Review: Gemini's In Neutral has always been regarded as something of a second wave Chicago deep house classic; an album that was celebrated by the heads on its' initial release in 1997, but didn't have the wider impact it probably should have done. Since then, it's been tricky to find on vinyl - unless you're willing to pay inflated online prices, of course - so this licensed reissue from ChiWax is a welcome surprise. In Neutral remains arguably Gemini's best work, and mixes thumping, hypnotic, Detroit techno influenced deep house jams with a smattering of deeper, jazz-flecked downtempo excursions (see "Ahi"). The album also features a sterling chunk of early Chicago boompty in the shape of the superb "?".

Review: The career of the legendary and near mythical Spencer Kincy is celebrated on this extensive compilation, featuring some of his greatest hits. He released over 200 tracks over a prolific period between from the mid to late nineties, then as many of you may know by now, suddenly disappeared - at the peak of his career. Rumours have been bandied about, regarding what happened and his whereabouts now, but we're assured he is alive and well. As like other reissues on Anotherday, this compilation has been licensed directly from the man himself and royalties will go directly to him. From the tough bounce of "U know How I Feel" or the sensual lo-slung funk of "Imagine A Nation", the bulk of these tracks were originally released on local powerhouse Relief Records between 1994 - 1995 and are classic Kincy. Timeless stuff right here from the annals of Chicago house history.

Review: Spencer "Gemini" Kincy has long been regarded as one of Chicago's true heroes; a scarily prolific producer who disappeared from view around the turn of the millennium, leaving behind a decade's worth of brilliant house productions for the likes of Relief/Casjual, Peacefrog, Planet E, Distance and Classic. Here, arguably his greatest single work, the in-demand 1997 full-length Imagine-A-Nation, finally gets a re-release via RAMP's archival arm Another Day. It remains a brilliant piece of work, joining the dots between Cajmere style loop-funk, French touch, disco-house, Derrick Carter-esque "boompty" and techno in a unique way. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the relentless loops, drum machine handclaps and cut-up drops of "Don't Look Back", to the undulating, jackin' deep house goodness of "How Can I Chill?".

Review: Since it first appeared back in 1999, Gemini's fourth full-length, The Music Hall, has become something of a sought-after item. Happily, Chi Wax has decided to re-master and re-issue it. Predictably, it's stood the test of time rather well, with Gemini - real name Spencer Kincy - serving up a whirlwind tour of late '90s Chicago obsessions. So, there's the jazz-flecked, proto-boompty bounce of opener "The Entrance", the Larry Heard-on-valium warmth of "Kiva Song", the stripped-back, disco-influenced house funk of "Let's Go", and - more surprisingly - the UK garage influenced bounce of "Dreamer". He also doffs a cap to early Daft Punk style techno-funk on "Future Beat", and fuses dirty bass, jazzy keys and swinging breakbeats on standout closer "Raplh".
