Deep House
Lsaura (5:54)
As The Sunsets (6:28)
Review: Detroit's John Beltran can do no wrong if you ask us, and what he does do is always famously varied, from sound design for TV to melodic techno excellence via ambient beauty. Here for MotorCity Wine he revisits his Back To Bahia series with a third volume that finds him flexing his Afro-Brazilian deep house chops. The 7" opens up with the jazzy boogie of Lsaura' which is steeped in Minneapolis funk and will get cultured dancefloors in a spin. 'As The Sunsets' that appears on the flip and is a superbly emotive sound with wispy late night melodies and glowing harmonies and shuffling Latin grooves. Essential.

Review: After his superlative and rather unexpected foray into Afro and Latin fusion with his Sol Set project, John Beltran returns to more familiar territory with a rendition of his classic mid-90s album 'Ten Days of Blue' recorded at this year's Dekmantel in Amsterdam. We get a real feel for the whole gig experience, from the sound of murmured anticipation and intro tape to the resolution at the outro and the main meat of the music itself - lively, optimistic, groovy but understated and chilled at the same time - sits somewhere between his ambient and harder techno work. Among Beltran's very finest output.

Kumbatia (Hold Them Close) (7:32)
Mallorca (6:18)
Review: Michigan's John Beltran has done it all over the years, from pioneering and ground breaking ambient albums to serene and soulful techno. This time out he lands on Turkish label Oath with four majestically musical tracks that go from Same shuffles to hi-tek soul. It is 'Em Trancoso' that opens up with a percussive Latin swirl, while 'Danca Da Manha' brings more electronics and punchy drums for the club. 'Kumbatia (Hold Them Close)' is exquisite lounge music with alluring vocals and dancing rhythms under smeared synths and 'Mallorca' closes on a perfectly Balearic comedown.

Review: When it comes to floor-filling tracks that balance smart drum programming with pure melodic bliss, you can always rely on John Beltran to deliver. The five track EP contains masterful ambient pieces with a Detroit/Chicago analog house vibe bringing a warm and psychedelic feel. He joins the label's third release with a brilliant chill-out EP entitled 'The Peninsula', united by another Detroit legend Luke Hess, bringing his traditional 303 upbeat sound remixing 'Begin Again'. Visual artist Alona Rodeh also joins the release showcasing her stunning High-Vis (Future, Black) which featured in her first solo exhibition at the Christine Konig Galerie in Vienna last year.

Review: Michigan artist John Beltran has had a long and winding career that has seen him put out shimmering ambient electronics, organic techno and also find some of his tracks used on high-profile HBO TV shows. Aesthete is his latest offering and once again it pairs the synthetic with the natural in beautiful ways. His melodies are bright and beautiful, his drums float in mid-air and the overall mood of his music is painfully melancholic. This album marks the American's debut on the Furthur Electronix label and a fine one it is too.

Review: Let the sunshine in- John Beltran is back to Brasil for Back To Bahia Vol. 2. Similar to his last foray on MotorCity Wine Recordings Beltran has assembled an all-star cast of characters including John Arnold, Jeremy Ellis, James Simonson, and Kiko Navarro to deliver a slice of bright jazzy deep house heaven. Kiko Navarro's "Motor City Jazz Remix" starts the release with driving live drums and percussion for discerning dance floors. On the flip John's original mix keeps the energy moving, before going to the brilliant Sol Set Collective Rework which blends live energy with driving production for those special dance floor moments. Pressed loud to high quality 12" vinyl in Detroit.

Energy Circle (6:56)
The Sun Also Rises (6:48)
Going Uphill Fast (Hope On The Horizon) (6:51)
Review: Definitely one of the standout releases this week, we have a new one by the always excellent Detroit techno legend John Beltran, who inaugurates the Eufonic label out of Romania. Founded in Timisoara, it started from the desire to offer electronic music lovers the quality they need to really enjoy their favourite tracks. It's classic Beltran all the way throughout The Cycles EP, with A side cut 'Energy Cycle' entrancing the listener with its rich tapestry of chiming melodies unpinned by a backdrop of broken beats. Over on the flip Beltran gets deeper, with the emotive dancefloor drama of 'The Sun Also Rises' and closing it out with some proper hi-tech soul on the sublime 'Going Uphill Fast' - which is reminiscent of his Ten Days Of Blue era.

C-Pull - "Soulmate (John Beltran remix)" (6:10)
John Beltran - "Summer Storm (Nigel Hayes remix)" (6:56)
Review: The pointedly deep Astrolife label, run by Nigel Hayes and Vincent Inc, is taking things way, way down with this stunning 12" from John Beltran. It's a varied affair that leads in with the sumptuous, percussive house pattering of Beltran's remix of Hayes and Rachel Berg's 'Take Me To The Sea'. It's the kind of track that will transport you to dreamy, sun-soaked terraces in a flash. Beltran's version of C-Pull's 'Soulmate' is a very different affair - a peppy broken beat groover that wouldn't sound out of place being worked by the likes of Kaidi Thatham or Dego. Then Hayes is back, this time remixing Beltran's 'Summer Storm' and giving it a chunky rhythm section to carry the hazy melodics into peak time.

Review: If you like your techno and ambient music to be melodious, ambitious, detailed and life-affirming, you need this EP from John Beltran in your life. In keeping with the Michigan producer's career to date, there's plenty of subtle variety to be found across the EP, which naturally touches on many of his recurring musical themes. Opener 'Highway' is an inspired slab of sparkling, melody-driven deep house/Motor City techno fusion, while 'Thank Goodness I Found You' sees Beltran wrap layered ambient chords and swirling choral samples around a crunchy, broken beat-influenced groove. Over on the flip he switches to tactile deep techno mode on the sublime 'Now The Clouds Are Gone', before serving up a sublime ambient mix of 'Thank Goodness I Found You'. In a word: brilliant!

Review: Michigan artist John Beltran has long embodied the evocative, richly textured techno sound that has so long been synonymous with Detroit. He is in particularly majestic form on this one, however, with opener 'Love Freq' bringing scintillating hi hats and synths over dancing beats that are brilliantly restless. 'Epic Soulmate' has that sombre synth sound that has you gaming off into the distance, rueful for a love you once knew, then 'Controller' brings you back down to earth on a more punishing groove laced with darker bass notes. The manic and freeform 'El Conquistador' is a perfect end to this EP, which journeys much further than most techno albums ever do.

Review: Whether offering up club-focused Motor City techno, futuristic tech-jazz, bubbly electronica or sofa-bound ambient compositions, John Beltran always wrings the maximum amount of beauty and soul from the machines he uses to make music. He's at it again on "The Season Series", an inspired album of picturesque electronic compositions on Delsin. Variously fusing swelling, almost classical chord sequences, stirring melodic refrains, effects-laden shoegaze guitars, effected vocal snippets and beats (when used) that touch on many of Beltran's main influences (think IDM and Detroit techno), Beltran has produced a simply stunning album that amply rewards those who give themselves in to its positive, emotion-rich charms.

Review: Michigan producer John Beltran is a master of atmosphere and emotion. His ambient has been used for countless seminal TV shows, he's been cited as an inspiration to Four Tet and has put out key albums on labels like Delsin and Peacefrog. Here he is in a distinctively club-focussed mood, but the synths still very much speak to your heart. "The Lake" is pure Motor City techno soul, and the ambient reprise allows you to wallow in his pads even more. "Twilight" then bustles with shimmering metal hits while pixelated keys drift about like a million fire flies in a warm night sky. Lush.

Review: Like Delsin label mates Conforce and Claro Intelecto, veteran producer John Beltran seems incapable of producing duff albums. "Hallo Androiden", his first full length outing for two years, is another wonderfully atmospheric, melodic and emotive set that recalls the producer's impeccable 1990s output. The nine tracks are as lushly produced as you'd expect, with Beltran effortlessly drifting between eyes-closed ambient techno, lilting electronica, slowly shifting sunset soundscapes and the kind of grandiose, life affirming ambient compositions that have long been a feature of the veteran producer's work. As with much of his output, there are enough intricate details and emotion-stirring motifs to suggest that the album will sound just as good on the 50th listen as it does the first.

Review: The term 'idiosyncratic' is flippantly bandied about these days, but can be used more appropriately to define legendary producers such as Ann Arbor's John Beltran. For nearly 20 years, Beltran has created some of the most seminal and timeless expressions in hi-tech soul music. It is classic Beltran on The Musical Storm EP, as heard on "Ascending" which harks back to the sounds of his treasured Ten Days Of Blue album on Peacefrog back in '96, the life affirming ambient journey "Barely Beating Within My Chest" is a fast forward to the present and is similar to his work on recent Delsin efforts like Everything At Once or Espais. Always one to surprise us at times, Beltran goes for a more lo-fi and gritty analogue approach to jackin underground house on the gritty "Confuse You" on the flip.

Review: Ten Days Of Blue is John Beltran's second LP to date, from a distant-not-so-distant 1996, when a rush of neo-techno - on an intelligent tip - began to rush over the scene. The opening "Flex" is one of the greatest of its kind, a near 7 minute voyage of sparse drums, heavy bass and a level of euphoria that is close to match anywhere else. The truth is, however, that every tune on here is absolute fire, from the gentle IDM waves of "Collage Of Dream", the jazzed-out percussion of "Gutaris Breeze (6000km To Amsterdam)" and, of course, the knifty, pseudo d&b of "Ten Days Of Blue". There is so much more to explore, too, including the totally innovative techno of "Venim & Wonder". This gear really does sound like it was made the other day. Warmly recommended.

Everything At Once, his speedy follow-up to last year's Espais, is another master class in delivering emotion-rich electronic music. A master producer whose career has spanned everything from Detroit techno and electronica to Latin music, his attempt at ambient is equally well executed. The breath taking "Music for Machines" with its droning mechanical soundscape and beautiful transcending strings. "Orange Background" and its factory sounds accompanying a repetitive resonance. Beltran's emotive and sombre piano sound plays a large part and he does it tremendously on "Many Moments to Come" as well as the memorable "Love Suspended". All in all a brilliant effort and contender for one of the finest albums this year.

Review: Four Tet's Text label has done absolutely no wrong since the first release back in 2010! With plenty of releases from himself, Anthony Naples, Rocketnumbernine and a whole load of other contemporary producers, Kieran Hebden has truly established the label as one of the UK's most important. The latest Text drop welcomes Detroit based Delsin luminary John Beltran into the fold which is something of a coup for Hebden. "Faux" is a truly singular affair, where Beltran's fast-moving percussion shuffle sits below a beautiful myriad of organic melodies. Four Tet's remix chucks in a kick drum for good measure, and gives the track a straighter reshaping for the floor. Top!

Review: Amazing Things marks the ninth studio album from Michigan based producer John Beltran and it's an aptly titled LP at that. Across the 17 tracks, Beltran embraces a wider palette than the introspective ambient music he's become synonymous with since his emergence in the early 90s. The half heard vocals and swirling synths of opening track "Retrouvailles" set the tone for much of the album, and there is no shortage of melodic moments on Amazing Things proving Beltran to be a master of ambient techno. Yet amongst these moments, Beltran displays his ability to branch out; "Broken Mechanism" and "Snow Day" well over with heart-stopping neo-classical piano lines, whilst "Flower Power Nuclear Submarine" and "Medellin" are powerful examples of his capacity to experiment with guitar-based compositions.

Review: Although widely regarded within the electronic music community as a serious talent, John Beltran hasn't always got the wider recognition his brilliant work so richly deserves. That may have something to do with the eclectic nature of his output, or even the unfashionable status of ambient music; either way, there's no denying the quality of his downtempo work in particular. This timely 'best of' for Delsin gathers together the cream of his ambient works so far, including tracks previously released by Peacefrog and R&S. It's a brilliant, life-affirming set, encompassing 15 beautiful pieces that joyously move between glistening IDM, bubbling soundscapes and chiming electronica. If you're at all interested in either ambient or electronica, you need it in your life.

Brilliant Flood (Kassem Mosse & Mix Mup remix)
Anticipation (Sven Glorify mix)
Review: An interesting pair of remixes on this 12", which sees two big producers reinterpreting seminal material from legendary ambient techno producer John Beltran. Kassem Mosse & Mip Mup collaborate on a A-Side that reworks "Brilliant Flood", adding deep bass and a bumping drum machine workout over the top whilst maintaining the hazy, hypnotic quality of the original. It adds a rough, lo-fi quality that is sure to appeal to fans of Mosse's other productions. Sven Weisemann's remix is a completely different prospect, turning in a nine-minute reworking of several different Beltran productions, which is pitched somewhere between ambient and techno, and even displays a leaning towards modern classical. Not one for the dancefloor necessarily, but sublime listening nonetheless.

Earth & Nightfall
Review: Probably one of the best tracks of John Beltran ever!! Taken from his classic release (and very obscure release on the 33rpm/sineave label from Detroit in 1993). "Fragile", released on Millions of Moments, features nice and fragile techno tracks..but still with a drive and energy. Back in those days this was one of the best catches during your weekly record shopping... and today its still as good as it ever was.

A Mind Blows Everyday (Busy People remix)
Review: Lush, midtempo track, with ghostly female vocals and organic drumbeats married in full harmony. Flip for a funky house redo by the Busy People, adding percussion, a change in the beat, a big bassline and jazzy synth solos.
