Burial - "Lambeth"
Kode9 - "Oh"
Cooly G - "Love Again"
DVA - "Monophonic Nightmare"
Martyn - "Mega Drive Generation" (Dorian Concept remix)
Cooly G - "Him Da Biz"
Funkystepz - "Vice Versa"
Review: Of all the Decadubs double packs issued as part of Hyperdub's exhaustive 10th Anniversary celebrations it's probably this fifth and final edition most label fans have been waiting for. Why's that? Because it offers you the chance to grip the hallowed Burial production "Lambeth" in your hands, one of a clutch of unreleased tracks from the reclusive producer that have been racking up plays on Youtube for some five years in one form or another. However there's plenty more to sink the teeth of your stylus needle into here, with the label's stated focus on a "celebration of house, garage and techno" resulting in some fine dancefloor moves from Kode9, DVA, Cooly G and a blinding Dorian Concept refix of Martyn.

Uh
OK
Review: In one of his rare forays outside of his own Hyperdub stable, Kode9 hops over to kindred spirits Rinse for this no-nonsense two tracker of taut rhythmic workouts to coincide with his recent mix. "Uh" is the more straight-up of the two bangers on this release, bouncing along on a 4/4 structure with a broken beat kink that drops down into a half time swagger in all the right places, while the bass stays simple and deadly. "OK" is a more slippery devil, all splattered footwork snares and buzzing Casio key tones designed for those with more limbs than they know what to do with on the dancefloor.

Footwork/Juke
Xingfu Lu
Kan
Review: Yes! Hyperdub bossman Kode 9 puts his name to a 12" record for the first time in two years and it's to finally release "Xingfu Lu", a killer juke cut that's been a dubplate standard in Kode sets for the best part of a year. Exotically named and gloriously lo-fi in execution, "Xingfu Lu" swings to a mutated grid, switching up style between laid back funk and frenetic energy with the results strangely reminiscent of Madlib experimenting at footwork speeds. On the flip Kode comes through with a brand new burner in the shape of "Kan" which also takes footwork as it's base but shoots for the stars with some startling chip tune arpeggios!

You Don't Wash (feat The Spaceape - DJ-Kicks Martyn's Scrub - vocal)
You Don't Wash (DJ-Kicks Actress's Negril mix - dub)
Review: Kode9, Actress and Martyn: it's the ultimate forward leaning electronica menage a trois isn't it? "You Don't Wash", which featured on Hyperdub boss Kode9's recent DJ-Kicks mix, gets a 12" release here on !K7 Records. First up is the flying Dutchman Martyn, whose remix showcases his inimitable brand of shuffling, raw percussion and rumbling bass, while Spaceape's vocals are chopped and rearranged to jostle with some intriguingly tense strings. Werk Discs chief Actress, the producer of one of 2010's best albums, turns the original into a warped Latin-tinged hip shaker with jingling, out of phase chimes and whistles.

Kode 9 vs Badawi - "Den Of Drumz"
Badawi vs Juakali - "Crows"
Review: Rior's first ever 12" features legendary Dub alchemist Badawi (aka Raz Mesinai), Hyperdub (Burial) label boss Kode 9 & celebrated dubstep artist Juakali. 'Den Of Drumz' has two extremely hot tracks. Re-mastered at 45 rpm for that heavy heavy dub sound.

Fat Larry's Skank (Kode 9 remix)
Fat Larry's Skank (original mix)
Review: The original 'Fat Larry's Skank' (produced by Kode 9, Benny Ill, & The Culprit) was one of the defining tunes of early dubstep, a highlight of pioneering DJ Hatcha's now legendary sets. Released in '02, highly sought-after, and long unavailable, it is featured here as the flip to Kode 9's awesome 2006 remix. Interspersed with the dialogue from the original, Kode 9 strips it down on the remix with an ominous 1 note bassline and haunting melodica.

Kode 9 - "Infirmary" (5:30)
Burial - "Unknown Summer" (9:53)
Review: Heavyweight heroes Kode9 and Burial are no stranger to working together having done so to great success on FABRICLIVE 100 back in 2018. They don't actually collaborate on this one, though, instead serving up one side each of a new 12" for Fabric. As experimental artists with a penchant for drawn from the UK hardcore continuum you roughly know what to expect - fresh rhythms, emotive sounds designs, compelling rhythms. The 140g 12" comes in both limited edition and standard black vinyl versions, and both have bespoke 3D design with the fabric logo printed on reverse board heavyweight card.

Experimental/Electronic
Kode 9 - "Infirmary" (5:31)
Burial - "Unknown Summer" (9:42)
Review: It almost seems redundant, writing something about the latest fabric Originals release. If you could think of a more enticing double-header for fans of bass, Leftfield techno, and UK-hued alternative electronic music then we want to hear it, with both producers here moving well beyond cult status and into the world of households names in homes well beyond their original audiences. And yet, remarkably, neither have strayed too far from where they initially set stalls. Hyperdub boss Kode 9 proves this first, with the sightly dizzying 'Infirmary'. Born from a combination of loose, open, galloping UKF and organic techno, with its foundations rooted in footwork, it's a bounding high-energy body mover that refuses to quit. Flip it and find Burial edging closer to 'dance music' than many might be used to, although it's a deep, moody interpretation packed with the spellbinding vocal flourishes of a mutant garage and suppressed, fidgety drums so subtle they're close to background noise.

Lee Gamble - "DSM"
Fatima Al Qadiri - "Shanxi"
Ikonika - "Time/Speed"
DJ Earl - "Hexagonic Sound"
DVA - "Reach The Devil"
Jeremy Greenspoon & Borys - "Gage"
Review: Take a look at the artists to grace the A-side of Decadubs 4 and you'll find a collection of names that have released some of this year's most talked about albums: Lee Gamble, Inga Copeland, The Bug and Fatima Al Qadiri. The B-side, however, hosts Hyperdub regulars like Ikonika and DVA, and the boss Kode9 of course, to more intriguing names like footworker DJ Earl and Jeremy Greenspoon & Borys who have previously released music on Dan Snaith's Jiaolong label. Dean Blunt also appears with a jazzy ambient cut, while Cooly G does the same with the sombre, vocal-driven "Mind".

Autumn Has Come
Review: Announced back in September, news of the first release of substance from Kode 9 and The Spaceape in three years was naturally roundly greeted given their status at the top of the pecking order for apocalyptic producer-MC combos. Of course the release of Killing Season has been massively overshadowed by the recent passing of The Spaceape (aka Stephen Samuel Gordon) after a long battle with a rare form of cancer, but his commitment to music has remained undimmed despite health issues and this five track EP is as good as anything the pair have worked on. It's as dark as ever, but "Devil Is A Liar" too shows a lighter, more limber approach to the finished product, not so leaden in British urban dread. The minimalism reaches a peak on "Heart" with its slithering smatterings of trap and plush chords, while The Spaceape rips the human condition to shreds, and the later into the EP you go the more adventurous the tracks become.

Mala - "Expected, Level 10"
DVA - "Technical Difficulties"
Kuedo - "Mtzpn"
Kode9 - "Xingfu Lu" (Helix remix)
Review: Hyperdub kick off the vinyl side to their ten-year celebrations with this weighty four-tracker from some of the leading lights from the label's story. Mala is in a strident mood with "Expected, Level 10" carrying through that extra touch of melody from the Mala In Cuba LP. DVA cuts loose with the leftfield scattershot groove of "Technical Difficulties", reveling in tonal experimentation and jagged rhythmic flair to a stunning end. Still locked into the sci-fi trap tangent that characterised Severant, Kuedo turns out the haunting "Mtzpn" and Helix pops up for a remix of Kode9's "Xingfu Lu" that strips down to bare essentials with a little starlit soul rubbed into the framework.
