Review: After his superlative and rather unexpected foray into Afro and Latin fusion with his Sol Set project, John Beltran returns to more familiar territory with a rendition of his classic mid-90s album 'Ten Days of Blue' recorded at this year's Dekmantel in Amsterdam. We get a real feel for the whole gig experience, from the sound of murmured anticipation and intro tape to the resolution at the outro and the main meat of the music itself - lively, optimistic, groovy but understated and chilled at the same time - sits somewhere between his ambient and harder techno work. Among Beltran's very finest output.

Review: Michigan artist John Beltran has had a long and winding career that has seen him put out shimmering ambient electronics, organic techno and also find some of his tracks used on high-profile HBO TV shows. Aesthete is his latest offering and once again it pairs the synthetic with the natural in beautiful ways. His melodies are bright and beautiful, his drums float in mid-air and the overall mood of his music is painfully melancholic. This album marks the American's debut on the Furthur Electronix label and a fine one it is too.

Review: Whether offering up club-focused Motor City techno, futuristic tech-jazz, bubbly electronica or sofa-bound ambient compositions, John Beltran always wrings the maximum amount of beauty and soul from the machines he uses to make music. He's at it again on "The Season Series", an inspired album of picturesque electronic compositions on Delsin. Variously fusing swelling, almost classical chord sequences, stirring melodic refrains, effects-laden shoegaze guitars, effected vocal snippets and beats (when used) that touch on many of Beltran's main influences (think IDM and Detroit techno), Beltran has produced a simply stunning album that amply rewards those who give themselves in to its positive, emotion-rich charms.

Review: Like Delsin label mates Conforce and Claro Intelecto, veteran producer John Beltran seems incapable of producing duff albums. "Hallo Androiden", his first full length outing for two years, is another wonderfully atmospheric, melodic and emotive set that recalls the producer's impeccable 1990s output. The nine tracks are as lushly produced as you'd expect, with Beltran effortlessly drifting between eyes-closed ambient techno, lilting electronica, slowly shifting sunset soundscapes and the kind of grandiose, life affirming ambient compositions that have long been a feature of the veteran producer's work. As with much of his output, there are enough intricate details and emotion-stirring motifs to suggest that the album will sound just as good on the 50th listen as it does the first.

Review: Ten Days Of Blue is John Beltran's second LP to date, from a distant-not-so-distant 1996, when a rush of neo-techno - on an intelligent tip - began to rush over the scene. The opening "Flex" is one of the greatest of its kind, a near 7 minute voyage of sparse drums, heavy bass and a level of euphoria that is close to match anywhere else. The truth is, however, that every tune on here is absolute fire, from the gentle IDM waves of "Collage Of Dream", the jazzed-out percussion of "Gutaris Breeze (6000km To Amsterdam)" and, of course, the knifty, pseudo d&b of "Ten Days Of Blue". There is so much more to explore, too, including the totally innovative techno of "Venim & Wonder". This gear really does sound like it was made the other day. Warmly recommended.

Review: Over the last two decades, few electronica producers have amassed as impressive a discography as John Beltran. Whether crafting becalmed ambient pieces, evocative IDM tracks, or atmospheric dancefloor shufflers, the veteran producer always infuses his work with an atmospheric sense of time and place. Everything At Once, his speedy follow-up to last year's Espais, is another master class in delivering emotion-rich electronic music. Highlights abound, from the glistening, Artificial Intelligence-era Warp Records IDM of "Sinem", and droning mood-piece "Gentle Boxes", to the pitched-down rush of "Tanzmuzik" and future ambient jazz classic "Dream Lover".

Review: The legendary John Beltran returns with another masterpiece on Delsin. A master producer whose career has spanned everything from Detroit techno and electronica to Latin music, his attempt at ambient is equally well executed. The breath taking "Music for Machines" with its droning mechanical soundscape and beautiful transcending strings. "Orange Background" and its factory sounds accompanying a repetitive resonance. Beltran's emotive and sombre piano sound plays a large part and he does it tremendously on "Many Moments to Come" as well as the memorable "Love Suspended". All in all a brilliant effort and contender for one of the finest albums this year.

Review: Amazing Things marks the ninth studio album from Michigan based producer John Beltran and it's an aptly titled LP at that. Across the 17 tracks, Beltran embraces a wider palette than the introspective ambient music he's become synonymous with since his emergence in the early 90s. The half heard vocals and swirling synths of opening track "Retrouvailles" set the tone for much of the album, and there is no shortage of melodic moments on Amazing Things proving Beltran to be a master of ambient techno. Yet amongst these moments, Beltran displays his ability to branch out; "Broken Mechanism" and "Snow Day" well over with heart-stopping neo-classical piano lines, whilst "Flower Power Nuclear Submarine" and "Medellin" are powerful examples of his capacity to experiment with guitar-based compositions.

Having thrown somewhat of a creative curveball with the launch of Latin and soul-centered project Sol Set, John Beltran hands over the Detroit collective's debut album Ola De Novo to a list of impressive global talent for the remix treatment. Kiko Navarro, Kaidi Tatham, Blair Frech, Ezel, Cee ElAssaad, Chris Coco and John Beltram with John Arnold all line up to do their duty, incorporating the sun kissed, percussion-heavy and exotically instrumented vibes into their more house and techno productions. Highlights include Cee ElAssaad's remix of 'Get Away', its gloriously optimistic vocal retained and re-purposed over light and nimble beats, and Chris Coco's dubby slow motion samba take on 'Linda Sau Paulo', but like the label says, it's All Good

Review: Sol Set is a Detroit-based collective, an amalgamation of composers, musicians, artists and vocalists brought together by producer John Beltran, whose new label All Good Music chooses its debut album for its inaugural release. John Beltran and Shane Donnelly preside over seven sumptuous and confident slices of modern, sub-kissed soul and Latin sure to put a smile on anyone's face, even those of us faced with an altogether more British summer. Influences range from the Steve Wonder-style double vocals of 'Bliss Mode' to the South American 'Rhythm of the Sun', which echoes the beach bum haziness of Jorge Ben, but the vibe remains joyful and skillfully yet effortlessly executed throughout. Gorgeous.

Review: John Beltran has curated two compilations for Delsin called Music For Machines and part two sees the American artist dig deep once again. A fathoming and soulful "Waterfall Winds" opens this second instalment and sets a cool, effervescent tone for what's to come; a collection of lo-fi synths, crackling, motionless field recordings, emotive ambiences, Wolfgang Voigt-like electro-classicalisms and Steve Reich influences. Beltran's own production "2093" is new age and spacey, and given the right context is truly an overwhelming piece of music.

Review: Last seen, quite surprisingly, on Four Tet's Text label, veteran US producer John Beltran resurfaces in more substantial fashion with the first of several Music For Machines compilations issued jointly between his own Dado and the Delsin label he has a strong affiliation with. Whilst Beltran previously compiled a selection of his own material for Delsin back in 2011 with Best Of: Ambient Selections 1995 - 2011, this first Music For Machines release finds the Michigan native pulling together cuts from other artists with likes of Winter Flags, Blair French, Sons Of Melancholia, Kirk DeGiorgio and Greg Chin all contributing. Ambient music has experienced a real surge of interest this year and Music From Machines will be a welcome addition to any fan's collection.
