Review: Although most readily associated with Hypercolour, Unknown To The Uknown and his own Bodytrax imprint, Chris "Bodyjack" Finke is a regular contributor to the Dext Recordings' growing catalogue. In fact, this is his third release for the imprint since 2016. Head first to A-side "Nataraja", a polyrhythmic onslaught that pits twisted electronics, raw stabs and ricocheting drum machine cowbells against a rumbling bassline and heavy, broken techno style drums. Finke flips the script entirely on the flip, delivering a gut-punching electro workout that flits between sparkling, melodic sections and periods of foreboding heaviness straight out of Drexciya's post-apocalyptic playbook.

Review: It's no surprise that Chris Finke's latest Bodyjack release takes inspiration from electronic music's recent past, eg the '90s. However, the seamless manner in which he integrates these influences with modern house and techno are impressive. The title track features a menacing, time stretched bass unravelling over a choppy rhythm and tough drums, while on "Hydra Effect" the ghostly vocal of a lost raver echoes around the steely rhythm. Best of all is "Slowine Effect"; like the title track, it plunders the bass archives, and on this occasion it sounds like Random Noise Generation's "Falling in Dub" was the source material. Coupled with a vocal that sounds like it is repeating the name 'snow white' when it's probably just 'slowine', 33 it has hat magical lost sound.

Review: Already a favourite with many underground DJs, this release from Chris Finke's new moniker celebrates the sound and spirit of Chicago house on the title track. Thumping beats, doubled up claps, relentless snare rolls and a bass so heavy and grainy that it could loosen bowels involuntarily at twenty paces mark this out as a particulalrly lethal serving of retro-ghetto. Bodyjack isn't about dwelling in the future though, and "I Wanna Be" sees him delivering a stepping, swinging rhythm and dark techno chords that underpin the vocal claim that "I'm gonna be right there" - just as soon as Finke finishes rewiring garage and house music's circuits that is.
