Cygnus - "Make The Brain Relax" (feat Monica Lockett) (6:36)
ERP - "Tandy Center" (4:40)
Vectorvision - "Beta Cloud" (5:06)
Textasy - "Goron" (4:03)
Cygnus - "Pink Lipstick" (feat Dolly Vicious) (3:10)
Review: Could there be a new techno sound emerging from the depths of the Texas desert? Kind of like the Vancouver house sound, but a bit grainer and dustier? Perhaps, yes, and Texas Recordings Underground might just be the ticket. It's a five-person lockdown here, and the emergent Cygnus delivers to stone cold electro chillers in "Make The Brain Relax" and "Pink Lipstick"; not your ordinary kind of electro, something in between Drexciya and the house sound of Chicago - excellent. We also have ERP aka Convextion with "Tandy Center", a rolling, cybernetic techno-morph; Vectorvision with the dripping synths of "Beta Cloud", and "Goron" by Textasy, a metallic, drum-led piece with an eerie vibe. A total winner, and something of a regional debut from the US! Keep it comin'.

Luctu (5:46)
Tuga (5:41)
Pith (6:19)
Review: Yes! Gerard Hanson returns to Frustrated Funk for more worthy Event Related Potential output! The celebrated rooftop alligator wrestler from Texas operates under numerous aliases - Convexation, Syne Language and Time Light Curve among them - but ERP is our favourite at Juno HQ, more so when it arrives via the superb Frustrated Funk label. Renowned for his emotive strings, Hanson brandishes them in abundance on Pith with lead track "Luctu" all about his compositional skills, as he orchestrates various melodic arrangements without losing sight of the funk. On the flip "Tuga" plays out like a charming ode to electro's classicisms as rasping 808s combine sublimely with the deviant analogue bass as Hanson works his string laden magic. It's left to the final title track for Hanson to adopt a pensive, more contemplative tone which contrasts nicely with the music that preceded it.

Lake Bachman (6:09)
Summer Springs (5:54)
Myrtle (5:21)
Station Wagon (6:38)
Review: We'll never tire of Gerard Hanson's individual take on electro, where vast swathes of pads and finely balanced melodies ensure a smooth trajectory into the outer realms of what machine funk can be. This latest EP appears on Spanish label Apnea, and it leads in with the bubbling bass and celestial vistas of 'Lake Bachman' before swerving to the lightly Italo-tinted melancholia of 'Summer Springs' - a fast but delicate trip to unknown regions. 'Myrtle' is a knottier transmission from Hanson's tangled studio circuitry, while 'Station Wagon' completes the picture with some consummate Moog-esque basslines and star-gazing chords that speak volumes without saying words.

Repose (6:45)
Sensory Process (Plant43 remix) (6:45)
Review: Second time around for the third and final part of electro hero Gerard 'ERP' Hanson's "Evoked Potentials" series, which first hit stores way back in 2011. A-side "Repose" is (quite literally) classic ERP, with Hanson peppering Egyptian Lover style drums and funky synth-bass with chiming lead lines, starburst chords and deep space chords. It's tuneful and picturesque, but will also have you on your feet and throwing shapes in no time at all. Over on the flip, Plant43 (London electro veteran Emile Facey) turns in a very Drexciyan take on "Sensory Process", in the process wrapping Hanson's bittersweet strings and 33rd century electronic motifs around a suitably deep sea electro rhythm.

Perfume Persuasion (6:28)
Alsoran (5:59)
Lament Subrosa (6:57)
Irma (6:28)
Review: Under the E.R.P. alias, Gerard Hanson has been making some of the finest intergalactic electro known to humankind since the tail end of the 1990s. His catalogue is meaty and some of his older, out-of-press records are now frustratingly hard to find - hence this tidy double-pack from Frustrated Funk. It includes all three tracks from Hanson's 2007 label debut, "Vox Automaton" - the body-popping brilliance of the title track, the Drexciya style underwater trip of "Nerve Play" and the deep electro lusciousness of "Parfume Persuasion" - as well as the trio of cuts originally released on the "Alsoran" from the same years. These are arguably even better, with the melodious, cinematic and futuristic title track, and wonderfully poignant "Irma" standing out. Exceptional.

Review: Convextion man Gerard Hanson may have been releasing spacey and atmospheric electro E.Ps as ERP since 1996, but "Afterimage" is still the project's first full-length outing. It is, of course, superb. Few can make this kind of deep, emotive and melodious electro quite as well as Hanson, and "Afterimage" arguably includes some of his finest material in this style. Highlights include the bustling rhythms, lilting chords and bubbly electronics of "Overcast", the deep, slow and poignant bliss of "Wishing Still", the deep space dancefloor shuffle of "Remembrance", the crystalline melodies and hard-hitting drums of "Noetic" and the ultra-dreamy rhythmic ambient closing cut "Forlorn". It is, though, all utterly beguiling.

Gallup String (7:58)
Cold Colony (6:21)
Review: For the second instalment in their ERP reissue series, Semantica has chosen to back 2010 Evoked Potentials (Part 2) track "Gallup String" with the lesser-known 2011 jam "Cold Colony", which first appeared on one of the label's under-celebrated compilation style EPs. The latter is arguably one of producer Gerard Hanson's most poignant and melancholic moments - a beautiful deep electro jam capable of genuinely stirring emotions and awaking the senses. "Gallup String", on the other hand, is a more foreboding, pitched-down chunk of dark and spacey electro brilliance rich in bleeping electronics, snappy drum machine percussion and intergalactic chords.

Sensory Process (8:21)
Lodestone (7:33)
Review: Any new project from Convextion man Gerard Hanson's ERP project is worth celebrating, particularly when it is stretched over three 10-inch singles. Part one of the Evoked Potentials series offers two typically on-point chunks of intergalactic electro. He begins with "Sensory Progress", where vintage computer bleeps, throbbing electrofunk bass, spacey chords and yearning melodies wrap themselves around a snappy TR-808 groove. Flipside "Lodestone" is a slightly more atmospheric affair, where cascading synthesizer melodies and grandiose, deep space chords cluster around a shuffling rhythm track. It sounds a little like Drexciya jamming with Brown Album-era Orbital, which is no bad thing in our book.

Ancient Light (6:19)
Gleaning Creation (7:17)
Eagle Nebula (6:20)
Ancient Light (The Exaltics remix) (4:45)
Review: Gerard "Convextion" Hanson has long been one of the electro scene's most notable talents; arguably, he's barely put a foot wrong since delivering his debut EP way back in the mid '90s. Here, he dons the E.R.P alias he last used back in 2013 for the second volume of Solar One Music's Hubble-themed 12" releases. Predictably, Ancient Light is superb, with the title track delivering the perfect balance between dreamy, deep space ambience, classic IDM, and the snappy, beatbox pulse of classic electro. The accompanying Exaltics remix of the same track flips the script, taking the track in a darker direction via thrusting synthesizer arpeggios and metallic percussion. Elsewhere, "Gleaning Creation" doffs a cap to the underwater mysticism of Drexciya whilst retaining the melodiousness of B-12, while "Eagle Nebula" is intergalactic electro at its' finest.

Review: Repress! Gerard Hanson (aka Convextion, aka ERP) comes with one of his best records - "Vox Automaton". This is more electro influenced than his "Down Low" and "Frantic Flowers" outings. This is the shit for everyone owning a model 500 record or a bunch of Underground Resistance or Derxicya vinyl. ERP stays true to his own sound and doesn't just copy his hero's.

Review: The man best known as Convextion assumes his ERP aka Event Related Potential alias for four more next level cuts that find him pushing his electro electronics ever more into the future. 'V/Eight' opens with a melancholic bassline under busy drum programming to get things going. 'Equiponderance' is more complex with squirming electronics, more hefty bass notes and serene background pads adding a third dimension. 'Engine Vibration' is a more gritty mix of busy analogue machinery and star-gazing chords then 'Enfield' closes with optimistic sonics and propulsive bouncy bass to end this cosmic cruise on a high.

Review: Two Gerard Hanson records repressed in one week along with a new 12"!? Far too much music is getting undeserved hype these days but this is definitely not the case here. E.R.P. aka Convextion is back, this time on the ever consistent Frantic Flowers label (a sub-label of Frustrated Funk you know) with 'Alsoran'. After his brilliant and critically acclaimed self titled album on Down Low Music, Gerard returns with three beautiful techno tracks - so sweet it hurts your teeth!

ERP - "ZRX" (5:24)
Duplex - "Molecular" (Ovatow Reclock) (8:08)
Review: Frustrated Funk's latest missive boasts cuts from two of electro's most reliable artists: Convextion man Gerard Hanson (under the deep electro E.R.P. guise) and Rotterdam scene stalwarts Duplex. Hanson handles the A-side, delivering a punchy, club-ready electro workout rich in intergalactic electronics, Egyptian Lover style synth flourishes and restless drum machine cowbells. Interestingly, it's a far bolder and retro-futurist affair than we've come to expect from the dreamy and emotion-rich E.R.P. project. Ironically, Duplex's atmospheric and spacey "Molecular (Ovatow Reclock)" is undeniably deep and sumptuous, matching Hanson's most melodious and evocative moments.

Review: One vinyl, two artists. ‘Split 2’ mixes sees Detroit techno grooves with original, inspired machine music. Two new Ai signings get a side each, six tracks in all.
On ERP: If you know your deep techno, if you’re a follower of Basic Channel or it’s American counterpart Deep Chord, if you hunt for those buried treasures the Motor City spits out every so often... then you're sure to be an ardent admirer of Convextion/ERP. On Mariel Ito: Having already made a name for himself as an exponent of some of the most complex, metallic and mashed-up dancefloor beats for the Kompakt-sponsored Treibstoff imprint under the Maetrik tag, Eric Estornel has decided to take things one step further with the creation of a new alter ego programmed and honed for maximum dancefloor decimation.

ERP - "Burp"

Plant43 - "GJ 1214b"
Steve Allman - "Evolution Technology"
Review: Sync 24's Cultivated Electronics imprint brings "The World Electronix" series to a fittingly slick climax with this four-track adventure into electro's most twisted pastures. Gerard Hanson's ERP project ignites the show with a heavily textured trip to the most unforgiving peripheries of the cosmos, Sync 24 & Deixis's "Ah Ah Ah" is a full-on acid assault while the bulbous bass and warm kicks on Plant43's "GJ1214b" remind us of electro's undiluted funk roots. Finally Steve Allman closes the show with his Cultivated Electronics debut "Evolution Technology". Stark, slippery and bolstered with bullet-proof beats and a heady, muscular bass riff, it's a fantastic finale to this essential cultivation collection.

Review: The third single release from Hardfloor's most recent album Two Guys Three Boxes comes as a remix package and showcasing the skills of E.R.P., Morphology and Boris Divider. E.R.P dish up some refined electro with a streak of funk for their version, making it a surefire winner for a range of tastes. Finish electro duo Morphology's deeper take on "You Know The Score" plays with sharp drums and twanging samples and subtle synth chords. On the flip Boris Divider goes for a dark, eerie electro journey - hovering pads, dusty samples and bizarre noises lurk at every corner and make it Juno's pick of the remix package.

Review: 'Art captured on wax' is the om:nia mantra. The label clearly has a considered approach to what they release, starting out in 2018 with STL, releasing Shaun Soomro in 2020 and now delivering their third release from deep electro mastermind Convextion. Intriguingly, they've decided to present this new four-tracker from Convextion alongside the two prior releases as a triple-vinyl pack, serving as a sort of bumper compilation of incredible, deep-diving sonics from three incredibly gifted mavericks on the edges of subliminal club music. If you truly consider the sounds of dub techno, minimal and space-age electro as art, as you well should, then this consolidated pack will give you much to savour.
