When powered at 18v, the range of clean tones are widened, dirty tones become punchier with better note articulation, low frequencies are tightened, higher frequencies will cover a broader spectrum without becoming harsh and the output volume nearly doubles! This meticulously crafted box has six knobs that allow you to truly customize your sound with the Level, Weight, Gain, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls.

The Gain control on Zoar goes from the edge of break up all the way over the cliff into the crunchy, grinding abyss. The character of the distortion is heavily dependent on the setting of the Weight control as well as the pickup type and further fine-tuned by the EQ section.

Zoar's 3-Band EQ and Gain controls give you nearly unlimited options with great focus and sensitive precision, but the real powerhouse of Zoar is the Weight control. This control dictates the amount of low end that is passed into the circuit, thus controlling the entire character of the pedal. Simply dial in the 3-Band EQ to 12 o'clock and adjust the Weight to see how drastically it dictates your sound. From a mere clean boost to a high gain distortion to overdrive to the crispy Hi-Fi fuzz territory, this function gives you everything.

The Level control hits unity around noon, but this is dependent on where the other controls are set. In addition to controlling the output volume, it also plays a small part in controlling the voice of Zoar. By adjusting the Level control with any combination of EQ (boosting the frequency bands and cutting the output volume), you can achieve drastically different curves that have the feel of the more traditional low pass filter type tone control.

The Andy Summers Walking on the Moon is an analogue flanger with a simple but powerful control set of RATE, RANGE, and COLOR. RATE sets the speed of modulation which ranges from slow, smooth filter sweeps to jittering vibrato. RANGE controls how narrow or wide the effect sweeps into the bass frequency range. The COLOR control effects the intensity of the flanger effect from subtle chorusing effects to classic jet woosh sounds. These three controls interact to create a wide breath of modulation effects.

Additionally, the Walking on the Moon includes a FILTER MATRIX which disengages the LFO from the flanger circuit, freezing the flanger giving a fixed filter effect, which can add chime or metallic overtones to your sound without the movement of a traditional modulation pedal. A DRY output allows you to split your dry signal from the effected signal.

Each ADSR provides these controls and in/outputs:

The output voltage range for each envelope is 0 - 10V (10V = attack peak).

The time range of Attack/Decay/Release is about 1ms to 30s.

By means of internal jumpers one can select which time parameters are controlled by the CVT input (e.g. D only or D+R or A+D+R) and in which direction (i.e. if an increasing CVT shortens or stretches the time parameter in question).

Socket CVT can be normalled to an internal fixed voltage (i.e. the switching contact is connected to an internal fixed voltage). That way it's possible to change all time parameters simultaneously by means of the CVT control.

Another jumper is used to set output 2 to normal or inverted envelope.

And another jumper is used for the normalling of Gate 2 to Gate 1 (i.e. ADSR#2 is also triggered by Gate 1).

Two more jumpers are used for the optional bus access to the gate signal of the bus for each ADSR.

Notes: Module A-147-2 is the successor of the VCLFO A-147 but offers much more features than the predecessor. The module is made of these sub-units:

- VCLFO: voltage controlled low frequency oscillator
- VCA: voltage controlled amplifier, switchable to voltage controlled polarizer
- VC delay unit: voltage controlled linear attack envelope (only one parameter: attack) for delayed LFO operation in combination with the VCA (e.g. delayed vibrato/tremolo)

LFO: The voltage controlled LFO has the waveforms Triangle, Sine, Sawtooth and Rectangle available and features a Reset/Sync input. Triangle/Sine and Rectangle are displayed by means of dual-colour LEDs (probably red/green), Sawtooth has a unicolor LED available (probably blue). The output levels are about -4V...+4V for Triangle, Sine and Rectangle. The Sawtooth level is about 0...+8V.

The CV control can be switched to attenuator or polarizer ("CV Mode" switch). In polarizer mode the CV inputs affects the frequency in the reverse manner when the CV control is left from the centre position. In the centre position CV has no effect and right from the centre the control works like a normal attenuator. The frequency range (without external CV) is from about 0,005 Hz (i.e. about 3 minutes per period) to 200 Hz (with external CV max. frequency about 1kHz). In addition a ultra-low mode can be activated by means of an internal jumper. When the ultra-low jumper is set a fixed voltage is connected to the switching contact of the "LFO CV" socket. In polarizer mode of the CV control that way extremely low frequencies (up to one hour period and more) are possible. For this a jumper has to be installed on the pin header JP6. In the factory a dummy jumper is installed on the pin header JP7 "Dummy". JP7 has no function and is used only for "parking" of the jumper. Simply remove the jumper from JP7 and plug it on JP6. JP6 is located behind the CV control.

VCA: This is a linear VCA that can be switched to "normal" VCA (i.e. kind of a voltage controlled attenuator) or voltage controlled polarizer ("VCA Mode" switch). In the "normal" VCA mode amplification +1 is achieved with about +5V control voltage. In polarizer mode the amplification ranges from about -0.5 (i.e. inverted signal with about 50% level) with 0V CV to +0.5 (i.e. non-inverted signal with about 50% level) with +5V CV. With about +2.5V CV the signal is suppressed. Details about the functioning of a voltage controlled polarizer can be found in the description of the module A-133. In this mode the VCA can be treated also a DC coupled ring modulator (similar to A-114).

The VCA of the A-147-2 has three sockets available: "In" (signal input), "Out" (signal output) and "CV" (control voltage input).

The Triangle Output of the LFO is normalled to the VCA signal input by means of the switching contact of the "VCA In" socket. If another LFO waveform (or any other signal) should be processed by the VCA the corresponding signal has to be patched to the "VCA In" socket. The VCA can be used also independently from the LFO and the Delay CV. In this case the VCA sockets In, Out and CV have to be patched accordingly. The VCA can be used also as waveshaper for the LFO signals (e.g. by patching VCA In and VCA CV to different LFO signals, if necessary via attenuator A-183-1 or offset generator/attenuator A-183-2).

Attack/Delay: The third sub-unit of the module is a simple, voltage controlled envelope generator that has only the parameter "Delay" (or Attack) available. This unit generates a linear increasing voltage that starts from 0V after each Delay Reset until it reaches about +5V. Then the voltage remains at +5V until the next Delay Reset occurs. The inclination or gradient is controlled by the manual Delay control and the Delay control voltage ("Delay CV" input). The waveform is linear, the control scale is exponential. The output voltage is displayed by a green LED and available at the "Delay Out" socket.

The manual Delay control ranges - without external "Delay CV" - from about 5ms (fully CW) up to 2 minutes (fully CCW). By means of an external voltage applied to the "Delay CV" socket this range can be extended. A rising CV shortens the delay time (behaviour like a VCO)!

The Delay output voltage ranges from about 0V to +5V. The rising edge of the gate, clock or trigger signal applied to the "Delay Reset" sockets resets the Delay output voltage to 0 V.

"Delay Out" is normalled to the VCA CV input by means of the switching contact of the "VCA CV" socket and consequently controls the Triangle level provided that no other patch is made. A typical example is the usage of a Gate signal (e.g. from a USB/Midi-to-CV/Gate interface) as Delay Reset. That way a delayed vibrato or tremolo can be realized if the VCA output is patched to the frequency CV input of a VCO (or VCF), or the CV input of a VCA.

A vintage-style analog drum machine from Korg's recently announced Volca series. The Volca Beats includes a 16-step sequencer and 6 x editable analog parts including kick, snare, Hi/Lo toms and open & closed Hi-Hats designed to provide sounds reminiscent of classic 80s drum machines. It also has an additional PCM engine which is said to produce 4 x Lo-Fi percussion sounds including clap, claves, agogo and crash sounds.

There is one-knob-per-function parameter control for crafting each of the six analog sounds including click, snappy, pitch, decay and grain. The PCM sounds have control over pitch and speed. There is also a Level knob allowing volume adjustment of each part.

An Overdrive you can trust

The Special Cranker is an all-discrete analogue distortion enhancement device designed to give your signal some extra grit and boost without drastically altering your tone and retaining all of the natural nuances and character of your amp. Think of it as sticking an extra preamp tube in your amplifier for more saturation. Single notes will blossom and bloom with rich harmonics and singing sustain with responsive, tube-like sag. Power chords will sound thicker and crunchier, a little more ragged around the edges. Complex chords will remain distinct and complex, as the Special Cranker is designed to preserve your tone's integrity without muddying up the low-end or smearing the midrange.

The Special Cranker picks up where the beloved Speaker Cranker left off. It has the same spongy, dynamic, and touch-sensitive character of the original but with more gain, double the output volume (now with a user-friendly Level control), an added Tone control to shape your signal, and a diode selector switch featuring the original asymmetrical Silicon diodes as well as a hot, new Germanium diode option.

The More control goes from nearly clean to a medium gain overdrive when at maximum. This control adjusts the bias of the transistor, so you may hear a little noise as you turn the control. Don't freak out; it's totally fine. The gain characteristics are dependent on which diodes are chosen. When the Germanium diodes are selected, the Special Cranker delivers a softer, more rounded response with tamed highs and lower output, while the Silicon diodes add a brighter, more modern edge and higher output. Both are exceptionally responsive to playing dynamics and have excellent clarity. The Tone control gives the user full command over treble frequencies, cutting the highs when counter-clockwise and adding a slight high-frequency boost when turned clockwise. The Level control adjusts the output from nothing to nearly double at maximum.

Flexi-Switchr Technology
This device features Flexi-Switchr Technology! This relay-based, true bypass switching style allows you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching.

For standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.

For momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you'd like to use the effect. Once you release the switch the effect will be bypassed.

Since the switching is relay based, it requires power to pass signal.

Power:

This device should be powered a standard 9-volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel. We always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. Switching-type power supplies, daisy chains and non-pedal specific power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise.

The Special Cranker can be safely operated from 9-18 volts.

Notes: The Listen IO is a simple module which gets signals in and out of a Eurorack system by converting to and from normal modular levels. The top section converts any external signal to modular levels by providing up to 30x gain (+30dB), allowing you to use table-top synthesizers, keyboards, phones/tablets, computers, toys, microphones, etc. in your patches. The bottom section does the opposite: modular signals are converted to normal line level signals. The bottom two jacks can be used as line outs or as headphone jacks, so you and a friend can listen in stereo at the same time.

Review: The Flaming Lips' 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is being reissued as 6CD and 5LP 20th anniversary box sets - with both featuring demos, B-sides, radio sessions and more. Notes: Gera is a component of the Leibniz subsystem that allows masking individual bits of the digital data by the use of logical AND operation.

It features 8 individual gate inputs that affect the individual bits of data, as well as 8 illuminated tact switches for manual inverting of each control input. When connected to Drezno that is processing a waveform or voltage, masking of individual bits yields various forms of quantization. However, Gera can function on its own. The AND operation is a basic building block for sequence automation, chaos and rhythm generation, and various computer-like modular patches.

Bit processing logic in Gera is hardware based, hence there is virtually no latency, and the binary signals may change at extreme rates.

Review: "The Box" is a collection of the earliest and perhaps most cherished recordings by UK producer Dennis Huddleston, better known as 36. Written between 2005 and 2012, it compiles the albums Hypersona (2009), Hollow (2010) and Lithea (2012) into a 6LP boxset, alongside a bonus LP of exclusive and unreleased tracks titled Orphans. Review: The Strokes The Singles - Volume 01 is a 7" vinyl boxset comprised of the ten original vinyl singles released from the band's first three studio albums. Utilising the original singles artwork, the boxset will include standard black 7" vinyl of 'The Modern Age', 'Hard To Explain', 'Last Nite', and 'Someday' taken from Is This It (2001), while '12:51', 'Reptilia', and 'The End Has No End' comes from Room on Fire (2003), and 'Juicebox', 'Heart In A Cage', and 'You Only Live Once' are culled from First Impressions of Earth (2006), all with their accompanying B-sides.

Notes: Lipsk facilitates the inversion of the individual bits produced by Drezno (or any other module connected to its input header at the back), and delivers the resulting code to its output header. Bit inversion can be manually controlled by pressing any of combination of its eight illuminated buttons, or it can be automated by patching gate signals into its gate input sockets. An active (5V) gate flips the state of the respective bit. If the button is active (bit already flipped), then the gate flips the bit again yielding double inversion (no inversion). The corresponding LEDs show the combined effect of both manual and gate actions. Review: Part of the early 80s Sheffield avant-garde scene, In The Nursery was formed at the turn of the decade between twin brothers Nigel and Klive and Humberstone. As living mirror-images, they knew likeness first hand; it seems fitting that they would embrace the imitative, reproductive spirit of industrial music. Under the shared moniker, they would subvert the prevailing mood, agonising grotesque military connotations of an uncertain future by working in a new style, "martial electronica". As heard on this latest set of Recordings made between 1981-1999, their sound was not totally tinny or robotic, making use of cinematic and Romantic tropes in near equal measure to futuristic shock-horrors. From spectacular edge-of-your-seaters ('Stone Souls') to operatic apogees ('Listen') and modish drum machine workouts ('A To I'), this is a comprehensive compilation, just as suited to the spectacular screen as for the auratic DJ set - pick your poison.
