbing, dark Italo-goes-EBM groove, before Wallace introduces a colossal piano riff, more angular electronic motifs, grandiose Fairlight style stabs and some ear-catching sampled vocal snippets. Over on the flip, 'Shoes Off' could reasonably described as 'Balearic Bhangra': a loved-up and heavily electronic workout the brilliantly blurs the boundaries between late 80s Indian pop music and vintage house.

Took My Heart Away (6:33)
Sun (6:35)
Review: Anonymous label Tartan kicks off with two tracks that should pique the interest of anyone who seeks out unusual swerves to spice up their DJ sets. On the A side, 'Took My Heart Away' fuses uncanny sounds from rolling thunder to South Asian vocals, strapped to a brooding beat that should be compatible with the chugging crowd. On the flip, 'Sun' nudges up the tempo a touch and spaces things out considerably, creating a swirling deepest techno mood which might well herald the odd sunrise given half a chance.

Die Zeit (Synthapella) (6:24)
Review: Names don't get much more titanic when it comes to techno than old school German dons Timo Maas and Marc Romboy. They join their considerable skills for a new single here which is the first of a few to come. 'Die Zeit' does everything you would expect a track from this pair to do - it has the powerful linear drums, the rumbling bass lines and the epic synth craft that lights up a vast sky above. It's a tense rollercoaster with a grand ambition and lasting impact. A Synthapella is also included on the flip for even more of that melodic intensity.

The Right Moment (6:30)
Review: Set the time machine back to the 90s with this new 12" from System 108 out of Holland. It's a collaboration between Lipless and TMP that kicks off with the jacked up old school drums and sirens of 'Diet 505' before 'QMD' sinks down into a deep and moody tech roller with a serene and futuristic feel. 'El Ritmo' is a wild one with manic synth sequences sounding like a computer in meltdown over crispy, prickly tech house drums and finally, 'The Right Moment' layers up warped pads and mad whites into another vibrant and full flavour cut for the peak time. Lovely artwork on this one too.

If So Remember (7:45)
If So Remember (dub) (7:51)
Review: Since 1995, Fumiya Tanaka has been Japan's foremost producer of minimal techno and tech-house. In that time, he's built up a vast discography and continues to offer-up regular doses of crunchy, mind-altering goodness. He's predictably in fine form again on this Sundance double-header. The A-side boasts two versions of 'Dance Tonight': the organ-rich, gently warming tech-house snappiness of the original mix (A2), and an acid-fired 'Dub' that drags the track further towards late-night, heads-down territory. He repeats the trick on side B, pairing the rubbery, minor-key heavy tech-house shuffle of 'If So Remember' with a loose limbed and bass-heavy dub, rich in alien sounding chords, cascading melodies and drifting vocal snippets.

Coal In My Chest (Frankey & Sandrino remix) (5:36)
Review: Frankey & Sandrino go together like tea and cake, like clubbing and expensive water, or like DC10 and v-neck t-shirts. They are an accomplished pair who know exactly what they are doing in the studio and how to get the biggest reactions on the dance floor. For this new outing, they find themselves on Sum Over Histories with three more tech house cuts full of tension. 'Der Sprung' is cold and steely, the abstract sounds making for an austere listen while 'Libelula' has a more empowering feel on chunky marching drums overlaid with confident synths. 'Coal In My Chest' is a cinematic ambient piece.

Togue - "Miroir" (3:47)
Review: Berlin's Subtil label serves up a third and final EP of the year here and goes for a varied and vital various artists affair. Blacksketch kicks off with an inwardly reflective bit of ambient, then Andrei Ciubuc sinks us into a deep and dubbed out world of atmospheric mysticism on '9877654321'. Tripmastaz Enterprises then suspend you in mid air with some wispy cosmic melodies and Pirvu offers a beautiful bit of Balearic bliss that has you laying horizontal and gazing off to some distant stars. Martin Glowacz's gentle synth modulations further soothe the mind, body and soul and last of all Togue offers 'Miroir', a beatless and cinematic closer.

With three freaky sleek OG cuts from the dynamic duo, and a deliciously danceable remix from the progressive prince Olsvanger, you'd be a stupid boy to miss out on this one. Review: The Soul Clap label that was once so hype has admirably rolled on once the headlines passed and anyone not checking in on it since then has been losing out, frankly. Just get your ears around this new release from Tatie Dee for a start - it is a stylish six tracker though warm and bumping house with real heart. 'Nuit D'Menil' kicks off with lush late night chords and slick broken beats and from there things get more heavy and big with 'Bed & Break Fast' and then a Black Loops remix takes it into late night territory. 'I Wasn't Born In 1937' has a classic 90s vocal house feel and is brilliant and '16 Swing-71' brings jazz, Chicago and swing to another characterful cut before a darker, harder Belaria remix.

Review: Derrick Thompson is back under his Drivetrain alias and steering another various artists release on his own Soiree label carrying real-deal underground house and techno from his home base in the Motor City. Thompson kicks off with 'Spin The Record', a jacking, tracky slab of metallic pressure which will work wonders in the mix with all kinds of gear. Jay Strata is up next with 'Heart Strings', a plush slice of machine soul schooled in the Detroit approach. Teknobrat brings something a little spicier but no less classically informed, while DJ Mourad completes the set with an edgy, loopy affair to send synapses into overdrive.

Review: Small Hours from the Berlin-based Brit Youandewan is a young and already cult label that does things well, if not fast. Yet here we get a second EP in quick succession with the sixth outing again offering up four vital names from the house and tech underground. Velvet Velour opens up with squelchy, funky bass on 'Show You The Door' before Liquid Earth melts the mind with impossibly bendy synths and stiff drums on 'Gummo Hardrive.' Flip this 12" over and you'll find some cosmic tech in the form of The Honda Boys's 'Funghi Pie' and gurgling, gritty, metallic deep space house from Dreaming Mind who offers up 'Mid-Bozz.' Review: Tommy Vicari Jnr and SlapFunk is a match made in heaven, and finally they're crossing paths after years keeping innovation and flair alive in minimal tech house. This 12" promises to be the first in a series, and it sounds like we're in for a treat. 'Not Knew' is a flamboyant display of cut-up, sample-based house spliced with freaked out synth elements which give everything an alien finish. There's plenty of space for wonky atmospheres and meditative passages, but Vicari's music is about impactful sound design and a mischievous mood first and foremost.

'NMW' kick off with blame deep house grooves laced up with soft none chords that bring warm late night colour. 'Please, Get Away' is another fresh electronic house cut with playful melodic phrases over irresistibly warm bass and pitched up r&b vocals. 'Hypnotizing Eyes' completes the trio of originals with a chunky house funk, bulky kicks and spaced out cosmic chords. An Oden & Fatzo remix closed won with some French filter house magic.

Omri Smadar & DJ Gear - "Check One" (6:21)
Scarlett O'Malley - "Hey Party People" (6:54)
Demi Riquisimo - "Rocking You Internally" (club mix) (6:20)
Review: Semi Delicious return for their sixteenth edition with the impressive 'Asylum Of Love' V/A, inviting faces old and new to the imprint. A label noted for bringing together impressive collections of talent, SEMID016 is no exception, with six separate contributions from Krywald & Farrer, Gallegos, Tatie Dee, Omar Smadar & DJ Gear, Scarlett O'Malley & label boss, Demi Riquisimo. The A-side welcomes Krywald & Farrer, Gallegos and Tatie Dee, kicking off with 'Seize The Source' from the aforementioned Krywald & Farrer, before label regular Gallegos tops things up with 'Asylum of Love', and finally, Dee's 'For My Niece'. The B brings the most jubilant of the bunch, 'Check One', while this tonal up-shift continues with 'Hey Party People', before finally closing on Demi's finishing touch that is a version of 'Rocking You Internally' from his own 'Mirage Over' EP, released on the same imprint. All quality house here.

Charles Webster & Ursula Rucker - "Begin Anew" (Clavis remix) (8:09)
Timanti & Just Her - "Other Side" (6:07)
Dave Seaman - "Heavyweight Residue" (feat Thomas Gandey) (6:25)
Robert Babicz - "Red" (James Harcourt remix) (7:06)
Review: Dave Seaman and Steve Parry's Selador Recordings imprint releases most of its music digitally, serving up the most in-demand tracks on vinyl via the ongoing Magic Black Plastic Series. Volume five in the series boasts four more tried-and-tested treats, beginning with Clavis' gorgeous remix of Charles Webster and Ursula Rucker's 'Begin Anew' - all bubbly, hypnotic electronic bass, trippy tech-house noises, immersive chords, bouncy beats and poetic spoken word vocals. Timanto blurs the boundaries between warming deep house and melody-rich progressive house on 'Other Side', before Dave Seaman joins forces with Thomas Gandey on the low-slung dark room moodiness of 'Heavyweight Residue'. To round off the EP, Harcourt delivers a hypnotic, soft-touch tech-house take on 'Red James' by Robert Babicz.

Review: The good folks at Salon have got some more signature acid weirdness out of Tin Man here with the new single 'Shooting Stars'. It's a slow-motion and druggy downtempo pop lullaby with pensive spoken word mutterings. Elsewhere the Monkey Nenufar Vata remix of 'Electric Blue' is a rather mid-tempo roller with a playful rhythm, fleshy drums and meandering acid lines next to distant pads that are delightfully catchy. It becomes more dubbed out and minimal on the A2 then Tobias layers up crispy drum breaks and silvery hits on his remix of 'Love Sickness.' A varied and vital EP for sure.
