Disco/Reediciones
  1. Get On Your Feet (5:31)
  2. The Solution (5:52)
  3. Disco Gang (5:51)
  4. Doing The Boogie (5:59)
Review: Last year saw Greek edit wunderkind C Da Afro drop two joints on Cardiology amongst a whole load more discofied party fodder for the likes of SpinCat, Sound Exhibitions and more besides. Now he's back on Cardiology with even more goodies to share with the people in the place, leading in with intention through the rabble rousing 'Get On Your Feet'. He's working the filter hard on 'The Solution', teasing the funk until that sweet release on the drop. 'Disco Gang' whips up Backlash's classic '81 stomper 'Hang With The Gang' and gives it a gentle house injection, while 'Doing The Boogie' burrows deep into the groove for a simmering cut to keep the crowd loose and limber.

Afro Disiac EP
Afro Disiac EP (limited heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: SMS 017. Rel: 18 May 20
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Afro-Disiac (6:04)
  2. Smoothie (6:03)
  3. Brazilian Groove (De Gama Re-Groove) (6:53)
Review: There should be no end to the amount of sunny afro disco tunes in your collection. Italian label Samosa are always happy to help with that and this latest outing by C. Da Afro is a perfect collision of soul and funk, jazz and afro styles. Opener "Afro-Disiac"'s horn leads, sultry sax lines and dub disco beats are perfection. "Smoothie" goes further with a bristling and earthy energy conjured by plenty of jangling rhythms and organic percussive sounds before the pumping and celebratory sounds of De Gama's "Re-Groove" of "Brazilian Groove" closes things out in fine fashion. Authentic, lovably loose and impossibly radiant stuff.

Watermelon Jam
  1. C Da Afro - "That Funky Horn" (5:42)
  2. Munky Fike, Alexny - "Acapulco" (6:14)
  3. Disco Endeavours - "So High" (6:26)
  4. Vagabundo Club Social - "El Misterio" (6:00)
  5. Pookie Knights - "Feelin's Mutual" (5:46)
  6. Nnatn - "Magia Du Samba" (7:01)
Review: Some V/As are dubious in their length, seeming to span both EP and mini-compilation length in equal measure, but not this one, which definitely seems to know what it's about. Moiss Music are no stranger to this format, here presenting their second vinyl release 'Watermelon Jam' after the first EP-length four tracker, 'Strawberry Jam'. Nu-disco, funk and house is the name of the game once again, and the tone is set by C Da Afro's 'That Funky Horn' via sample-filtering soul and raucous trumpets. The vocal cuts on this record are among its highlights; Disco Endeavours' 'So High' carries Brandy-esque chirps along a funking house backdrop, while the best of the bunch - 'Feelin's Mutual' by Pookie Knights - channels Carmen or Sylvester in its syrupy refrains and jet-set arps. Even a samba house bit closes it off - a swell all-rounder.

Discipline Of Swing Vol 2
Discipline Of Swing Vol 2 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: SSWVNLZD 002. Rel: 29 Mar 21
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Hotmood - "Seductive Look" (5:34)
  2. C Da Afro - "Time To Move" (6:03)
  3. Ziggy Phunk - "Space Ranger" (6:44)
  4. Alexny - "Umbele" (6:48)
Review: The See-Saw label calls up a hit list of disco edit dynamos to bring a little party rocking magic to their latest 12", leading in with the looped up funk of Hotmood. 'Seductive Look' is the perfect insistent groove to get lost in, which contrasts with the bold and feisty 'Time To Move' by C Da Afro. Keeping things mixed up on the B side, Ziggy Phunk brings something special in the pattering, bongo-laden roller 'Space Ranger'. Alexny rounds things off with the low slung thwack and transcendent sax of 'Umbele', a track humming with the energy of Afrobeat at its source.

  2. Castle Queenside & Igor Gonya - "All In Good Time" (5:31)
  3. Saint Paul - "Get Down" (6:30)
  4. C Da Afro - "Come Inside" (5:41)
Review:
Monsieur Van Pratt kicks off the third Moiss Music vinyl with an electronic bolt of funk - 'More Love, Less Greed' oozes funk and disco vibes to get your booty shaking. Castle Queenside and Igor Gonya then team up to bring you a groove of hypnotic vocals and clever strings which is all about that old-school disco vibe. Saint Paul drops a funkadelic track in 'Get Down' where funky baselines lead with groovy keys - listen out for that cow bell which keeps the track bopping along. C. Da Afro completes the funky disco EP, closing it with 'Come Inside' - a fusion of percussion and funk with beautiful keys to keep it gliding along.

  2. Sartorial - "Ruby" (6:27)
  3. Phazed Groove - "It Must Be Luv" (5:18)
  4. C Da Afro - "PlayHouse" (6:11)
Review: With only a few months between releases, Tropical Disco have gone from zero to disco heroes in just over 18 months. And it's not hard to hear why; proper digging, chunky cuts and full dancefloor focus as the label founders Sartorial (Alex Sartori) and Moodena (Tim Burnett) invite two new label crewmates to the party deck; Phazed Groove and C Da Afro. Each sailor bringing a different vibe from pure, uncut boogie to thumping Chi-town jazz-licked house, it's yet another perfect voyage. Balmy army!

Tropical Disco Records Vol 20 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: TDISCO 020. Rel: 10 Nov 20
Disco/Reediciones
  1. Paul Older - "Nothing" (6:32)
  2. Tung Sol - "One For Frida" (6:06)
  3. Sartorial - "Shiva's Chant" (6:03)
  4. C Da Afro - "Street Jam" (6:05)
Review: Tropical Disco marks hitting release number 20 with a brilliant four track various artists affair that offers up plenty of the colourful and cosmic disco sounds they have become so well known and loved for. Paul Older kick off with 'Nothing,' which is a rolling and trumpet laced jam to fill the floor. 'One For Frida' gets more deep and dubby, with more big horns but a flabbier and more silky groove to sink into. On the flip, it's all majestic leads and noodling solos for the twinkling disco sounds of the late night roller 'Shiva's Chant' while 'Street Jam' closes out in smooth, string laced and seductive fashion.

Groove Engine
Groove Engine (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: CARDIOLOGY 010. Rel: 31 Jan 22
Disco/Reediciones
  1. The Owl - "Groove Engine" (4:19)
  2. C Da Afro - "I'm Gonna" (5:37)
Review: A tasty pair of chunky, beefed and dubbed up disco delights courtesy of the Cardiology label and every bit as likely to get the heart rate pumping as the name would suggest. The Owl's 'Groove Engine' steps up to the breach on the A-side, the slightly slower of the pair but blessed with a thumping framework of four-to- the-floor sturdiness on which funky keys and an almost Afro vibe are tastfully and decoratively hung. Flip track 'I'm Gonna' by C Da Afro is constructed from more archetypically traditional old skool disco ingredients, from the Sister Sledge-esque female vocals to the shooting, strings. There's a nice amount of dub behaviour via the desk, enough to elevate it into orbit but not so much that the song elements of the track are obscured. Nice work all round.
