Mixed Out (12")
Cat: SOSR 023. Rel: 28 Jun 17
Deep House
  1. Kuniyuki & Jimpster - "Kalima's Dance" (Sprinkles Deeperama) (10:53)
  2. K15 & Kuniyuki - "Moving Minds" (Kuniyuki version) (6:33)
  3. K15 & Kuniyuki - "Moving Minds" (K15 version) (6:05)
Review: Kuniyuki & Friends are a sight for sore eyes usually, which is a shame because their particular strand of jazzed-out house is always a refreshing fixture, but they're no back on their native Sound of Speed with a full EP of wonder and dubby glitz. Our main man Jimpster joins Kuniyuki on the audaciously deep "Kalima's Dance", which is pretty much the answer to psych rock in deep house form. On the flip, Detroit's K15, a close associate of Kyle Hall, appears with Kuniyuki for "Moving Minds" - Kuniyuki himself drops a funky little boogie blast of a version on the B1, while K15's rework focuses primarily on the percussion and atmospheric synth work circling the top end of the mix. All in all, a little gem of a release!

  9. Kuniyuki & Jimpster - "Kalima's Dance" (Sprinkle Deeperama)
Review: Prolific Japanese producer Kuniyuki Takahashi has long been renowned as one of house music's most enthusiastic collaborators, so it seems fitting that his latest album is made up entirely of joint productions. It's a blueprint that guarantees a string of successes, from the jammed-out afro-funk of "Groove Chase" (which is also reinvented by co-producer DJ Nature as a broken jazz-funk bomb) and loose, languid jazziness of "Session North No. 1 (Vakula Version)", to the synth-laden jazz-funk brilliance of "Moving Minds" (a hook-up with K15) and the musically rich deep house bliss of Jimpster collaboration "Kalima's Dance". The latter is also given the remix treatment by DJ Sprinkles, whose sublime version is naturally deeper than the Pacific.
