  1. Take Me I'm Yours (6:59)
  2. Take Me I'm Yours (instrumental) (6:59)
Review: We can think of a fair few disco diggers who will be more than a little annoyed by this re-issue. Originally released on the obscure La Shawn label back in 1980, "Take Me I'm Yours" is widely considered to be one of Patrick Adams' best productions. It's certainly something of a dusty gem, with Mary Clark's soulful, country-tinged vocals simply soaring over a reggae-tinged, string-drenched disco groove. It would have been nice to have seen original flipside "You Got Your Hold On Me" included, but it's not a major issue; given the in-demand (and hard-to-find) nature of the A-side, we should be pleased it's come back round again.

Review: Dark Entries' series of leftfield Italo-disco reissues continues with a double-header from prolific Italo disco session vocalist Helen (AKA Elena Ferretti), whose early excursions on obscure Italian labels Out Records and Discomagic have previously been the sole preserve of dusty-fingered crate-diggers. This EP brings together two of her finest EPs; 1983's scarce "Witch" - an exercise in bubbling, synth-pop inclined Italo-disco - and 1985's arguably better-known "Zanzibar". It's arguably the sparse, cowbell-laden "Afro Mix" - think Cosmic Club era Daniele Baldelli - of this track that steals the show, though all four tracks are shot through with that European strangeness that often marks out the best early Italo cuts.

  2. Tabu Ley Rochereau - "Hafi Deo" (Nick The Record & Dan Tyler re-edit dub) (10:15)
Review: Edits in the hole! Two Afrofunk gems enjoy floor-primed refocuses: Steve Monite's Doing It In Lagos-featured "Only You" gets a little juice from Sofrito's Frankie Francis who really brings the bass out in proceedings. Meanwhile on the B Nick The Record and Idjut Boy Dan Tyler tweak the energy and sheen of Tabu Ley Rochereau's "Hafi Disco" as the drums are given a little more momentum and the chorus and horns are really brought to the centre of the action. Stunning.

  1. Don't Send Me Away (5:22)
  2. You Got Dat Right (5:54)
Review: Last year, obscure 1980s soul singer Garfield Fleming returned to action with a mini-album of tracks co-produced by modern boogie maestro Simon Tappenden AKA Ourra. Here we get a chance to savour once again his 1981 debut single, the much-sampled "Don't Send Me Away". It's something of a "groove"-era boogie classic, all told, with Fleming's superb lead vocal rising above sweeping orchestration and a chunky groove. It also boasts a seriously good breakdown in which Garfield's repetitive chorus vocals ride a stripped-back but percussive groove. Turn to the flip for the solid original B-side "You Got Dat Right", a jaunty slab of disco powered by honky tonk style pianos and a superb "walking" bassline.

Review: In the face of all those Clone reissue compilations, Tresor are doing the right thing and digging into their own archive of seminal aquatic machine funk from Detroit electro legends Drexciya, and stepping up with the Hydro Doorways EP is the kind of power move that most labels can only dream of being able to make. From the cinematic drama of "Quantum Hydrodynamics" to the textbook boogie down synth abandon of "Polymono Plexusgel", not forgetting the heavy-on-the-one throwdown of "Lost Vessel" or the alien gurgles and peppy pace of "Species On The Pod", or the... oh you know the drill. This is timeless, essential business for anyone that takes electronic music seriously.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Best Italy turn their impeccable reissue powers towards a surefire burner from 1984 given the stamp of approval by the likes of David Mancuso, Larry Levan and Ron Hardy back in the day. "Come Back Lover" was actually mixed down by another legendary DJ - Tony Humphries - and it shows. Even the original mix plays out with an extended, floor-focused flow that captures the creative energy at work at this epochal time for DJ culture. As ever with Best reissues, there's a plethora of alternative and dub mixes to suit any spinner's specific requirements, with the groove front and centre every time.

Review: Originally debuting on Well Rounded Records' Housing Project sub-label in 2012, Leon Vynehall has since become one of the UK's most in-demand of the new wave of young house producers. He's released subsequent records for George Fitzgerald's ManMakeMusic and Will Saul's Aus, and most recently an album on Martyn's 3024. Vynehall is now in cruise control and he lays back on Clone's Royal Oak with what will prove to be a favourite with DJs this summer. "Butterflies" is this record's piano-driven house jam, but really it's all about "This Is The Place", a loved up peach of a production with the strength to appease the underground and crossover into the mainstream.

  1. Lafayette Afro Rock Band - "Hihache" (extended Breaks Special edition version) (4:23)

Review: More sneaky 45 action from the Breaks & Beats crew, a shadowy organization whose tried-and-tested re-edits offer DJ-friendly extensions of popular break-digging favourites (many of which were sampled on classic hip-hop cuts). Their latest seven-inch excursion begins with a tidy revision of Lafayette Afro-Rock Band's brilliant "Hihache", a low-slung favourite rich in lolloping, head nodding drum breaks, jazzy bass, flanged funk guitars and fuzzy horn motifs. The new version is deferential towards its source material, extending breaks here and there whilst leaving much of the tune in tact. One of the most doubled-up drum breaks in hip-hop history takes pride of place on side B, where Gaz's Salsoul released wiggler "Sing Sing" gets the re-edit treatment.

Review: Two years have passed since his inaugural Remixed With Love collection but Joey finally delivers another immaculate collection of official edits and reversions. A quick squizz at the artists he's refixed will confirm (if any confirmation is necessary) Joey's weight and authority: Cheryl Lynn, Willie Hutch, The O'Jays, Patti LaBelle, Kleeer and many more go under Joey's crafty knife. Extensions are made, beats and fine-tuned, percussive breakdowns are polished and subtle dubby elements are brought to the fore. Even the most ardent of Dave Lee collectors may have a few holes to fill right here.

Review: The release of any new Gerard Hanson record is a cause for celebration, but we have to admit to being doubly excited about this one. It marks the long-serving producer's first solo Convextion release since 2016 and contains two killer cuts. The un-titled A-side is particularly impressive, with Hanson wrapping immersive, delay-laden electronics and sumptuous deep space chords around a bustling, dub-fired Motor City techno groove. Even by his standards, it's superb. Over on side B, he's back in atmospheric deep techno mode, offering up a poignant and melancholic affair that's as deep, spacey and emotional as anything he's ever done before. Given his track record, that's some accolade.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Best may be best known for jazz and disco reissues, but they're also dab hands at unearthing forgotten gems from the annals of Italian deep house too. The Countach were last seen in active service back in 1990, dropping just two singles but making sure they were bona fide classics. "Aqua Marina" has plenty of lashings of jazz funk rubbed into its loins, not least on the "Sweet Dream Version". The "Paradise Version" nudges the key of the club mixes and ramps up the reverb, and then the "Original Studio Version" switches up the mood with an organic, live band groove on this crucial 12".

Review: Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This "Part B" edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

Review: Fresh from the success of two top notch EPs on iile, Leo Pol unveils his most ambitious release to date. All I Got In Me is something of a beast, with seven tracks stretched across two slabs of wax. It's a rather pleasingly varied affair, all told, with the experienced producer flitting between Detroit style techno futurism ("BH2"), warm, chunky and occasionally tough deep house ("All I Got In Me", "Live Concrete"), spacey beatbox electro ("Live Love") and the kind of tech-house cuts that look to both the Motor City and Chicago for inspiration. As a bonus, he's also included a collaborative cut under the St Ouen Connection moniker, the deep and hazy, techno-tempo positivity of "Masile".

Review: Former Slum Village and Platinum Pied Piper beat maker Waajeed has thrown himself into soulful, synth-laden deep house production of late, primarily by making his presence felt on cuts by fellow Detroit legend Theo Parrish. Here he strikes out on his own with a brilliantly colourful, imaginative and on-point EP of solo productions. There's much to admire throughout, from the looked vibraphone melodies, darting brass and undulating broken house rhythms of "Shango", to the Dego and Kaidi Tatham style, jazz-funk influenced electro smoothness of "Better Late Than Never". Opener "Winston's Midnight Disco", where hushed synth-disco samples are wrapped into alien synth lines and elastic bass, is also rather fine.

Review: You wait ages for a new Marcellus Pittman 12", and two come along at once. Can't Forget About You is the Detroit deep house producer's second EP in as many weeks following a near three-year hiatus. While the other 12", Revenge For Nothing, was raw, analogue-rich and abrasive, the three tracks here are altogether deeper, woozier and smoother. He begins with the simmering, ultra-deep beatdown vibes pf sensual lead cut "Can't Forget About You", before brilliantly breaking up the beats on "All Is Love", which also sees him make great use of some fluid and jazzy piano samples. Finally, Pittman opts for a more clandestine, late night vibe of the horror-influenced early morning hypnotism of "Creepy Crawlers".

Review: We were somewhat surprised to discover that Revenge For Nothing is Marcellus Pittman's first 12" single for nearly three years. We were even more surprised when we heard the title track, a fantastically druggy, drum machine-heavy concoction that sounds like a long lost collaboration between the early house pioneers of Chicago and their techno counterparts in Detroit. The sparse but heavyweight feel of the track is matched by the trippy, low-slung simplicity of flipside "Red Dogon Star", where a kick-drum dominated rhythm track is peppered with fuzzy, jammed-out analogue bass, Yorkshire bleeps and mind-altering electronics.

Review: Time marches relentlessly on as does the immortal sound of iconic Madchester band Joy Division. At the heart of Unknown Pleasures was the alarming vocal talent of Ian Curtis. His alien wails, echoed expressionistic vistas of urban alienation over No Wave tribal beats and Gothic guitar impressions. And despite the breathtaking intensity of the angular acid comedown "She's Lost Control", the soaringly depraved detachment of "New Dawn Fades" and the proto-slowcore "Candidate", opening track "Disorder" remained the piece years ahead of its time and most immediately enduring. This anniversary record arrives almost forty years to the day after it was originally released, splashed out on 180g ruby red vinyl with an alternative white sleeve to resemble the original and legendary cover design. Unquestionably authentic, Unknown Pleasures was a vision so uncompromising and haunting that each track was worth its length. This commemorative reissue, then, continues the celebration of one of the most important albums of our time as well as highlighting the record as a landmark in music-design crossover history.

Review: On their latest limited edition salvo, the hardworking Soul Flip crew (AKA experienced DJs and producers Aldo Vanucci and Del Gazeebo) gets to work on two more stomping dancefloor cuts from the golden age of soul. First up on side A is a gently tooled-up and tightened up take on Etta James and Sugar Pie DeSanto's 1966 floor-heater "In The Basement", a hybrid soul-jazz/rhythm and blues jam rich in rubbery double bass, bustling drums, restless handclaps and brilliant lead vocals from the two legendary soul singers. On the flip they tackle Memphis musician John Gary Williams' 1972 cover of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord", which brilliantly re-imagines the former Beatles' spiritual song as a sweaty gospel-soul stomper.

Review: By all accounts, Son of Sound and Jus' Ed have been pals for years, though this is the first time they've penned a joint release. They begin with the fluttering, riff-propelled deep house bounce of "Cuchfritos", where rubbery drum fills help to create extra energy, before notching up the tempo via the spacey, synth-fuelled stomp of "I Have You On My Side". The swinging, jazz-dance friendly organ garage swing of "Bridgeport 2 Brooklyn" brilliantly draws the curtain down on Side A, before the duo kick off the flipside with the ultra-deep beauty of "Wicked Self", whose undulating synthesizer solos are particularly tasty. As if that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, closer "Manhattan's Projects" is a fizzing chunk of rolling and spacey peak-time house.

Review: As soon as the sun pops out, we tend to reach for exuberant, celebratory fare. Helpfully, there's plenty of that kind of sweaty, arms-aloft fare to be found on Dan Snaith's latest outing as Daphni. While his releases under the alias were once percussive and Afro-centric, this one comes with a big dollop of funk-fuelled goodness and more dancefloor weight than you can shake a stick at. Check, for example, the pots-and-pans percussion, soaring strings and low-slung bass of disco-sampling smasher "Romeo", the saucer-eyed rush of "Just", where another loved-up disco cut is smothered in loose-limbed carnival drumming, and the jazz-house-goes-breakbeat heaviness of "If". Best of all, though, is "Sizzling (Featuring Paradise)", a colossal chunk of pitched-up carnival disco-house full of ear-catching vocal refrains, rubbery bass and tropical horn blasts.

That 12" has long been tricky to find - unless, of course, you're willing to fork out rather a lot to purchase an original copy online - so it's great to see the EP's two standout tracks getting the reissue treatment. A-side "System Error" is particularly potent, with fizzing sci-fi electronics and gently pulsing chords rising above a techno-tempo, house style rhythm track. "Straight Ahead Then Take The Next Wrong" is more hypnotic in tone, sounding like a blueprint for today's glitchy, bass-heavy tech-house tracks.

We've not listened to the digital edition, but this vinyl version is, at times, breathtakingly good. While each of the nine tracks is beat-free and undeniably ambient in nature, there's still plenty of subtle variety to be found throughout. Compare, for example, the pulsing beauty of "Desiccate", where what sound like processed clarinet lines slowly rise above sunrise-ready chord sequences, and the clandestine creepiness of "Format", a paranoid and claustrophobic affair that creaks under the weight of its own post-apocalyptic intent. Other highlights include the hypnotic, stretched-out analogue electronics of "Wirkungsgrad" and the becalmed musical waters of "Exothermic Reaction".

Now they're back in collaboration for more classically rooted house music with a deeply infectious African twist. "Kubatana" is punchy where it counts, but it's a light and springy proto house burner first and foremost, with Manyika's vocal sounding as smooth as silk in the middle of the mix. "Hapana" is equally rich in musicality and personality, albeit on a more simmering, meditative tip. On the B side, "Kubatana" gets reworked by Rudy Midnight Machine and Paradise, who turn in distinct versions without losing the overall 80s aesthetic that powers the release.

Deep House
  1. Moments & Concepts (7:39)
  2. Be Free (6:17)
  3. A Song For Mia (4:15)
Review: When he last released on his own Sistrum label 18 months ago, Patrice Scott served up some serious deep house "Soul Food". This time round, he's concerned with "Moments & Concepts", opening another fine EP with an expansive title track that adds fluid, heart-aching Larry Heard style piano work to a breezy and beautiful backing track rich in snappy machine drums and undulating jazz bass. Over on the flipside, "Be Free" is a fine chunk of organ-driven classic deep house - all delay-laden soul vocal samples, elongated chords and bumpin' beats - while "A Song For Mia" sees the Detroit veteran wrap chilled out chords and lead lines around a head-nodding hip-hop beat.

  14. Gypsy - "Keep It Comin' On" (Serge Gamesbourg edit) (3:41)
Review: Bostonian DJ, producer and crate digger Serge Gamesbourg has spent much of the last two years slavishly digging into the history of Massachusetts' little known underground disco scene. Here, over mixed and unmixed discs, he presents the results. Naturally, there's little you'll have heard before, and plenty of high-grade dancefloor fire, much of it re-edited or subtly reworked by Gamesbourg himself. Highlights include the fuzzy, lo-fi funk of Gypsy's "Keep It Comin' On", the turn-of-the-'80s, synth-laden disco-funk dazzle of Portable Patrol's "Cop Bop", the celebratory release of "Fire Funk" by Hypnotics and the smooth, blue-eyed soul shimmer of "Wait Until Dark" by The Chris Rhodes Band.

  1. I Want Magic (Dimitri From Paris vs Cotonete 12" version) (7:15)
  2. I Want Magic (Dimitri From Paris vs Cotonete 12" dubstrumental) (7:14)
Review: "I Want Magic" is a welcome return to action from Jalapeno's premier soul sister, Izo FitzRoy, an artist whose 2017 debut album "Skyline" brilliantly joined the dots between classic soul, rhythm and blues and gospel. This time round she has her eyes firmly focused on the dancefloor, as producer Dimitri From Paris and backing band Cotonete (whose recent LP 'Super-vilains' is well worth a listen) join forces to cast a serious disco spell. "I Want Magic" is a revivalist disco jam per excellence; a tweak on the classic Chic sound with Cotonete adding a few sneaky solos and quality jazz-funk touches here and there. Of the two versions, it's the vocal mix (side A) that hits home hardest, thanks in no small part to a stunning lead vocal from FitzRoy that celebrates the giddy goodness of dancing like you're ten years old. Expect to hear it a lot at festivals throughout the summer.

  2. Larry McCormick - "Root Code" (5:26)
  3. Cosmic Force - "Maximilian Of Roma" (5:08)
  4. DeFeKT - "I Am Here" (5:17)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Larry McCormick's Monotone label is one of the finest outposts for darkside electro operating in these bountiful times for the genre, and following on from the first volume of vinyl-only compilation MonoTrax, brace yourselves for round two. The Hacker is at his stalking, sinister best on "Rhythmus Machine," while McCormick himself brings a tough, street-level grittiness to "Root Code." Cosmic Force is on a dystopian sci fi tip with the nagging synth patterns of "Maximilian Of Roma", and DeFeKT completes the package with the audacious synth acrobatics and jackhammer beats of "I Am Here." What more do you need to know? This is high-end electro business for down and dirty, sweat-box dancefloors.

  1. Dreamer G - "I Got The Feeling" (4:53)
  2. Precious - "Definition Of A Track" (4:47)
Review: With their "Foundations" series, DJ Spinna and Kai Alce continue to explore the formative years of house music culture, offering up seven-inch singles showcasing classic and overlooked gems. This fourth volume in the series contains two more must-have tracks subtly re-edited to fit the format by the effervescent Alce. First up on side A is Dreamer G's vocal anthem "I Got The Feeling", a 1992 NYC house classic - and Timmy Regisford favourite - produced by none other than Kerri Chandler. On the flip Spinna and Alce take us back to 1988, offering up an early New Jersey house production from the "Backroom Boys" team of Cassio Ware, Derek A. Jenkins and Dwayne Richardson, who would later find fame as DJ Spen. A superb song that's as soulful as you'd expect, it's largely been overlooked for over three decades.

  1. Eisbar (4:48)
  2. Film 2 (3:36)
  3. Ich Lieb Sie (3:23)
Review: The latest outing from Swiss reissue specialists WRWTFWW takes us back to 1981 and the debut single from Bern-based post-punk combo Grauzone. The 12" release of "Eisbaer" has long been a must-have amongst fans of off-kilter, dancefloor-ready new wave, and this replica reissue includes all three tracks featured on that version. Opener "Eisbar" sets the tone, with the bands weary, half spoken/half sung vocals rising above a backing track that's powered forwards by relentless bass guitar, screeching riffs and broken computer style electronics. "Film 2" is a heavy, synthesizer powered workout peppered with delay-laden drum hits and odd noises, while closing cut "Ich Liebe Sie" is a clicking and quietly melodious affair that's almost entirely electronic.

Review: Garden Of Eden was another one of those obscure, one-shot bands who released a sole single at some point in the 1970s and then promptly vanished from view. That single, "Everybody's On A Trip", has long been sought-after amongst collectors of intergalactic disco-funk, hence this reissue from the Backatcha crew. The title track is a downlow delight, with flanged guitar riffs, spacey synth lines, punchy horns and quality male vocals rising above a hot and heavy groove. Over on the flip "It Takes Two" is sweet, slow and dewy-eyed in the tried-and-tested tradition of B-side ballads.

Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

In practice, that means a saucer-eyed mixture of retro-futurist house treats (see jaunty opener "Harpo" and the Italo-house giddiness of "6Drops (Piano Mix)", loved-up deep electro (the spacey warmth of "Red Scorpions"), unashamed Larry Heard tributes ("Sunshine In The Limousine"), densely percussive peak-time workouts ("Enjoy This Limousine"), ragged acid ("6Drops (Technocid Mix)"), rushing Balearic synth-pop ("Sting Collins") and chiming, early '90s style ambient house (the beat free lusciousness of "Sonnen Ambiente").

Review: Sometimes, incredibly rare and expensive records don't live up to the hype. We can safely say that Gloria Ann Taylor's "Deep Inside You"- a superb, disco-era chunk of sexually charged soul - is not one of those records. Very few original copies were pressed, which not only explains the eye-watering second-hand prices but also the numerous bootlegs that have appeared over the years. This, then, is the record's first licensed reissue. It's worth picking up, not only for the sublime title track, but also for bonus cuts "What's Your World" - a laidback, super-sweet chunk of laidback West Coast soul - and the lushly orchestrated "Love Is A Hurting Thing".

Review: Soulful hip-hop beat-maker Waajeed's transformation into a Detroit deep house star continues apace, with the former Slum Village man's second EP for Dirt Tech Reck in as many months. He begins by doffing a cap to Theo and Moodymann on "Get Down", a shuffling, warm and dreamy workout full of rich disco bass, twinkling electric piano keys, gentle vocal samples and layered hand percussion. Confirmed summer jam "Through it All" is a breezy, string-laden bastion of piano-heavy positivity complete with bustling analogue bass and "Strings of Life" style solos, while B-side "Kingdom" sits somewhere between crunchy Chicago house, gospel and lilting Motor City deepness. Yes, please!

Review: British-born producer/DJ Christian 'Jay' Newman who now resides in techno mecca Berlin inaugurates his new Meld imprint (which he runs with some friends) with a four tracker that rides on the new wave of ex-minimal, retro-influenced techno/house. With a decent portfolio of releases for Idle Hands, Butter Side Up and NorthSouth, Newman is in great form here on the "Preservation EP". Whether it's the hyperware bleepy bounce of the title track, lo-slung UK breaks on "Greasy Spoon" or hypnotic afterhours tackle by closer "OJT", we foresee big things from this fledgling label. Fans of Time Passages, Pager or Limousine Dream will love this.

Review: Best strike Italo gold once again with this Maurizio 'Sangy' Sangineto production. The original of Valery Allington's Stop has more of a pop funk feel, giving the vocalist and her backing crew stacks of space to hit the right spot but the real magic here is Maurizio's production on the special electronic version and instrumental. Aeons ahead of its time, the relentless pump and near-majestic synth work sound closer to '92 than '82. Tunnelling, hypnotic, percussive and funky, this was - and still is - the sound of the future.

Review: Almost a year to the day since their last essential re-edit outing, Prescription Pricing Authority returns to G.A.M.M. with two more floor-friendly slabs of contemporary scalpel science. A-side "Pick 'Em Up" is a rolling, filter-sporting revision of a down-low disco-funk classic rich in bouncy pianos, soaring female chorus vocals, metronomic drums and punchy horns. It sounds like a peak-time monster in the making, which is never a bad thing. They up the tempo on flipside edit "Cali '76", a tidy, DJ-friendly rearrangement of a horn-sporting chunk of polyrhythmic jazz-funk that boasts some suitably spacey synth solos and horn lines sharper than your average razor.
