Review: It's been a while since the Albion stable graced our platters, but they're back in style with more of that on-point house music voodoo for the heat of the night. This single is a vessel for the various sides of Tommi Vicari Jr, who rolls out his Czevski alias to deliver a bruising remix of "57 Hertz" by 76-79. It's a reverb-soaked, dubbed out affair with a rock solid rhythm section and plenty of trippy FX tweaking on top. On the flip it's a different story with a similar feeling as we get the straight up Tommi Vicari Jr material in the shape of two killer tracks crafted for transcendental moments of dancefloor hypnosis.

Review: The Fourier label is back with more minimal dance floor magic, and the second release is a collaborative affair packed with talent. It's Aztec, Dark Male, Rob Bellfield and The Vast Profound who all come through here and start off with 'Sweet Music', a nice balmy and dubby cut for zoned out listening .'Unlimited Apex' pairs pensive basslines with smeared and expansive pads, then 'Standard Model' has a more warped and mind-melting cosmic take on warm, deep rolling tech. 'Silence After The Storm' is the gorgeously serene closer. Classy stuff for sure.

Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Review: Oh yes, we love it when Theo represses some of his most sought after tracks and this one is particularly well-timed. Leron Carson is still an unknown figure, a kid who used to make viciously raw and futuristic techno tracks in the late 1980's! "China Trax", alongside the rest of his tracks on a different Sound Signature double 12", is totally ahead of its time and if it was truly made in 1987 then it is nothing short of amazing. Of course, it's not just the year it was made in that's interesting but also the fact that it's music without an age, able to be appreciated by any generation of techno freaks. Theo's own "Insane Asylum" on the flipside is also pretty monumental; rigged beats, off-kilter grooves and that familiar spontaneity so heavily associated to the label.

Review: Late last year the Wolf Music crew launched a dedicated vinyl only series in triumphant fashion with the double dose of Red Rack' Em that was In Love Again. Evidently looking to maintain a high profile for this new endeavour, the second release in the series features the talented duo that is Creative Swing Alliance! If you've shaken a leg at a recent Wolf Music gig you'll no doubt be familiar with "In My Arms" from Pabs Valentine and his fellow Creative Swinger Steven Joyce Ames, a sublime arrangement where percussion rattles away with just a hiss of distortion, complemented by filtered M1 stabs, a beefy bassline and some fierce vocal hooks. Heading up the B Side is Wolf cub Thrillogy; don't be put off by the chilly title, "Arctic" is actually all about the warmth that resonates from those huge synth lines.

Review: Landing on a hand-stamped, blue marble and limited edition 12" are four more deep and dubbed out house tunes from the latest instalment of Mireia's We'll Sea series. Das Komplex kicks off with a serious aqueous rhythm drenched in waves of synth with a pained vocal sample that really makes it stick in your mind. Tecwaa knocks it back even further to a slow motion underwater dub current that gently moves you to a state of bliss. 'Nebula' from Achim Maerz is more upright and upbeat, with bright chords shining through the vast groove caverns as neat chords dance up top. 'Sky Waves' closes out in warm, rough edged lo-fi deep house fashion.

Review: Last year, Mother Tongue Records released Madre Lingua, an album of all-star collaborations between broken beat and deep house musicians and producers helmed by Verona-based Brit Patrick Gibin. This 12" updates two of the tracks from the set, with Gibin once again to the fore. On side A, he joins forces with long-time friend and studio buddy Kaidi Tatham to remix EDB and Gary Superfly's 'Pressure'. Their tack is bouncy and synth-heavy, with spacey, out-there lead lines and intergalactic-sounding pads rising above a Maurice Fulton-as-Syclops style bassline and loose-limbed house drums. Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. Over on side B, Grizzly Knuckles' 'Mad Bell' - a breathless, house tempo techno workout built around a nagging synth-bell loop - is followed by label regular The Jak's 'Aftermath', which sits somewhere between jacking lo-fi techno, UK funky and stab-happy Soca-house.

Review: It's all about the early 90s vibes on this 12" from Fauvre as four underground anthems from the era are revisited. Forty Wings Dynamo's 'Inversion' has a dubby, dreamy progressive house feel, its epic outlook and echoing percussion inevitably bringing Leftfield's first handful of 12"s to mind, before 'Raveolution' (Acid mix) brings a more jungle techno feel with sliced up breaks skittering around the four-to-the-floor kicks. Review: "Dubb Me Some'tin Fresh" first appeared on wax way back in 2001, as part of Halo, Hipp-E and Tony's first outing for YoshiToshi under the 6400 Crew alias. It remains one of their strongest cuts; a dark, sweaty and trippy fusion of tribal drums, acid bass and dub-house sensibilities. This reissue contains the freshly re-mastered original version, plus a trio of tasty new reworks. Deep Dish man Sharam steps up first, emphasizing the dub-influenced elements on a big room version that strips back the original's dense tribal drums without sacrificing any energy. In contrast, Sinisa Tamamovic's remix is loose and more tribal-minded, while Hector opts for more acid lines and heavier sub-bass on his big room-friendly interpretation.

It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

The experienced duo predictably hits its stride from the word go, serving up some swinging rhythms, hypnotic sub-bass and Salt & Pepa samples on peak-time tech-house box jam "Push It". Review: Here's a massive collaboration from two titans of house music, albeit spanning different generations. Riva Starr and Todd Terry are both legends in their own right, and they team up for this partnership on Hot Creations which is all about no-nonsense, big room pressure for the peak time crowd. 'This Is The Sound' is a whole heap of fun, with classic samples and stabs thrown around the mix on top of a sexy, bass-heavy groove. 'Creators' is clearly a nod to house's Chicago roots as the pair get into a Trax strain of acid that's seriously gnarly, the 303 tweaked to its very limits and then tweaked some more. For those wanting to get freaky in the mix with that same 303, there's also an 'Acidapella' thrown in for good measure.

The Robot Dance Connection's 'Powers Of Ten' (R2d2 live edit) kicks off side one, shiny high frequency polish played off against a gorgeously stubborn techno beat, before the slinkier and smoother 'Gold Saucer' by Brunzi offers an equally danceable but less angular counterpoint. Flip it over and Tomska's 'Lethal Overdose' (Touch dub 2022) offers rushing sonics, off kilter snare damage and four to the floor thump, before Emile's 'Jeu Froid' completes the set in grimy basement style.

IT is Italian Domenico Rosa who kicks off with a brilliantly lush and melodic house workout that has as much old school influence as it does future soul. Review: Good Vibrations Music boss Sean McCabe has done the world a favour by persuading NYC house legend Victor Simonelli to resurrect his Solution project for the first time in 14 years. Strictly speaking, 'Was It Just a Game' is not brand new - it appeared on the flip of 1993 single 'Was That All It Was' - though the three versions most definitely are. Justin Stride steals the show under his Black Sonix moniker with a bumpin' A-side revision that recalls the glory days of 1990s New Jersey garage - all infectious organ stabs, rich chords, cut-up Tafuri vocal snippets and bustling drums. Elsewhere, McCabe delivers a tidy 21st century dub that features a wonderfully fuzzy bassline, while the Motion Severn remix is a warming drift through tactile deep house territory.

Review: Local Talk has quietly but assuredly become a vital voice in there underground. It has done so over the last 13 years and now makes that occasion by doing what it does best - serving up timeless club sounds that mix under many different subgenres. This is another feel-good offering from four of the label's talents or as the label puts it, "producers that we love and respect." There is funky bass and soulful vibes from the Soul Renegades opener, Wipe The Needle's 'Light Years Away' is a more serene cosmic journey and The James L'Estraunge Orchestra offer a broken beat and jazzed-up dancer in 'Broken Spells.' Nico Lahs brings some cuddly depths to his slow-mo house jam 'Happenstance.'

Review: T.A.C. was a collaboration between John Beer and Chris McCormack, the latter being a prolific techno producer throughout the early 2000s under aliases such as UK Gold. This was their only release at the turn of the millennium, on Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic imprint, reissued here on Frankfurt's Rawax. There's groovy UK tech house reminiscent of the early noughties on A-side cut 'Spit Roast', while over on the flip the minimal funk of 'Game On' is reminiscent of early Daniel Bell, plus there's the funky tribal groove of 'Snatch'.

Review: Making no bones about his sources of inspiration, Rotterdam-based DJ and producer Mitchel Polderman directs his Tafkamp alias to a wholesale ghetto house / Dance Mania aesthetic right down to the centre label. Tracks like 'Twerk Dat Shit' and 'Drive Me Crazy' have all the moves you'd expect from some proper Chicago early 90s gear, but Polderman's sound has a slicker modern finish which sets it apart from the OG material. There are six tracks on this release, and they all channel legends like DJ Deeon et al, with a pitched down sample of Peaches thrown in for good measure.

Review: Kai Alce's pretty much faultless label NDATL looks to a fellow American house heavyweight here in Detroit soldier Norm Talley, who is head of his own Upstairz Asylum label. First up is a textbook hard edge but deep house sound from Norm on 'Gonna Be' He then keeps things brilliantly deep on 'Power' which is laced with insightful spoken words. Things are just as essential on the flip side with 'The Bounce' making sure dancefloors do just that thanks to Norm's next level drum sounds, then comes the hypnotic 'The Truth' before Norm shows a different look than usual with the more soft and tender delights of 'Dearly Beloved' ft Jerald Dameyon.

Review: Recently Norm Talley launched a new label, Upstairs Asylum, and delivered a much-needed sequel to his superb 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. A decade on from the record's original release, he's finally got around to producing a sequel. The native Detroiter predictably starts in fine fashion via 'Gonna Luv U', a chunky and locked-in house number rich in groovy bass, bold piano motifs, ear-cathing sax riffs and colourful P-funk samples, before heading ultra-deep via the beatdown-influenced haziness of 'Detroit Dubz'. 'In Your Soulz' sees him add energy-packed hand percussion and chiming lead lines to a bustling deep house beat, while 'Digital XTC (Detroit Mix)' is a spacey, hypnotic workout that sounds like it was tailor-made for dark warehouses in the hours approaching dawn.

Deep House
Review: You'll struggle to find any deeper or more alluring tracks in Norm Talley's catalogue than 'Powder', the wonderfully hypnotic, locked in and subtly spacey opener from the Motor City producer's 2011 EP on Mixmode, Tracks From The Asylum. It's a good thing, then, that Talley has decided to reissue the sought-after EP on his own label. The Detroiter doesn't put a foot wrong throughout, with the chugging, beatdown-inspired brilliance of 'Lost', which boasts some sublime piano solos, and the up-beat hustle of 'Private Party' being equally as essential as 'Powder'. Speaking of that track, Delano Smith's 'More Powder' version is also worth a listen, featuring as it does slightly bolder synth riffs and a tougher, techno-influenced groove.

Review: Three years after making her debut on Sounds of Beaubien West with the deep and dreamy Agua Congas EP, Paula Tape returns with her first vinyl outing since. This time round she's in collaboration with Italo-disco/Italo-house revivalist - and Alzaya Records co-founder - Volantis. 'Octava Dimension' is pleasingly thrusting and druggy affair, with the Chilean's breathy vocals and an ear-catching lead line working in perfect unison with a tough, Italo-disco style bassline and jacking machine drums. Over on the flip, Elias Mazian re-imagines the track as a tactile, early '90s deep house treat, while Tornado Wallace lays down an even deeper, dreamier revision built around a lovely bassline, heady stabs and off-kilter, post-electro beats.

Review: Kaidi Tatham back on 2000BLACK needs little explanation really, does it? Anyone who takes broken beat and neo soul seriously should already be slipping this on in their cart, but for the uninitiated this is one of the grandmasters of the sound in full flight. 'Galaxy' is a beautiful, uplifting soul-boogie jam with a stunning vocal turn from Lola Violet, and it comes in two different twists depending on the energy you need to bring to your set - for us the 'Uptempo Mix' is a perfect shot of joy in the arm. 'A Message From Above' cools things down with gorgeous keys, a characteristically snagging beat and sultry horns, and 'Ergonomic Structures' slinks into the sweetest of downtempo funks that'll have you head nodding hard and keeping you chill all in the same beat.

Review: Paris-based Friendsome Records returns after some great releases by legend Roy Davis Jr and Belaria with a new one this week by ascendant local DJ/producer Tatie Dee. The Purple Wave EP is her debut and features four energetic cuts, plus a remix. The A-side features the acid soaked uplifting house journey 'Take Me Up' followed by more jackin' 303 power in the form of 'Sierra Nevada'. Over on the flip, said remix comes from the one-and-only Mr G who turns in a steely, industrial-edged rendition of the first track in his inimitable style, followed by one more stomper that's properly geared for those heads-down moments on the dancefloor in the form of 'OMZ'.

Review: The Soul Clap label that was once so hype has admirably rolled on once the headlines passed and anyone not checking in on it since then has been losing out, frankly. Just get your ears around this new release from Tatie Dee for a start - it is a stylish six tracker though warm and bumping house with real heart. 'Nuit D'Menil' kicks off with lush late night chords and slick broken beats and from there things get more heavy and big with 'Bed & Break Fast' and then a Black Loops remix takes it into late night territory. 'I Wasn't Born In 1937' has a classic 90s vocal house feel and is brilliant and '16 Swing-71' brings jazz, Chicago and swing to another characterful cut before a darker, harder Belaria remix.
