Minimal House/Tech House
Detente (6:34)
Dutchless (6:06)
Wallfall (6:25)
Review: The legendary Dutch producer Martijn Hoogendijk aka Alden Tyrell (of Clone Records fame) teams up here for some main room bangers with Berlin based American Kevin McHugh aka Ambivalent: who has had a productive past decade recording for such respected imprints as m_nus, Ovum Recordings and Kompakt in addition to running his Delft and Valence imprints - where he records as acid expert LA-4A. The Detente EP brings the furious warehouse style bounce of the title track (featuring some relentless drum work!), the dusty and greyscale dub techno workout of "Dutchless" and the totally heads down and strobe-lit affair of "Wallfall" that is reminiscent of Jell Mills seminal Waveform Transmissions series.

Sturm Bricht Los
Review: Yes! Dutch royalty Alden Tyrell and Ingmar Pauli re-engage their rarely seen Sumerian Fleet alliance after some two years of dormancy, gracing the equally release-shy Creme Eclipse branch of Creme Organization with the excellent Sturm Bricht Los EP. Arriving just in time for your Halloween discotheque needs, this four track release sticks to the creepy formula struck upon with their debut eponymous Clone West Coast emission, touching on everything from Adult to Fad Gadget to Minimal Wave ish and yet blessed with their own downtrodden touch. We can't top this description from the label themselves: "like someone finally removed those damn sunglasses from the Sisters of Mercy dude and showed him the world was an even sadder place than he imagined."

Review: Clone revisits their West Coast series with some vintage dark electro from Sumerian Fleet, a new project from Clone stalwarts Alden Tyrell and Mr Pauli. From the fuzzy haunting no wave stomp of "Jenseitsflugmaschine" to the sci fi synth bounce of "Dark Matter", Sumerian Fleet deliver some of the crispest sounding raw analogue electro we've had at Juno for some time.

Sherman Paradox (7:07)
Angular (5:07)
Review: Boom... We haven't even caught our breath from the last "Vorm Variaties" and along comes the second of what will be five 12"s. A project written over two years while Alden was off the road, these experiments take us right back to his early Clone jams; heavy, direct and no-nonsense techno funk. With its strong reverbed-rippled groove, "Sherman Paradox" it doffs its cap to Detroit so hard the hat implodes then rebuilds itself. "Angular" lives up to its name with a much rougher finish. Distorted, gritty and heading to a warehouse near you very soon...

Acid 7
Acid 7 (LA-4A remix)
Acid 3
Acid 3 (Vin Sol remix)
Review: Clone veteran Alden Tyrell - arguably one of the longest-serving analogue obsessives on the Dutch house/techno scene - has long been a reliable source of robust, stripped-back acid house. Here, he pops up on La-4a's Delft imprint with another serving of 303-heavy madness. "Acid 7" sounds like a long lost Phuture record, with drum machine handclaps injecting even more energy to Tyrell's 303-heavy groove. LA-4A utilizes 808 cowbells and sci-fi electronics on his similarly energetic and floor-friendly remix. Flip for "Acid 3", a Hieroglyphic Being style chunk of twisted acid madness - arguably the aural equivalent of being repeatedly punched in the guts by an armour-plated fist. Vin Sol takes a different approach on his remix, abandoning the 303 love in favour of DJ Rush style ghetto-house thrills.

Wurk It
Review: Dutch mainstay Alden Tyrell has turned his hand to many a different form of vintage house, techno and electro in his time, and on this occasion he's up on regular haunt Clone with some Dance Mania-inspired riot-baiting material. "Wurk It" makes a convincing case for the revival of ghetto house in the wake of the footwork explosion, going for maddening insistence in his vocal hook to get all asses wiggling, while the 303 is taking no prisoners either. "Some House" is excitable in its own way, matching any sample bashing with an equally catchy organ line that makes for an addictive and wonderfully simple house dish. The "Dub Mix" of "Some House" is no softer, instead choosing to lay off the wild splatter of speech and let the musical elements do the talking.

Rush
Tntus
Review: The name Alden Tyrell will be more familiar to long term advocates of the Clone Empire rather than those who might have been introduced to the myriad of Dutch labels in recent times by EPs from Untold and Blawan. That's mostly because the Dutch legend hasn't exactly been active of late in the old releasing records game, preferring to slip out the odd remix or concentrate on mammoth tasks like remastering the back catalogue of Drexciya for Clone. Those not so familiar with Tyrell could do worse than change that by starting with the two heaving slabs of monolithic techno that make up this mammoth contribution to the Clone Basement Series! There's a touch of Fachwerk to the growling tunnel-like groove of "Rush" which is offset by the rising key stabs which no doubt helped influence the title, while the excellently named "Tntus" sounds like it would consume your every last sense in the perfect environment - a dark, cramped basement with little light and plenty of speaker racks.

Splice
Project Piano
Review: The combination of Alden Tyrell and Clone pretty much sells itself, but regardless this two track 12" for the Jack For Daze offshoot is quite the treat. Both the T Project tracks here have been heavyweight secret weapons of the Dutch producer's live set for a while so kudos to the Clone decision makers for sweet talking Tyrell into letting the vinyl buying public enjoy the magic. Mood-wise, the dark industrial raw pump of A Side track "Splice" is offset by the glorious key flourishes that characterise B Side delight "Project Piano". As with the majority of Clone output, this is raw, simple, unadulterated body music to be enjoyed fully in the company of a very large soundsystem.

Deep House
Touch The Sky (original vox)
Touch The Sky (Gerd Double G mix)
Touch The Sky (International house mix)
Review: A lesson in simple mathematics: Alden Tyrell + Mike Dunn x Clone Jack For Dazed = you need to check this! Tyrell has been busy of late remastering the back catalogue of Drexciya for Clone, yet still finds time to come up with the excellent "Touch The Sky" for the Rotterdam empire's crucial sub label. Little more than the distinctive tones of Dunn freestyling over a f******* huge acid riff and thumping kicks, the track's simplistic composition is outweighed heavily by just how devastatingly effective it is. 4Lux boss Gerd steps out of his Geeeman costume for a remix that evens out the kinks of the original while Tyrell and Clone boss Serge go in the opposite direction on the International House mix which lays down some classic piano lines where the acid was and severely fucks with the vocal programme. Such a good record.

Luv Thang (feat Jessy Allen)
Girls Can't Swim
Luv Thang (instrumental)
Review: Two mainstays of the Dutch electro-techno scene join forces here and somewhat predictably the results are chunky. The title track is a no-holds-barred beast, riding on a rollicking rhythm of swung drums while being anchored by a monstrous bassline that makes for a neat juncture between vintage electro and Chicago house, with some hooky vocals from Jessy Allen thrown in for good measure. "Girls Can't Swim" is a trackier affair, working a similar jerking groove with slithers of synthesised interference flitting around the rock solid drums. With an instrumental cut of "Luv Thang" chucked in for good measure, it's hard to find fault with this latest emission from Gerd's 4 Lux imprint.
