Review: Back in autumn 2019 and after more than three decades since it was made, the archive record from the Sun Ra Arkestra's first gig in Poland was released to the public and now it gets deconstructed by EABS on their third album. "Deconstruction and discipline" were the two overriding principles when writing the record and the results are majestic. They take in both soothing and contemplative pieces like 'Interstellar Low Ways' as well as dense, restless workouts like 'The Lady With The Golden Stockings (The Golden Lady)' and superbly cosmic explorations like 'Neo-Project #2.' As a standalone album or way of getting into the vast discography of Sun Ra, this is a faultless record.

Waltzing Beyond (The Song On The Day The World Ends) (3:45)
Review: After a series of mixtapes and endless jamming sessions across their native Poland and beyond, the Eabs collective deliver their album; a conceptual homage to the Polish jazz pioneer Krzyztof Komeda, it builds on the band's foundations with series energy and ingenuity as they break down select compositions written by Komeda between 62-67. From the tornado crescendo of "Private Conversation" to the dizzying signature and spiralling sax of "Pingwin VI" via the sedative swoons and space of "God Is Love", Repetitions is the sound of a septet deconstructing their inspirations, skills and language and rebuilding them before your very ears. An incredible accomplished debut album.

Kraksa
Kraksa (12" + insert)
Cat: 22A 024. Rel: 19 Nov 18

Broken Beat/Nu Jazz/Nu Soul
Kraksa (13:11)
Svantetic (10:45)
Review: Those who pay attention to these things know that Poland's EABS (short for Electro Acoustic Beat Sessions) are one of the hottest jazz combos in the world right now - an accolade earned not only via their incredible playing, but also their willingness to fuse elements of classic Polish and American jazz with hip-hop, soul and funk influences. Here, the fast-rising septet joins forces with 22a regular Tenderlonious (who provides flute and soprano sax solos) for two epic workouts. A-side "Kraksa" is something of an epic; an ever-changing 13-minute jazz journey that brilliantly switches from floor-rocking goodness to horizontal bliss midway through. "Svantetic", meanwhile, wraps fuzzy rock guitars and hammered-out piano riffs around a sweaty groove that just grows in intensity throughout.

Sun (3:45)
Review: This all new EABS meets Jaubi In Search of a Better Tomorrow long player is the result of musical bridges having been formed between Jaubi and the releases on Astigmatic Records and collaborations between musicians from Europe and Asia and EABS members' trips to Pakistan and Poland. It is a world sound with Moogs, bass guitars, grand pianos, Fender Rhodes, clarinets, saxophones and vocals all colliding tradition with new school thinking. Hip-hop elements, improvisation and spiritual jazz and Hindustani ragas all feature in this most cultural and musical melting pots.
