Review: Uniquely doubling up as both a label and a moniker, Freund Der Familie are a renowned duo from Germany who have been making music for over a decade. Their latest release 'Rising Sun Interpretations' hears them invite fellow deep house evoker Rising Sun - aka. Styrax Recordings' Steffen Laschinksi - for a full album's worth of deeply hypnotic takes on tracks from the former artists' two LPs 'Alfa' and 'Omega'. A brain-tickling journey through gossamer soundscapes and subtle rhythms, this release truly shines a just light on Laschinksi's craft.

Review: Leipzig label Freund der Familie is a modern dub techno label with a deservedly good reputation and well honed roster of label artists. Now the Grau series continues with plenty of dubbed out electronics from the off: opener 'Margin' is a slow and heavy one, with chords rippling over the face of a lumpy kick drum, 'Scope' then has frostier synths and a dubwise vocal praising jah and pacing about the mix and 'LIMBIC' then sinks you in deep to serene synth modulations and rolling drums that cannot fail to enter you into a state of pure mindfulness. 'Utils' closes out on a more uptempo rhythm with double kicks and pulsing subs locking you in.

Review: Germany's Freund Der Familie crew come together for a perfect wintry collection of bottomless dub techno rollers, all mastered by Sven Weisemann. Opener 'Foundation' stutters on a brilliant beat with paper thin chords up top and a distant vocal reverberating around the mix. 'Respond' is another absorbing and atmospheric piece where every single shade of grey is offered up to make for grain and lo-fi dub currents. 'Kylao' gets a little more dynamic and propulsive but remains superbly delicate and 'Overdrive' closes out with more whispered vocals and underlapping drums.

Review: new album from Freund Der Familie.

Review: Aside from a few early EPs by the likes of Sven Weiseman or Nyra, among others, the Freund Der Familie imprint, run out of Berlin, has mainly featured the label's two head honchos, Klaus Rakete and Mirko Hunger. The experienced duo return to our shelves with the sublime sounds of "CRM (radio mix)", a slow but rich house nugget with a dubwise techno aesthetic, followed by "NML" and its cavernous folds of sound, along with the more break-friendly dispositions of "PRS", the EP's electro swinger.

Review: Near Berlin's Ostbahnhof station lies Studio R, a hidden internet streaming podcast bunker: like the Boiler Room but done the German way with no fanfare. Their release operandi so far seems to be the various artist approach, and after making a statement with their first EP, which included a track from DJ Qu and DJ-turned-producer Eric Cloutier, the quietly confident Studio R present a further four names. Soulphiction starts off with an analogue plodding disco cut 'n' shake "Tempation" while Kann artist Daniel Stefanik dedicates his track to the label by calling it "Studio R", which is something reminiscent to Parallax Beat Brothers' "Exhalation" who DJ Sprinkles famously remixed. On the flip is a dubby rhythm track by the Freund Der Familie crew, who recently showed they have what it takes to produce music like this on a larger scale with last year's Alfa album, but most interestingly on this EP is a track by the so far unknown Oyeq, providing something which sounds like a melodic trip that could have come out of camp Giegling.
