  1. Borai - "The Rejection"
  2. Deep88 - "Works"
  3. Oliver Deutschmann - "Straight Up My All"
  4. Freestyle Man - "Give It To Me"
Review: It's been a while since we heard anything from Bristol's best dressed chicken in town Borai, so it's great to see him leading the way on this second edition of the Jackoff Beats series from Berlin label Jackoff Records. Indeed this is Boris English's second contribution to the series, having appeared on last year's inaugural 12" alongside Iron Curtis and Oli Deutschmann. "The Rejection" demonstrate's Borai's lost none of his production verve for emotionally loaded house music and sets a high bar for what follows. Deep88 rolls deep on a lo fi filtered disco flex with the excellent "Works" whilst Oliver Deutchsmann also maintains his 100% Jackoff Beats appearance record with the stripped down acid burner "Straight Up My All". A welcoming titular vocal hook is the key element around which the Freestyle Man lays down a classic dusty house groove on the closing "Give It To Me".

  1. Dadame - "Pression"
  2. Deep88 - "Blue Network"
Review: With their respective stars on the rise Dadame and Deep88 inaugurate the Bengala imprint with a pair of distinctive house cuts that promise much for the future. Dadame is up first with "Pression", which skips on a healthily swung beat made up from thin slithers of drums but offset by a sizable acid bassline that makes this one heavy grooving track. Deep88 meanwhile head into very different territory, keeping the groove on the straight and narrow and letting weighty pads and notes swell up in the track for a contemplative deep house track that counterbalances the cheeky groove of the A side perfectly.

  5. The Vibe (Jimini remix)
Review: After the first two 12"s from label founder Deep88 himself, ASCII Records turns to a whole host of different characters to remix those tracks with some stunning and varied results. Luis CL is up first, taking a decidedly mellow approach to "Harmony" that tips into a heavy lidded early 90s deep house mood perfectly, while RNR take the Robert Owens-featuring "Believe In You" and make it into a stirring, tense but ultimately emotional acid-laced floor track. Rhythm 2 Soul do a gentle job on "La Beija", MHCrew take a Larry Heard-esque approach on "Rotation" and Jimini lets the space in the mix tell its own story.

Review: Alessandro Passini's most recent full-length under the Deep88 alias, The Black Album, was a fine collection of analogue-rich deep house containing a wealth of club-ready material. Less than six months on from the release of that set, he's at it again, serving up a solid mini-album of straight-up deep house delights. Highlights come thick and fast, from the Balearic era, piano-laden positivity of "Too Many Notes" and fluid "Track 4" - all acid bass, spacey pads and bustling melody lines - to the chunkier grooves and hazier lead lines of straight-to-tape jam "L'Archivo", and jackin' but dreamy "Tape 2". Due to the prevailing retro-futurist vibe, it feels a little like a long-lost EP from the early '90s, which is no bad thing.

Review: Alessandro "Deep88" Pasini is one of deep house's unsung heroes; a producer who consistently delivers enjoyable, club-ready material, but for whom wider acclaim has proved elusive. Perhaps The Black Album, his third solo album, will bring him the credit he deserves. Certainly, it's a hugely enjoyable set, with Pasini laying down a tight selection of warm, rich and evocative cuts variously influenced by late '80s Italian deep house, Chicago jack-tracks, Larry Heard, early Nu Groove releases, and the shuffling grooves of New Jersey garage. Pasini's penchant for using vintage samplers, synths and drum machines guarantees that his loving tributes are always on-point, and boast the kind of pleasing looseness that can only be attained by using original analogue hardware.

  4. 2000 Balloons (6:12)
Review: Alessandro Pasini, or known as Deep88 when he pulls his dance face, has been putting out music largely through his own 12Records over the last six years, but he's making an outside appearance for the US' Juice Records this week, a mighty fine addition to his now impressive catalogue. He's in house mode and the Italian delivers the A-side in the form of "Wow & Flute", a Pal Joey kinda joint with a laid-back approach, and the much heavier, stomped-out house killah that is "Don't Believe The House Hype". On the flip, there's deeper and wonkier moments on the Slow Porn remix of "Summer", but also a load of heavier house experimentation on the utterly stoned "2000 Balloons". A house tip for you, that's for sure.

Review: Zomarec and 12Records founder Alessandro Pasini is having a productive year, having previously released strong singles with Melchior Sultana and Robert Owners. The Girl Who Hates 909 Kick EP is a decidedly deep and warm affair, with vintage sounding synthesizers, grooves and basslines the order of the day. Amongst the chunky, retro-futirist grooves and eyes-wide-shut melodies (see "What Is Love" and the excellent "The Warning") you'll find a pair of sublime, Simoncino-ish moments of clarity. There's "We Need Raw", a dreamy study in bubbling analogue-sounding deep house, and "Schlagsahne", a blissful combination of drifting melodies and unfussy, oven-hot grooves.

Review: On this companion piece to 2011 debut album collecting dust, Italian producer Alessandro Pasini shows signs of development. While there are clear nods to his warm nu-disco past (most notably "Grancartridge", which samples Serious Intention's proto-house classic "You Don't Know"), much of Removing Dust is dedicated to his clear passion for tactile deep house. So, we get the E'd-up retro-futurism of "Salsa House", the drifting "Trembling H" and the dreamy "La Beija". There are curveballs, too, including a straight-up dub track ("Stories (The Sghembo Dub)") and a curious deep-pop cover of Moloko classic "Sing It Back".

Review: Deep88 deals in dust; last year saw him Collecting Dust for a debut album on 12 Records and now the Italian producer presents Removing Dust, a five track 12" that precedes his forthcoming second album of the same name later this year. Proceedings commence with the frequency and channel test signature experimenting of "Grancartridge" which would probably sound better within the context of listening to an album than on the floor of a club, though the latter is the perfect environment for "The Vibe". A perfectly judged slice of 90s house nostalgia that rattles along with the kind of panache absent from many other current attempts. On the flip Deep88 goes all dusty on the delightfully loose sounding "100% Kamelhaar", indulges in some Sex Tags style rough drum trax on "Thor Ens Funk" and ends in dreamy fashion with "Like A Trembling H" - see if you can spot the killer sample!

Review: On paper, this looks like a match made in heaven. On one side of the studio, experienced Italian deep house don Deep88; on the other, soul-loving Detroit house sort Javonnte. In its original form, "Fly Away" offers a superb hybrid of both producers' styles, with Javonnte's impassioned vocal and rolling beats working well with Deep88's Larry Heard style chords and bassline. Deep88 gets a chance to explore this avenue further on his dreamy and on-point Adriatic Mix, while Javonnte weighs in with a slightly chunkier Dub. Arguably best of all, though, is the seductive jazziness and soul-flecked deep house positivity of Melchior Sultana's impeccable rework.

Review: For his latest full-length excursion, Italian producer Alessandro 'Deep88' Pasini has joined forces with Maltese deep house sort, composer and multi-instrumentalist Melchior Sultana. In many ways, it's a match made in heaven. Sultana's impeccable playing and compositional skills are evident throughout (see the note-perfect piano solo that lifts "Yo House" into a Balearic deep house gem), and perfectly compliment Pasini's classic Italian and US house influences. It's an impressively musically rich set, all told, full of warm chords, evocative melodies, drowsy pads and shuffling grooves. While there are heavy dancefloor moments - see the saucer-eyed "Days Go By" and "Chicago" - for the most part it's a horizontal house treat.

Review: After several collaborative releases with Melchior Sultana, 12 Records boss Deep88 celebrates reaching the cat no 1210 by opening up some of these productions to some high profile remixes. To call getting a remix from Ben Cenac's Dream 2 Science project a coup is an understatement and anyone who enjoyed his genre defining self-titled release that was reissued by Rush Hour will certainly find much appeal in the New Yorker's sumptuous take on "Nightwave". Rising Australian producer Andras Fox remixes "Yo House" with the results pleasantly quirky and rather woozy, whilst Deep88 and Sultana close out proceedings with a new production in "100% Kamelwolle".

Review: Melchior Sultana's Profound Sound label hits its third release with some seriously deep-diving tones from those closest to the label. Owen Jay has long been a sparring partner to Sultana, and he's on fine form here with the understated immersion and snaking rhythms of "Bipyramid." Sultana himself is next up with the shimmering, smoky "Paris", while Colkin and Javonntte kick off the B side with the gorgeous vocal tones of "In My Soul". Deep88 finishes the record off with a little old-skool flavour, all driving drum machine jack and tweaked out techno synth expressions as melodic as they are futuristic.

Review: If you pay close attention to deep house trends, you can't fail to have noticed the recent upsurge in interest in "dream house", the late '80s Italian sub-genre famed for its loved-up waviness. At the forefront of this revival stands the Blind Jacks Journey label and their Dream House Tropicana series. This fourth volume is every bit as essential as its predecessors. Italian veteran Deep88 impresses with the tactile rhythms, head-in-the-clouds chords and cascading melodies of "Breakfast Club", while Mozaika successfully wraps gentle acid lines, held-note strings and vibrant electronics around a sparse rhythm track on opener "Eurytmia II". RNr handles the flipside, offering up the Balearic broken beats of "Refresh Your Hair" and the dub-fuelled deep house jauntiness of "Tap4".

Review: Like the Rhythms of The Pacific series, the Dream House Tropicana EPs from Blind Jacks Journey giddily explore the dreamy, sun-baked potential of analogue-rich deep house. This third volume in the series continues in a similar vein, gathering together a quartet of tactile treats. We Play House regular Luv Jam makes two collaborative contributions, first hooking up with RNR on the gently fluttering bliss of "Talk To Me", before joining forces with rave-era house revivalist Gnork on the early Orbital style shuffle of "Zippp". Elsewhere, Italian deep house maestro Deep88 drops the deliciously loose and blissful "Acid Casino", and RNR goes solo with the melodious and calming "Room of Soul".
