Deep House
  1. Eris Drew - "See You In Snow"
  2. Edward - "Mind Loop"
  3. D.Tiffany - "Sun Trip"
  4. Henry Hyde - "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim"
Review: After their 1st birthday celebrations at the end of last year, 2019 will see Needs switch its attention to our planet and environment. The aim is to raise awareness of deforestation and climate change, and they kick things off with a record featuring Eris Drew, Edward, D. Tiffany and Henry Hyde.

2018 was a big year. After partnering with UN Women on their HeForShe gender equality campaign back in March (which featured a vinyl release and London fundraiser with Peggy Gou), they went on to celebrate their birthday with a record raising awareness for mental health which showcased the production talents of DJ Normal 4, Red Axes and Hodge.

Keep your eyes peeled for a series of events around the UK to coincide with the release. All profits donated to Cool Earth.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Chris Geschwindner - "Hell Vetica" (5:49)
  2. Chris Geschwindner - "The Sky Lies Four Five Six" (7:52)
  3. Henry Hyde - "Oddysee" (6:25)
  4. Henry Hyde - "Mr Susan" (7:43)
Review: NorthSouth Records is a new label that brings lesser known names in the house and techno field to the forefront, and they're kicking things off as they mean to go on with the fresh new sounds of Chris Geschwindner and Henry Hyde. Frankfurt-based Geschwinder has already seen the light of day on Second Steps and Five Finger over the past couple of years, while Hyde has popped up on Fear Of Flying, Delooped and others, but here both producers are on their strongest form yet. The former keeps the energy levels up with some peppy, fast-paced house cuts to get dancers cutting the quickest of shapes, before Hyde gets into a broken beat frame of mind that should elicit equally physical responses on the floor.

Minimal/Tech House
  1. Chris Geschwindner - "Modern Axis Of Evil"
  2. Chris Geschwindner - "In 2 Infinity"
  3. Henry Hyde - "No Shoes No Entry"
  4. Henry Hyde - "Reverse Me"
Review: The third release on NorthSouth Records establishes the imprint as a vessel for the buoyant sound of minimal 2 step, as Chris Geschwindner and Henry Hyde return following their appearance on the label's inaugural 12". It's a sound and tempo that slots right in with the more established threads of minimal house music out there right now, but there's an undeniable UK kink in the groove that makes these jams stand out. "Modern Axis Of Evil" is a seductive, noirish cut while "In 2 Infinity" balances twitchy rhythmic elements with mournful, lingering keys. Hyde favours a broken beat template on "No Shoes No Entry," and then "Reverse Me" wriggles down into a reduced shuffle as technical as it is meditative.

Inner Daze EP (limited 12" in hand-stamped sleeve)

Minimal/Tech House
  1. HH 01 (8:21)
  2. Inner Daze (6:04)
  3. HH 01 (Etienne remix) (6:11)
Review: London's Undersound Recordings make their debut with debutant Henry Hyde and his own special brew of minimal house and techno beats. Very fitting and pleasant, indeed. "HH01" takes intricate bundles of tribal percussion and blows them over gentle layers of melodies for the deeper set times, while title track "Inner Daze" is more high-powered and geared for the jaw locks! House specialist Etienne reshapes "HH01" into a rawer kind of beast, one that's heavy on the drum machine beats and lean on the bleeps.

Drifted Mid-Flow Series #001 (140 gram vinyl double 12")
Cat: DMF 001. Rel: 01 Oct 18
Minimal/Tech House
  1. Henry Hyde - "Perchin'" (6:19)
  2. Lee Hume - "Vanishingmondaze" (6:04)
  3. Martinez - "Horizons" (6:42)
  4. Amathia - "Fraggle" (4:32)
  5. Alicia Hush - "Pickle Paradox" (6:04)
  6. Bilal - "Electric Cafe" (6:09)
  7. Unai Trotti - "Delta Papa" (7:12)
  8. Voigtmann - "Infinity" (5:51)
Review: The Drifted Flow label made an early move in 2015 with a release from Tommy Vicari Jnr, but now returns with an entirely different premise - an eight-track double pack of fresh, invigorating minimal house jams from lesser-known and adventurous producers. Henry Hyde gets the collection off to a strong start with the wobbly funk of "Perchin," all dirty bass wobble and loose swinging rhythms. Elsewhere Martinez flirts with the crooked thump of electro, Alicia Hush wriggles through an abstraction of garage and Bilal channels a little of the Boogizm magic you might expect from S-Max or Fym. Overall, it's a release loaded with personality and flair for minimal spinners wanting some spicier ingredients for their mix.

  1. Mike Shannon - "Gratiot Avenue" (7:51)
  2. Henry Hyde - "Green Flash" (5:09)
  3. Seuil - "Trois Bassins" (6:11)
  4. Oddmann - "Hackney Weak" (6:12)
Review: London's Half Baked Records came to life in early 2013, as part of the HBF Agency - representing their renowned Sunday afternoon parties. The record label was created in order to complete their platform and as an output for the music of their residents, such as Robin Ordell and Greg Brockmann. As part of their eight year celebrations, they've roped in some legends and newbies alike for this celebratory EP. It's nice to hear Cynosure main man Mike Shannon return to some gutsier sounds, similar to the what he was producing a decade ago - the industrial influenced groove of "Gratiot Avenue" calls to mind his work with Dewalta on Indigo Raw a couple years back. Undersounds' Henry Hyde closes out the A side with the spacey swing fuelled breaks of "Green Flash". On the flip, Eklo head honcho Seuil continues with his new love of retro sounds on the funked-up Detroit tribute "Trois Bassins" while Oddmann return after their appearance on HB010 with the reduced and gloomy after hours deepness of "Hackney Weak".

  2. The PGA - "Deep In The Bunker" (Dogleg Detour mix) (6:31)
  3. Chris Geschwindner - "Dale's Lullaby" (6:10)
  4. Henry Hyde - "Hello Spcshp" (5:49)
Review: Since launching back in 2017, London label NorthSouth Records has released a quartet of EPs showcasing tracks from the likes of Christian Jay, Bilal, Rob Amboule and Henry Hyde. Here they return for the first time in 2019 with another action-packed, multi-artist extravaganza. Voigtmann kicks things off via the deep space chords, funky electronic motifs and intergalactic tech-house grooves of "Separation Attitude", before The PGA offers up a bass-heavy peak-time roller rich in retro-futurist riffs, watery electronics and crispy drums. Label regular Chris Geschwindner opens up side B with an attractive blend of two-step garage grooves and spacey tech-house melodies, while Henry Hyde delivers the synth-bass-propelled, electro fired melodiousness of "Hello Spcshp".
