Sam Bangura - "Jaspe’s Groove" (7:21)
Sam Bangura - "Marble Leg" (6:26)
Henry Hyde - "More Days Inside" (8:17)
Henry Hyde - "Wading Through" (6:52)
Review: As the London-based NorthSouth Records enter their fifth year they also arrive at their tenth release. After a run of artist EPs NSR returns to the split format to deliver four tracks from two of the label's founding members; Sam Bangura and Harry McCanna. On the North side we hear Sam's first cuts pressed to vinyl for the imprint. Shining with his characteristic sound of bubbling melodies, refined grooves and tied together with a growling low end, 'Jaspe's Groove' and 'Marble Leg' are two driving tunes aimed straight for those facemelting late-night moments.

Heading down to the South side we catch Harry working again under his alias Henry Hyde. 'More Days Inside' starts things off on something of a mellow tip, whilst still being a functional track for the dance floor. 'Wading Through' on the other hand offers up shuffling percussion, spacey synth plucks and one of Harry's signature squirmy, swarming basslines. It's an EP that showcases some of the signature NorthSouth sounds and who better for it to come from than two of its own.

Eris Drew - "See You In Snow" (6:15)
Edward - "Mind Loop" (6:16)
D.Tiffany - "Sun Trip" (7:54)
Henry Hyde - "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim" (6:18)
Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Minimal House/Tech House
Chris Geschwindner - "Modern Axis Of Evil"
Chris Geschwindner - "In 2 Infinity"
Henry Hyde - "No Shoes No Entry"
Henry Hyde - "Reverse Me"
Review: The third release on NorthSouth Records establishes the imprint as a vessel for the buoyant sound of minimal 2 step, as Chris Geschwindner and Henry Hyde return following their appearance on the label's inaugural 12". It's a sound and tempo that slots right in with the more established threads of minimal house music out there right now, but there's an undeniable UK kink in the groove that makes these jams stand out. "Modern Axis Of Evil" is a seductive, noirish cut while "In 2 Infinity" balances twitchy rhythmic elements with mournful, lingering keys. Hyde favours a broken beat template on "No Shoes No Entry," and then "Reverse Me" wriggles down into a reduced shuffle as technical as it is meditative.

Chris Geschwindner - "Hell Vetica" (5:49)
Chris Geschwindner - "The Sky Lies Four Five Six" (7:52)
Henry Hyde - "Oddysee" (6:25)
Henry Hyde - "Mr Susan" (7:43)
Review: NorthSouth Records is a new label that brings lesser known names in the house and techno field to the forefront, and they're kicking things off as they mean to go on with the fresh new sounds of Chris Geschwindner and Henry Hyde. Frankfurt-based Geschwinder has already seen the light of day on Second Steps and Five Finger over the past couple of years, while Hyde has popped up on Fear Of Flying, Delooped and others, but here both producers are on their strongest form yet. The former keeps the energy levels up with some peppy, fast-paced house cuts to get dancers cutting the quickest of shapes, before Hyde gets into a broken beat frame of mind that should elicit equally physical responses on the floor.

Approaching The Peak (7:16)
My Machine Walks (6:31)
Return To The Summit (6:35)
Over Cloud (5:59)
Review: Lion & Lamb is the pub turned cult club in London that hosts special sessions from some of London's key electronic tastemakers such as Craig Richards, Radioactive Man, Butter Side Up and plenty more. In 2020 it launched a label that is as just as essential and Henry Hyde is next up complete the one release a year schedule it has favoured so far. He offers four tracks of froward thinking tech house starting with the full throttle funk of 'Approaching The Peak' then much more dubby and stripped back 'My Machine Walks'. 'Return To The Summit' takes off into the cosmos on fluttering synth leads and 'Over Cloud' is the trippiest of the lot with watery droplets and crispy percussion.

Locked Out (7:20)
The Red Face Roller (6:53)
Start Again (5:46)
Leg Le Friend (8:19)
Review: Henry Hyde is back on his usual stomping ground of NorthSouth with some peppy club workouts to get wiggy to. "Locked Out" has plenty of tripped out tones bubbling around the sturdy, Lately bass-fed groove, while "The Red Face Roller" gets more playful with the synth lines without losing the steady, sleek rhythm section. "Start Again" switches the mood but retains the palette, making great use of a grinding bass note to anchor the sprightly blips and dubby bleeps up top. "Leg Le Friend" goes further into the influence of early UK techno with its ethereal pads and intricate melodic elements, capturing the kind of vibe you might have heard on Likemind with a cheeky modern twist.

I Heard You Like To Squelch (6:40)
My Function (7:00)
Slick Rick (6:07)
Second Face (6:48)
Review: Henry Hyde is back for his fourth outing on his own NorthSouth label, but this time marks a shift as he holds court over the full run of the wax with a selection of refined floor tweakers draped in illustrious swathes of synths. Things kick off in dazzling style with the bright white chords and crafty fills of "I Heard You Like To Squelch" before the snappy electro flair of "My Function" keeps the uplifting vibe but swaps out the rhythm. "Slick Rick" is a freaky minimal cut with some wobbly bass wielded with deadly precision, and then the record rounds off on the shuffling micro funk of "Second Face".

Samuel Allot - "Isolate"

TC80 - "Albion"
Cedric Dekowski & Felix Reifenberg - "Circacarno"
Phil Evans - "Hazard"
Christian Ab - "Starlight D-Lite"
Review: The lads behind Albion Records know a thing or two about where to look for fresh steps forwards in the minimal, house and techno scenes. After last year's Gab Jr release, they're finally back to hit number 10 with a double pack compilation that sets in stone what the label is all about. There's a lot to dig into here, but some of the standouts include the sharp and sneaky "Forgot Your Name" by Henry Hyde, the Boogizm-goes-electro freakery of Christian Jay's "Restive" and the swinging jazz surrealism of Phil Evans' "Hazard". With more than a little garage shuffle hovering over this release, it's set to be another huge one in all corners of the minimal tech house scene.

Alicia Hush - "Pickle Paradox" (6:04)
Bilal - "Electric Cafe" (6:09)
Unai Trotti - "Delta Papa" (7:12)
Voigtmann - "Infinity" (5:51)
Review: The Drifted Flow label made an early move in 2015 with a release from Tommy Vicari Jnr, but now returns with an entirely different premise - an eight-track double pack of fresh, invigorating minimal house jams from lesser-known and adventurous producers. Henry Hyde gets the collection off to a strong start with the wobbly funk of "Perchin," all dirty bass wobble and loose swinging rhythms. Elsewhere Martinez flirts with the crooked thump of electro, Alicia Hush wriggles through an abstraction of garage and Bilal channels a little of the Boogizm magic you might expect from S-Max or Fym. Overall, it's a release loaded with personality and flair for minimal spinners wanting some spicier ingredients for their mix.

Mike Shannon - "Gratiot Avenue" (7:51)
Henry Hyde - "Green Flash" (5:09)
Seuil - "Trois Bassins" (6:11)
Oddmann - "Hackney Weak" (6:12)
Review: London's Half Baked Records came to life in early 2013, as part of the HBF Agency - representing their renowned Sunday afternoon parties. The record label was created in order to complete their platform and as an output for the music of their residents, such as Robin Ordell and Greg Brockmann. As part of their eight year celebrations, they've roped in some legends and newbies alike for this celebratory EP. It's nice to hear Cynosure main man Mike Shannon return to some gutsier sounds, similar to the what he was producing a decade ago - the industrial influenced groove of "Gratiot Avenue" calls to mind his work with Dewalta on Indigo Raw a couple years back. Undersounds' Henry Hyde closes out the A side with the spacey swing fuelled breaks of "Green Flash". On the flip, Eklo head honcho Seuil continues with his new love of retro sounds on the funked-up Detroit tribute "Trois Bassins" while Oddmann return after their appearance on HB010 with the reduced and gloomy after hours deepness of "Hackney Weak".

The PGA - "Deep In The Bunker" (Dogleg Detour mix) (6:31)
Chris Geschwindner - "Dale's Lullaby" (6:10)
Henry Hyde - "Hello Spcshp" (5:49)
Review: The fifth NorthSouth release plunges once again into the melting pot of producers seeking new variations on the house and techno format, leading in with London minimal champ Voigtmann. His "Separation Attitude" takes on the kind of wild, expressive machine funk you'd expect from Spacetravel, cosmic and pumping in equal measure. The "Dogleg Detour" mix of The PGA's "Deep In The Bunker" makes powerful use of a spacious mix to let the bassline strut its stuff, while Chris Geschwindner's crafty 2-step construction on "Dale's Lullaby" should appeal to all those digging garage beats matched with techno atmospherics. Henry Hyde's "Hello Spcshp" takes a distinctive approach to acid electro that should find favour with body popping freaks who like their jams playful and a little off kilter.
