Soligen & Type-2 - "Can't Go" (Break remix) (6:07)
Break - "Coming 4 U" (5:16)
Jade - "What You Are" (Break remix) (5:05)
Review: The legendary Fokuz label outta the Netherlands hits a 110th release and opts for a selection of remixes from various artists. AirK & Cephei open up with 'Desire,' a slick roller with booming bass and epic synths. Break then comes through with tight remix of A2 Soligen & Type 2 's 'Can't Go' complete with expertly design hits. Break then goes it alone on the original 'Coming 4U' with its low end oscillations and closes out the EP back in remix mode. His take on 'What Are You' is a roaming, textural affair with twisted leads and flurries of toms.

Charlie Bierman returns with his fifth studio album and all is well with the world - The Digital World, that is. Featuring the likes of Singing Fats (RIP), Charli Brix, Fox, Lorna King, Liam Bailey and SP:MC, it's an exercise in how to smash every shade of full vocal d&b without losing a spec of focus from the dancefloor or the underground essence of this music. It's the sound Break has been carving diligently for many years now but honed and refined even more. From the most subtle of soulful pieces (the trembling sounds of 'Lost') to darkest of damagers (the gully grizzler 'Box Clever') this is an exceptional body of work from one of drum & bass music's most prominent benchmark setters.

Keepin' It Raw (Calyx & Teebee remix) (4:03)
Conversations (feat MC Fats & Cleveland Watkiss - Breakage remix) (3:45)
Review: Break's 2018 stepper 'Keep in It Raw' gets some special remix treatment here to close down the series. Calyx & Teebee step up first and layer in plenty of menace, with saw tooth synths bringing the sort of textures that are befitting of the tune's name. The crispy, stepping drum breaks are ever on the move and soulful hints come from the buried vocals. ON the flip, Breakage steps up with his take on 'Conversations' feat MC Fats & Cleveland Watkiss. It's a tune laced with fizzing static electricity, dub wise vocals and fantastic fills. Turn it up loud.

Break - "Whispers In My Ear" (feat MC GQ - Break remix) (4:16)
Break & Total Science - "Dog's Dinner" (Mefjus remix) (4:16)
Review: MC GQ has a pedigree that stretches all the way back to the early jungle nights of AWOL and his presence on this new version of Whispers In My Ear by Break shows he can imprint his personality on a piece of vinyl with a bare minimum of chatting. That's how good he is. Break knows what he's doing too, and his the gnarly electronic harmonics and descending one note bass riff, combined with fresh sounding, spacious breakbeat action, make this the kind of workout that DJs will build their set around dropping. Dog's Dinner with Total Science gets remixed by Mefjus in powerful fashion too, a little more roughneck perhaps than its A-side companion, but a choice selection of ruthlessly applied sonics all the same.

Got A Feelin' (4:31)
Sesame Seeds (5:23)
Review: Symmetry bossman and all-round don Break barges into 2020 with his first fresh produce of the decade and it's not a moment too soon. "Got A Feelin'" weighs in on the groany sewer sounds that are still characterising the genre right now, but done in a subversive, gritty funk way that's unique to him. Flip for some serious sample schooling. Returning to the source of one of jungle's most well-favoured breaks (the clue's in the title) and making new edits using different parts of the record, it's a true breakbeat odyssey with all the subs and detuned stabs a classic jungle hat-tip could ever wish for. Break it down.

Review: Utopia are back with a long-awaited release and what's more, it's from the mighty Break! Pretty much only seen on his Symmetry label these days, here he returns to Mako's buy-on-sight imprint with two sides to his universally loved sound. "Gunpowder", as you might expect, is a snarling, gnarly electrified piece of high voltage tech-edged rollage while "The Way Things Are" is much deeper, spacious piece where the drums scream jazz and the subs do more talking the louder you play this. Near perfect.

Take Me Away (5:14)
Review: Given his impressive track record and length of service, you'd expect Break's latest full-length - his first studio set for three years - to be pretty darn hot. It is, of course, with the Symmetry Recordings owner gleefully flitting between jazz-funk tinged soulful rollers ("Last Goodbye"), ruffneck revivalist jungle ("Keepin' It Raw", "Jungle Desire"), on-point dancefloor collaborations (Total Science hook-up "Dog's Dinner" and DLR hoe-down "City Slickers"), skanking D&B steppers ("Conversations"), deep and picturesque liquid funk ("The Edge of Time") and frenetic, bass-heavy smashers ("Sunset Dub" and the suitably snappy retro-futurism of "Time To Fly"). It is, then, a pretty impressive, on-point collection of razor-sharp D&B club cuts.

Review: Break's fifth album Another Way is about drop and this is the second teaser of what's to come. First up is "Conversations", a spacious digidub wonder that taps into Break's classic reggae sound (think "Love So True") and is charmed to smithereens by Fats and Watkiss. Meanwhile "Alpha" goes right back to Break's relentless tear up sessions with one of the most brutal basslines he's done in years. And we thought his previous release "Keepin It Raw" was big...

Review: Break: the man, the myth, the monstrously prolific producer finally delivers his third album... And it's every bit as juicy, soulful, savage and unique as you'd expect it to be. Joined by the likes of longstanding vocalist Kyo, old friends DLR and Xtrah and the some of the finest dulcets any MC has ever sung (Fats, naturally), Break's collection treads the fine line between home listening heaven and back-to-back DJ-ready bangers. Highlights? How does 'every track' sound to you. Specifically, though, "Free Your Mind" (with the aforementioned Fats) is up there with "Love So True", "Confidential" stabs and zaps like an updated version of early Bad Company while "Late Exclusives" has amens so finely diced and EQ'd you could power a jet with them. But then what else would you expect from the Symmetry captain?

Brand New (5:47)
Review: Break's long-awaited third album is getting closer and closer by the sampler. We don't need to the hype it; the word couplet of Break and album is self-hyping enough to all who know their D&B. We don't even need to hype these tracks; "Free Your Mind" opens with a lush "Love So True" style reggae refrain before dropping into free-flowing rolling gold topped by Fats instantly distinctive harmonies. "Brand New" opens with heavenly chords before dropping into a deliciously rough and angular groove. Classic Break, both of these kill it on all corners. Bring on the album!

Soldier
Review: What can we say about Break that hasn't already been said? This man is D&B mythology - every producer name checks, every DJ represents, every soldier on the dancefloor knows that Break equals neck-snapping quality of the highest order. Both tunes on this release are, it goes without saying, superb, but both come from different dark places. "Groove With it" is the stepper you want, "Soldier" is the heavy, bottomed-out, snare-flailing danger zone you need. Drum and bass for the connoisseur who still likes to get messed up when it suits. Beautiful.

On The Off
Review: Ah Break... Will you ever cease to deliver genuinely unique grooves that echo with all corners, shades and styles of D&B? We truly hope not. "Moving On" instantly slaps with its distinctive snare rolls and fuzzy purring bassline. The second those trumpets, flutes and soft key dustings ooze gracefully into the mix, you're putty in Break's hands. "On The Off" shows the Bristol producer's darker command as we grind and grimace to an ugly, jaunty off-beat bassline and another solid set of perfectly produced drums. Naturally both kill it. You won't be moving on from these for a long, long time.

Soundwaves
Review: A much loved figure across the D&B spectrum, Break brings us his next utterance on none other than Critical Music, who are enjoying their time in the limelight at the moment, following Kasra's recent Fabriclive mix. Here, we see Break doing what he does best in "Here We Go" as he goes in hard and fast, with pounding bass; those unmistakable Break er, breaks; and plenty of fury in the grinding synths which pepper this spectacular release. "Soundwaves", in some ways a slightly less intense cut, pairs a muffled reggae vocal, with almost impenetrable sub bass and low-end frequencies.

Review: Engine Music finally step up with their third release with a solid 12" by Break. On the a-side you have "Follow The Heat", a track reminiscent of the Sunday Sessions (in our humble opinion) yet rejuvenated for 2007. Tight, crisp beats and luscious strings lead up to sinister bass stabs then drops into what we describe as a gritty piece of funk. On the flip we have "External" which shows exactly what this man is known for - minimal techno rollers.

Bonafide soul badness, everything about this record is bliss as both the iconic vocalists harmonise with total messages of unity. "We Are The People" is almost gospel in its intentions while "Midnite Classic" takes us a little deeper into the night with more of Break's classic roughhouse funk foundation. Break - "Longed Out"
Dan Intrinsic - "Lost Cause"
Review: We all knew it was gonna happen, but we just couldn't wait any longer. The unstoppable Break has returned to the Revolution fold to twist out some more mind warping flavas. Break's last excursion on the label 'Spirits' is still getting smashed all over the world, and 'Longed Out' is set to do the same. Break is joined by newcomer, Dan Intrinsic who is a part of the hotly tipped Do The Math crew, currently causing a stir with Marcus Intalex. 'Longed out' is another musical blueprint that firmly stamps this young producer's name on the scene for years to come. Trademark funk-injected breaks, epic Asian samples and a deadly warping b-line combine to create something very special indeed. 'Lost Cause' is a vocal-tinged, grimey piece of 21st-century soul that exudes nothing but vibes. The heart-wrenching vox sample blends perfectly with the intricate soundscapes and rumbling bass tones on this one. Hold tight for the next Revolutionary assault coming soon! DJ support from Friction, Ed Rush, Calyx, Klute, Trace, Vicious Circle, Muffler.

Label boss Break naturally features quite prominently on the six track release and Symmetry have decided to pull two highlights from the Sessions for this 12" sampler. Given that a remix of Break is a rare thing, it's no surprise that the highly prized Calibre relick of "They're Wrong" lines the A Side, rolling effortlessly towards the run out groove in a fashion that Calibre does so well. Review: Drum & bass don Break comes through with the 11th release on his own Symmetry imprint, splitting duties with newcomer Emperor on the crucial double "A Condensor/Network". Calling shotgun, Break drops a perfect example of why he's so revered in the current climate when the epic "Condensor" is in full flow - few other producers out there possess the craft to make a track with such bewitching levels of detail to the drum textures and deviant strains of bass that snake forth with dark intent. Complementing this, "Network" has Emperor in expansive mood, darkside glitches disturbing the calm of a bristling soundscape and forcing the track into stilted progression, this new name on the scene demonstrating his talent for micro drum edits and low set bass lines.

Headed by Exposure the forward-thinking label strike more barbed soul gold on their third release. Break takes the lead with a white knuckle spacefunk of "Solvent". Respected by all sides of the game, his on-point balance of a funk and true grit has united us for over a decade and he's about to drop a brand new full-lengther of his own productions and remixes to celebrate. All genre A-listers, it's one of those release schedule entries that's guaranteed to get everyone excited, and thankfully the pudding is just as tasty as those ingredients. Break & Kyo lead the charge with 'Past North', a summertime anthem-in-the-making opening on acoustic guitar chords that wouldn't sound weird on a Me One record. Definitely one for festivals, boxfresh percussion ensures it fully fires off once the poppier elements temporarily subside. That said, DJ Marky's 'Hard Hands' trumps it for crisp drum work, delivering some typically exotic vibes. Ill Truth and Satl's 'In Your Soul', or at least its Lenzman remix, keeps the sexy and smooth warmth alive, with '3 Way' closing out on a dub-influenced tip courtesy of Total Science and FD.

Yes, the man is a powerhouse and manages to share a seemingly endless supply of his own brand of break-laden tunes year after year; but that don't mean he burns out, it means he fires up. Since 2003, the Intrigue crew has been providing Bristol clubbers with regular doses of liquid funk and musically expansive drum and bass, first at their regular parties and, since 2008, on their offshoot label. Predictably, there's much to enjoy on this celebratory 12". Superior Selectionz & Ben Soundscape - "Justa" (5:37)
Roygreen & Protone & Ben Soundscape - "Ruffneck" (5:39)
Luch & Joakuim - "Lifespan" (5:41)
Review: Since 2003, the Intrigue crew has been providing Bristol clubbers with regular doses of liquid funk and musically expansive drum and bass, first at their regular parties and, since 2008, on their offshoot label. Predictably, there's much to enjoy on this celebratory 12". Old pal Break steps up first with a veritable warm summer breeze of a roller, "Mind's Eye" - all punchy, snare-heavy beats, acoustic guitars, rumbling bass and dreamy freestyle vocals - before Superior Selectionz and Ben Soundscape join forces for the slightly more weighty but no less attractive "Justa". Over on side B, Soundscape returns to action alongside Ryogreen and Protone on the wobble bass-propelled stepper "Ruffneck", while Lurch - a lesser-known stalwart of the Bristol scene - delivers some delicious, Afro-tinged liquid funk alongside Joakuim. Rock solid.

Break & Survival - "Stano"
Survival - "Going Over"
Review: Clash of the modern day titans right here as Break and Survival collide for a sizzling workout of glitchy, steppy riddims. As you'd expect from the pair, "Stano" is sharper than a drag queen's put downs and full of interesting sonic twists and turns. Fans of both Symmetry and Dispatch output should go mental for it. Flipwise we find Survival going solo for "Going Over". A deeper, more quintessential rolling affair, check those meaty one-note subs and you'll be all over this. Heavyweight stuff.

Aardvark (4:55)
Review: The story of Triii continues as Break and Total Science continue to ramp up their new co-lab imprint with two more powerful link-ups. 'Blame You' is all about those warm dubby vibes. Soul stirring vocals and a big old sausage of a bassline; like all of their collaborations, you can hear both acts' sounds so clearly in this. 'Aardvark' follows with even more oomph and ooh-la-la. Big on the ravey vocal sample and even bigger on the turbine bass drone; this one is going to enjoy a lot of heavy rotations over festival season. Wowzers.

Gun Finger (4:47)
Acquiesce (4:32)
Review: Break and Total Science first worked together back in 2019, delivering the well-received 'Dog's Dinner'. Here they re-ignite their cross-generational production partnership with a fine two-tracker, which also marks the debut of their new jointly owned label, Triii Audio. Lead cut 'Gunfinger' is particularly potent, with the trio doffing a cap to drum & bass's soundsystem culture roots. The track not only contains pitched-down sections of sampled reggae grooves, but also ragga-jungle era vocal samples, crunchy and retro-futurist breakbeats, and bass so warped and gnarly it may be capable of blowing speaker stacks. Flipside 'Acquiesce' is a moody and punchy affair, with soundman bleeps, echoing vocal snippets, rasping rave noises and creepy chords rising above foreboding bass and blistering beats.

Cern, Dose & Teknik - "Huntville"
Break - "Freak"
Mindscape & Jade - "Orion"
Calibre - "Student Music"
Review: Klute's imperious Commercial Suicide proffer the third double vinyl sampler pack from the excellent label compilation CD that slipped out in the final moments of 2011. Across the 48 inches of wax present there are some exclusive and naturally heavyweight contributions from some of Commercial Suicide's finest artists with Cern, Dose & Teknik teaming up on the opening track "Huntville" with suitably explosive results - not least the nuclear strength bass line that ripples throughout menacingly. Alongside it Break goes all 25th Century tech step on the quite brilliant "Freaks" whilst "Orion" occupies similar space whilst focusing on a more grinding bassline. The ever excellent Calibre ensures that age old adage about best till last is pertinent here with the paranoid steppahs delight of "Student Music" a considered highlight.

DLR & Break - "We'll See"
DLR - "Tugboat"
Review: Following the heavyweight Transit 2 compendium comes another essential couplet from Ant-TC1's Dispatch brand. "We'll See" sees DLR team up with the matchless Break. One of D&B's most venerated producers, he nails everything he touches - including this richly textured stepper which offers something new on every listen. DLR goes solo for "Tugboat" on the B; straight up in-your-face steppery with serious attention to detail on the bass, it's got every bit of power its name suggests. Get tugging....

DLR & Break - "Hit The Target" (5:38)
DLR - "NADS" (4:11)
Review: Dream team Klaxon! Two titans in the game Break and DLR collide once again for 'Hit The Target'. An ode to the late 90s Bristol sound, all stripped-back, full of shakers and ludicrously funky, its understated funk worms its way deeper and deeper into your soul on every 16. 'NADS' on the B sees DLR swinging his sack in a much grimier, grizzly way. Think early 2000 Dispatch but with added crunch. Cover your sensitive areas.

DLR & Script - "Electronic Heroin" (5:41)
Review: Sofa Sound make themselves all nice and comfy with this fat slab of wax. Both sides pull serious weight; DLR, Break and Randall's modern day anthem 'Song & Dance' gets the VIP treatment, kicking even more like a funky mule than it did before. Then on the B we have DLR and SCAR member Script get all gouched out and wavy with 'Electronic Heroin'. Previously only available on digital, it nods heavily in the direction of Detroit and Soul;r. We've said it before, we will no doubt say it again; Sofa, so good.

DLR & Ulterior Motive - "Modules" (5:07)
Review: Sit down sounds with stand-up grooves: DLR's Sofa Sounds hits its sophomore stride with two more absolute gems. "Song & Dance" should be known to all by now; heavily rotated on dub for at least six months, this powerhouse collab between DLR, Break and the don Randall is real a quintessential funk jam underpinned with a heavy toxic, sludgy bassline. "Modules" on the flip is suitably darker and techier as Ulterior Motive join the fray resulting in an unrelenting techno-style jam that suddenly opens out into much funkier territories when you least expect it. Sofa, so good.

Review: Shogun knows how to throw a party... Their "100" celebrations started in March and they're still going strong three months later! A chance for the label's artists and friends to stretch their skills and signatures, there's been some really exciting, subversion work throughout the series. This final piece in the puzzle is no exception; Fourward deliver their funkiest track to date, Karma gets all soulful, Total Science get all drifty and ethereal while Break simply reminds us why we love him. All four cuts glistening with long-lasting gold, Shogun can carry on celebrating their 100th release for as long as they like as far as we're concerned.

Kyo & Onemind - "Play To Lose" (6:21)
Review: One of Break's most consistent and striking vocal collaborators, Kyo gets the Symmetry spotlight with this A-list collabo EP. "Who Decides" sparks up the dance with an electrified high voltage sneering bassline and loose percussion that only Break can cook up. "Murder Tonight" is a lot sexier than its title suggests thanks to Kyo's surging tones and Total Science's expert manipulation of the think break. "Where I Stand" sees Kyo teaming up with Mikal for the most stripped back and steppy affair while DLR and Mako's OneMind unit join her for the final, and darkest, chapter of the EP "Play To Lose" where Kyo hits her gutsiest, rawest soul notes. No decision necessary.

The Question
Review: "See for me this is Michael Caine, cliff-top road, south of France, open top E-Type Jag, boot full of gold bullion after the heist. This time it worked" - Mary Ann Hobbs, Radio 1. Not a bad introduction, and its not unwarranted in this instance, perhaps the most anticipated release on the label so far. 'Hollow' is a slick, brooding roller which has received a heavy amount of airplay and club support. 'The Question' has been described by many as DNAudio meets Full Cycle, a bouncy dancefloor workout that has been big in the boxes of Friction, Noisia and Pendulum among a host of others over the last year. DJ Support from: Goldie, Bailey, Zinc, ED Rush, Dieselboy, Teebee, Calyx, Klute, D Bridge, Fierce, Upbeats, Phace, Loxy, Dylan, Commix, Kasra, Chase & Status, Vicious Circle, Tactile, Skitty, Kryptic Minds and more. "DNAudio continue to patiently release good strong 12"s and this is another fine notch in their catalogue". (ATM 7/10)

Review: While the mighty Aswad once told us "Don't Turn Around", the even mightier Total Science have now advised us to "Turn Around"... And with its dreamy cosmic synths, surging vocal and classic snare rolling jungle break, we know whose orders we're going to believe. The fun doesn't stop there as the all star cast continues... Break joins the party for the bone-rattling Headzy tear-up "Big Time Winners", Calibre jumps on the remix tip with a delicate lilting twist on the Riya-fronted "Walk The Same Lines" and DLR taps in for the heads-down, purring-sub stepper "Too Close For Comfort". Heavyweight and high grade, this is an incredible EP.
